I'm sure I have over looked something but after updating to kitkat I can no longer download any files though any browser, have tried chrome stock and dolphin which all worked before the update. I have an outlook Web account for work so need to use the browser to access and download attachments. Any help welcomed. Thanks

There is no special procedure for enabling download in kitkat. It works just fine.
1) Make sure your internet access is good. Check download with another PC/tablet/phone.
2) Check if you can install apps from google play store
3) You may need to do a factory reset or reinstall kitkat firmware.
Thanks for the reply, there is no issue with Internet connection or downloading apps, this is purely a browser issue I think. I remember having this issue before on honeycomb I think but was able to fix with es file explorer as it had an option to enable downloads. I also have a note 2 on kitkat which works fine.

Still no joy with the downloads and now my Samsung account wont sync, anyone any ideas. Thanks
Sent from my SM-P605 using Tapatalk
maybe because you are not rooted and try to write to sdcard ?
Thanks for the reply, not rooted but root not needed to download attachments from email client on browser. Does not explain the Samsung account failing to sync?

Has anyone gotten this error with Dolphin Browser HD trying to download .apk files? I've downloaded them with no problems in the past, but I've gotten this recently. It's really getting frustrating. I've tried rebooting several times as well.
Do you have an app manager or a file browser app that can install apps? I seem to recall that helped.
I had the same problem, had to go to the stock browser to download .apk's

I used Android Crutch, and was able to download all file types.
Tired of 3rd party browsers? Need flash?
Here you go
Before going on, this flashable ZIP is the easiest way:

Here is the link to the apk I used, it is from a Nexus S JB ROM, but ICS may work too. IDK:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11759879/Browser.apk
I used ES file explorer with root permissions to do this.
Just place this app in your /system/app folder, change the permissions from rw------- to rw-r--r--
NOW this is important, If you see a browser browserproxyprovider.odex You should rename them! I just threw a 1 after the file extensions.
If you don't do this step the browser will just forceclose.
Now reboot and you are all set
I haven't tested everything yet. But it loads webpages and the settings menu. I will check flash and make sure everything is fine with chrome when I'm no longer in class.
Flash work perfectly. Better than it did on ics
Whoo!
Note: If you have any issues, please try wiping cache and dalvik
I think you'll need the JB version, am fairly sure you could extract the one from the new AOSP ROM.

I did pull the browser from a AOSP JB rom for the Nexus S. It force closed again when it tried to sign in.
Here is the apk:

Sorry, see OP
Thank you so much. Flash is working and everything seems good, except for my bookmarks (as theres no option to sync browser in Accounts). Time to ditch Dolphin at least!

It will go fullscreen, but going landscape doesn't expand it (looks squished)
You want an amazing browswer WITH flash on the Nexus 7
sideload the latest Firefox
do you need to be rooted to be able to do this, i tried copying the apk file to the /system/app folder but it couldn't copy it
Yes you need root to change the permissions and rename the system files in system/app
Op you are awesome, I just ditched dolphin today and I don't like chrome.

Glad it works.
I like chrome, I just can't understand why they didn't include flash. I use chrome and flashify so I can easily switch to browser

hi all,
i recently noticed that i that i am unable to open any adfly links on my phone whether it is chrome / default browser / opera, i am unable to open any adfly links.
if someone has a similar problem plz share
I 've had the same problem 4 as long as I can remember, never found a way around it, so I'll b very interested if sm1 has a solution.
Be sure you didn't use AdFree or Adblock
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hi,
You must be an Omega ROM user.
To access adfly websites the easiest way is to open a Root Explorer, go to System, after, go to Etc, after find a file name "host" and delete that. It should probably work right after. Don't forget to hit thanks if it worked
Edit them and put www. Infront of it that works for me

From hosts file I think maybe its blocked by adfree ?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Yes un installing adfree and rebooting did it.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
i had adblock plus and maybe adfree also .. i later uninstalled them but even after that whenever i open ******* links it says please stop adblock .. HELP!!
uninstalling adfree/adaway won't help.
I solved it by using adaway(more options) and adding *·adf·ly to the whitelist (replace · with . )
deleting the hosts file(and if you use crossbreeder, the /system/etc/CrossBreeder/dhrd_root/master file) will likely work too, but you'll lose adblocking.
You can almost always just open the hosts file and edit out the entry being blocked.

I'm loving this rom, very smooth and stable.
However I'd like to update my youtube to the newest version, but i get the error that the package is not signed correctly and ask to remove the previous version
There are no option to remove youtube, but disable instead.
Is there a way to update?

You can try to install the apk file (HERE)
Or you can uninstall Youtube with a root uninstaller or with Titanium Backup then you install the apk file or download from Play Store.
Just after posting this question, I did one more search on the forum and most of treads orients to remove the youtube.apk
As my note 2 is rooted, I deleted the apk from /system/app. After that I tried to install from google play and got an different error.
So I restarted the device and then It could be installed from google play.
So I had no chance to test your link. But thank you anyway.
If someone is facing the same problem I was, try downloading the apk Primokorn posted and tell us your results.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong on this phone. I downloaded flash player and installed it, as I did for my GIII. Flash works great. On this phone even after installing and restarting flash videos will not play.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Flash is discontinued and deprecated for the most part. You may need to get the community supported version that's available on xda here somewhere with a browser like Dolphin Browser. Other than that, there are limited options.
here, just dl and install this. use a browser with flash support; Firefox, Dolphin, Boat, most browsers support Flash, Chrome does not.

Boat didn't work for me after flash install but dolphin did.

The flash player linked in here did it... now flash is working!
Thanks!
I installed it, but then it just takes me to a blank page, it seems like it's installed but not enabled. I'm on Android 4.4.4 using the latest Firefox browser, same problem with dolphin browser. it takes me to this : https://settings.adobe.com/flashplayer/mobile/ and it's blank. Any help would be appreciated.

1. Install flash
2. in FF go to settings-display-plugins and I clicked enabled
3. restart
Tried a site and it worked.
