Flashing stock image without unlocked bootloader

Can I flash stock image from Google's site without unlocking bootloader? My phone is defected and came without a recovery image in the software meaning I cannot update to 4.0.4 or perform factory wipes, so does this mean i cannot unlock bootloader? I need to unlock bootloader to flash stock 4.0.4 image correct?
The recovery and bootloader are seperate things. If you can boot into the bootloader you can unlock it. Hold down both volume up and down and power. It should boot you into the bootloader.
Yeah i'm pretty new to this so thanks for the response. I can get into fastboot mode by holding the power and volume buttons down but entering recovery mode does not work. I know that during the unlocking the bootloader process it causes a factory wipe, but theres no recovery image on my phone for my phone to revert back to, so what would happen?
You dont need to go into recovery to unlock your bootloader. You do it from fastboot itself. After unlocking you can flash the system image which includes the recovery.
Follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25477039&postcount=1 It will walk you through the whole process.
Thanks a lot. Im in the middle of unlocking the bootloader now and that link will really help me flash the stock image. thanks!
No problem. If you get stuck either PM me or post to this thread again.
just unlocked bootloader and flashed stock 4.0.4 flawlessly. thanks for the help. fixed all my problems!

A little problem

Hello all,
I unlocked and rooted my One X (CID: HTC__Y13) running ICS (1.29.401.11). I am still running stock Rom, but I uninstalled some system apps and don't have a nandroid backup of the stock Rom. I later wanted to flash JB ROM, so I wanted to upgrade HBOOT. I decided to use JB FW flasher. I started it. I don't remember what it did, but the process didn't complete. A day later I booted into the bootloader. I found:
Handset is Relocked.
There is no recovery.
It's still rooted as the superuser and apps that require superuser permission are still working.
What I need your help for is I want toget back to stock condition, so that I get my OTA updates. Then after my HBOOT is upgraded, I can then unlock and root it.
I tried to unlock my phone. When I typed in CMD 'amd devices', it says List of devices attached. I tried fastboot unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin, it does nothing. Please help me with it.
Thanks.
If you want to unlock the bootloader ... this is the command
Fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
But you can keep the bootloader locked and run a ruu
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/securek...Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe
Download it, put the phone in the bootloader and execute the ruu with admin rights (right click the ruu)
Thanks so much. I was trying adv but it didn't help. Then used JB FW Flasher and it did the job.
Your info was too helpful, as I'm pretty much noon with HOX. Thanks again.

HTC One m8 - bricked??

Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I was s-off, rooted and decided i wanted to return to stock.
Anyway,i did the following
downloaded correct nandroid ruu and flashed it all ok
I then decided to flash the recovery back to stock so can install the ota updates, i had the htc one toolkit at hand so did it through there and it all said success
Opened fastboot and relocked bootloader all fine.
I rebooted and download the first ota update however it seems the recovery did not flash and am still ion twrp, so could not install ota update.
I tried to reflash it, of course it wont because bootloader now locked
when i try to unlock using fastboot oem relock i get the [ERR] command error
I cant unlock using htcdev as i still have the custom recovery.
Does anyone have any idea on how else i can get back to custom recovery, while the bootloader is still locked, or is there any other way to unlock the bootloader?
Many thanks
steve
Why don't you install the latest RUU using the sdcard method?
Btw I believe you can unlock using htcdev. Just flash the unlock token you got the first time.

That doesn't work either ! ......you have to "flash" the unlock token again, the one he got the first time.....he can use it again !
And if you use a RUU on a S-OFF device you do NOT have to relock the bootloader.
And the RUU he used wasn't an original RUU......an original RUU always flashes the stock recovery !

Oh right, indeed, that is true. It's been a while for me since I last done that. Probably back when I had my HTC Legend.
