I just wanted to get people's opinion on whether backing up with Titanium for apps could be redundant if you already backup to your Google account?
The last time I updated my ROM with a full system wipe and re-booted, all the previously installed apps came right back as soon as I connected to wifi and logged into Google. The Titanium backup file is very large on my KF and I would rather use the space for other things..
I realize that TB is necessary for system data, but do you think I need to continuously back up my apps in both places?
Thanks for your input..
I think that if you want an identical restore, then TB is the route. With Google, I still must setup my screens.

So I've successfully updated my phone to Baked Snack v1.4.
My question is, I made a full Titanium Backup of user apps + data before hand. Can I just re-download titanium backup and run a batch restore to get all of my apps back? or will that overwrite data that has been put in by the new ROM?
Thanks!
I have done so coming from 1.25 so you will probably be alright. I know I was having all sorts of problems coming from Android 2.1 roms but since they are both 2.2 go for it

If you run a batch to get all your apps back, it should be fine. There shouldn't be a problem with overwriting data I believe because it focuses only on the apps.
Saying this, I've jumped around ROMS and restoring my apps has never been a problem using Titanium. I think you'e safe.
On some 2.2 ROMs, using Titanium Backup with result in Force Closes on some of the apps. No idea why but it definitely happens.
This is the entire purpose of titanium backup's existence.
thanks for the info. I started playing around with TitaniumBackup, and found out that I could restore individual apps, so I did that instead, cleaning house while I went and not installing apps I never used.
Follow up question though, does Titanium Backup store saved WiFi information / Text Messages? and if so, does anyone know which app I would restore to get back said information?
I've seen on this forum somewhere a mod that allows you to send you SMS to your google account so the nextime you setup your google account on the the phone it will bring back your SMS messages, I don't know if it does wifi or no. Post found here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697147
Hey,
I've been on holiday and the new version of ARHD is out, but requires (well, recommends) a full wipe, but I'll take that recommendation considering how long it's been since a full wipe and my phone could probably do with it.
So my question is really, what should I backup before a full wipe, and how?
I've got app apks + data with titanium backup, and seo's sense3 sms can backup and restore texts (also I get them saved to gmail), but what else?
Thanks

Hello,
use the Titanium Backup app and back up all user applications with data and system data.
With this method you back up everything, what you can move to the new rom.
Best regards,
Herold
Also, you can "nandroid backup" from clockwork recovery just in case rom flashing fails.
Edit: which is not the case really with arhd. Only themes flashed wrong got me into bootloops

i usually do "adb pull /data/app C:/random_folder" and "adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf C:/random_folder/wpa_supplicant.conf". This copies all of your apps and your wifi networks to your harddrive.
Titanium backup, apps and data only, manual everything else

This was also something I wondered about before I rooted.
First, if you are connected to your gmail account, all of your contacts, emails, sms, phone log etc will be synced by Google (backed up). Even better, if you are connected to htc sense, it will save all of your WiFi passwords!
Second, you won't be able to take backup of your apps and data without root, although Android market will try to restore every app that you have downloaded from it (still without data). Remember I said try, because it doesn't always work. Therefore I recommend that you use an app called "app list backup" by pun software
to make a list of them.
Third, make a note of all your home screen elements and where they are placed.
Fourth, download bookmark sort & backup by happydroid a to make a backup of your bookmarks.
That's about it, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hey guys,
I would like to know whats the best way to backup all my current installed apps and settings so i can port them to a different rom without having to set all my stuff again.
The reason is simply because i want to try a different rom and not having the same configuration on both device is not a fair comparaison.
Thanks!

You could use App manager or Titanium backup?
You can use Titanium backup to backup the apps, but restoring the system data across ROMs is risky, you can keep all your apps and app data with Titanium backup and restore once you get onto your new ROM.
What Hydera said.

I wish google would just bundle a tool with their OS to do this.
ASUS has a backup tool for the Transformer which does both apps and data and does NOT require root.
We shouldn't have to modify our phones to backup our data. Apple's iCloud is the perfect example of what backups should be like!

You can do it with "adb backup" and "adb restore" - doesn't require modifying your phone.
Apple's iCloud is designed for a slightly different usage scenario - that is, migrating data between devices, not backing/restoring data so you can reflash the phone's firmware.

Yeah, and for someone like my wife, iCloud is perfect and doesn't require thought... Get her to do an ADB backup several times a day and you'll be asking for trouble There must be a better way that can be implemented within the OS, like the aforementioned ASUS backup tool I wrote about earlier... Something "everyday folks" can use.
Titanium Backup.
Just got titanium backup pro and it works amazing for what I need ! The free version was meh since I wanted to do a batch backup and restore them all on the new ROM. I will now be able to test ROMs using the same configuration for all of them !

After you flah, all your apps are automatically redownloaded from the market, once you enter your email.. But you will have to reconfigure them. Or, you can restore with Titanium backup. This will restore your app conf as welll.

Very inconvenient move. Lots of data usage is being used, especially for people on "capped" monthly bandwidth and the fact that app data isn't being saved.
Titanium Backup is the way to go. Pro is definitely needed as it's a one-step batch.
Whenever I flash of Roman's roms there is no automatic restore from the market. I tried another rom, can't remember, think it was the new ICS 4.04 all apps started downloading. Why the difference?
Hello everyone,
I have been rooting for a long time since I had a G1. I never understood clearly how to transfer apps without the need to manually install them. Does creating a partition in the SD card to ext3 or ext4 have some factor to it? I would simply follow directions but didn't understand the process. Whenever I installed a new ROM, sometimes all of the apps would be install automatically and some ROMS would require me to install them manually. I also got Titaniumbackup Pro also. Is that still a good app to use to back up these days? Is there a popular app to back up text messaging as well or does many of the
Lately, I have been trying to find a good rom to use after many crashes of Andromadus V13. I am using the latest Anrdomadus Mimicry now and its great. Though, I realized that I didn't transfer any of my apps. As I was rooting a few ROMS previous to it, some would install a majority of the apps and others would require me to install them myself. Im curious of why this is so.
the auto restore is a function of the market, I don't like this method and choose no when I sign in (don't like wasting time and slowing things down cause of all the data over network or wifi
titanium back is my personal favorite way to restore apps on a new rom, there are other apps that will do this (romtollbox etc) tb will do texts but I have had issues with it
I use sms backup + for that and connect it to my google account

Apps are tied to your Google Play account and normally get automatically re-installed after you start your phone back up after a new ROM. Except, sometimes installing your ROM gives your phone a new "name" and Google Play doesn't know that it's the same phone (even though it's on the same account). So, if you go to Google Play on your computer, you would have more than one choice of phones to download apps to - your old phone name and your new phone name. And I've also had the occasional app out of many that just doesn't re-install for some reason.
Two words : Titanium Backup (though mainly only useful if you can restore your old rom, run a backup, then flash the new rom back).
While google can half-ass restore your downloads (settings may not always be intact), Titanium Backup will actually restore all your backed up apps along with their full settings/etc. It can also restore your rom's Android ID so that restored apps don't conflict.
But yea since you already have it, you should know least that much. Personally I have not found anything better than 4EXT Recovery and Titanium Backup Pro when it comes to backing up and restoring data.
ps: it can backup your SMS/Call Logs/Wifi Access points, etc to XML files on your SD card which can be re-imported later, just in case the SMS/Etc backups performed are not compatible with your new rom's apps.
It's always such a bother to click install, done, install, done, install, done for 100+ apps when I restore from Titanium Backup. Is there another backup app that has fully automated restore, rather than necessitating my input for half an hour?
Spend the $6 to buy the pro version and you won't have that issue anymore! It's well worth it for anyone who flashes ROMs frequently...

yea buy it.. then itll do it automatically

As said. In pro you an just click a button and restore them all, with or without data. You can do all apps and system data or you can do all apps, missing apps etc. Gives you a list in case you want to
Ton of features in there that i dont really use. I just backup all new user apps & new versions and then backup for modified data and then i restore when i do a rom. New versions have that all new user apps and new versions set to also backup all system apps. Might want to swap the option back to how it used to be. Backing up every system app is stupid.
Thanks guys, I had no idea the pro version did what I wanted it to do
No problem, be sure to use the thanks button!
