[Q] need a little help - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

okay so I'm having a small problem formatting my 64 gigabyte SD card. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 it recognizes the exFAT 64 gig partition. Unfortunately something has corrupted it and files cannot be deleted from it it cannot be formatted and I can't add any files to it like if I download it or something. Does anyone know of a format tool that can make my SanDisk X fat 64 gig sd card into two partitions of 32 gigs that way I can keep it as a fat32 system and have it recognized on any machine I decide to put it into. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated guys I've been searching for almost 3 weeks for a way to to format it and I cannot find it.
Thanks!

tater,
you'll need to do this on you pc with a card reader
find a windows program called bootice,or partition wizard
and work your sdcard with those
i think they're both included in hiren's boot cd
you may be good setting things right through pc alone
or you may need to format sdcard a second time in android tab after fixing it on pc.
the latter was my experience. hope this helps.

Can I convert my micro SD card to ntfs and everything be ok?

I'm trying to copy .rar files to my phone over 4gigs and instead of using a dvd I'd like to put it on either my SD card or my phone storage. I have a 16 gig SD card with over 12 gigs free. I know I can convert it from fat32 with win7 so I'm not worried about that. I just need to know if he phone will support ntfs. I've searched online and can't seem to find a definitive answer... any help would be greatly appreciated!!
I apologize if this is in the wrong category I wasn't sure where to post this.

These phones don't support ntfs filesystems yet. Why would you want to use ntfs on a primarily storage drive anyways?
I like to transport sometimes large files via my cell phone. Or in the event that another storage device isn't working I can use this quickly and temporarily.

NTFS isnt really any faster than fat32, its more of a security encryption issue and its not like fat32 doesnt support large file transfers. Plus i dont know of any device that doesnt recognize fat32.
Partitioning could be an option right? One partition in FAT32 for the phone and one in NTFS for file transfers.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Since your transfering .rars I'm assuming your already use to using WinRar or a similar archiving tool, would it be out of the question to use it to split the file into pieces small enough to be compatible with a Fat32 formatted card?

[Q] Low Memory Issue

My girlfriend got the HTC Wildfire S for MetroPCS a couple of weeks ago. It is a nice phone except for one little problem: The internal memory is crap. She has exactly 5 apps installed, all are moved to SD, and she has 7.14 MB or internal memory free. It is running the stock 2.3 Rom rooted. I need some help figuring out what to do. Before you guys make suggestions let me list what I have already done:
1. S-OFF and rooted, removed all bloatware, which moved it from 3.21 MB to 8 MB which seems like BS because a few of those apps were about 6 MB in size.
2. Moved apps to SD card partially in the applications menu in settings.
3. Cleaned caches
4. Uninstalled almost every application.
This is very frustrating because she cant update apps, she cant download apps, and it is frustrating because I have the old Huawei Ascend on CM7 and I have more apps and am faster than her phone, its ridiculous, I also wonder why after removing over 60MB or crap and bloatware it freed up about 7MB. Makes no sense. I don't want to do DT's app2sd script yet because she doesn't have a way to back up her stuff before the partition of the SD card. If anyone can explain another way or something I can do to fix this please..... It would be greatly appreciated.
Use Partition Wizard Home (Free) to resize your FAT32 partition and create your Ext(whatever your kernel supports) partition on a windows machine.
No need to back up. Doesn't destroy partitions.
My preference is Link2SD free from the market.
You can mass move your apps, dalvik cache and library files to the Ext(Probably Ext2 with stock rom kernel) from the SD card and internal to your Ext partition very easy.
Also you can set it up to auto do this when new apps are installed and choose which apps you want to keep fully internal for faster booting, startup, etc.

If your card is corrupt and can't be read try a program like Recuva on the PC (free) to get your files from it.

Format it in windows using the partition software I mentioned and make sure it is:
1/ Fat32
2/ A Primary not a Logical partition
3/ Make it the Active partition

Use the Windows drive manager to delete the partition on the MicroSD, do not reformat it with windows, plug it into the phone, and attempt to mount, it should do so but with 0 space now. Format it with the phone. Or look for the tool "fat32format" on the internet (Google is your friend) in order to force a format in FAT32.

Then try exFAT but if you have a windows computer, the default is FAT32.
If that don't work you will need to find a friend or relative who has
a windows computer which you can use to format the card using FAT32.

You can have all your mp3's, videos, movies, pictures and documents plus backups of the rom and new roms or other
stuff but you just cannot use it to install apps until one of the devs finds a way to create a compatible app which will allow
for app installation on external sd.
Something similar to the apps2sd app which is not compatible with the S4.
Perhaps the developer of that app will upgrade it making it compatible with our phones.

Google it and look it up,
Ever since windows xp fat32 was always the default when formatting usb flash drives(memory sticks) and sdcards.
Right now I am running windows 8 but I ran all the other prior versions of windows including windows xp.
When formatting hard drives, even external usb hard drives then windows (all versions) default to NTFS.
I never seen any versions of windows operating systems defaulting to exFAT.

Your right actually I got confused its actually partition space anything over 32Gb is out of a normal fat range for windows.

2) Boot into the USB stick.

Well not in that sense but let's say if you would like to play a video or a song you have saved in your 64GB card. Does it still play it right away or have you experienced any slow downs? Someone who i know that works closely with phones informed me that it slows down the phone when loading files such as mp3 files or video files. Thanks dude.

[Q] Fail to download and or write to SD.

I have scandisk class 10 SD card 64 GB.
its formatted using the note 8 device (exFAT).
Whenever I try to download a file or copy a file in note 8 to the SD. It fails and reboots my device. knowing that reading from the SD is perfect. I can play music and movies from SD with no issues.
the only way I can transfer files to the SD if I connect the SD to the PC directly.
I am not sure if this is an issue with Note 8 or SD. please help!

I am not using any custom Roms. And i formatted my sandisk ultra 64gb more than three times but the same issue keeps happening. I also tried to find other apps to transfer movies and music files from Iinternal memory to sd but that didn't help. I can't even download directly to my sd. I'm afraid nothing beyond painfully obvious ones - trying with another similar card, trying the card on any other device supporting exfat (if ok, this would provide definitive proof that card is ok), trying on freshly installed latest ROM, trying with the same card formatted in fat32.

It seems like this is the last resort. I will reformat my note 8 and try again. I also forgot to mention, that few weeks ago I was able to transfer one 800 mb file but this stopped happening. So it seems like there is not enough memory to transfer although I tried clearing the memory.
I will let you know if this reformatting the note 8 will fix the problem.

SD card problem.

You may be better off posting this in the thread of the roms you're trying to install.
I may be wrong but aren't some kernels limited to using fat/fat32 etc?
Or of course your 64er could be going faulty?

What you could try (even though I don't know how Android can handle this) is to create two partitions with each 32gb on your 64gb sdcard and see whether this works or not. Other than that I don't have too many ideas left :/

you can either do it with windows (Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions > Disk Management) or with a tool like paragon partition manager (isn't free so you'd have to search for a freeware alternative) and there you shrink your 64gb fat 32 partition to a 32gb fat32 partition and create a new partition on the remaining 32gb of unallocated space also with fat32.
your pc will recognize your sdcard as if there were two. Now that i think of it, I really am not sure whether android will recognize your 64gb or better both 32gb partitions on your phone or if Android will say that you sdcard is corrupted.
If you do that and android suggests to format your sdcard DON'T DO IT ON ANDROID. I got myself some fried sdcards there. So if it doesn't work out you can delete one of the 32gb partitions and enlarge the other again to 64gb but do that from your pc.
You'll need a card reader or usb adapter or something. It won't work with the sdcard inserted in your phone as Android now uses mtp rather than ums and you can't perform those tasks from windows with mtp.

Hmm ill give it a try later. Right now im guessing that my recovery does not support the sdcard. Im currently on CWM TOUCH 6.0.3.1. And looking for a rom with good battery life.
Guys I truly don't mean to be a stick in the mud about this, but you can search XDA and Google about this issue. A lot of people are having this exact same issue. That's why I said a 64 may or may not work with other brands, but the Samsung cards seem to always work like their suppose to (given they aren't defective). There are a few other threads about this on the forums as well. If you do by chance get it working please do share, and perhaps PM a mod and see if you can post a guide on it.
Note 2 has problems with some 64Gb card due to (here: my speculation) bad power supply and stabilization.
Kingston 64/10 makes my Note 2 unhappy.
Sandisk 64/U1 more or less stable with FAT32 but makes instability issues with exFAT.
Sandisk 32/10 and Kingston 32/10 are fully OK with FAT32.

I use saber kernel, I'm also n7105.
I presume you didn't just get a bad download of the rom, did you check it with md5?
I'm just throwing suggestions out there btw.

Hmm i also on saber kernel. Im guessing its because my note 2 is not happy with 64GB sdcards. Maybe i should get a 32 one.
