Rooting doesn't prevent the use of any apps. Also are you talking about unrooting or returning to stock, S-on, relock, unroot, stock recovery?
If you have super su installed you can unroot from within the app.

Rooting does prevent use of some apps, perfect example would perhaps be Barclays Bank app.
Why is that, security feature? Never had an issue myself.

Yeah, it's one or other security feature, if it picks up the device is rooted it doesn't allow you do log on and do banking. Something like Root Cloak doesn't really do the job anymore either, kinda mixed results from the hiding root apps, that I've seen.
Barclays Pingit
Oh well, I moved on from it...done and dusted. Don't do banking with devices anymore as a whole now so.
Just wanted to use Barclays as an example of an app that doesn't work when you're rooted. :good:
I just want to unroot so I can get access to sky go banking app ect and help would would be really great

Just open the root program(I assume it's SuperSU? ) go to settings, scroll down and tap "Full unroot". That's it.
I don't know where the CID talks came from though, did you change your CID? If you did then you should already know how to change it back to the original CID it was.
There's nothing more to it
Or did you go and flash a different ROM etc? Then it's not just "unroot" but something entirely different, need more details then. Ashyx asked this hours ago already...
I changed my cid to a supercid but my original one is VODAP001 I have the viper one ruu install so supersu will not let me unroot

Use your Stock back up or if you don't have one, grab one from the back up collection thread, then follow @EddyOS's guide to get back to stock properly which you can find here.

Hey guys,
This probably isn't just for DHD users but seeing as thats what im using i'll post it here!
So a while back i went through the custom ROM phase. I am by no means an expert in this area, im just able to follow instructions!
I rooted with visionary and went radio-off with the one click method (My phone was on 1.32). I gave a few ROMS a go and just preferred stock battery life etc so restored the stock ROM from my clockwork recovery back-up.
My question is how do i get my phone back to the state where it will receive official OTA updates from HTC (I've read that they wont work once you've done the S-off/radio-off procedure).
If its not possible to get it back to this state then what options do i have for getting official updates (say whenever HTC push the 2.3.3 ROM!)
Thanks Guys
easy way , run ruu updater utility for your phone but you loose all data and settings
Unroot it and install stock rom. You should be able to get total updates then

Yep, that's the guide to follow
That's the one. Use 1.32.405.6 RUU. Then you must turn your phone S-ON, you can follow the instructions in my radio s-off tool thread to do that.
Is this correct that if you root and have S-OFF you won't receive updates? I asked that question at the time of rooting and was told that I would still get updates?
The only reason I rooted was to get Adfree working and get other such apps for rooted devices.
My Rom is the 1.32.405.6 as I bought the DHD all I have done is root with Visionary and got S-OFF.

I used the S-OFF tool and Visionary temp root then perm root. How would we go about restoring everything when it comes to being able to get the 2.3 update?
Kind of wish I didn't root now as I was told the oppisite that S-OFF and rooting wouldn't effect getting updates.
Edit: I just used attempt unroot with Visionary, the DHD rebooted and I used root checker from the market and it says I don't have root now. Would this be sufficient to get updates now do you think?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yep, that should be alright. If the OTA does not want to install, you can just flash HTC RUU and the issue will be fixed. You will get a notification about the OTA anyway, so you do not have to guess whether it works or not.
Thanks that's good to know that the update notification will come and that by unrooting fixes any problems. In the meantime until 2.3 comes I think I'll reroot
I only rooted in the first place to get things like Adfree and Drocap2 working.

I did a few searches in the EVO forum but found nothing specific to my question. Hope this hasnt already been answered.
I have a pretty simple question. If I run the HTC bootloader unlock tool and unlock my phone can I uninstall the sprint apps like nova, sprint football, sprint nascar etc? or is it more involved then that?
After you unlock your phone an install superuser there's many ways to uninstall those apps titanium backup is a great app to use for that

No, you need full root access to remove those, not just an unlocked bootloader.
S-off = nand unlock to flash roms you need to be s-off. To have root is to have superuser and busybox. With revolutionary you get both

if u unlock boot loader you can flash anything you want. So if you take a stock from and delete the apps from it you do not want and then flash it, then u don't need root at all.

you can root, then uninstall your apps, then use a pc3600img to flash back to the stock recovery and the s-on tool found here on xda to re lock your hboot then you may also uninstall superuser and no longer have a rooted phone
I updated to an HTC One from an iPhone and I was loving it completely until the KitKat upgrade came out. I absolutely hate the upgrade. I tried looking around but I couldn't find any guide for it. This is pretty much first experiences with Rooting for android.
So is it possible to take my Verizon HTC One M7 running 4.4.2 KitKat, HBOOT-1.56.000, S-ON to JellyBean 4.3?
If you need any other information, I will try my best to find it and provide it.
Thank you so much

So from your custom recovery, you flashed a rom, you did a full wipe beforehand correct? As long as you have an unlocked bootloader (says unlocked at top of bootloader screen), you shouldn't have any issues flashing a rom.

Morning all!
Possibly a silly question but I run 100% stock because of one app that will not work when rooted - Sky Go (a UK video streaming app). There is nothing that has got it to work when rooted so I've not bothered. I don't even need root access these days. BUT I'd like to give CM11 a go and I was wondering if you can turn off the root access in the ROM and then use a stock kernel and it would still boot/run?
If not, not to worry but seeing as CM11S does't have root it'd be nice to see the same available for other phones and not just the OnePlus One
I guess you could run the super su zip in recovery and then full unroot it through the app. Not sure if you'll run into any issues in cm without root, never tried it before

No, otherwise I would've used it
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.devadvance.rootcloak
App: Sky Go - BSkyB - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bskyb.skygo
Method: Most likely detects root via native library (built with Android NDK). Unsure of exact method, but the Java portion of the app contains "VGDRM_STATUS_DEVICE_IS_ROOTED = -41942891", and based on the library name, it's a safe bet.
Relevant Files: libvgc.so
I think Sky Go looks for more than root doesn't it? I think it looks at kernel and software version also, so if you are running anything "custom" it instantly thinks you are rooted.
I just set up a separate rom on my Nexus 7 (Using multirom) for this exact reason.

Just went through the process of trying to find a free alternative, but I wasn't able to.
But Sunshine worked like a treat. The funny/unfortunate thing was that my first M8 (sent it back for the loose volume rocker issue) was S-Off'd via firewater without a hitch.
Second time around, I got walled at "chugging" before the 2nd bottle without fail, no matter what I tried. I attempted while I was on stock Sense, GPe 4.4.3 ROM, and finally CM11, all to no avail. I reverted to stock Sense (pre-requisite for Sunshine), and completed S-Off in a matter of minutes (and $25 poorer).

All the custom rom's I have tried, and when you root, all warn you to make a nandroid backup. If you did that, you can make another nandroid backup of your current rom, restore the backup when you first rooted, use sunshine, then restore your custom rom. At least that is what worked for me. If you didn't, you may have to restore the rom using the HTC updater and then go through the unroot process again. But do the s-off before installing the custom rom.

But think of all the fun you will have. Plus a 2nd chance to do a nandroid backup of the stock rom. One reason I came back to Android is because I think loading and doing roms is fun. I bought a 2nd M8 so I can try other roms without taking a chance of bricking my main phone. Well, good luck and hope everything works fine for you, but remember the #1 rule... Backup up often!!! Nandroid backups are your friends.
