If you're rooted with cwm installed then you're not eligible to get this update. (Means, your system status is custom not official).
Go & check yourself in setting> about device> status.

SOLVED!
Funny, The problem was that the battery was under 50%...
Yeah Odin is your best bet. Download the latest firmware from Samsung website and you will have the update and will not have to worry bout this anymore!
You will lose root though so prepare to do that again. Maybe try a different method if your first attempt caused problems.

I bought my note 2 in germany and while I was at the store it looked like the demo unit had the new split screen software update available.
When I check for a firmware update on my phone it says I am on the latest version but thats not ture. My cirrent version is N7100XXALIE
I do remember during the setup of the phone it asked me what region I would like to select for software updates and I selected USA. I am wondering if that is restricting the update.
Does anyone know how to change the sortware update region to germany?
P.S. I know that I can update it to the latest firmware using ODIN and/or KIES, however I am currently on a 1 year international travel and do not have a computer with me.

Yes choosing USA restricts the software update until the device is released here, you should have chosen UK instead try to change it , and run OTA there will be an update. Then connect the device to KIES it will update to ALJ1 (multitasking)

As far as I know, wipe your phone using the recovery mode and then reboot as normal. You will now see the drop down option to select your country.

Ok i haven't wiped and surprising i just got an update to ALIH. No multitasking yet
I don't want to do a wipe. I spent hours setting this thing up. Never realized how much I rely on titanium backup. Maybe I will look for a computer somewhere and root.
If any one has other suggestions they are welcome!

So did u factory reset and choose UK as region or the update just showed up?

Hello!
I am a german user too. Yesterday I got an update to ALIH over WLAN at home. Today I installed KIES on my latop and got an update to ALJ1.
Now it shows me as Basisbandversion N7100XXALIH and Buildnummer JR003C.N7100XXALJ1.Yesterday when I switched my note on for the first time I checked System Info - both showed me ALIE at
the end.
I really can't interpretate this at the moment becaus I am a newbie with Samsung and Android as well.
Perhaps someone can tell me what this all means.

Is it 4.1.1 or 4.1.2?
Or better still.. 4.2 ?? (One can hope)
once i go back to stock, how exactly do i automatically upgrade?
would it be through KIES?
or would a message automatically pop up?
Just updated to 4.1.1 on Bell, too bad it not 4.2 but still way better than ICS.

"Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it"
and kies says:

If you have a non-stock recovery you will not be able to update OTA or via Kies. If you are using a non-stock firmware it won't update OTA or via Kies either.

Hi all,
I have rooted my n2.
My question is with the new update coming to 4.2, is it possible to update my firmware even though I am rooted as when I click check for updates on the phone it says I cant as I am rooted.
Will I have to un root and then upgraded (when it finaly arrives) then root again?

Don't complicate things Just download lates ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and flash with Odin. Then root again, it is a 3 minute process.... you won't loose any settings, data or apps.
U can update using mobile Odin when the new 4.2 firmware when its available via samMobile. It will keep the root. I hv been using it to update the last few times.

Hi all, i am total noob in android phones and the note 2 (was an ardent BB fan over many years).
Quick question if you guys don't mind.
I have Mobile Odin and I have rooted me phone; what I'm absolutely unsure of is, the new 4.2 firmware when it's available, where do I head to to download it? Do i save it as a zip file in the ext SD card and install it via Mobile Odin from there? If not, please advise the how-to please.
Many thanks for helping out this total noob.
Thanks

is the new update flashable with TWRP? Or just with odin? Whats with root? do i have to unroot the n2 -> flash -> root again?

If you flash with mobile Odin, there is option to keep the root. If you flash with Odin, you must root again, which is a 3 minute process, so IMHO is not a big deal. I dunno about TWRP since I don't have custom recovery, I don't want my counter raising

Many thanks for the advice mate! Cheers
Isn't there an option in Mobile Odin (paid version) to do exactly this ?
I guess SuperSU pro has OTA survival mode, that protects root access if you use the official Samsung OTA update. Full ROM flashes via PC Odin will not preserve root, Mobile ODIN will preserve root if you select the option.
I thought that samsung disables ota updates for rooted or "Modified" systems?

Why do you want to flash an older firmware? It seems to be a KitKat to KitKat downgrade that may work but without guarantee. Nevertheless: I would really like to know your actual bootloader version, check with this app -> LINK
