you need to unlock the bootloader install a recovery then adb sideload a rom. all of which can be done from the all in one toolkit.

I assume you still have you unlock token (Unlock_code.bin) file you got from HTCDev. Place that file in your fastboot folder.
Boot your phone into fastboot.
Plug USB cable in.
Start CMD, browse to your fastboot folder.
CMD: fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
Answer the question with Yes ofcourse.
Done!

The basics are quite easy actually. If you follow the instructions correctly!
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash custom recovery
3. Flash rom

Hi, i've unlocked bootloader, flashed recovery, rooted my phone now i need to get a good ROM. Can someone please tell me which is the easiest ROM to install without having to go to bootloader unlock, relock it etc...that will be a real pain in the as*.
I don't care which ROM as long as it has a better battery life than original version and solves WI-FI issues..
Thanks
First; try a better thread-name.
Second; I don't know what you mean, if you talk about unlock the bootloader again ..
If you already have done that, why would you need to do that again o0
Try IceColdJelly, it has Android 4.1(.1?), is very smooth and has a very good battery life.

In cmd (on your computer)
Flash the boot.img which you should extract out the Rom.zip you downloaded
Then flash it in fastboot.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then fastboot clear cache
Then reboot the phone :-

You need to flash the boot.img through fastboot. Put the boot.img into your fastboot folder and open a cmd window there. Then boot your phone into fastboot mode and run the commands "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and "fastboot erase cache"

it tells you EVERYTHING you need to know, read through it and other guides.
you are the reason ROM flashing shouldnt be available to everyone, you should have to pass a test first to ensure you know what you are doing and not outsmarted by a tree.

Be nice, this is supposed to be a friendly community. Some people know what they're doing, some have a lot left to learn - rememeber, you were a noob once.
However, on the other hand I have to agree, there are MANY forums and threads which explain the process of flashing a rom, recovery and rooting. There is no excuse not to use your eyes and the search features. Each Rom thread also has installation/flashing guides although very basic you should read anyway to avoid a brick or any other accidents.

as I understand from your statement that you havnt rooted your mobile and you are still at original RUU ROM, if thats true you may have 2 options only ,
1- re-install the official RUU for your device or
2-return it to the repair center

Ignore that, or any advice that says to unlock your bootloader to do so unless you already have unlocked it.
If you are fully stock and are not willing to void your warranty by unlocking or flashing anything report/return it to HTC as a fault.

What a ridiculous statement.
I quote the following from HTCdev...
"Unlocking the bootloader means that you now have the ability to customize software on your device. Please note that changing your bootloader can cause significant issues with your device and once you have unlocked your device, you have agreed to the disclaimer that states a change in warranty status such that in the event you render your device unusable, you are responsible for the recovery of your device, whether by repair or by other means."
Which clearly translates to...after unlocking your bootloader you are responsible (must pay for) any repairs. There is NO qualification as to whether carrier purchase makes any difference ANYWHERE in the T&C's.
There is substantial evidence ALL over the internet and REPEATED advice from ALL quarters that doing so VOIDS the warranty.

You don't need to root to flash a ROM, you just need to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery...possibly upgrade hboot.
A custom ROM will be pre-rooted.

Those two guides say essentially the same thing: that you need to fastboot flash the ROM zip's boot.img. The DHD's bootloader unlock provided by HTC is only a partial one, so it doesn't allow flashing to the boot partition from the recovery partition, so it needs to be flashed separately from fast boot.

Thank you very much... i'm really grateful
So I just spent the last couple hours trying to root my phone. Only to realize that when I unlocked the bootloader i requested the wrong unlock.bin file. Instead of selecting the htc m8 file, I selected all other supported devices. I don't know if this is the cause of my problem, but since I can't reboot to bootloader, I feel that it is. Is the solution as simple as relocking the bootloader and then unlocking it with the correct unlock.bin file. Or can i just get the correct file and unlock it again. I don't know if any of it will work since the phone won't go into the bootloader. Thought I would as people that know more than me before I brick my phone.

Quick reattack on this. I never actually went away from stock. As I couldn't get into the bootloader I never flashed twrp or anything so do I really need to flash the stock RUU? Just trying to figure out for knowledge purposes. Am I basically flashing the RUU to start over from scratch or is it just a precautionary thing?
