Hi there guys, I'm new to this place so I'm not entirely sure if this is the right area to post, hope it is XD
So basically, I have my HTC Desire, which I am unable to root. When I try rooting via Revoked, it gets to the screen where it says 'Make sure drivers are installed', but the thing is, when I follow tutorials for installing the drivers (Install HTC Sync, uninstall, connect with the Android 1.0 and update) the problem is, I do get Android 1.0, but I can't update it, it is just grayed out. But then Windows Update does something and it changes to HTC Serial Interface (COM4/5)
So in another tutorial I read I had to unlock bootloader, so I jumped on HTCDev and got the file and then it updated my HBoot to 1.03.0003, which apparently is not something that works or something? (I'm not fully sure, first time rooting D: ) and then I read I had to downgrade, but when I downgrade with the RUU it just won't work, it says to make sure it's connected even though it is. I am fully stuck, and really don't know what to do!
The guides I used (I can't find em all) are:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/09/20/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-unrevoked-method/

If I could get some guidance, maybe in the form of Teamviewer or something, I would be hugely grateful! (and if you could tell me how to increase storage space etc that would be AMAZING)

Hi,
I just received a couple of new Desires with HBOOT 0.93.0001 preinstalled.
Has anyone seen this before, and is it safe to root?
Thanks,
Adam
Go into settings and about and list firmware details.u might have a new radio too.
Hoot prob 4 slcd tho

You don't root a bootloader. But if you have Froyo, you will not be able to root it. You'll have to downgrade the software first.
Did you get the Desire from Vodafone UK? I know their new 2.2 OTA update changes the HBOOT to 0.93 apparently (which can't be rooted at present)
Thanks for the quick responses.
The Desires did indeed come from VF UK, and yes they are SLCD.
The radio version is the same as the one I've seen on this site: 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
Looks like I'll have wait until one of the hacking ninjas works out an easy way to get a root applied to a Froyo desire...

1. Can it be rooted
2. Is it slcd or amoled
It can be rooted my desires hboot is the same. I think its amoled but you can ring HTC and they will tell you.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If it was just the mobo and you were on 0.80 then you're on AMOLED...either way you can root without issues
Yes it can bee rooted mine is also 0.93
look at this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776696
same hboot, radio and slcd and i was able to root using unrevoked 3.21
Tried unrevoked 3.21 (4 - 5 times) and it would not root it. Spoke to guys on irc and they dont know why it did not work.
Wondering if I should go down the downgrade 2.2 to 2.1 then root then use a custom rom back to 2.2. I want to try the cyanogen rom really.
OH and thanks guys
What happens (or not) when you try?
Bascially it says its doing it but it aint.
Waiting for boot when its already rebooted.
Pushing recovery when its not.
connect device.

Any success yet?
Did you buy yours with this version of Hboot or was it upgraded via OTA? when?
a couple of mates have same problem can't root 0.93.0001
Yeah all sorted now thanks. Followed the "how to" at the unlocker
Rooted with unrevoked
Rom manager failed to flash 2 or 3 different roms so I flashed with Leedroid 2.2f using clockwork.
reports that you can flash cyanogen rom with amom ra bit not tried that way yet.
Happy with leedroid for now any way.
I had to send my .80 boot back to HTC for repair (GPS problem) and it came back with a new mobo and software.
You can root if you follow the correct "How to" some miss a few things out

Just rooted mine last night, no problems.
Am on T-Mobile UK, HBOOT 0.93.0001, radio etc all same as yours, all latest s/w from TMUK as I had just received it back from repair recently.
My steps:
Used Unrevoked 3.22.
Download htc sync, install, then uninstall the sync application, leaving the drivers on. Didn't need to mess with hboot drivers in my case.
Attached device, connected in disk drive mode with usb debugging enabled.
Ran Unrevoked.
That was it.
My PC runs Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit.
I follow the same steps still same hanging with "Waiting for root... (safe to restart if this doesn't work). My ROM is:RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC__ARA_2.32.415.3_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157343_signed.exe
I tried searching for this but to no avail.. if some one here has better searchfu than me just point me in the right direction but here is my problem.
Im using a 2.2 android HTC desire from O2 I was following the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044 here to Root it. I installed the Hboot drivers fine and got Unrevoked working as far as i can tell.
I launch it and it goes through the entire process of restarting my phone into Hboot and then restarting again and stabilising then It starts to root.. says sucess then quickly changes to say "Internal Error: failed to unlock NAND flash?"
It then stops there restarts the phone and has had no effect at all..
Any help will be wonderful

Are you trying to use Unrevoked forever? That only works on CDMA phones (no sim card). If you just want root and flash different roms normal Unrevoked is fine. To see if it went oke boot in to recovery and see if it says ClockworkMod recovery. If yes, everything is fine regarding rooting.
If after this you want to S-off and have a GSM (sim card) phone use AlphaRev.
Im using the version available from unrevoked.com which i belive is just unrevoked
As for booting into recovery i try that... all i get is the phone symbol with the red triangle and then dont get past that when i push power and vol up..

This man speaks the truth, unrEVOked forever won't work on the sim card Desire. I you should now have standard super user permissions. if you do want S-off you will need to go the alpha rev route.
tried using a diff version of unrevoked and this time it says failed to flash recovery image
I just went through all of this with my own phone a few days ago. from what I have learned and read Unrevoked will not give you Nand unlock.
Strange. I tried the latest unrEVOked (not forever) on my unbranded Desire, and did not have any errors like these (NAND unlock, unable to flash). I have:
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
except the radio is 5.11.05.27
Hmmm could it be the radio causing the play up?

Maybe.
But i should give it a try. Download the latest unrEVOked from here:
http://www.unrevoked.com/recovery/
Also make sure, you have correctly installed the HBOOT drivers:

I do definitely have the latest version of both of those..

You've searched too far back
Use the guides here to explain everything better: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/503471-desire-all-things-root-guide.html
Follow it all the way through particularly terminology etc. Everything you need to know is there
Then use the guide to 's-off' using revolutionary. It doesn't technically root but will fully unlock your bootloader which is more powerful.
Hi there,
So I've been using my Vodafone branded DHD for 9 months or so on stock Froyo and then decided to root my phone. After a bit of reading, it seemed Radio S-off was the way to go so I did that on software version 1.32 using Advanced Multi Tools and got Radio S-off and SuperCID. All was working fine however I had to upgrade as I had some Exchange 2010 issues which was fixed in Gingerbread so did the OTA updates which took me to software version 2.50 and now I'm no longer rooted.
So a few questions I have that I couldn't really find an answer to:
How do I get root back on 2.50 considering I've already got Radio S-off?
Do I need the goldcard since it's branded or not? Or just the PD98IMG.zip approach?
How do I get temproot first so I can back up all my data, apps, etc first before wiping or downgrading it? I tried the Temp Root option here but it didn't seem to work.
Here is all the details
Branded on Vodafone - CID was (and maybe is again as I cant check in the bootloader): VODAP021

You can try using gingerbrick if not use an RUU to downgrade to version 1.32 then use one click root to root your DHD
Yeah you will need a goldcard
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
I am not sure you will need to do all that as you already have s-off. That is the most important part. The new hack kit doesn't even require you to downgrade anymore or cause you to lose data. I have been putting my foot in my mouth lately with not so correct advice so I won't say too much more. But I sure wouldn't start over till someone responds that has more knowledge of this. Especially with all the updated tools available at this point.
As Agoattamer mentioned you already have S-OFF and presumably Radio S-OFF too.
The only beast holding you back is attaining root.
I believe fre3vo will root 2.50.xxx.x builds.
From THIS thread, grab the Downgrade.zip from the end of the first post.
Then follow this adapted guide.
Connect Desire HD to a computer. Charge only, USB Debugging enabled!
Open up a cmd and go to Downgrade folder, execute commands:
Code:
adb push fre3vo /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fre3vo
adb shell
./data/local/tmp/fre3vo -debug -start FBB00000 -end FFFFFFFF

That should root your handset. Now just install SuperUser from the market. You'll probably need busybox too, again grab that from the market after SuperUser.
Let us know if that works.
Credits to jkoljo for the original guide.
@4tifjaved, thanks for your response. Gingerbreak unfortunately didn't seem to work.
@Agoattamer, thanks for your suggestion. I tried what @andyharney suggested but it doesn't seem to have become rooted - e.g. Root Checker still says it's not rooted and I can't use a screenshot application as an example.
It scanned through various regions but in the middle of all the text that it showed, it had:
Code:
Potential exploit area found at address fbb6cc00:1400.
Payload verification failed.
...if that means something?
Any further guidance would be appreciated.
Any further suggestions?
I've searched through the forums but am not sure what to try...
Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
After reading abit of the advanced ace hack tool it says not to do it if you have s-off but also says it wont brick but you might have some problems. But if it gives your root then you can flash a new rom, etc via recovery.
Ace Advanced Hack Kit worked

Thanks for your suggestion to try the Ace Advanced Hack Kit. I had seen that kit previously but was a bit concerned with the 'Please do NOT run the hack step if you are already S-OFF' note it had. I think the warning is mainly for if it's S-off and a custom rom.
So I went ahead and used it to root - followed the instructions and within 5 minutes was rooted! It's a great kit, worked well and preserved all data.
Thanks for your help!

I wanted to install CyanogenMod on my HTC Wildfire. After searching A LOT on the web, I finally found something that got things going for me.
Steps taken:
1) downgrade hboot version to 1.01.0001
2) run Revolutionary
3) downgrade phone from Froyo(2.2.1) to Eclair(2.1) using RUU ROM downgrader.
And here is where I have a problem, a huge one. After using the RUU ROM downgrader, the phone started but the touchscreen and menu touchbuttons no longer work. I can't do anything to keep going.
I also tried using the recovery mode (power+volume down), but HTC Synk doesn' see my phone.

Thank you!
The RUU you tried has this problem. A lot of people complain of this. Your phone is not bricked. You should try another eclair RUU. Go to shipped-roms.com and download from there. You should be fine with it. From there on you can follow the rest of the guide.

I cant get into the phones main menu, as it will do 7 vibrations and stay at the HTC logo.
It detects zip files on the SD Card when booting into bootloader, but those are ofc incompatible, as they are from other phones.
ADB cant find / connect. So I cant enable USB debugging via ADB commands.
unRevoked wont detect phone.
Maybe I can (re)flash a (rooted) Stock ROM (zip) and start from scratch, even with HBOOT 0.93.0001 ?
And which ROM would need ?

I will try RUU then :/
