[q] hboot 0.93.0001 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just received a couple of new Desires with HBOOT 0.93.0001 preinstalled.
Has anyone seen this before, and is it safe to root?
Thanks,
Adam

Go into settings and about and list firmware details.u might have a new radio too.
Hoot prob 4 slcd tho
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

You don't root a bootloader. But if you have Froyo, you will not be able to root it. You'll have to downgrade the software first.

Did you get the Desire from Vodafone UK? I know their new 2.2 OTA update changes the HBOOT to 0.93 apparently (which can't be rooted at present)

Thanks for the quick responses.
The Desires did indeed come from VF UK, and yes they are SLCD.
The radio version is the same as the one I've seen on this site: 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
Looks like I'll have wait until one of the hacking ninjas works out an easy way to get a root applied to a Froyo desire...

1. Can it be rooted
2. Is it slcd or amoled

It can be rooted my desires hboot is the same. I think its amoled but you can ring HTC and they will tell you.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

If it was just the mobo and you were on 0.80 then you're on AMOLED...either way you can root without issues

Yes it can bee rooted mine is also 0.93
look at this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776696

same hboot, radio and slcd and i was able to root using unrevoked 3.21

Tried unrevoked 3.21 (4 - 5 times) and it would not root it. Spoke to guys on irc and they dont know why it did not work.
Wondering if I should go down the downgrade 2.2 to 2.1 then root then use a custom rom back to 2.2. I want to try the cyanogen rom really.
OH and thanks guys

What happens (or not) when you try?

Bascially it says its doing it but it aint.
Waiting for boot when its already rebooted.
Pushing recovery when its not.
connect device.

Any success yet?
Did you buy yours with this version of Hboot or was it upgraded via OTA? when?
a couple of mates have same problem can't root 0.93.0001

Yeah all sorted now thanks. Followed the "how to" at the unlocker
Rooted with unrevoked
Rom manager failed to flash 2 or 3 different roms so I flashed with Leedroid 2.2f using clockwork.
reports that you can flash cyanogen rom with amom ra bit not tried that way yet.
Happy with leedroid for now any way.
I had to send my .80 boot back to HTC for repair (GPS problem) and it came back with a new mobo and software.
You can root if you follow the correct "How to" some miss a few things out

Just rooted mine last night, no problems.
Am on T-Mobile UK, HBOOT 0.93.0001, radio etc all same as yours, all latest s/w from TMUK as I had just received it back from repair recently.
My steps:
Used Unrevoked 3.22.
Download htc sync, install, then uninstall the sync application, leaving the drivers on. Didn't need to mess with hboot drivers in my case.
Attached device, connected in disk drive mode with usb debugging enabled.
Ran Unrevoked.
That was it.
My PC runs Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit.

I follow the same steps still same hanging with "Waiting for root... (safe to restart if this doesn't work). My ROM is:RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC__ARA_2.32.415.3_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157343_signed.exe

thinking to root my desire

hi there, im really new to android devices and bought a htc desire last month. i just wanna know how to root desire? which one should i do first? downgrade HBOOT 93? (and what version) or root the device?
also how to know if you're using AMOLED or SLCD?
i read the forums and found topics about HBOOT and display issues about SLCD.
i hope someone here could guide me to the right path.
more information about the HW and SW:

You're already on FroYo, that much is easy to see. I'd imagine you're on 2.10.405.2 going by the radio, to check go to Settings>About phone>Software information
Why do you want to root? I rooted at first but have gone back to stock as it just does what I need it to...
hmm.. most of the nice and cool applications in android needs root access. same time i want to see if flashing my radio could improve phone's weak signal.
In which case I'd look at this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
Thanks EddyOS, i followed the instructions but in the HBOOT menu i didnt find the HBOOT USB?
When you connect the phone via USB it'll then show HBOOT USB - the option you're looking for is on the EVO only (the guide should say that but it doesn't)
Might wanna read these from the unrEVOked website...

[Q] Root PVT4 HBOOT-0.93.0001

I'd appreciate if someone could help me here.
I sent my phone in for warranty, and I recently got it back, they switched the mainboard. Now I'm unable to root. When running Unrevoked 3.3 (both with standard and custom, Amon-RA 2-0, recovery). It's stuck on "pushing recovery".

Did you tried the last unrevoked 3.32? If it doesn't work, mean u are missing something..check drivers etc..
I have the same phone, and after some problems rooted it with amonra 2.01 through unrevoked. Make sure you remember the unrevoked driver install.

Plz Help!!!!!!!
It says the root process was triumph. And then, it gives the error -- Validation Error: Back CID is missing.
Other Info:
-- I've no idea how come this is S-OFF -- actually, it's a used device I bought from ebay.in in India
-- Also, how to find out whether this phone is SLCD one or the AMOLED one. My another phone is Galaxy S which has Super AMOLED Plus and looking by its displau quality, I think the desire is AMOLED.
-- It would be helpful too if there is a way to find out its origin -- UK, Germany, etc?
Help!
First, uncheck "disable security" in unrevoked. Second, try custom recovery, amonra seems to be working for everyone. Mine has same specs and i successfully rooted twice, both time with amonra, but unrevoked forever is not supported, hence you have to uncheck that security thingy (can't remember exact wording, it's in unrevoked-file-...security...
Used unrevoked 3.2 Test to solve this!

Hey.. thanks for pointing it out but I already got it alright by using the 'unrevoked 3.2 Test' file. I know it was very risky and the test file was withdrawn by the developers because of bugs, but I just did it and it's fine now. S-OFF is still S-OFF, recovery installed fine, though!
Thanks you, again!
I believe desire is sold with s-off by default in India and China. Hence, its from one of these two countries.

Try Unrevoked 3.21. You can download it after a little search in google. I have same HBOOT and PVT4, and the latest versions of Unrevoked don't work for me, but 3.21 does.
I've successfuly applied new recovery and rooted with the latest unrevoked, but before that it was needed to roll back to 2.2 rom...

yes you can install custom roms now. but if there is a rom that requires 'custom hboot' like DATA++ or CM7 hboot etc you would have to s-off first.
also you never MUST flash new radios, it is only if you want to or if your phone doesnt work properly anymore (connection issues).
i was in your situation week ago. and believe me, it was worth S-OFFing my device. it was super easy (as easy as rooting, CD method) and the benefits are... well data++ roms are super-fast, and when i was using a2sd+ or data2ext roms (which is what you will be using) i kinda fooled myself that i dont care bout lags damn, now i couldnt cope with it !
if you want the -new Sense- roms (from desire HD or desire S) go for s-off it is worth it. if you want stock desire sense or non-sense rom, there is no need for s-off, since this roms are pretty fast, but using them with custom hboot will give you more responsivness when you will have lot of apps
all types of roms (new sense, old sense, no sense, miui) are available for S-ON users, but some of them will be kinda slow.

Thank you for taking time to reply !!!
Ur words gave me the confidence to move ahead further and apply the method to turn S-off.Now the phone is completely hacked and i installed CM7...what a change it has bought to the device...its definitely very much snappier than stock(eventhough i found it super snappy after my topaz...lolz)...Just like to add that rooting on Android is more complicated than HSPL nd other stuff on WM....but thanks to people like you and friends at xda made things very simple.

[Q] unrevoked3

I tried searching for this but to no avail.. if some one here has better searchfu than me just point me in the right direction but here is my problem.
Im using a 2.2 android HTC desire from O2 I was following the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044 here to Root it. I installed the Hboot drivers fine and got Unrevoked working as far as i can tell.
I launch it and it goes through the entire process of restarting my phone into Hboot and then restarting again and stabilising then It starts to root.. says sucess then quickly changes to say "Internal Error: failed to unlock NAND flash?"
It then stops there restarts the phone and has had no effect at all..
Any help will be wonderful

Are you trying to use Unrevoked forever? That only works on CDMA phones (no sim card). If you just want root and flash different roms normal Unrevoked is fine. To see if it went oke boot in to recovery and see if it says ClockworkMod recovery. If yes, everything is fine regarding rooting.
If after this you want to S-off and have a GSM (sim card) phone use AlphaRev.
Im using the version available from unrevoked.com which i belive is just unrevoked
As for booting into recovery i try that... all i get is the phone symbol with the red triangle and then dont get past that when i push power and vol up..

This man speaks the truth, unrEVOked forever won't work on the sim card Desire. I you should now have standard super user permissions. if you do want S-off you will need to go the alpha rev route.
tried using a diff version of unrevoked and this time it says failed to flash recovery image
I just went through all of this with my own phone a few days ago. from what I have learned and read Unrevoked will not give you Nand unlock.
Strange. I tried the latest unrEVOked (not forever) on my unbranded Desire, and did not have any errors like these (NAND unlock, unable to flash). I have:
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
except the radio is 5.11.05.27
Hmmm could it be the radio causing the play up?

You've searched too far back
Use the guides here to explain everything better: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/503471-desire-all-things-root-guide.html
Follow it all the way through particularly terminology etc. Everything you need to know is there
Then use the guide to 's-off' using revolutionary. It doesn't technically root but will fully unlock your bootloader which is more powerful.

[Q] Unrooting HTC Desire

Hey Guys,
I've got an HTC Desire, from 3 - it came with all the Three UK stuff on it (like the boot screen etc), but I rooted it, and flashed it with OXYGEN MOD, the latest one...but I'm now sending my phone in for a small repair job, and need to reflash it to stock.
I've made the goldcard etc, and am trying to flash it with an RUU H3G_UK rom, which I downloaded (RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.22.771.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127568_signed.exe). However, when I try to update it using PB99IMG.zip method, it says:
Code:
'Main Version is older!'
'Update Fail!'
'Do you want to reboot device?'
'<VOL UP> Yes'
'<VOL DOWN> No'
Any ideas as to what I should do?
Cheers. Phil.
Oh, and I thought I should post this too:

Yep this happens because you will not be able to downgrade the hboot with this official update, and because it is an old 3 rom, it contains an old bootloader.
You will either have to find a newer 3 rom with something like 0.93 bootloader or a newer wwe rom(3/htc won't care).
You might also be able to somehow flash an older bootloader using an s-off bootloader and fastboot, and then run the update afterwards, but that is way too complicated.
Which part of this?:
Code:
RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.22.771.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127568_signed.exe
...contains the HBOOT version?
It doesn't, but the branded official roms are always that old, and as the rom version is 1.xx i know it is an android 2.1 rom, which means hboot 0.75 or 0.80.
Also your error message state the problem quite clearly.
And to clarify my last answer.. No you will not be able to find a 3 branded rom with a 0.93 hboot, so go for a wwe instead.
What about this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Don't use that - your Desire didn't come on that 3 UK RUU so no idea how it'll behave as you have a PVT4 Desire
There isn't a newer RUU and those old ones are for AMOLED Desire's only - you're kinda stuck
That might and might not work. It depends on the hboot included. The topic you link to uses a hboot version 0.83, because it works with all slcd phones as well. So if the 3 ruu contains 0.83 as well, this should work, and if it doesn't, you wont be able to install it anyway.
Now for gods sake please listen to me when i tell you that neither 3 nor htc will care whether your phone contains a branded rom.. They might not even care if it is rooted. So please just flash the damn wwe 2.2 rom...
My last post in here i think you get what i think you should do and i cant/wont help you risking doing something stupid.
Good news fellows
I flashed it using this:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed
and it worked no problem, I'm now back running Froyo 2.2 woop. cheers!

[Q] Rooting HTC Desire, S-LCD version

Hello. I want to root my HTC Desire, S-LCD version, but I'm very confused with all the different guides, versions of the phone etc. found all across the web.
I have spent hours reading, but is still confused. Different opinions everywhere.
Most of them are pretty old too, so I don't know if they are up to date.
Is there anyone here who knows a sure way to root this phone, simple and safe?

Then just root using unrEVOked. You'd be better off using v3.21 as 3.32 doesn't seem to work properly
Ok, thanks. So given that i have PVT4, S-LCD, HBOOT-0.93 and all that, the standard unrEVOked method should work just fine?
Yes but make sure you use AmonRA as your recovery as opposed to Clockwork Mod as it's better for PVT4 handsets
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Ok. One more thing. Am I required to have S-OFF to use AmonRA?
