In General, yes. The steps to turn s off are a bit different though because verizon does not allow you to unlock the bootloader through htc Dev website. If you need help rooting/s off, google is your friend.

No problem! Most ROMs will say somewhere that it works with all carriers but it's smart to check just in case.
Have fun

s_off discussion thread.

To keep the development clean you can discuss here all related things concurring s off benefits and more.
Huh?
There is a huge thread that's never far from the top.
think he means that the thread is now development not development and discussion now.
Yes because that thread is cleaned a several times i do not want to risk its getting closed or the developer is getting sick of it and stops.
So please if you have something to say about soff that is not helping in anyway to get us nearer to a soff device please post out here if you want it of your back :good:
Just wondering, can we safely flash radios without S-OFF?

Yes unlike early version the radio is within the ROM. So if you flash a ROM with new base you are flashing with the new base.
What are we wanting from s-off then? If we can change the radio, remove carrier branding, change roms and sim-unlock, what else is there?

People want S-OFF so they can do stuff to their phones without having to use HTC's tool to void their warranties. I would assume that's one of the biggest ones.

The ability to flash boot.IMG from recovery is also a good perk. No need to get to a computer to flash a new kernel or ROM.

You can remove carrier branding without s-off by rooting and installing a custom rom but, for sim unlock, s-off is needed.

The LTEVO has s-off guys, go check that out, I think it would benefit one x. We technically don't need s-off tho, we can flash everything from recovery. No need to keep running to a computer

Easiest way to unlock bootloader

Hi guys
I just bought my htc one x
And today i would like to install custom rom, so i wanted to unlock my bootloader(HTC Dev website) as i did for my previous sensation xe.
But when i research on the internet about unlocking the bootloader, I saw people are using different methods.
Now i would like to clarify whether i can use the HTC Dev website to unlock my bootloader or i should do something else to unlock it.
Thanks in advance.

Are there any ROMs yet that aren't Sense based?

I've looked through the Development forums and haven't found anything. I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something obvious.
There are a couple that "de-sense" the rom as aroma option.
But no true AOSP yet as I can see.
I haven't installed a ROM using Aroma before. That is pretty cool. I installed Venom de-sensed. I like it better than stock for sure, but the one thing I'm really looking for is a ROM with a stock Lollipop dialer/phone setup.
Any ideas?
Edit: I see the Redbulled ROM mentions the GPE dialer, but will it work on a Verizon phone?

Cool. I hadn't seen that yet. I'll give it a try. I was able to install the dialer by extracting it from my M7 running GPE, but as soon as I start the call it reverts back to the Sense phone app. I'll see if that works any better.

nothing will work on Verizon until you can unlock the bootloader. and so far as of this writing Sunshine won't unlock the Verizon M9
I'm S-Off via Javacard and unlocked.

How Do You Install AOSP On VZW HTC 10?

Hey guys, I saw a thread a while back and I can't find it now but it was a method to get AOSP onto the VZW HTC 10. It involved adding some files into the radio or firmware or something along those lines. If anyone could point me to that thread or a tutorial on getting AOSP on my VZW 10 that would be awesome. Thanks!

S-off is needed if have a Verizon 10, it's the only way of flashing anything on it as Verizon disables bootloader unlocking by default on their devices.
But even sprint says have to be soff and do a firmware with no radio then u can use aosp I'm on sprint I just say that every aosp for spr and vzw need soff

This was fixed just a few days ago, see post #5 above. @tabp0le found a solution for the firmware problem affecting Sprint/Verizon users. S-off/modified firmware is no longer required. All ROMs built after April 28 should boot for all users thanks to https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/170030/
