[Q] AOSP Problems - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Basically, every time I install ANY AOSP ROM, these problems occur:
1) Proximity sensor during a call. [This has been discussed before on this thread but I've tried everything and I couldn't get it to work. I know for a fact that it isn't hardware and IS software because the proximity sensor works fine when I use the stock ROM. It's a problem with AOSP.]
2) Snapchat front camera [Whenever I use my front camera to take a video, it freezes, and then when the video is done recording it says "video cannot be played." Again, this only happens in AOSP ROMs. Touchwiz works fine.]
I REALLY hate Touchwiz based ROMs and I want AOSP but it's not usable for me if these problems occur.
If anyone can help, that'd be awesome!
Thanks in advance.

Why don't you just avoid all these issues that will probably not get fixed since they have been in existence for quite a while. Have you ever tried a TW ROM with an Aosp theme? You get complete look and feel of Aosp. Check out this theme and see for yourself http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2304251

I'm assuming that you've tried the Google Play edition ROMs? They are AOSP but offer much less customization than, say.. CM, Pac-man, etc. Lack of built-in customization options can easily be remedied though by using xposed GravityBox and other nifty modules.

I have tried Google Play edition ROMs, but the customization wasn't enough for me. I'm not familiar with xposed GravityBox, but I'll check it out and I'll see what I find! What exactly does it do?

[Q] A jelly bean rom that actually works...

i've tried a number of roms in the past few days.. one didnt have camera support, another didnt have google voice search.. spent hours on customizing, resetting, flashing, re-flashing, re-re-flashing...
does anyone have a first-hand experience with a rom that supports ALL device hardware (intl Note II - GT-N7100).
thanks.
This Rom is good and all work perfectly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925402
i was hoping for 4.2.2..
sorry i didnt mention that.
Could you be more specific? Everything works fine on my device.. Camera support - you mean the touchwiz camera? You can't get that on aosp roms. Otherwise they should come with stock camera. Have you flashed the gapps package to get the google voice and other google apps?
switched roms...
i loved the previous one (slimroms.net) but after spending hours on it, i couldn't get the camera to work.
the current one i use (AOKP) works great, other then voice search in Google now.
i've installed the additional package that its supposedly requires but still no go. i can live without voice search (unlike camera) until KLP comes out.. now i just have to figure out why the ability to install APK's went away... it used to work on this rom but something happened. the "install" option is there but its unresponsive.

Do some reading. I don't think you really know what you're doing.
Omega stock based rom will tide you over until you know what you're flashing.
wrong attitude...
so, just because i dont spend my days and nights installing new roms, it means i dont know what i'm doing..?
i dont claim to be an expert, but it seems that battling with hardware issues is something that even long time power users are sometimes having problems with... at least i spent some time researching and experimenting with my device before coming here asking for help.
talking down to people will not make you popular dude.

So why don`t you use stock rom with root? Or try Android Revolution HD, it is close to stock and fast as a bullet with great batterylife and all features are functional.
Depends dude. You got 2 ways to go at it, it's either cyanogen Rom s or stock based Rom. As far as I know the latest cm10.1 all have issues with the camera. So stick with stock based rooms, I would suggest using Alliance Rom 2.0 as I've been using there roms and haven't had any issues. The way I see it there are no bugs, only room for improvements.

[Q] Losing the extra camera when using a stock 4.4.2 ROM

I wonder what would happen to the extra camera when you flash a stock 4.4.2 ROM. Would it then become useless? And I also wonder what happens to the 'double tap to wake the screen gesture'.
Thanks

Do you mean AOSP? Because stock ROMs are exactly where those two features work. On AOSP, I'm quite sure those features won't be active. Possibly someone could port them over, but then it wouldn't truly be AOSP.
If you mean a Google Play Edition ROM, I don't think the motion gestures will work, but I think the second camera is supposed to be active and functional. Someone who's used a GPE ROM would be able to answer better though, as I'm on Sense, and I'm just pretty sure I read that somewhere.

I dont know about AOSP but on GPE both the motion gesture and the duo camera will work. On gpe just take a pic, go to HTC gallery, and edit the photo you want.

[Q] Stock Camera App to AOSP

I really love the stock camera app that is pre installed on the Find 7. I did find it sad that once I tried installing a new ROM like AOSP or Cyanogenmod, I lost the camera app with special features. Features as 120 FPS or GIF Animation etc are all gone. Is there a way to return the app back to such ROM or is there a similiar app that does the same kind of tricks?
Normally stock cameras won't work on any custom roms, there's dependencies and blobs from stock that would need to be ported over, It would be awesome if someone would be able to do this, the stock camera app was pretty sweet.
I would love to have this feature, I like the Google camera app, but it's nowhere near as powerful as the colorOS one.
Subscribed to this thread... Simply to expect some very kind developer would be kind enough to port Oppo Stock Camera App to be able to run on AOSP custom ROM or on CM12 with Lollipop...

German but they write it gave the camera app. You must download the file and install first CommonCamera2.apk and then OppoCamera2.apk.
I have not test it.

Almost impossible to work it out for AOSP.

Exactly the reason why am not flashing other ROMs as the camera feature is important as it is being used for work and leasure. I tried so many ROMs since my S2 days, however, after weeks of experiencing the Camera of the Find7a, and comparing it with CM and other android , the Oppo version really nailed it for me. Have you tried the super macro? Lately, this was included in the COS V2.0.5Beta.
You can try this now on AOSP builds, it works on my Find7a CM12 as the OnePlus One is a "hardware copy" of our Find 7!

My situation is, I can take using ultrahd but when I look at the picture size, it was only 3-5 mb max which to me that it's not working , on colour os rom, it was usually around 9mb. And the picture itself is much sharper. For the slow shutter, it can go up to 30+seconds,but in reality it's only around 2 seconds. The picture end up really dark.
oh yeah, the mod and plugins need an update to suppor the new cm/oppo camera blobs including it's HAL for it to work on newer roms

50mp/clear image/ultra HD doesn't work
Tried on many roms that support lvm, the closest to working 100% is omni rom, but still 50mp/clear image/ultra HD, doesn't work, but slow shutter wonderfully.

[Q] 4.4.x AOSP camera/snapchat problems. Solutions? HELP

Basically, every AOSP 4.4.x rom I have tried (I prefer AOSP) on my device has had camera problems. Unfortunately, I came from a device with a buggy camera already and just cannot deal with camera bugs anymore, so I'm stuck on stock 4.4.2 for now.
My camera bugs are namely that snapchat cannot take videos with the front camera (the one facing my face) and that it vertically stretches any front camera images. I haven't tested many other apps, but I am sure that if problems are popping up in snapchat, they will pop up elsewhere in apps like instagram, etc. Moreover, the camera is very laggy on snapchat. These problems are nonexistent on stock 4.4.2.
Aside from that, Open Camera was the only camera app I could find that wouldn't break the camera until a reboot, which was a tolerable problem because I like that app nonetheless.
I've tried CM11 M12, Liquid Smooth, and Gummy Rom. All have some sort of snapchat camera problem. On Gummy, I couldn't even get the stock camera app to take videos without breaking the camera.
I'm sort of desperate for a solution because I LOVED the battery life and performance I was achieving on CM11. But I just cannot deal with the snapchat camera bugs. I'll take everything working the way it should be over a performance and battery increase.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? ANY help or advice is appreciated!
Will try bumping this a time or two.
Anyone know if these problems are still present in Lollipop? From what I've read they are, at least the typical CM camera crashes are, so I assume the stretching in apps like snapchat also persists.

From what I have read in the CM12.1 LP thread by Matrixzone the issue has been resolved. A search of that thread should confirm or deny if that is correct.

Okay. I checked it out and things are a little unclear. Looks like the camera is pretty much working for normal stuff in the regular camera app. Instagram is reported to not be working, but there's pretty much nothing on the stretching. I may just go over to CM12.1 and try it myself.

Question Gestures in Custom ROMs!

As we all know, fullscreen gestures do not work on our devices (at least on mine they don't) if you are using anything other than the standard launchers, which is a complete no-go since they are devoid of a lot of features I regard as essential. Now I know no reason why gestures should not work on Custom ROMs but I have had no chance to try other ROMs yet (haven't unlocked my phone yet) but I figured i'd ask since the rom threads are pretty well populated and I don't want to ask on every single thread out there.
List what you use and if they are working, also maybe which launcher you are using
well on my ROM they do

Which one are you using?
I think every AOSP ROMs do have working gestures. For MIUI ones I think it should be working too, it depends.

Pixel Extended 4.1 (Android 12)
Gestures work in any custom ROM, doesn't matter if it is Android 11 or 12.
You need to install a third party gesture app of your choice form google store, then hide navigation buttons using Magisk Manager. Look for "HideNavBar" module and install that.
That's all, enjoy
