[Q] Google play services have stopped - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

hi all, last night i upgraded from cm 10.2 to cm 11 trough the updater and now i get a warning popup every 5-10 minutes saying that so and so app have stopped working, mainly google play services, should i re-flash gaps? thanks in advance

Try uninstalling the Google play services update and then update. I had the same issue on another ROM and it worked for me

i don't have an option to uninstall updates, only to uninstall the entire app thing

You probably have to flash kk gapps.. Uninstall anything gapps related and flash kk gapps

thanks, so what exactly are the gapps is it just like gmail, youtube, google play and such? will flashing kk apps just replace them?

No it's not those.. It consists of Google back up, sync, play store, and other things, but I think it'll be better to just wipe the system, reflash ROM, and then flash kk gapps.. You should be up and running by then

This. Anytime you are moving to a new base (in this case Android 4.3 to Android 4.4) your best option is to do a full wipe and fresh install. You can backup and restore your app data to the new version, just not your system settings.
The CM installer tried to outsmart this but if it doesn't work perfectly, just do a full wipe and fresh flash.
However, if you want to try flashing a KK Gapps package, I'm sure it won't brick your phone. So it's worth a shot to see if that fixes it. It will only waste 30 seconds of your time if it doesn't.

No. I said that WON'T brick it. That's why it's worth a shot.
No risk. High potential reward.
You might also try using Titanium to manually uninstall all google apps and services before flashing the KitKat Gapps package.

Why do we need to flash gapps?

Newbie here, Why do i read everywhere that i need to flash gapps if I ever flash my device?
Is gapps Google Apps?
Yes they are apps and framework from Google, like Google sync, Gmail, Maps, Talk... Google asked ROM developers to remove their copyrighted gapps from their ROM so you have to flash it most of the time.
Yes, Gapps is Google Apps, and it includes the Market among other things...
We have to flash it separately because google asked several popular developers to leave google apps out of their roms since it contained proprietary software.
another noob here, just about to flash a custom rom (AKOP to GNex) for the first time.
if i have all apps (user and system) backed up with titanium, do i still need to flash gapps?
(on a slightly less relevant note: i'm copying all titanium backups as well as the rom backup from clockwork mod rom manager to my computer so as not to lose them when flashing the new rom because i'm not really sure if they would be wiped. will they?)
thanks for your help
I have aokp ms4, annd flashed the gapps thats on aokps website. I lost the Google Music player.. Is there a way to get it back?

I would keep your titanium backups on your comp, just in case. I wouldn't, however, back up system apps as that can cause conflicts when you're restoring in a different rom. Just back up user apps. And yes, you do still need to flash gapps.

Google did not ask "several popular developers." To my knowledge, it was only Google sending CyanongenMod a Cease & Desist... because of this, developers decided to respect Google and stick to the respective Google Apps rather than including them in their ROMs. It is illegal to include these gapps with their ROM. However, you're fine with including them until Google sends that developer a C&D but only CyanogenMod received the C&D.
As far as TitaniumBackup.. you can also sync your backups to DropBox and now Box.

Download gapps from the given source and flash them via CWM like a ROM.

CyanogenMod at the time was a one-man project by Cyanogen himself. Not all these other developers who are now associated with the project.
@trissc: 1) Flash ROM
2) Flash Gapps
3) Flash Kernel (if desired).
NOTE: You will have to reflash gapps after flashing a updated version of the ROM. Otherwise you will lose the gapps.
Because Gapps are google's, they don't allow the third part developer use or edit them, but they allow users to download and install by themselves

[App]Google Wallet Installer

Google Wallet Installer for Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S3.
Requires ROOT, an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, and BUSYBOX!(A deodexed ROM is just recommended)
My newest project, RemoteFlash, was just released! Take a look and give it a try!
Wallet Installer Is Now Available For Free To All Supported Carrier Models On XDA! (Donations Appreciated)
My application, "Wallet Installer", will install Google Wallet on almost any US based Samsung Galaxy S3. It simply edits your build.prop and then places the correct modifications into your system. It downloads all the files from my personal server, which is pretty quick. Just select the appropriate Rom type: AOSP, JB Touchwiz, or ICS TouchWiz, and then your carrier: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or US Cellular. I also added a restore option for your build.prop, so you can restore it after you setup Google Wallet. Hopefully this helps you out and makes the process easier!
Wallet Installer has been updated on the server side. The credit goes to Paul Obrien for the new version! To install it, simply reset Google Wallet, delete it, and then rerun Wallet Installer! Make sure to also have BusyBox installed/updated!
Please donate if my work helps you : )

This sounds great except for the recovery flash. Does the app offer to skip this step so we can keep whatever recovery we may already have installed?

Unfortunately, no. It has to use an open, unencrypted recovery to flash the files. I would allow use of CWM if it was unencrypted, but it's not. An option I am planning on adding in the future is the option to backup your current recovery and flash it after TWRP has been used.

It sounds like you had a bad download. Go under your /sdcard partition and look for files like: "Wallet.zip", "recovery.img", "Fix.zip" and delete them(they shouldn't be there if they flashed correctly). After deleting those files, try again. Make sure you have a good data connection. Preferably WiFi.

Also, make sure you have busybox installed.
That's what it was...needed busy box installer. Worked great. I had the apk and files for libs but that was much better. Thank You, and nice work.

Technically the open recovery isn't an issue, at least not development wise. I use it because there are different versions of CWM rolling around, and they aren't all capable of the same things. This way, with an open recovery flash, I greatly reduce the chance of bricking/other issues.

After flashing this, can users return to the recovery of their choice, or are we locked in to TWRP 2?

You can go to whatever recovery you like! TWRP is only used for safety reasons during the flash.

It's not working for me. It reboots into recovery but doesn't do anything. Then the phone doesn't boot into the room and I have to re flash the rom
Edit: I to, did not have busybox installed. you may want to put a warning on the app
---------- Post added at 10:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:03 PM ----------
Also, if the build prop was edited to SPH-710 the Samsung voice program would still work
EXACTLY what I was looking for. I saw the entire post about getting it working, and just didn't feel that I was "qualified" enough to do what was required. I bought the app and figured I'd give it a try. It took a bit longer to download from the Play Store for some reason, but once it was done, it installed rather quickly.
I then ran the program, and selected as it was instructed. POOF it started installing, and then the phone rebooted into TWRP (I already use TWRP anyway), and all went well. I set up my account and that too went well. I tested it as I could and it works, then I decided to restore my build prop, after that again the phone rebooted, and then tested out wallet. It too works again.
Now then the only thing I am thinking about is automatic updates. I have to have that for another program for my work. I've seen the other post that you do not want the auto updates on. If on the next auto update it causes a problem I will report that here, but I think that just re running the program letting it do the build prop again, get it working, then restoring the build prop should be an easy fix for that.

Every time you want to flash a new ROM, you have to reset google wallet. Then you can use my app again, after the new ROM flash, and you'll have wallet again. When it comes to 4.2 in specific I can't give you a straight answer, since I don't have access to a 4.2 ROM. My guess is that it will work fine, but it's never been tested.

If I just update a new version of a current Rom as I do weekly doing a dirty flash or not wiping just clearing dalvic cache etc, would I still need to re-install the app. Or only on a full wipe or a new Rom would I need to start from scratch? .
Another question if I re-install the app would I need to setup the payment every time and add new funds or cards or would all that information be available in the account

If you're dirty flashing, you should be fine leaving Wallet as is, but if you need to do a wipe, you should really reset Wallet. All of that information is saved on Google's servers, so it will be there next time

[Q] CM10.1 trashed my Google account

Hi everyone,
2 days ago, I updated my SGH-T989 running CM10.0 to CM10.1 Experimental. I shouldn't have done it, but at 7am before my first coffee my mind just said "Hey! There's an update to 10.1! Awesome!".
Anyway, it wasn't a good move. Since then I can't log into anything Google. When I go to my settings and look at the accounts, there isn't even a Google account type to add to my accounts. So no Gmail, no Google Play, no anything that requires Google.
Anybody else find this? Can anyone help me get it back?

Worked. Thanks!
Got them from goo.im/apps
glad it worked!
for future reference, whenever you flash a rom of a different OS number, you usually need to flash a new gapps (google apps) file to get the correct apps for that update.
And a "dirty flash" means you didn't do a factory reset (wipes cache, dalvik, and data) before you flashed the new rom. You should always perform a factory reset before flashing a new rom (unless it's just an update of the same rom), to clear out the old apps and files. Otherwise you can have compatibility issues.

Having some issues with last three updates of task aokp

I can't seem to get Google now to work anymore. It keeps crashing as soon as I give it a voice command.
For some reason now, it seems like my phone lost compatibility with lots of apps. I can't update top the latest versions of the apps and download apps directly through playstore app. On my laptop, the playstore site says the apps are compatible and "downloading" but I get nothing on my phone.
I ve done a clean install of the latest update and cleared data for the individual apps that I've had problems with but I'm still not seeing any changes.
Any idea what's going on here? Is this something everyone else is experiencing?
(Didn't want to post this in the Rom thread since these issues are not just about the Rom, i think)

It's the gapps that you flashed.. he posted an earlier build shortly after which fixed the issue (just have to update Google Search app in the Play Store). This was posted in the OP.
I'd probably fully wipe but at least system and both caches and reflash the latest ROM and gapps posted.

explain clean install. i would recommend wiping data cache, dalvik, & formatting /system, /data & /media then flashing ROM/gapps. completely fresh start. what recovery do you use and what device was the version for (d2att, etc)?

clear data from play store and google services framework after reverting to stock dpi. then find a multidpi play store and flash it. then you can freely change the dpi.

Anyone Having trouble with in-app purchasing specially on viper or google apps?

Yes iam using LiquidSmooth Rom,also tried other roms and it has the same problem for some reason,is there any option to enable it or its from ROM or Build itself?
Or it could be a very simple explaination that the App either is not updated to Kitkat or does not like rooted devices.

In app manager, try clearing data on all Google apps, most importantly, play store, gms, gsf, gmail and any others you think might be closely tied to them. Reboot and reset up. If that doesn't work, try again but also uninstall updates. Reboot and give it time to auto update them again.

Best I can think of is to nandroid, odin back to stock with latest firmware, then flash your rom clean and try it that way. If it still doesnt work try again on stock touchwiz. This way youll know if its something wrong with your account, or something wrong with your rom and data. Also, from your computer, manually log out of any google services.
Restoring the nandroid data backup will likely cause it to happen again. Mine started working again on its own, so im not sure what the cause was...
