Does anyone own (or has seen) a White Nexus 5 which had it's battery cover replaced by a black one? I'm about to replace ny battery cover (white) and I was considering whether I should get another white one or instead buy a black one. The only thing that is holding me back is that I don't know how the matte back would look against the glossy sides my phone has. If anyone one has any pictures of what it would look like it would be great
Thanks!

I have the opposite. Black front with white back. Looks good IMO
Currently my phone has a black front, glossy sides and a white back (the normal White N5). I went ahead and ordered a black back for it, so I'll post pictures once it arrives. Basically it should look like a black N5 with glossy sides and a white speaker.

All combinations have been tried. There's a thread floating around here somewhere with the screenshots.
My black battery cover just arrived today Just to have something slightly different, I decided to polish the camera lens, making the trim silver instead of black, which I think contrasts well with the all black back. Here are some pictures of the results for those interested :

Nice. Question... it looks like it's a little bumpy/rough along the right side/edge of the lens. Is that an artifact of the polishing or something else? Otherwise I like the accent

Thanks! The lens trim is a bit rough due to wear and tear (I use the phone without a cover so it's pretty much always resting on the lens). Polishing will not make the surface any rougher as all it does is wear of the paint layer. What I suggest though is that you take the lens part out of the phone to polish in order to avoid getting some of the polish inside the phone.

In that case, my attempt will have to wait another 6-8 months till I need to change the battery. Or I have some other reason to replace the back
I have the yellow bumper case, I have had it for the last 6 months and it starting discolor around the edges. But I do enjoy the black on yellow color.

I wanted the best protection for the Nexus but the built in screen protector was a major fault (would not register bottom keys with screen protector in place) so I got the idea to change up the color when I removed the built in screen protector. Since I like the color scheme on my wife Rezound I wanted to take it to the next level. Plus it's the only case I've tried that fits the extended battery perfectly. And if I get bored with red I can always go white.
Materials used.
Spray paint for plastic
Extra fine sandpaper
Painters tape

Nice work!
Not a huge fan of the red but the rest of the case looks nice. Liked that some of your widgets match your case color
I do not care for the Otterbox but your mod makes it look better. It's too bad the Colorware mods are too pricey for my tastes because they make some sleek looking case mods for the iPhone, and this phone looks fairly simple to replace the plastic shell.
I like the red soft keys. What rom has that? I can't find it.

I thought about removing the screen protector myself. Any tips on removing it?
I have this phone in black. I am interested in looking into "coloring" it. I would use a plastic based spraypaint for the battery cover, but I have no idea in what direction to go in for coloring the rest of the phone. I would be interested in making the sides a color very similar to the silver on the S3 and the front to be white. I know that I essentially just described the white variant of the S2, but what would be beautiful is that the samsung logo would no longer be visible and you would not see the buttons. Any ideas comments or concerns?
Most paints will scratch easily but if you have an airbrush they do have metalizer paints which do look similar to the chrome look your looking for

Im not extremely worried about scratching because i do not drop it much. Also, if i noticed it scratching easily in my pocket or whatever i could always re paint it and put an invisible shield on it

Lol if you want to take spray pain to your phone go right ahead.. i can see a sprint tech already not wanting to work on it since its painted lol.. would look pretty nice though if it went smoothly.. but if painting it y go with somthin similar to whats already out? Might as well try to get an exchange for a white one lol

I did something extremely similar to my Hero CDMA back before I got this phone and it went pretty smoothly(Can attach pics if requested) and Sprint had no problem repairing it when my End button went dead. I do not wanna spray paint the front of this phone however because it is covered by glass which the Hero was not.
I remember a thread earlier in the year where someone painted the battery door for a brushed silver look, though I couldn't find it. If my memory serves he had to wet sand with a super fine grit sand paper. I think it's not a bad idea to find a way to repaint in custom colors, or at least a variation not seen on phones. Interested in what you find out about this topic.
Yes I also saw the one about the battery door. He used sandpaper and chapstick haha. I was interested in doing a gunmetal silver also. I'm not usually a guy for color. I like simple variants of white and black on phones. I do know how to fix up the battery door as it is a separate part and it seems pretty easy, but I have no idea where to start with the shell and front. The shell might be decently easy once I disassemble if I use a non-water based paint made for light metals, but the front has me stumped. How can I get to it when it is covered by glass. I know the simple solution is to remove the glass, but after that does it go back on?
You could experiment with vinyl rather than paint on the front. I have ordered from metrorestyling.com before and they shipped fast.
I could use that on the sides too. Thank you so much for that.
Double Dip Flip case, allows bits into your case and them bits harden and then scratch your aluminium back.
Just noticed 5 small black dots which will not rub off no matter what i do, I was loving this case and it's standing ability up until today, i've had it since day one, the red had faded around the edge and the edges of the flip had come off but it did the job, i take it off periodically to clean it but when i did it today i noticed some of the black marks which are sometimes left behind were not coming off.
I don't work on a building site or anything and i take care of my devices.
Just a heads up really.

hmm that's weird because if it's a scracth it should be silver on both silver and black version of the One, or is it something that comes off the case and stick on to the back of your phone?

Well i'm not sure, little bits do get behind it and the marks are really small, i just thought it was a bit weird that it had happened.
It's had marks on the back before and a little bit of zagg soap and it just wipes off with a decent cloth.
This time however it's left 4 - 5 small black marks up the top of the phone, which are black and i understand what you mean that aluminium is silver, but they're there clear as day, i'll take a pic tonight and upload it, perhaps it's just bad luck, but in over 5 years of using android i've never had a case do anything like this.
I know it's not my fault as i'm super careful with my devices, my S3 for example, never dropped it once in the 10 months that i had it. Same with my Desire HD, the Hero i dropped And my kid dropped under a bus
Anyway, the marks are clearly there and they are black as opposed to silver as u might think. I'll give it another good clean and maybe take a look under a magnifying glass to see if it's something i can paint in.
Do you have a silver phone?

I dampened a soft cloth with water and just rubbed the marks away. They're gone.
I've been debating between getting the black vs silver version and I just thought of something this morning. Would scratches be more visible on the black version? I prefer the black version but if after a few months it has a bunch of visible white scratches then I would def prefer to get the silver. What do you guys think?
I want the black version too and now you made me paranoid haha hopefully it isn't silver with black coating
I imagine if the black one gets scratches, it will be silver underneath. If the silver one scratches, it will still be silvery underneath.

I agree, which makes me question black as my intended purchase, but I really think the black is the better look and will just have to try and keep it looking good.
It's stainless steel, not anodized aluminum. It'll take a hell of a lot to scratch it, but I don't know what process they used on the black.

I had a black steel watch years ago while in the military. It was my "work" watch. The black stayed black even after years of abuse. If they use then proper process to make the steel black it should wear just fine.
Thanks for your responses. I'm still not sure. The silver looks great too, so I might just get silver to just avoid the risk.
The best coating on watches is called PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) and is (usually) black. If they use that coating then you won't have to worry about it scratching. I hope they use it.
I would like the black version as well, I think it looks good and especially also smaller then the silver one
however, I'm afraid it will scratch quite easily going by the latest pictures form this italian blog
in one of the pictures, imo you can see 2 scratches right next to the strap:

Might be the lighting, but yeah it looks like scratches to me. I ordered the silver one because of this. For $250 I'm not sure what kind of blackening process we can expect, but I will wait until reviews until I buy a 2nd black one, I'd like to be able to switch between the 2.

a bit off-topic here, but the LG G Watch R seems to use that kind of coating:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrQREak8WgI&feature=player_detailpage#t=185
maybe interesting for all of you who - like myself - are disappointed by the bad inital reports regarding Moto 360's battery life
did u guys saw the gallery from the italian guy that reviewed it last month??
on his gallery it was clearly visible that scratches on the coating revealed the silver underneath
thats why i have now chosen to take the silver even tho the black one is much sexier

My exact thoughts! I have had the Pebble Steel in black and I dropped the thing when I was resizing it and fell on the carpet, and even that put a mark on the stupid band lol. Not a scratch, but the matte black was not matte in the areas where it fell. You couldn't see it straight on, but I knew it was there lol. These are the bands people are now using to replace the stock ones that can be bought at your local Best Buy.
I have a lot of other watches that are stainless/brushed steel so black, even though looks kicks ass wouldn't look so good on me. I'm constantly running into things like my 6 year old lol.
This was my exact thought and bought a silver one. Plus, I'm very used to a silver watch. It tends to go with everything. Black I am sure would too but I feel like silver metal bands are also easier to find in more variety.
I doubt the black watch was painted. Probably power coated or something which is very durable. As for scratches, it depends on how hard you hit it and on what surface. Personally, I'm waiting for tempered glass protectors for the face. I hate scratches on watch faces.
Has anyone gotten a black one yet and noticed any scratches?
If you like the black one but you are afraid of scratches, just get one of these full-body skins: http://www.amazon.com/SkinomiĀ®-TechSkin-Replacement-Definition-Anti-Bubble/dp/B00J400P98

I dropped my black one on tile and nothing happened, I heard the case hit too... also I just scratched at it with a razor blade and you can see little lines in the reflection but it's still black :good:

Could you post some close-up pictures of it? I'm too skeptical about buying a black one for this one reason that I read everywhere telling that the black surface if scratched will reveal the silver.. But I'm so much taken by the black, I wanna buy the black! Confused now!

Mine's a mix of carbon fiber, leather, and hyperblack titanium. What's yours?
Hyperblack titanium all around. I tried some "titanium" but it was just a gaudy silver that looked pretty bad mixed with black, so I went all black. I was a little disappointed that the skin for the V20 doesn't fit as perfect as it did on the Note 7, but I doubt anyone would notice unless they have a keen eye for detail. The important thing is the phone is protected from scratches and it's got some grip now.
Have either of you noticed that using the camera skin in the rear wide angle lens "dirties up" the frame? Making it look like vignetting on the right of the camera. I think they need to make the holes a little bigger.
Still waiting for mine... In the mail...
I was contemplating whether to buy dbrand or buy case. Does removable back cause any issues with dbrand?

I got the exact same configuration, I'm glad now to know how sweet it looks. Also, can you please let us know what theme is that?
Yep same thing happened to me. Thought I messed it up and used another with the same result. I ended up cutting it to make the hole square instead of circular and it was enough. Also emailed dbrand to let them know.

I thought the holes looked a bit small but none of my pictures have looked like yours. Maybe your alignment is just a fraction of a hair off? Or maybe you accidentally put it on backwards? I noticed it's barely asymmetrical (the larger hole goes over the flash).

I couldn't get mine to fit absolutely perfect, so it hangs off the edge slightly, however it doesn't stop you being able to get the back off. Some of the corners on the case are rounded whereas the dbrand is more square. I highly doubt anyone would notice it except someone really looking for flaws.

YES!!! Now that you mentioned it I took a look . . . and you are correct. All four corners are darkened out. Can't have that!!
I saw a comment over on AC that some complaints have been send to dbrand about the issue.
They send out two lens covers. I think I make try modifying the second one and reinstalling.
Thanks.

My alignment seems dead on. Tried it with three different camera skins.
Anyone know which has the best grip? I read somewhere the black matte does.
Does anyone have dbrand in a clear case? Wondering if it cancels out the watermarks when using a clear case. ?

Yes. Can cover everything except the buttons.
PS. Guys if you have problems with edges just try to worm it up with hairdryer.
Its much easier to to make perfect shape as you can even stretch the vinyl a bit by pulling it gently.
This is mine. Done in the middle of march. I have to say the vinyl is very durable.
Nice, I decided to take advantage of a sale and try Slickwraps again. Plus they have customizing options now.
