Occasional tick/click sound from haptic feedback - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

juz got my m8. amazing build quality. amazing interface. I just changed from S4, and I can say the stock keyboard is much better!! S4 would get some lags on LINE app after awhile... but so far my m8 rock seems very good. I will wait a few weeks to see how it goes.
Separately, anyone encountered a very soft "click" / tick sound whenever the vibration haptic feedback? This happens once every so often (say every 10 vibrations will yield one "tick" sound). When i put my ear to the phone, it seems as though the vibrating motor itself is maybe not aligned, so there is slight rattle sound. NOTE: I have already switch off the SOUND click feedback. This is definitely a mechanical tick....super duper soft...
Is this common? Maybe in just ocd...
This phone is so perfect in all other ways...

Yeah I have it too.
Had it on my S4 as well so I don't care.

Strange doing when I click an icon or touch screen

Coming from Galaxy Nexus and got my HTC One X today.
1. This thing is a beast. I am getting Antutu benchmarks of 11000+ right out of the box compared to 6500 on Galaxy Nexus. Amazing!
2. Strange static sound when I click any icon. I do not know if it started after i rooted my phone or did it exist from before?a little bummed coz this phone costed about 650+. I have put it on mute and it still makes that small 'chit' sound which is annoying.
Everything works just perfect apart of this issue. Wondering if anyone has any solution to this yet?
PS: subject has a typo: it is sound not doing.

Are you talking about a sound that's made everytime you select something on the display? If so, it can be toggled off/on under: settngs>sound. It's in the last category toward the bottom of the page. The sound made when typing on the keyboard can be controlled seperately under: settings>language & keyboard>HTC Sense input.

Thanks for your reply, but no it is not that sound. I have turned off that sound already. It looks like it is a static sound and looks like it is coming from camera shutter. I have the sound set to zero through audio manager pro so nothing should be coming out. Very strange.
shake your phone near your ear, 90% chance you will hear a rattle, either the camera or the volume rocker, what ever is causing the rattle is the same that you hear when you press the screen, remove vibration feedback and you will feel it less
most One x have it so don't worry

I don't really hear a rattle. However the sound is gone automagically.

[Q] Haptic feedback - how is yours?

I've just got my 2nd OX after I sent the first one back due to the very very light haptic/vibration feedback from the screen and buttons.
I've just test the replacement and it's EXACTLY the same. I know the vibration works normally on this and the one I sent back but it's just so light compared to my SGS2 (*pukes*), my trusty HD2 before that and my brother's new OS.
So what's the deal? How's your haptic feedback? Is there a way to set the strength of it?
I guess that is normal. I also have the impression that the haptic feedback is way to light - compared to my Galaxy S2.
Yeah the haptic feedback is relatively light. I personally prefer it that way .
Heard that AOKP ROMS may be coming to HOX and from memory, I think they give you the chance to change the length/intensity of the haptic feedback.
It's normal...
It's much lighter than other phones... but I like it this way. The GNexus I previously had had an annoyingly strong haptic feedback, so i turned it off...
So I sent back my perfect OX for one that might not be perfect?
Is there anything I can do to increase the duration of the vibration because it really doesn't work as it is for me.
Definitely lighter than previous phones, and for better IMO

Plus one. I can barely tell when I've hit or missed the soft key I was going for.
Back in the days of Cyanogenmod on my Thunderbolt, I remember there was a ridiculously intricate section built right into the Settings app for adjusting haptic feedback durations, patterns, intensity, etc. Perhaps it's possible to incorporate those settings into a rooted OneX or other Sense 4.0 device.
Oh, sorry for bringing up a somewhat old thread.
My haptic feedback feels reasonably strong, more so than the LG Secret I had years ago (the last phone I had to feature haptic feedback). I don't like it at all though, it's one of the first things I turned off. It seems that with my very fast typing the haptic feedback lags a little, which gives the illusion the whole phone is lagging. It isn't of course as the UI is responding perfectly.
I have increased the feedback with the keyboard, I have SwiftKey 3 installed for that though....
Yeah, would love to be able to turn the soft key vibration up a notch. It's pretty useless as is. Either that or add some sound to them.
Flash a cm10 ROM. Problem solved. Haptic feedback is great

Nah. Not fond of Cyanogen ROMs.
HOX about two weeks old, not rooted running apex pro nothing toi fancy. First my feedback is more pronounced than on other phones but that's nothing compared to what I would describe as an alarm of some sorts (guessing) that is between 12 and 15 seconds at full vibration. If you've run a program to drain your battery with full haptic running. I'm at a loss and have reset phone 3 times, but it can't to good for the phone, and way beyond haptic feedback. Any suggestions? Ideas? Also, can't duplicate as yet and not really enthusiastic about tech support or store either.
Thanks

[Request] In Call volume increase?

This is something that I really mis from my s3 probably the thing I would pick if I could change one thing. The phone gets decently loud when playing music (and the quality is amazing) but in call volume I constantly wish it got louder and the same is true for the speaker phone while in call. I think even just alittle bit louder would make a huge difference since for me at max volume its right at the edge.
Anyone else feel the same? I cant be the only one and I have good hearing lol. Please someone fix this!
So far I am seeing my problems disappear one by one as mods come out (share button in blinkfeed, green battery now clear, 30 volume steps for games and music, ect)
That's odd... I find it too loud already just setting it up 2 steps below the middle level of the volume when in call.
Maybe you have a dud. I can hear mine at almost max volume just like a speakerphone on a cheap device. It really is quite amazing

IDK my dads HTC seems to exhibit the same behavior. I will test more to be sure but I doubt its hardware related since my speakers sounds strong with no distortion or anything.

speamer phone sucks

Lg did a good job with this phone save a few small things and one larger one. This speaker phone sucks. I have never used a phone with a worse speaker phone feature in my life. If I even attempt to make a speaker phone call I always have Tunnel sounds and low volumes and people on the other end can't hear what I'm saying. Is this a hardware problem or is the microphone somehow turned down when you make a speaker phone call?

I like this phone, but the speakers on it is garbage, it's not very loud and the quality sucks compared to Samsung. I won't compare it with the HTC one, because that phone ifs on a different league on its own. Comparing to other non dual speaker phone, this is by far the worst I've ever heard. For such s great phone, LG went cheap on its speakers. Even plugged into auxiliary in my car, I have to blast the volume just to get it a little bit loud, I'll admit the sound is clean but just really low through auxiliary. This and the fact that the camera does not have image stabilization really it's a big disadvantage for me. However it's different for everyone. I'm going to wait on the next HTC phablet, it'll have a better camera then the one with beats audio amp.
The camera does have an image stabilization feature on video. Never need that for stills though. Use multiburst.

I wonder if some people have defective speakers. My speakers sound the same as my Note 2 and zero issues with speaker phone turned on.

The vibration on this phone sucks too, it has the weakest vibration on any phone I've ever used. Miss calls all the time at work where I can't keep my ringer on.
there is an option to turn the vibration intensity up or down. since you didnt know this i assume you havent tried turning it up. theres settings for three things, touch vibration notifications and calls.

No I know about the settings, mine is turned all the way. Compared to htc or Samsung phones, heck even Apple, the vibration is too weak.

huh...maybe its the phone? mine seems to be pretty good and i just came from a one x to a s3 then a note 2 now this one. iam very disapointed in this speakerphone though, id take no vibrationjust to have a speaker phone that i can turn all the way up and use my volume apps and jam with.

Noisy vibration motor

Received my OP3 yesterday and immediately i noticed the vibration motor is kind of weak / noisy.
It makes some kind of rattling noise. Im not sure if this is normal or a defective unit so i was wondering if more people having the same issue.
Thanks :good:
Yeah, same here. It may have to do with the vibration intensity which may be set a bit high in OOS 3.1.2. But it's just my guess. You could try a ROM with a modifiable vibration intensity and see what the results are then.

Just seen the android authority review they state it as " Sub-par vibration motor ". I agree.
Somewhat agree, feel's very much like the same motor used in the opo. I don't actually mind it to be honest, phone may be silenced but instill can just about hear it when a notification comes in..
Yeah its not that much of a big deal, but im used to strong vibration motors i think i just have to get used to it
But it feels a little bit cheap on such a high end build
My S7E haptic feedback motor is strong but very muted/quiet. When I got my OP3 I immediately thought it was broken. It really disturbs me at the moment amd I hope I get used to it or find info about some units being defective so I can send it back for fixing.
Same here. But I had the side affect of knowing this behavior from my opo.
On my note 4 it was Better in terms of vibration intensity. The opo 3 is louder but generates less vibration. It feels and sounds cheap. Although I have to admit that for me it's not that big of a deal since I have my phone on the desk all the time and vibration for me is just a quieter way of informing me rather than having the sound on...

I have the same issue. In fact it wasn't like this before. I like to set a very light vibration when I type and I've just noticed a hiss noise each time I press a button/key. I use OP 3 for a week and it definitely wasn't like this before this moment. It may be related to recent update I've got yesterday (but this seems unlikely), or the engine isn't so good than I thought. Anyway that's a bit disappointing. Is your vibration hissing too? I can hear it even at the lowest settings when the vibration barely noticeable but the noise is still present. Sounds very cheap, even my $100 Jiayu sounded better.
Mine feels the same, too rattly.
Do you think there are a few defective unites around or is it the same on all OP3's and a bunch of us are more sensitive to it than the rest?
I did take mine to the service center where they said that if the vibration motor was defective in any way, it would just not work at all and mine apparently has no issues.
mines noisy and kinda weak as well but i arranged with it just fine
I have the same issue too. The phone makes a rattling noise while vibrating and it is annoying!!
Ask for a replacement!!
I have this vibration issue too, but it occured after some weeks, not at day 1.
I did a service request, described the issue and sent it in.
After some days my OP3 came back, protocol said "no service needed, all test went fine".
Funny thing, the vibration issue was gone.
The next morning it was back again and now I'm in forum right now, looking for a solution...
Oh man, they used the same cheap and rattly vibration motor they used on the One, not the good one from 2. I just realized.
