I guess I got a little bit too hyped about ICS and tried to update my SPH-D710 with a nice little tutorial. It worked pretty well until I realized that the modem/wifi/home button (and who knows how much more) don't work. No big deal right? I found the stock firmware and powered up Odin... Except my phone is no longer recognized by ANY computer. I've tried XP, Vista, 7 (32 and 64). I've installed the drivers or Kies and played with every combination I could find... but absolutely NO love.
I can boot into the up-home-power screen that looks like it would allow me to load firmware off an SD card, but I can't seem to get that to work. Is this phone completely screwed?
no you aren't completely screwed. if you can do all that there is hope. there is a couple threads by viperboy about ics. many people who jave been able to turn it on and all that have recovered. either find the threads or ask him. you are very lucky dude.
I've been looking thru viperboy's posts and can't seem to find anything that really applies to me. Is it weird that the clockwork screen won't let me pull anything off the MicroSD? I feel like I've run completely out of options here.

Wait, so you do have a custom recovery installed (CWM).
I think so... It's "android system recovery 3e"... It doesn't detect my SD card though for whatever reason... just gives me "failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)". Is there a certain file system the SD card needs to be formatted with? It's currently Fat32.
in the ics thread from viper in general. lots of people flashed it then wanted to go back. I'm unsure of what they did aa I have never didi it. but I know they got back up and running. maybe the uk drivers idk. but the still is hope dude.
How does this happen? People need to start paying more attention when flashing. You have a $500 phone. How did u flash this rom? By recovery or Odin? If u used Odin it worse cause that means u flashed the international bootloaders and u will need the drivers so your computer can recognize it. Let us know what steps u took.

No you do not have a custom recovery... What you are describing is the android stock recovery. You are not going to be able to flash anything with that. My suggestion would be to get Mobile Odin. Since your radio is not working, you will not be able to download it from the market, thus you will have to get the .apk to an external memory card. Then install it that way. After that, then download a stock tar file to the card. Flash with the mobile odin and Viola you should be up and running.
Exactly what I needed to hear. Appreciate the help!

Actually shredder once you get mobile odin up and running. I would flash a custom recovery/kernel next. Here's a link to Rogue's recovery/kernel. Download the odin tar file. Then flash the file via mobile odin. This will give you a custom recovery. Once you have this, you can then use the rogue recovery to flash a new stock ROM.

First prob is you will need root for mobile Odin. Second is you can not achieve root with file you flashed. I have helped out others in this same situation. Both phones that boot and ones that wont boot. All have ended unsuccessfully. The only way sofar is either Jtag service or play dumb at your local sprint store. I will post some example threads and jtag links for ya. BrB.

If it's a company phone, find a large magnet, rub it all over the phone, then call your rep. I have had to call in atleast a dozen warranty replacements at my job because the end user carried their phone into an MRI room (We own/partner with diagnostic imaging centers). Our corporate rep had no issues with warranty replacements. However I will let you know this now. If your rep is a third party company, Sprint changed their policy on how third parties have to handle warranty replacements. Once the replacement is submitted, it must be handled 100% by the actual Sprint Rep, the third party rep is nolonger permitted to process warranty replacements.

No not on my et4g .But I did do this on a vibrant but there is a way to force a brick. Then you can start back from scratch. It's called eugene's froyo that does not brick. But it does soft brick the phone and resets the bootloader. This is what is needed for the et4g. I am in talks with other dev's from the vibrant forums to try and get one a phone.

Ok now I see
I posted this thread a few days ago and surprisingly nobody was helpful at all.
I am rooted and with stock rom LG8
I am NOT familiar with all the jargon of you root gurus
1. Can you please tell me where there is an updated list of updates?
2. Can you please give me step by step instructions on how to update?
3. Is there a full working english version of Jellybean anywhere?
Thanks

Im sorry, maybe im just flat fukkin stupid or something, but that didn't help me.
I rooted so I could have free wifi tether.
1. I dont know what a stock recovery is.
2. I dont even know what a rom is.
3. I dont know what a build is.
I just want to UPDATE MY DANG PHONE!
Well unless you can/want to learn about what your phone is and what it can do. I suggest you follow this step by step.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypmqJbZqOaU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
It'll unroot you, you will lose your free WiFi tether. But you will be able to take all the updates you want. Then pay $30/month or whatever it is and get Sprint tether.
You should only root if you know how what's what with the tech world around your phone. Or have the willingness to read and understand all the information within threads that you want to learn from.

If you are rooted but stock LG8 and you want to update to LI3 and maintain root you can do this by following the steps here.
It is a pretty simple process but you need to know how to flash an update in the Clockworkmod recovery. If you are rooted then you likely already have a custom recovery (like clockworkmod or twrp). Just download the referenced files, copy to your internal sdcard, boot to recovery, make a nardroid backup (optional but recommended), flash the update, flash the TeamEpic file and then reboot.
It does not get much simpler than that. If you can't handle this then you should really save yourself some trouble and unroot and take the update normally.

I followed the video, and Im updated to LI3. What was getting me was that I couldnt find a video or instructions for the current update. Nor could I find a single source for latest updates.. I was getting confused with the different roms out there and such..
Im an expert at modding xboxes and nintendo Wiis, but I couldnt find a noob friendly source for explaining what anything is.
Anyways, thanks for the help
I've tried the method detailed here http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...oot-your-sprint-galaxy-s3-23.html#post3158960 using both CWM and TWRP but neither can mount the SD card (internal or external)
A user in the Android Central forums seemed to be describing the exact issue I was having in the support thread linked above and mentioned a Toolkit method working, so I researched and found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746680&page=46 but the link to the files is gone, and the support thread was closed Oct 18th (a couple of days ago), and no explanation.
Also tried the CF method detailed in this vid (among other places) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pg3C4ddgNww Root Checker said no-go.
Any ideas what's up and will root be possible on the phone I bought 2 weeks ago? I'm gutted because I did my due diligence and researched the root methods for the S3 before getting it. It all looked so easy then, but I've been in front of my PC for hours trying to get this. Have I missed something?
Really could use that hotspot next week. :/
Thanks, and I sincerely appreciate all the efforts put into development.

I made the mistake of thinking Skunkape's thread over at android central was the linking to the same file. It was the same named file, contained what apperaed to be the same files int he zip, same user name and instructions. But it's not the same file. I redownloaded the file at the start of the XDA version of the thread, tried again and now have root. Sweet!
I added a comment to the android central thread but I hope the OP is updated when Skunkape has a chance. For years I've seen the same instructions on both sites by the same users, linking to the same files. Defo got caught out this time. Doh!
Thanks for the reply metalfan and rock on!
You're welcome syco, glad I could help. I've learned to just get everything I need from xda. I go to other sites for info but I always double check things with the good people around here.
Hey guys, I am new to this forum here but before anyone flames me, I did read the faqs and tried to uninstall from there but it did not work out. Apparently I dont think you can get rid of CM11 since you cant install any stock firmware older than it? Before I installed CM11, I was on jellybean. I had tried to find the latest kitkat update for the s3 (att) and there is no file of it found online (tried sammobile). When I tried flashing an older firmware with ODIN, it just fails at "NAND!". Any help would be appreciated. I am COMPELETELY new at this so specific directions would be appreciated!
I really do love cyanogenmod but there are simply too many glitches and not enough guidance on how to fix em. I am, however, currently using it on my HP touchpad, if anyone remembers what it is . Maybe ill go back to using it in the future.
thanks!
Your rom (cm) has nothing to do with what firmware you can or cannot flash. Once you have updated to 4.3 firmware or newer, you can only flash the same or newer firmware in odin from now on. (Regardless of firmware you can still flash older roms btw)
Using terminal emulator, enter this to find your current firmware build:
getprop ro.bootloader
I suspect you are on a 4.3 build. So odin flash that same firmware. You can find it in these forums. After that you can get the ota to update fully to kk.
There are other methods of updating. Just check the General section. (enewman17 has a few threads that will help)
Note: anytime you go between touchwiz and non touchwiz roms, you will have to factory reset or it'll hang at boot.

I am on "I747UCUEMJB"
and i am not sure what build i am on but according to my "build number"this is what it says: "cm_d2att-userbug 4.4.2 KOT49H"
The main issue is, I cannot find 4.3 update anywhere on the internet
The MJB is your current firmware/bootloader build/version.
The build number displayed in settings only represents the rom, which is often different, and doesnt really matter to much.

i have no idea what MJB means (i google'd it) and i just found out what my bootloader version is via download mode (its at the very bottom) and i have version 2.0?
ok downloading the giant file now. will report details. just follow instructions in the first link?
[sorry, like i said, im a noob so i really apologize for the lack of terms here]
MJB is just short for I747UCUEMJB. Sorry if I confused you. And the S/W revision being 2.0 is what Odin uses to know what firmware it is allowed to flash. In this case 2.0 tells odin it can flash the MJB firmware, or anything newer.
And yes, follow the instructions he posted and you should be fine.
Oh, and if you did not run the getprop command I posted before, please do so before flashing....just to be on the safe side. If it returns I747UCUEMJB, you are good to go. If it returns anything else, let me know before flashing.

Cool! Got it. I think that was my main problem. I could only find 4.0 (or 4.1) and have been trying to use that on ODIN. Perhaps that was the main issue....
Oh already ran it and got "I747UCUEMJB", sorry if didnt say it properly.
Really appreciate the help! Ive at this for days and no solutions. Sometimes the hacking/custom firmware isnt for everybody
Ill update what happens. Download is taking forever.
EDIT: BTW, for the first link, which poster am I gonna have to follow? im assuming "garbage guy"?
I though you did run the command already, but just wanted to be certain is all. For some reason AT&T stopped releasing their firmware, which has been causing all kinds of problems for people.
Anyway, it sounds like you are good to go! Good luck!
Oh, and if the firmware you're downloading is a .zip or .7z file, make sure you extract it first. Odin only flashes .tar and .tar.md5 files.

Awesome!
really glad to hear that! The only thing I can think of thst you might want to do next is backing up your nv data. The following is a copy/past from a post I made a few min ago... root is required to fo this btw, just so you know.
(Since you are looking to update though, I recommend waiting till you have updated before rooting and running this backup)
It's a super simple procedure and will create an on device backup of your nv data. The backup will be stored on a couple of partitions we never touch, not even with firmware flashes. This essentially makes it a permanent backup. The cool thing about it is every time you reboot, the system checks for any corruption, and if detected, it will automatically restore from this backup. So if it were to ever happen, you probably wouldn't ever even notice it!
Install the Terminal Emulator from the play store. Open and enter this:
su
reboot nvbackup
Thats it! Device will reboot and create your backup. This should prevent you from ever suffering from a lost IMEI!

That has been released, but OTA's are generally rolled out in stages over several weeks. Usually done by region. So it msy not have started in your area just yet.
Two alternatives you can try though, install kies on your computer and update through that. Or there are a couple if threads in the General section that provide the ota for download.
Enewman17 has a few threads helping folks to update so I recommend checking them out as well.
Ive heard that some people have gone to best buy and they were able to initiate the update there. I dont know much more about this though.

Thank you! I will look into this. I just figured for some reason...I would have some data left from cyanogenmod, if that makes sense. In other words, i want my phone to be as fresh as possible. Factory resetting with stock recovery installed wipes all data except the external sdcard. I am so sorry I should've mentioned this before. I was thinking you had already done one at some point and didn't have anything left to worry about. Still, I should have asked and I do apologize for that. Hopefully if it was really important it was saved to the external sdcard....

[Download] AT&T Kitkat OTA file - thread by bkong
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788012
I suggest trying the third one by bkong first. He posted a pure OTA file you can try to update with.
The first option is a recovery flashable firmware, but does not include the /system (ROM) portion. To fully update using this you'll flash the firmware per his instructions and then go to his development thread for the stock rom. It is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788357
The second option is the OTA file, but it has been slightly modified to skip certain file checks. If the original OTA doesnt work, theres a good chance this will. (Since you are full stock now either one should flash without issue).
Hope those help! I recommend doing a bit of reading about each one (at least the OP and last few pages) and start with whichever you are most comfortable with.
Or, you could always use that most valuable tool, patience, and wait for the OTA to roll out for your area.
Good luck!

Good luck!

No no! Its fine, I wasnt planning using it or anything, I just wanted to get rid of it since I have no use for it, no need to apologize. , I was fully aware that I would lose all files, other than SD ext drive. I just wanted to make sure that all files are in the right place and none of the unnecessary files are taking up space (e.g. files from cyanogenmod)
As for the update, I talked to a samsung representative and they said one can go to Best Buy and get it updated there through a technician, so Ill try that later since I am close to it ATM. If it back fires, Ill try your suggestions.
I really do appreciate for the help , I have been completely lost for days but it turns out I was just using the wrong firmware. Thanks for pointing it out. Good karma is coming your way . Hopefully one day, I will be here again and trying out a new custom firmware.
Glad I could help!
If I remember right, someone who mentioned the best buy thing had said at the time that the first store they went to did not have the update yet. But I think they found another in their area did. So if they say its up to date and cant help, you might find another store close by can. (If there is one of course!)
Just fyi so you're not too surprised if that happens.

Of course, if the worst happens, I can just use one of your links you mentioned. :good::good:
I recently installed TWRP's custom recovery on my V495 AT&T but trying to boot into recovery gives me an error and not being familiar with Flashify I missed the step to backup the stock recovery.
Can someone be kind enough to please send me the stock recovery for the AT&T V495 that is made and Flash able through Flashify? Thank you all!!
PS> Warning for others with V495 that want custom Recovery. = Once rooted you can install flashify and the instructions for V496 custom recovery all work without errors but once you try to install TWRP and reboot things may go wrong.
Can someone please upload the stock (v495) recovery created by or flashible through flashify?
I have a new/ rooted v495 that I have not messed with the boot loader. If you can point me in the right direction on getting you a copy of the stock boot loader I would certainly be happy to.

I figured it out. I sent you a message with the link. You can repost it if you would like. I still do not have my 10 post quota yet to be able to provide external links.

If there's a KDZ or TOT available, you can extract it on Windows with WindowsLGFirmwareExtract-ver.1.2.5.0, available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575.
My tablet is messed up, stays stuck on att logo after I manually tried extracting and installing xposed framework files. I cannot extract anything on mine.... Unless ure telling me the tot file is on that other forum? Sorry I'm on my phone and driving, can't check in detail
EDIT: read your post right this time, like I said I was driving... No, there's no tot or kde file for my tablet

Haven't seen one. Just the TOT without the necessary .DLL.

I understand. Although there were at least KDZs for my VK810, we didn't have a known tested TOT until a few months back when a fellow user was nice enough to purchase, test and share the TOT for the VK810 from this site http://www.lgbbs.com:41/thread-838-1-1.html. Since we had KDZs available, we were able to extract the necessary .DLL from one of them.
I know someone else recently looked on that site for V495 stuff but you might want to look again and/or use Google Chrome to translate the site (slow but effective enough), and maybe even there's a section to put a request or a bounty up for a .DLL or at least KDZ, which you'd be able to extract the .DLL from. It appears the standard prices of items is $10 U.S., from what I could tell.
Not advocating the site or the fact that they sell the stuff, but when there's no other option, and at least it's not an arm and a leg.
suspected root.
trying to update after root, what exactly do we need to do to get this Update going? btw i only have a little experience rooting. and that was an HTC about 4 years ago. So far i have Flashfire installed which says can Flash OTA updates but LG is untested. im not going down that road without unlocked bootloader and a rom to pull my ass out of the bricks, unless someones has success already.
So far i haven't heard of an unlocked bootloader for The V495, can we do that yet?
i'm hearing about flashify, never used it, what does it do, how does it work?
Is there a way to remove root evidence with Android studio?
Why don't penguins Fly, do you suppose they miss it?

I can only address some of your questions.
Flashify simply flashes stuff like kernels and recoveries, but it's limited as to what it can flash and I doubt if you'd be able to flash an OTA with it. There are other apps that do the same thing with the same limitations. Also, just because it can flash something doesn't mean that's all that's required to get it to work. What I mean is, to use an example that doesn't necessarily apply to you or the V495, some LG devices require a certain older version of the bootloader (aboot) in order to be able to get into TWRP, so if you're rooted on a later release of the stock ROM (with newer bootloader) you could flash TWRP with Flashify, but you either still won't be able to actually get into it, or you might not even be able to boot at all after.
Flashfire is reasonably early in its development - having only yesterday been updated to v0.51. I've only tested a little bit. On the Verizon LG G Pad 8.3 VK810, backups seemed to work okay, but I haven't tested restoring through Flashfire. I was able to successfully flash a ROM made from the stock tablet ROM but no matter what it doesn't keep root, even when the ROM includes the necessary SuperSU.zip and flashes/roots fine in TWRP. Flashfire's Everroot option, or having Flashfire flash SuperSU.zip separately didn't work on that device either. @Chainfire said there were segfaults in the log and has no way of determining what's causing them.
I would say you are wise not to try to flash anything without having a way to recover - there are enough people on here with broken V495s with no recovery option already.
Regarding removing root evidence: From Lollipop on (at least on LG), OTAs check to see if your system (and possibly other not normally modifiable) partitions have ever been modified. It doesn't explicitly check for root, but rooting your device usually modifies the system partition. Before Lollipop, OTAs commonly only checked if the files the OTA would update have been modified from their original. OTAs don't normally contain copies of the entire files that will get updated - it contains a "delta", which is basically a list of "change this into that", as quite often files don't need to change completely - only be modifed to be up to date.
You can't reasonably "unmodify" your system manually. Only by flashing a 100% stock unrooted ROM.
*If* or when Flashfire works, it could conceivably get around a modified system partition, but it'll be challenging and might take some time for @Chainfire to support all or most OEMs/models working as smoothly as it does for the #1 primary devices he's testing it on, which I believe are Nexus devices.
I talk to penguins all the time and they do miss flying, especially when they're the prey.

LOL re: penguins!
I have a link for where to keep an eye out or possibly request in the post right above yours. tl;dr There's only a TOT available for the V495 that anyone's found so far. It's available in one of these threads in these G Pad 8.3 sections and I've even uploaded it elsewhere just in case the only source I noticed for the link goes down. The bad news is that there's no .DLL available to use with it, which makes it at minimum partially or mostly, at maximum fully useless.
It's fully useless without the .DLL because you can't use the normal TOT flashing software to flash it to your V495 - you need the .DLL (as I've recently written somewhere, maybe above in the post I reference or nearby), the .DLL that's necessary would probably be able to be extracted from the KDZ for the V495 - but there's no KDZs that've been made available. KDZs include the .DLL necessary, TOT's require an external .DLL.
It's partially or mostly useless in that the TOT can still be extracted to obtain the individual partitions. It's conceivable that Flashfire might be able to flash either those partitions or a flashable zip made out of them as long as you're successfully rooted, although I have no idea if Flashfire works with anything but SuperSU - I believe it specifies that SuperSU is required but there's a chance it'll work with Kingroot or another root app.
I'm fully willing to make a flashable zip out of the TOT for anyone who wants to test it - just be aware of the dangers that you might end up with a brick with no way to recover since I'm guessing that there's no TWRP for the V495 and I don't even know the root capability since I don't have that device and I only follow the threads regarding it just to help where I can. If you do have root it's at least somewhat comforting that Flashfire worked fine for flashing the stock ROM on the LG G Pad 8.3 VK810, albeit without being able to re-root it as part of the process. Let me know if you're rooted and want to test such a flashable zip with Flashfire (which would probably be the safest/most trustworthy app that has capability of flashing zips).
I don't have enough knowledge to know how to figure out how to root any device that there's no established method for, nor have I ever made TWRP for any device.
I do know that Kingroot is very invasive and is sometimes only a temporary root, requiring re-rooting every time you reboot. It puts things on the system partition that run in the background - all sorts of things not necessary for simply rooting or keeping root, so who knows what kind of calls home it makes and with what data. I've only used it before as a temporary root in order to establish an alternate way to get TWRP installed on the Verizon G3 VS985 without fully downgrading the stock ROM to a more easily rootable/TWRPable version, and ultimately my method leads you to flash a ROM that uses SuperSU so that Kingroot is completely gone anyway.

If I buy another V495 do you think I could use the KDZ/TOT extractor here to fix our V495s?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575
Or maybe someone with functioning V495 could extract the KDZ/TOT or DLL for us?

Having another V495 wouldn't get you a KDZ or TOT. The KDZ/TOT extractor takes an existing KDZ or TOT file and extracts it into the separate partitions - it has nothing to do with making a KDZ or TOT out of an existing device. There's currently no way to do that. And the .DLL isn't available except inside a KDZ, it's not on anyone's running V495.
