[Q] Question about SuperCID - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an HTC M8 Asia Taiwan version, but i wanted the European WWE version so I S-OFF and SuperCID.
I followed the guide in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235 and successfully put my phone to
build 1.54.401.5. I thought with SuperCID I will not get any OTA update but I immediately got a prompt to update to
1.54.401.10. I then downloaded the 1.54.401.10 firmare.zip and flashed it from fastboot. When I run getvar I see my version
is upgraded to 1.54.401.10, but when I turn up my phone , I till see the build number as 1.54.401.5, and I still get a prompt
to update to 1.54.401.10.
First, is this normal? I thought by flashing 1.54.401.10 firmware from fastboot it will upgrade already, but I still see the same build number
and a prompt to update, though from getvar I am running 1.54.401.10.
Second, Can I accept the OTA update with SuperCID? Will it not break the phone?
Thanks

Did you read this part of that thread?
This covers returning an unbranded, European One M8_UL to stock, running 1.54.401.5. It does NOT cover returning carrier-branded handsets back to stock, nor other country unbranded variants - only the EU model
Obviously not or you ignored it. OK
2nd...Also it states during the rebootRUU process to make sure you flash twice as it usually shows a fail first time round. This isn't a request. Usually you'll get a flush fail first time
I can only assume the phone is working but you are taking a gamble not reading through the OP's instructions. I would try again but this time flash the FW twice to make sure you have success.

@grentuu
Yes.
1. Adb reboot bootloader
2. Fastboot oem rebootRUU
3, After the htc logo displays on the phone, ran:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
I waited till it finished, didnt see any errors, then ran it again the second time as i read somewhere its best to run it again.
Then fastboot reboot.
I knew it was for the european htc but i asked in the thread and was told it would work if i am supercid. I also flashed the firmware twice.
I tried again and same thing.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I tried again, no good.
As I have said I have been following the steps n the link properly.
I also know it is intended for european htc but i thought soff and supercid will allow my device to run any firmware
thus I can make it look like a stock European WWE version

Hi all,
I need some help guys... I purchased a used HTC One X (Quadcore) a couple of days back from an online seller. The phone is perfect but seems the seller rooted the phone. I found out about it by following a guide that said to open a terminal emulator and type "su". It didn't ask me for any password and immediately turned the command prompt to #.
Now the phone has been lagging more than normal and I'm not receiving the OTA update as well. I decided to take it to the store as its still under warranty. So I need someone to tell me what to do and how do I reset it to stock firmware or unroot?
I lost contact with the seller and do not have the option to ask him to reset it for me or get any information about the root.
The phone was purchased from the United Arab Emirates.
Thanks for helping.

boot in to bootloader by pressing vol down + power button at the same time
then once you get to the bootloader check at the top of screen whether its written Locked or Unlocked
If its unlocked then your phone is rooted
if its rooted then you need to flash the ruu of stock ROM to and install stock recovery to unroot
and use some commands..
check this thread:

Thanks
Thanks Vivek for the reply. But is there a certain stock rom I should be using?

Don't know if you sorted this but you need to be using your current version number (find this in.. settings > about > software information)
Unlocked bootloader doesn't ALWAYS mean you're rooted, it just means your bootloader was unlocked... (which is a helpful thing really...when wanting to flash sexy stuff)...
The RUU (Rom Update Utility) Should match or be higher than your version number and must be for your CID or it will fail. FOR example... 1.29.401.9
The 1.29 start bit should match as should the red inbetween bit. This is what you're looking for.
Software info
Ok, all i see when i visit the software information is the following.
Android Version
4.0.4
HTC Sense Version
4.1
Software Number
HTC One maXimus V3.0
HTC SDK API level
4.23
HTC Extension version
HTCExtension_403_1_G_20
Kernel version
2.6.39.4-g090b42e
[email protected] #1
Baseband version
2.1204.135.20
Build number
2.17.401.2 CL89015 release-keys
Browser version
WebKit/534.30
All i want is to return the phone to its factory state. I couldn't get the official OTA update coz of this stupid "maXimus" thing...
Well I guess if you have a nandroid back up you should've made, that would save you tonnes of problems otherwise you need to find what version you were on relock your bootloader and apply the ruu, not sure if you need stock recovery on.

I believe you know about going to fastboot mode and use fastboot command, type
fastboot getvar version-main
it will show your stock software version no. then you can look for the right RUU.
The latest official stock rom for the UAE is 1.29.415.11 and Radio 1.1204.105.14 android 4.0.3(i think), and the ruu flasher is
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_ARA_1.29.415.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260742_signed.exe (dont forget to relock b-l )
check the main version from fastboot by the method ckpv5 mentioned and if its not 1.29.415.11 and the radio showing on bootloader is 1.1204.105.14
that means ur phone was not middle east version OR
the original user flashed the wrong update from another country, and you will have to reflash that corresponding stock version.
Remember if you feel scammed at any point(online sellers or shops) you can contact the Consumer Protection Structure in the UAE , call 999 or the directory and ask for the number, they deal with scammers.

[Q] Change CID from 1111111 back to HTC_044

Hey team
I think I may have the opposite issue to most people here, I have just received my phone back from getting repaired (By the Parallel Import company here in New Zealand) and it has been returned to me with S-Off and CID: 1111111.
I would prefer to have a stock phone in order to get OTA updates (I know, the opposite of what most uses of XDA want and am happy to trade phone for a stock hand set)
I was given this TUT to restore my hand set back to HTC_044 (or maybe even VODAP022 the New Zealand Vodafone CID) but am receiving the error "waiting on device", I have tried unplugging and replugging it back in a number of times and have booted in fast boot to check it does change to "fast-boot usb" but am still getting "waiting for device".
I was wondering if anyone could tell me is the below method correct or is there a better way to get my phone back to a stock "off the shelf" device?
Thanks in Advance (easy on the Troll rage if possible)
Cheers
Firstly, you need to install ADB tools,
DOWNLOAD FOR OTHER PLATFORMS -> SDK Tools Only -> Windows
Download the one of package and install ADB SDK Tools.
If you don’t have JAVA SE Development Kit, you also need to install it in order to install ADB Tools. Please note that, you have to install JAVA SE Development Kit not just JAVA SE with 32bit (x86).
You will have instruction while you install ADB Tools any way.
Once you install ADB tools, open my computer -> c:\ -> Program Files(x86) -> Android
Right click on SDK manager and run SDK Manager.exe with Administration access.
Click Android SDK Platform-tools and press Install packages.
If the install is finished, you can see the new folder called platform-tools on Android folder.
Press SHIFT Key + right click on Platform-tools folder and click something say “Command”. Hot key is (W)
If you done correctly, commend window will open.
Please connect the phone with debugging mode (From the phone, go to setting -> Development -> select USB Debugging).
Now, type the following commend on the commend window.
fastboot oem writecid HTC_044
If you have done correctly, your super CID is now HTC_044,
044 is the Asian CID so you can update the phone with the latest of Asian firmware.
You can also choose HTC_001 or any other number. These numbers are represent all regions.

Worked like a charm!!
Just run Check CID from the market and it has come up with HTC_044
Have also just run the "check for updates" but still not getting 4.0.4 or Jelly bean but that may be a separate issue. Now that I am back to Stock.
<--- "thank" Clicked!
Cheers, your a phone saver!!
I know my original issue is now resolved but I was informed once the CID was returned to normal the phone would be "stock" again but I am still not receiving OTA updates.
Is there more to resetting the phone to stock?
As in do I need to get the phone turned to "S-Off" or do I need to flash an RUU (I believe however the phone has not been "rooted")
Phone info as it stands now:
CID: HTC__044
Software number: 1.28.708.10
Android: 4.0.3
Baseband 1.1204.103.14
Would giving you any of the following help?
Kernel version,Build Number
P.S. Please tell me my only mistake before was'nt just that I was using "HTC_044" and you have two under scores "HTC__044"
Thanks for your help again
What I can see here is your software version no. is not for HTC__044.
HTC__044's software version no. is *.**.707.*
I like to suggest that you flash the 2.17.707.3 RUU (since you changed your CID to HTC__044) and you should receive JB OTA update.
There is no JB OTA yet for x.xx.708.x

Your right, my software before I sent the phone to the Tech team was "2.17.707.3"
What region is 708?
Will flashing a 707 RUU return me to a stock handset or will I need to flash a new update manually each time?
Does that also mean my phone has been rooted? would not have thought an authorised HTC repair agent would have done that (that is if I believe that the phone was sent to an authorised agent, cant be sure with a Parallel importer)

No, your phone is not rooted. It just that you have a very lucky phone with s-off and cid:111111. 708 is Asia_HK
With your CID:111111, you can flash any RUU that you want, something that S-On device cannot do
Once you flash 707 RUU, you will receive update for 707, no need to manually flash each time. The system will accept your device as 707
I am telling you, man. In a few weeks time you'll change your mind about having an S-OFF phone. Don't trade it! I also have an S-OFF HTC One X and I didn't care much for that thing but after a few weeks of reading, I came to realize how lucky I am to have this phone. The things you can do with S-OFF!

I have had a search tho and every thing I have found including the http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_One_X seems to say that I need to be "unlocked" to flash a RUU. Can you point me in the right direction of flashing without unlocking?

You read it wrong mate
To flash a RUU, you need a "locked" or "relocked" bootloader.
I believe your device is not rooted so your bootloader is "locked"
What you need to do is, reboot to fastboot (press power +volume down for a few second, you'll be in hboot, press power once, you'll be in fastboot mode).
Connect your device to PC then double click the RUU, follow the the updater instruction, you are good to go
I would like to remind you guys as i have mentioned a billion times before (and no one believed me) that OTA updates and sent by IMEI ONLY ONLY ONLY.
No matter what your phone's CID/software number/colour/origin, if HTC didn't include your IMEI on the OTA update list you will never ever receive it. In case you really need the update, you can contact HTC with your IMEI. (they will most likely ask you to send it back to a service centre)
whether the OTA update will work on not, THAT depends on your CID.

If that is correct my IMIE number should already be in there as my phone was originally HTC__044 and 707. As per my opening post I'm just trying to get it back to that.
Or are you saying that makeing those three details match still won't do the trick?

Sorry for that probably useless question:
If I can change my CID like its written in the first post, I can do the JB Firmware update from here?
I am waiting since JB is out, checking this every day, hoping that my CID will appear and it just works like that?

Help upgrading firmware

I have a tmobile htc one m8 with twrp recovery s-off and htc dev unlocked im currently running the latest viperone with 4.4.3 as the base but i havent updated my firmware to 4.4.3 so i am experiencing long boot times and such so how would i go about upgrading the firmware
It's pretty straight forward, download this and put it in your adb dir, http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23578570567718638
make sure the phone has usb debuggin enabled in the developer options.
then run these commands (if you aren't fimiliar with adb then google it)
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
adb reboot-bootloader (verify your cid is 11111111, that way you wont have to edit a txt file in the firmware zip since they usually dont have the tmo cid in them)
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip name.of.file.you.downloaded.zip (If it says FAIL at the end then run this again)
fastboot reboot
Then if you wanna check,
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot getvar all
tmobile hasnt released 4.43 yet
You don't need the TMO release. All GSM m8's are the same exact device. You can run international firmware without any issue. My setup is a UK rom with a ATT radio, with the sprint harmon kardon libs. No sense on waiting for the tmo release if you have soff, just flash the firmware update and go over to the main m8 forum and download any rom you want.
thanks; myself personally, I am going to wait for my 14 day "return" period to end, just to make sure of everything, and, by then, I assume the TMO update will be released, and I will flash it then, and then start having "fun" with this awesum phone:good: got it 3 days ago, so I'm still getting used to it after a LG Flex..
@op would you able to upgrade your firmware ?

I have to agree. I'm using the dev firmware. Until T-Mobile firmware becomes available.
S-off is the way to go.
how do i upgrade firmware with s-on? firewater doesn't work.
im back on stock rom with stock recovery. phone downloads update then asks if i want to update, goes into recovery, starts to update & then stops 30 seconds in and goes to a screen that shows a phone with a red triangle & exclamation mark in the middle
do i need to lock my bootloader?
EDIT: im on 4.4.2. trying to update to stock 4.4.3

There is quite a discussion about this in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776785. You can start around page 8 to get to the point 4.4.3 was released.

Can you downgrade an update?

I have an s off unlocked phone. Any of you know if its possible to downgrade to an older update? The new us update is affecting my calls and signal so i need to go back.
Just run the old RUU exe and you'll be set.

Depends. If his handset is s-on he can't "just" run the old ruu. With s-on you can't downgrade the bootloader to a lower version.
So it's either doable with s-off or look for the OS via a backup and try to restore that and run it on the new firmware.

So in the meantime i reflashed twrp and recovery and restored a backup.
But in the conclusion all i want now is to revert to full stock (i have no backup of that). Can i do that with s-off and bootloader re-locked? the reason that i want to do that is to recieve further updates ota. The reason i did all this to my phone was because the 4g was working when it wanted (not only 4g but mobile data in general). Now i'm thinking of reversing to stock, maybe future updates will solve this or to send the phone back for waranty.
So i need to flash stock, can you guide me from this point to achieve that?
My current software is 1.95.401.3, the phone was unlocked but not developer edition.Cid is HTC__34.
Help me what to do next and i will do one by one until i succeed (sry for my bad english)
@pocutzz you need SuperCID. In download mode, connect phone to pc and open a command window on your computer, type out "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" (I advice you copy and paste this but without the quotation marks), and then you will gain SuperCID. With this, you will be able to install any firmware/RUU regardless of CID.
@ OP, if you want to downgrade, since you are S-OFF there is no need to relock bootloader. As long as your have SuperCID you can downgrade to any firmware just like that. Download RUU and run it.

if you RUU you should still be able to receive OTA afterwards but don't count on me for that one as I've never restored back to stock before. You can search for previous HTC 10 RUUs on google, I recommend not going too far back and just going on the update before the 1.95 one (1.90 I think). Not every version has an RUU so if you can't find an RUU you want, try and find an older version.

i re-locked before i run sunshine for s-off. i will try to do that in a few minutes
i have done superCID, but before i try to flas the ruu, wanted to ask you, after that what remains? like s-off,root,twrp,custom recovery?
Okey so i did the superCID, in download mode it shows me the 1111111 but on the phone when i run CID Getter still says HTC__034 (that is how it suppose to show?), i copied from here like you said.Downloaded the ruu.exe from htc website, and when it runs it resets my phone to download mode, the bar goes instantly to 100% and the ruu installer says the 155 error, incorect version i think.
What do i do next?
Maybe MID problem?i've read something about it for HTC M8 i have mid 2PS620000. Maybe the ruu.exe on htc website is for US and i need EU?
Later edit: So i put the global variant with .401. in the sd card and it started to flash, i will se what is what...

i have done superCID, but before i try to flas the ruu, wanted to ask you, after that what remains? like s-off,root,twrp,custom recovery?
Okey so i did the superCID, in download mode it shows me the 1111111 but on the phone when i run CID Getter still says HTC__034 (that is how it suppose to show?), i copied from here like you said.Downloaded the ruu.exe from htc website, and when it runs it resets my phone to download mode, the bar goes instantly to 100% and the ruu installer says the 155 error, incorect version i think.

S-OFF will never be wiped, if you have relocked then it will remain relocked state. Everything else is wiped and restored to stock including recovery, system, data, Internal Storage MIGHT BE WIPED I am not so sure.
if it shows SuperCID in download mode it should be fine. All you needed to do to get it was to execute that command line I posted before.

How to upgrade TW version to Nouget/Android 7?

Hi guys,
I'm here looking for answers. Any ideas how to upgrade HTC 10 (taiwanese version, not locked to any carrier) to Nouget/Android 7? There hasn't been any OTA updates for a long time. I have stock rom (non-root, non unlocked). Is there any official release whatsoever?
I tried following the manual instructions here http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-10/news/
It reboots to download mode, but update software gets error when trying to 'update signature' after a few seconds only. Basically gives me 'ERROR [155]: UNKNOWN ERROR'.
Phone gets stuck with the blue bar fully loaded. Nothing works until I restart the phone using power + volume down for about 20 seconds.
This takes me to 'htc download mode' which tells me that file /mnt/media_rw/ext_sd/2PS6IMG.zip File NOT FOUND. i then just hit 'reboot' to reboot to normal OS.
Ideas please?
Hi,
I've the same device as you and I converted it to US unlocked and I'm enjoying Nougat since that. Did you changed CID and MID to USA?
Please follow these three steps and you'll be enjoying Nougat quickly: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70275461&postcount=2

Thanks mate. That seems like a load of trouble, considering I'll have to root, get a license for sunshine, etc. I wanted to stay as legit as possible with this phone. In any case, thanks for the reply. BTW, does Nougat SERIOUSLY improve battery life? What are your observations?
Is there any indication that HTC will or won't support Android 7/Nougat for taiwanese phones? It's pretty hypocritical that they still haven't IMO (may be unrelated, but for me the main reason I bought the HTC 10, while I was in Taiwan, was to support Taiwan).
It's confirmed that Nougat will be available for Asian and European editions of HTC 10 but when is the question. Another reason to change to USA rom are others updates. It's almost sure that Android 7.1 or future releases will be available to USA devices early than the rest of the world.
It's not necessary to root indeed my device is not rooted and the bootloader is an official one.
About the update I can say that battery last a little more (4-5%) but the main difference is the performance of the smartphone. It feels more responsive opening apps and the double tap back button to change between apps is very nice in terms of multitasking. Also night mode is a good enhancement and the ability to reply using notifications too. It feels like a modern OS unlike Marshmallow that for me is old for 2016 devices. Just my opinion.

Thanks mate. Much appreciated. However, you do need to root in order to use sunshine right? So it's a no go for me for now... I've emailed HTC to ask about intentions and dates. Let's hope they reply.
In my case Sunshine applied a temporal root technique that allowed the s-off procedure without rooting my device definitively.
You can download the APK and test it. The app will try to apply a temporal root technique and it'll ask for money only if the program can s-off your device without any type of problems.

Or you can stay in MM but unlock bootloader and install TWRP and then flash Viper10 Nougat rom.. i have the same TW edition as yours and where i am, its difficult to get your hands on Sunshine license..... For me N has been a godsend in terms of battery life...with MM i could max out maybe 3hr of screen on time before the battery went flat....now i am crossing 4+hrs and thats with heavy gaming with games like Gear.Club and MKX
Hi, got my HTC 10 TW version yesterday, setup everything within 6 hours.
It's actually not that hard as you though, getting sunshine licence is faster that I would expected.
If you live in Taiwan now I don't know if the payment method works or not, but you can always consider taobao since they sell sunshine licence as well.
Converting CID MID then you can easily use RUU to make your 10 a US unlocked version with Nougat, I don't really know what's the difference since I'm still using MM for now,(can't live without xposed)
Anyway if you have questions you can PM me for detail.
I forgot to said that the installation of app updates is much quickly than with MM. Nougat is far better than MM in every aspect. I'm glad I transformed this TW device to US edition.

In line with your query with the Nougat update, unfortunately we do not have a time frame when it will be available in Australia. As of now the Nougat update is being rolled out in US and it is being done by batches to prevent network congestion. Rest assured once it becomes available in Australia you will be able to receive it on your HTC 10.

Hey Jadraker can you give me step by step of what to do? I bit the bullet, did s-off using sunshine.
I then did the following in download mode:
Code:
htc_fastboot oem writecid HTC__001
htc_fastboot oem writemid 2PS620000
I then tried to install RUU_PERFUME_WL_N70_SENSE80GP_MR_NA_Gen_Unlock_2.28.617.8.exe, but I get same problem as I did before. It fails with same error.
Phone won't boot and get stuck in boot loop - i.e shows white HTC logo, then reboots, and reboots and reboots.... Fortunately, if I hold power, it somehow decides to boot into OS. I can go back into download mode, restore my MID and CID and phone boots like normal (no more bootloop). What am I doing wrong? The '3 steps' appear to be missing additional steps
Code:
1. Get S-Off from sunshine. <-- done
2. Change CID and MID to US unlocked. <-- done
3. Run RUU.exe while still on bootloader mode. <-- fail
edit: I also tried following cid and MID, but RUU still fails
Code:
htc_fastboot oem writecid BS_US001
htc_fastboot oem writemid 2PS65000
edit2: i also tried the firmware "RUU_PERFUME_WL_M60_SENSE80GP_NA_Gen_Unlock_1.80.617.1" on BS_US001 & 2PS65000, but RUU installation still fails :/
edit3: i also tried changing CID to 11111111. RUU installation still fails.

Your trying to flash us unlocked but you have changed cid to european WWE. also when you tryed super cid you still have the wrong mid to flash us unlocked. You need to find WWE ruu which there is one around but its unofficial or change mid to the correct one and flash us unlocked ruu
Hi,
Cid and MID are wrong. Also I used command fastboot not htc_fastboot. CID is BS_US001 and Mid 2PS650000 (with those zeroes) . There's a command you can execute to check if mid and Cid were changed successfully. Then run again RUU in download mode.
Also you're using an old Nougat release. Try this one: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-10/news/
Finally don't use super Cid unless you don't care about ota.

It started out alright. it actually started doing stuff, then BAM! failed again! (same error 155)
but I rebooted and tried again, BAM, it installed just fine. Now it's all good and fully working! thanks for your help :good:
Glad you solved the problem. You do it good as Nougat was delayed for European and Asian variants due to bugs found in Nougat OTA.
At least for me Nougat is working without problems.
