can we flash 4.2 kernels in 4.3 by changing their ramdisk or by any other way... i want to flash kernel in my 4.3... plz help
Nah You can't, because system in 4.3 is not same like system 4.2 so You can't flash 4.2 Kernel in 4.3 ROM
Android 4.3 update got many changes and the kernel is incompatible, flashing 4.2 kernel while running 4.3 update result in your phone showing Xperia logo then freezing a cyan screen. Any specific reason of wanting 4.2 kernel with 4.3 update? Because this doesn't make any sense at all...
I'm guessing cause there's no custom kernels for 4.3...

Hi all,
My phone is rooted and has an unlocked bootloader, but I tried to install this rom today:
MooDeD ICS ROM v.4.0 / xUltimate v7.0 Engine [ROM]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717
But I forgot to flash the new boot.img (new kernel), wich I had to install using flashtool. Now I can't normally boot my Arc (I can understand why), but I also can't get into CWM recovery! So do I know have to flash the new kernel wich I had to do before.. or can I get Android 2.3.4 somehow back on my Arc? And if I flash the new kernel for ICS can I flash it back to the kernel for Gingerbread afterwarts? The new kernel is based on ICS beta btw.
I hope you can help me
Everything is working very well since I flashed the ICS kernel I am now running Mooded ICS rom v30.5 without any problems (few bugs in the rom, but overcomable)

I figured that flashing ICS kernel and install the rom again worked when I had flashed the kernel I could get back into recovery again Thanks for your reply
does the DoomLord Kernel work on a ICS rom? Or does it has to be the ICS kernell by DoomLord?! on other words on ICS Roms the kernel has also to be based on ICS?
That's correct as far as I know has to be ics

I don't recommend doomlord because it's a bit buggy, but there are plenty of usefull kernells. To make ICS work you will need ICS kernell

Hey guyz got a very noobish question, didnt find any answer any other place...so im posting my question here...
Could i just flash any custom 4.1 roms like miui, aokp, cm10 and im on stock ics, rooted witch franco's kernal..? is it possible or i must have stock jelly bean inorder to flash these roms..?
Provided you have unlocked your bootloader. You can flash custom jelly bean ROMs from stock ICS..
I have a Sony Ericsson Neo V. I flashed Polish Blood Aosp ROM from Stock Sony ICS without any issues.
You can flash any version you want. It makes no difference what you currently run. Just wipe like normal and flash your day sired ROM.
As long as you wipe cache and data everything fine!

You do not need stock jellybean in order to flash a custom 4.1 rom like miui, aokp or cm10. All you have to do is pick a rom you like, make a backup, wipe the stock ics on your phone, flash the custom 4.1 rom/gapps of your choice, then restore your apps.

Flash stock based kernel with recovery using fastboot and then you can flash the custom 4.1 rom from recovery.

Flash stock .96. For rooting flash .211 kernel, and then run Doomlords script and then install CWM before flashing the .96 kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417672
For .96 kernel and .211 kernel Google is your friend.
My advise is for stock 4.1.2.
God luck!
May I ask why you want to go back to Jellybean? Have you tried Mekoo? I have flashed Jelly bean more than I can count (I can only count to ten ) after trying KitKat, but after I tried Mokee I have been satisfied.
I tried mokee, cm11, beanstalk. They are really good... In mokee is a little bit to much in chineese... But in all Roms i Miss the FM radio... So i think i will go back
I don't notice any Chinese in Mokee beside in TWRP, but with Google that's manageable. Running the latest 4.4.2 version. Will install 4.4.3 Nightly today. I don't use the FM cause my favorite channel is only on DAB.
Hi there!!
I'm about to unlock my phone bootloader, and i wanna know some things about kernels:
Can i "downgrade" the kernel. For example from a KitKat kernel to Stock (Jelly Bean 4.1) Kernel?
Can i use a KitKat Kernel in a Jelly Bean Rom?
If Kernel have CWM recovery, it still working even if ROM stop working?
I know that in Linux you can update to the lastest kernel in same distro and don't matters, but Android is "special"...
Now i've CWM for locked bootloader and it is installed in ROM instead in Kernel, then if ROM is damaged CWM can stop working. I think if is included in Kernel then don't matters what happen in ROM, but I want to be sure.
Thanks!!
I'm not really sure about question 1 & 2.
Answer for question 3:
Yes, the recovery should work even the rom is messed up.
Thats when bootloop happen .

1- Each rom has a specific kernel so if you want to install a kitkat kernel you can't install a JB rom so if you want to downgrade you can only downgrade the version of the kernel !!!
2-As I mentioned above you can't
3-Yes because the kernel is not damaged in your case so CWM will be working with no issues !!!
Thanks!!!, for now i'm still using a JB kernel with JB Rom. Waiting for a full working port of xLoud

If You are going to unlock Your bootloader in future, do remember to backup Your TA partition.
