I don't know if the freegee app in the play store will do that or not but dude I got an unlock code on ebay for $1.48. Just search Unlock Code E980 in the main ebay search and you'll get a code in 5 minutes flat. :good:

I'm serious. $1.50 is not gonna phase me

Nor i, however i cant help but cringe any time someone gives away their IMEI. seeing as im used to the CDMA side of things where if someone has your esn its only a few commands to clone your device, report it lost/stolen and then you are out a phone.

If you have ever had an att account that was left in good standing or is currently in good standing you can request unlock codes from them it takes a weeks or two to get the code but that is the only free method to get a phone unlocked

I'm not a hacker or anything, just want to help the guy. Seems to me like a teen who could use the help and I like doing random acts of kindness.
I recently lost my S3. Bought a optimus g pro from a coworker with a broken screen and the home button didn't work for 30. Replaced them myself last weekend for another 30 and fell in love with the phone. Was wondering about unlocking my phone and stumbled across this post and said why not for 1.50...

currently there are two ways to get it without att giving it to you.
1. you will find here and you will need CWM bootloader installed and can run restore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760895
2. you can do a factory reset and flash it with your pc with the lgflashtool.

It is a nice gesture. Not everyone has a credit card, and being stuck without a phone because it is carrier locked would be a bummer.

Theoretically you could if the person just bought another phone and swapped out esn without reporting the phone lost or stolen but that is highly unlikely.
The best thing to do for the person who lost the phone and your karma is to take the phone to a Verizon store.
With as new as that phone is they have probably reported it let alone as was said prior low to no morales to even consider using it yourself I would call verizon and inquire on the esn

Verizon blacklists the esn and you can't activate it on the network. Even *228 just redirects you to customer service instead of activating

Going to a Verizon store and turning it over isn't going to lead to them just refurbishing it and selling it off to someone else. I've been the person on the other side of this story and the store actually contacted me through email to let me know they had my phone. So...if you want to help out the person that lost that expensive piece of tech, head over to a store.
If karma is a *****, then how do you know the person who lost it, actually stole it from someone else? What goes around, comes around.

Best way would be to go through your carrier. Tell them that you are going on a trip overseas and you need it unlocked. If that does not work you could try the many websites on line. I have used them in the past and have had no issues however; it will cost you around 25$ or more.

even if you did, most of the pre-installed widgets will not work with Nova properly since they are made for TouchWiz. You can get deformity, crashing, not working on landscape, not working on portrait etc. it's best you don't use most of the none (?)x1 widget on Nova or any other theme apps

Wrong.
Even if the IMEI got wiped they could still unlock it and use it with another network i'm prrtty sure.
Plus T-Mobile doesn't wipe IMEIs.

I had my GS2 stolen and got stuck with an LG Optimus T for about 2 months until I got my S3. I was at this resort with a swimming pool and I put my phone inside of what I thought was a pretty nice security locker, it had a pin that you put in to unlock and lock it. So I typed in my code locked the locker and went for a quick swim with my friends and some chicks and when I came back my locker was broken, my wallet was on the floor (they stole my money), and my phone was gone. I don't think I've ever felt so robbed in my life, it's almost like I had a baby and someone kidnapped it. Then about a month later I was hanging out with my friends and some guy left his phone at the table and my friend tried to steal it but I took it from him and gave it back to the guy, it was a HTC G2 or something like that. Ever since I keep 3 programs on my phone at all times: Cerberus, Lookout, and Where's my droid.

[Q] Hard bricked? How to fix?

Hi I am new to android I just bought this s3 I747M from best buy on Telus on a 3 year contract on august. I rooted it and added a few custom roms successfully. When I tried to root my first phone (s3 current one) it got soft bricked. I easily fixed it. But then I after a few months the 4.1 update barely came out. Then I heard of the multi-view thing. I really wanted it knowing that it was probably coming out for my version on February 2013 and flash the insert coin revolution on my phone. It suddenly shut down and wouldn't open nothing, not download mode, not recovery mode, not nothing. so I decided to go search how to fix it and the only solution I know is the usb jig thing, because it's a hard brick (I thought that there was only a soft brick). Is there any solution on how to fix it without the usb jig? If you know please reply s3 is the best phone I have ever held. And the warranty is void. And when I plug it in the computer is shows up as QHSUSB_DLOAD.

Unless you are extremely technically proficient and have access to the necessary jtag hardware, your best bet is to use a jtag service. There are a few out there but I know these guys have a good reputation: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/
$60 and a couple weeks without your phone may be cheaper than the time you'd spend trying to figure it out. It'd be nice if there was an easy way to do it but at the moment there isn't.
Hard bricking sucks, best of luck to you.
I agree with above post, if you dont have a technial background then best take it to a jtag dealer.

Actually since it was on a 3 year contrect telus is giving it to samsung for 2-3 weeks to fix. In the mean time they will lend me a backup phone to borrow until they return it. And the best thing is that it is free of charge.

If Samsung finds out that the phone was tampered with, they will not warranty it. They will charge you to fix it.
Your only hope is that they try to boot it and they replace the M/B without finding out you flashed it.

i am not sure. but they dont ask too many questions when ya take them in either tho lol. in my experience if they dont see superuser they dont care lol
Almost all (I understand there are a select few, like myself) repair people only look for Superuser and if they don't see it then they don't really dig any deeper. I have a customer who comes into the store all the time and works with metal and other things like that so his speakers are always messed up and he has been refused service because his phone was rooted. Obviously if I was there I wouldn't care but now when he comes in he just hides the applications (Superuser, Titanium Backup, etc..) and makes the phone look "normal". Just in case I am not there, which happens often.

In my experience, half the time if you just get to talking with a good rep, and they see some sort of effort to return it to stock, they are pretty cool. Generally the repair people, like Epic, know rooting happens and have there's done as well. Just be cool with them.

This^ All the people (Past and Present) know about rooting due to me and another guy that works there. So chances are they have heard about it, just be cool with them.

Its not that its the problem, you can just delete and edit stuff with it rooted and it used to be against policy.
