Hello Fellas,
My HOX decided to say farewell, but i dont wanna let it go so easily.
What happened exactly :
1. HOX in the pocket of my track pants, when i suddenly feel a strange heat on my thigh.
2. Grabbed the HOX to check whats going on, it's black as dead, but is insane hot
3. My thought was : damn you phone, did you accidentialy press yourself in my pocket to draw all power with screen on? you're going to be charged again
4. Trying to charge phone, nothing is happening (no red charging light)
5. Trying to start phone, nothing is happening
6. Tryping to vol-down start phone, nothing is happening
7. Connectiong via Usb, nothing is happening, also no power floating via usb
8. Tell somebody to call me to check if by some inzane chance display AND power-button AND usb port are broken => he calls me and
it rings on his side, NOT on my side, after basic ring duration mailbox replying
So now after my battery life constantly decreased over the last year my first thought is a broken battery. I already ordered a new one, but until its arrival i've thought to throw this case in here for some differential diagnosis, because i cant explain the inzane heat. Is it possible that some other part went boom?
Regards
P.S. i checked the common FAQ and used the search but there are no much information about the detailed death of a battery
Decreased battery life can be explained with battery's life span but I think we can't say the exact reason. Dead battery can damage other parts of phone or a damaged part can use more battery.

My defy is barely 2 months old, i am running CM7.1 since it was released and its quite smooth with no problems till now.
But recently i went to a remote place (i made another post somewhere) and switched SIM cards, i switched back SIM again now. Since then, my defy randomly dies sometimes while holding it and most times while in my pocket. My battery percent looks fine (i wiped it just in case).
This happened to me several times, i suspected the battery was loose, so at the beginning i reinserted my battery 2-3 times and it would start again. But now even after reinserting the battery it refuses to turn on, i usually need to connect it to a charger (or USB) and after the LED light turns on, i can switch it back on, disconnect it and use it again.. until it dies again randomly.
I tried inserting a piece of paper as padding to prevent the battery from moving, but didnt help much. When i shake it a bit, it dies too, so it might be a loose battery or some hardware problem, but the reason im baffled is why i cant turn it on again without connecting it to a charger, and also why it dies randomly when i leave it alone and didnt even touch it. Also, i never dropped it even once or mishandle it at all to make the battery be loose, when i insert tha battery, it still snaps/click into place just like when it was new.
ANy help suggestions will be appreciated. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to provide a detailed account.
I found an almost similar problem but no answer here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109429
Firstly, check if your setVsel settings is all ok and not too low down specially the voltages settings. If you're not using SetVsel, then check your 2nd-ini in system - overclock settings, see if it enable and check those individual settings which might be too low that caused the phone under power/voltage and triggered self shut down.
Another option to narrow down your issue is trying another battery. Buy or borrow from a friend. If the case of random shut down still occur, then it might be hardware issue in your Defy mainboard. BUT.. I would flash it to another rom to make 100% sure before sending it back to the shop.
Thanks a lot for the reply, im not sure if its an overclock or vsel issue because it even dies sometime while booting up if i move it around, so im guessing battery or mainboard issue?? Ill have to check with another battery first then... hoping its not a mainboard issue coz the nearest service centre is miles away from where i live
Somehow my HTC One X (tegra 3) phone must have bricked itself overnight. It will not turn on and when I connect the charger lead the light does not come on.
Since the phone is still under warranty I take it to Phones 4u, the guy there reckons that it is a battery fault (which makes sense to me, given the circumstances). Anyway that was all last week, today I get a phone call from P4U saying that it's going to cost me £125 to repair it because it is not under warranty. They are claiming that the phone has been opened before and the VOID sticker is damaged as is a load of the shielding tape inside the phone. This came as quite a shock to me since I bought the phone "new" from them last year and it has never been opened in the time that I have had it.
My theory is that the phone has a fault that is going to cost a lot to repair so Phones4U (Would it have been sent to HTC?) have either claimed that the phone has been damaged or they have damaged it so they can thieve some money from me.
Anyway, back to the point, has anyone else had this issue if so does anyone know how to resolve it (or if that's feasible)?

hi there! first of all i want to apologize as my english is not perfect.
now the story, i have this problem for 3 months now. nothing helps to permanently fix this. it started one day, my battery runned out while i was surfing internet, phone switched off as it does normally. i did put in on charger (original) but no charging light came on, i checked it after few hours but no light where there, phone was dead! i didnt worry to much and just left it there over night to charge, but in the morning i found that red light is still not on, not charged and completely dead. i did every method metioned on any forum- holding buttons, pulling sim out combination nothing helped!!!! my HOX is rooted with custom rom and latest HBOOT version. i were so dissapointed that my warranty is void. then i decided to take phone apart, take battery out and measure its voltage with multimeter, so i did that and battery was 3.18v. so i cut USB lead and charged battery up to around 3.8v that was wery tricky to do as HOX's battery have odd connector, after that i did put every thing together and phone turned ON, i did charge it normally to 100% which measures 4.2v in APP. calibrated battery by deleting batterystats.bin file. next day battery went flat, and exactly same thing happened again. it must be something wrong happening when phone swithing off by it self, it does not switching off completely that causing it not reacting to butttons. SO i think if i put in freezer for 10-15min it will kill the battery and cut power to phones PCB (eq = battery pull) because any button combo is not = battery pool. so i wrapped it in cling film to prevent condinsation and kept phone in freezer for 15min. do not attack me with commets like "cold temp killing LI-ion battery for ever" i dont care i dont want to hear any of these stuff i did what knowing that, cuz there is no real solution to this problem! it is sounds like crazy! i know! im am russian so im used to do crazy stuff ) after i took it from freezer my HOX felt like ice.. hooked up charger and WOALIA!!! red light started to blink = battery to low to swith on. after half an hour red light came on persistant and my phone swithed ON without problems. after few weeks i replaced battery with other one but no joy! still same thing, i used to do this for months because sometimes i wasnt able monitor battery and turn phone off manually before it reaches 1% charge. I did not experienced any battery life shortening (at least i didnt spot any serious life drops) I SUSPECT THIS IS SOFTWARE RELATED PROBLEM, SO PLEASE IF ANY DEVELOPER OR ANY ONE WHO IS KNOWS WHAT EXACTLY CAN CAUSE THIS, PLEASE LOOK AT THIS CASE. IT MIGHT BE A SOLUTION OTHER THAN MINE!! cuz in the end it sux putting ur phone to freezer
NOW - solution! kind off..
when u did my methot if it worked for you of coure.. you need APP from Playstore - LLAMA location profiles. in LLAMA app you can create action based on event. se lets make event BATTERY under x% and create action for that - POWER OFF PHONE! set delay for 2min so u can stop ongoing event once u on charger and ur battery is less set %. I did set it for 5% and 2 min delay just to be on safe side. once battery reaches 5% charge action is created after 2 min, and phone turns off. dont try to power it ON!!! if u did by accident, just turn it off once it booted! dont ask me for help using LLAMA it is not complicated as it looks, play aroud with charged battery, experiment. u can add additional actions like play sound + screen on+ vibrate+ power off. if that helped u press thanks button as this text took me whole hour to type
AND PLEASE SOMEONE SORT THIS! AS HTC ONE X' PCB NEED TO BE CUT FROM POWER TO RESET AND START CHARGING. I DO THAT BY DEPLEATING BATTERY CHARGE WHRE PCB CUTS OFF POWER. SUB-ZERO TEMP DOES THAT TO BATTERY, BUT WE NEED REAL SOLUTION!!

I am pleased that I haven't had to do this! I argued with Phones4U a little more and they have agreed to replace the device, I think that the repair job was far too expensive for them to justify doing it. Hopefully will have a shiny new One X (or One X+ if they have no stock) by the end of today!

could you please tell me how did you charge the battery?
My one X surfers from this, if it runs down to zero, it refuses to start, I've found leaving it on charge a few days and booting into the bootloader then doing a restart from there, boots the phone back up. Not great, but it works actually doing it now, it's been dead a few months, and I need a backup phone as I'm about to try cm10.2,4.3 on my note2,so the hox is getting charged.
I always suspected clockwork mod as I have a similar issue, with my note2, if my note runs to zero, the charger light doesn't show, but Does charge as once booted light returns and percent shows. Also my note won't boot with the power button alone, I have to bootloader then restart. That why I thought it was a clockwork issue, bit the above poster was on stock.
Anyhow is there any updates to this thread or anyone know of a solution?
i've sent the device to htc maintenance and they told me that i have to replace the board for 270$ !
POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once did it for me!!!!!! It works
Hey Guys!!!!!!!! Freezer for 10-15mins? Not for me thanks. For days my phone won't charge or power on. So i went for the hard reset/reboot method ( POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once) did it for me. When you reach the Reset/Reboot mode be very careful not to choose Factory Reset mode because you will erase everything out of your phone. Choose the reboot mode and the phone should restart. And when my phone started again it was 80% charged. Just can't work out why it went dead. But hey it's alive and kicking now. Remember ( POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once) did it for me!!!!!! It works
Hi,
Had the elephone p8000 for a couple of weeks now and have been very happy with it - updated without problems OTA to the latest stock image, rooted to change the lock screen - but made no other changes to the phone.
Yesterday the battery had run down to approximately 3% - I plugged in to a charger and after about 15 minutes the phone was reporting the battery as 79% full. Which didn't seem correct!
I then used the phone for approximately 10 minutes, after which, without any warning, it suddenly died.
It now won't charge, turn on, or be recognised by a PC.
I've tried charging up overnight - but it still doesn't turn on.
I think whats happened is that the phone has got itself confused over the battery level and then fully discharged the battery to absolute 0 - as it didn't realise it needed to preserve a residual amount of charge.
Anybody got any ideas on how I can rescue this? I've tried all combinations of power, volume +/-.
Would a new battery solve the issue as a last resort?
It's a real pity, as up to then the phone had been great.
Thanks
I have had this type of problem with my old nexus 4 a few times ,phone gone dead no display or charging light, unable to charge using different chargers I had to disconnect battery for a short amount of time
Reconnected battery and everything was charging as expected and phone would power up????? not sure how easy it is to disconnect on P8000 have not had a look at mine
yet
Thanks - I think this maybe the solution. Problem is - having looked at a couple of videos, taking the battery out looks reasonably straightforward - but one of the screws (bottom right hand corner) has a tiny elephone sticker covering it - I assume this is an anti tamper device and will invalidate my warranty (with gearbest).
Not sure if to just give it a go - or spend the cash (£8ish) and send back to gearbest and run the risk of them kicking up problems and refusing to repair. Decisions!
Thanks
Try this:
Press power for around 20s. Release.
Plug charger.
Wait 5minutes.
Press power for around 5s. Release.

Hello, I have the same phone and the same problem, i already tried to change for the stock rom, but nothing! My phone doesn't charge or power on, I don't know what else I can do!
Not been able to get it to respond in any way... Have ordered a new battery.
Tried suggestion above but no change...
If you can and it's under warranty I'd try and send back to wherever you got it from.
As a matter of interest did yours show any strange behaviour around charging before it died?
All very annoying!
Thanks
Bricked P8000
How much the battery cost? You will change the battery (by yourself)?
I ordered the battery from Ali express £15 / $22 U.S.
Comes from China so might be a while to arrive.
I was going to change the battery myself - There are some videos online and it looks reasonably straightforward.
However - there is always the risk that the battery wasn't the problem / that I break a ribbon cable / fry the motherboard etc... or something else bad happens - but I thought that (for me) it was worth the risk for the money - this may not be the case for everyone.
Once I get the battery I will repost and let people know if it worked or not...
hello, I have similar problem. Can you tell me did the battery replacement solve the problem?
Hi,
Waited 60 days for the battery to arrive from China and it didn't! Gave up until I saw someone here (in the UK) selling them on ebay so bought one, fitted it to the phone (need to take about 12 screws out and remove the metal plate) and.....
It works! I've reflashed the phone to the Cyanogenmod ROM the guys on this forum have been working on (and it's great work) and am using it as my daily phone without any major issues - I'd even managed to not break the fingerprint scanner (as this needs to be removed to take the battery out).
So yes - a new battery solved my problem - I can't guarantee it will solve yours however - and the battery wasn't that cheap (£20 GBP) but I've got a fully working phone again.
To reiterate the problem I had - the phone suddenly charged really quickly to a high percentage, it then just suddenly died when still showing a reasonable amount of power (probably because the battery %age was not being reported correctly) and wouldn't react in any way. By fitting a new battery after this my phone came back to life in exactly the same state as it had been before. But I can't guarantee it will work for everyone
Good Luck!
Hi everyone!
If you think you can help me but you don't want to read the whole thing, there is a one line summary at the end ! I tried to be as clear and concise as possible, without forgetting anything. Thanks a lot in advance to those who will take a minute for me, really <3 . Also, excuse me if my english isn't perfect, it's not my native language.
Full version:
I'm desperate, I spent the day on a Redmi 8 Pro (1906G7G) that I want to repair at all costs for a loved one, basically to change the broken screen (step that went very well) but now I realize that it doesn't charge and there is a repetitive "knock" (even turned off, probably related to electricity I guess?).
I come to ask for help to diagnose it because I don't know where to start but I really want to fix it... Here is in chronological order everything I could observe and do on this phone:
Spoiler
1. Very occasionally, before there was any other problem, it could go into bootloop: you just had to press the different volume and power buttons until it unlocked, without any problem persisting afterwards. I think this is common on this model.
2. The loved one in question sat on it and the screen broke along its entire length, rendering the touch screen unusable and displaying colorful scratches: so I wanted to turn it off to open it while waiting to receive the screen I bought, but it went into bootloop. At first, I couldn't turn it off with the volume / power buttons as described before, so I counted on it emptying itself by bootlooping (it stayed like that for a few days) but as it was interminable. Because it wasn't emptying the battery fast enough, I went back and got it to turn off with the same technique, and this time it worked. At that point, I saw the screen and bootloop incident as a coincidence, since it happened few times before the screen has been broken.
3. I took the phone apart to replace the screen and I don't think I damaged anything: I really feel like I was both patient and careful, touching as little as possible as in the guides I found (I looked to a lot of guides to avoid mistakes). At the end, I turned on the phone (no vibration, I don't know if it's normal), it was still 5% and the screen was working fine.
4. I tried to charge it: no light, no charging icon, on or off, nothing happens at all EXCEPT (and this doesn't reassure me), a kind of "knock" that repeats itself every second or so (it's not the speakers, it sounds "electric"). I plugged the phone to my PC, and I got a notification (on the PC) saying that the USB lacked power to charge the device. I didn't have time to try to see the amperage and voltage info on AIDA64, the phone turned of before due to lack of battery.
Note: I have no idea if the phone started having charging problems due to the screen breaking or due to its repair, because nobody tried to charge it between these two events.
Summary:
A Redmi Note 8 PRO (1906G7G) no longer charges after it's screen has been broken, or a successful screen repair (I don't know, there was no attempt to charge it between the break and the repair) and produces a regular "knock" when plugged in (even when turned off).
Infinite thanks to anyone who will take a little time to help me, really. <3
Have a great weekend everyone !
