Hey guys, I am very new to this and don't know much about android development.
I saw a review where Moto E was faster and smoother than Galaxy s5
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P9vDAY0U0A
This was because Moto E's rom is almost running stock where as galaxy s5 is running touchwiz.
Is it possible to make a rom where it is almost close to stock? I just feel like Im paying my money for the hardware, then the software is so bad that it just doesnt feel like that monster device its supposed to be.
Im running Hanspampel's rom for SM600, and it is running smooth as it has ever been. But still, Im just curious if it is possible to make a rom for samsung devices so that it is almost identical to vanilla android?

Hello there peeps, I'm an X Note I user, really enjoyed the experience until my phone got broke heh! And then I bought an S3, my current phone. Im currently running CM10 on my S3, runs good, but because of the close sourcing of the Exynos processor, its still not THAT smooth as it should be. But my taste always is a bigger screen, so I want to get back a Note II. I highly DOUBT that Im ever gonna use Touchwiz....
So the question is, will the Note II get a hands on from Teamhacksung? And we'll get an official support from CM10?
Besides, Samsung has finally decided to give devs some documentation of its Exynos4 source !
Replies would be appreciated as I'm considering to buy the Note in few days, still not so sure! Hope you can help
The current CM team isn't touching any future exynos devices besides the S3 and the Tab if im correct. But if someone new want to come in and start developing for the Note 2 than it would be possible, which we already have a few members here working on CM10 for the note 2 and made some progress. CM10 in the works
Don't expect any official support for CM tho on the Note2..
Running a AOSP build just goes against everything the Note 2 was meant for

Then why did we have a CM10 support for the Note 1 ? Same idea, the whole idea about the Note was with the pen. And yet, the Note I got an official CM10. I dont care about the pen features, Im after a gorgeous 5.5 inch screen actually...and run AOSP rom on it. I can't bare touchwiz.
Well who cares?

Those who have tried AOSP roms and figured out that it beats Samsung's Touchwiz ROMS ? Easily and clearly. Forget about the feature Sammy plug in which are awesome for intance. But when it comes to performance and UI ? The Vanilla pure Android experience is the best one out there....

because it uses a older processor than the new Note 2 and GS3 (Exynos 4210) we use Exynos 4412, the GS2 even have problems with CM and other aosp roms. (Didn't some of your roms the menu button didnt work?)
Also the US version of the Note 1 came with a snapdragon processor..
Samsung just don't want to release the right docs for the Exynos line. you can build a AOSP rom for the note 2 it just would be a a$$ to get everything fully working with out the sources you need.
Reb0rn and simone are both working on an unofficial CM10 for the note 2, and I believe Entropy said if they get it working and all their gerrit **** is OK there's no reason for it not to be made official with them as the maintainers.
I may be wrong about that last bit though, it's best to just go read that thread.
I believe cm10 is a downgrade from the stock software. Multitasking for example separates this phone from the rest. Never thought that I'll say a phone out of the box better suits my needs than cm10, aokp, or paranoid. Sorry

I never comment without trying something. Well these CM stuffs are half baked thingy, which I obviously don't want.

Hello there,
I have never rooted any phone and need some advice, I have a galaxy note 2 n7100, at 4.1.2 Jelly bean. The main reason I want to root is so I can flash a custom rom (Cyanogemod 10.1 in this case) because I feel touchwizz lags (coming from iOS, getting into settings and moving around the phone feels sluggish).
So my questions are these:
1) How do I root it?
2) How do I install CyanogemMod
3) For those who have CyanogeMod, how is it compared to stock samsung?
All I want is the phone to be lag free (and by lag I mean the fps at 60 all the time).
Thanks for your time.
Android will never be as smooth as ios, but the trade off is that Android truly multi tasks and ios doesn't. That's why it's always going to be slightly less smooth than an iPhone. It's also why we have a quad processor and they are still ok running a dual core.
In a nutshell - ios it's designed to run AN APP, while Android is designed to run APPS.
CM ain't much better on this beast phone, what helps though is using a third party launcher such as nova or apex and going into development options and turning off all the transition animations.

Just buy Nova launcher plus from play store it's very smooth and customizable compared to touchwiz and it supports spen also..

There are a ton of guides on here for rooting. And plenty of ROMs to choose from. I personally like Jelly Beans rom. I havent tried out CM though, because they technically arent supporting Exynos phones.
hey i have been having some wifi problems with CM 10.1.2 Aka Android 4.2.2 Jelly BEAN. anywz i have decided to go back to STOCK CUSTOM TOUCHWIZ 4.1.2 and it has been smooth, stable no problems but i like CM on 4.2.2, since Samsung is realising 4.3 for Galaxy S3 next month and 4.4 is already here but 4.2.2 is the most stable and since Sammy will not give out 4.2.2 for Galaxy S3 i had to try with CYANOGENMOD, AOKP, PARANOID, CARBON ROMS to get the feel of 4.2.2 on my S3 which i will never for touchwiz (FU SAMMY, SO MAD THAT I WANNA GO AND PUNTCH SOME SAMSUNG OFFICIALS)
the point is, idont wanna lose TOUCHWIZ and latest stable 4.2.2 with CM so how i can dual boot this two roms, i have read and searched and the only thing that came up was for the old HTC phones like Desires HD, S, Z, EVOS, INCREDIBLES, INSPIRE, MYtouch, Nexus One, Sensation, Thunderbolt and HTC'S stuck on 2.3, or ice cream sandwich, the International Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 right here on XDA, the international Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100, I9100G, the SGS 2 EPIC 4G sprint variant if am correct and some Moto droids plus
wats the big difference or hype that the international can dual boot or can do better than the American Variants???????????????????
anyone finds how to dual boot on the Galaxy S3 I747 PLEASE REPLY ASAP, am sure there's some file, answer or something hidden on this XDA forums that can help me, its just too hard to dig up hundreds of pages just to find a software or programme or app that can do this
any suggestion, idea, solution or ANYTHING is allowed i just need to dual boot, i cant KEEP BACKING UP, RESTORING ROMS WHILE IT TAKES TOO MUCH TIME AND SPACE, MONEY, ITS TOO STRESSFUL, Sometimes it might or might not work cuz of a MD5 file mismatch which makes me wanna hate android more
so help anyway if you can, reply, we can solve it who knows
THIS IS SAMSUNG FAULT THAT AM STUCK ON 4.1.2 ON TOUCHWIZ cuz i cant upgrade and have to USE CM 10.1.2 TO USE 4.2.2 and guess what 4.3 is out and 4.4 will be out sooner than later so arghhhhhhhhhhh it makes wanna get an IPHONE 5 and use their IOS 7 which almost looks identical to gingerbread-ICS-windows PHONE FEEL and its apple its smooth like a baby butt and simple enough 50-60 year old gramma to use it
get yur $h!t TOGETHER Samsung the S3 is just a year old, update it or am done, NEXUS 5, S5, NOTE 3, ONE or even the LUMIA 1020 with the odd couple at the back 42 megs
sorry for the rant but i need to dual boot customs roms
my mom has this phone, and it's painfully laggy and slow compared to newer device such as iphones, s3 and s4 that most of her friends own.
she ask me if i can do something to improve her phone.
while i know using a pure aosp rom wont make it faster than current high end phones, but there should be some noticeable improvement.
some time ago, xperia s receive quite some buzz for being in the aosp project.
i did not follow the news, but from what i expect, i hope for a pure aosp build or rom to run flawlessly on it.
after some digging in google, so it appear xperia s was kicked out of the project? not sure what that means.
but some kind of thing called 'binaries' was relased. its just 1.5MB, certainly not a rom that i can flash
http://developer.sonymobile.com/kno...droid-open-source-project-for-xperia-devices/
and checking for CM support, shock to see that xperia s was abandoned since cm9, what the heck? this is flagship phone from sony,
same generation as the s3 and htc one x
so is there no stable good aosp rom? all the aosp project is just for nothing? how is the 1.5MB binary helpful?
Sony is always praised for being developer friendly, but their phone dont even have CM support.
samsung being criticized, and yet even the first gen galaxy S1 has official CM11 nightly (that kitkat yo)
So what is going on here?
There are stable 4.2.2 and 4.3.1 versions

That official AOSP project never amounted to anything for the end user really.

That's an 4.3 AOSP ROM from letama. It's completely stable and will work like a charm for the "general" mother type. Some games don't work and 1080p recording is not good. Other than that, it runs faster than stock S3, S4.
Or this if you wanna run CM.

Same bugs as above.

Bro! See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2555243
Hey guys,
I bought one of these tabs and the specs are pretty good but i hate UX. Its enough for me to return it.
I'd rather not flash to CyanogenMod and instead use a regualr plain ole KitKat or Lollipop AOSP stock Rom.
Does such a beast exist? I've looked everywhere.
Cheers.... Shane
"Stock" is a really confusing term to use. Stock for this device means TouchWiz. I think you mean something like GPE (Google Play Edition) or Nexus type ROM, without any manufacturer customization. Some may consider this "stock Google" in a sense. But as very few actual devices have come with such a thing out of the box, its hard for me to consider this "stock".
Even calling CM and the like "AOSP" is a stretch. CM and many other "AOSP" ROMs have so many customizations at this point, its hard to see any relation to the original Android OS as it comes from Google.
Ok, rant over.
I haven't seen anything like that (Nexus or GPE ROM for this device), unfortunately. I'd say just bite it and flash either CM11 or Slimkat, as they are IMO much less laggy and bloated then TouchWiz.
Have you guys tried Lollipop yet? I have (Nexus) and OMG it's actually quite a few steps backward and definitely not ready for prime-time. In fact, I heard it's even worse on Tablets compared to Phones.
I'm GLAD this tablet is only on 4.4.2 -- I would love a 4.4.4 upgrade, but that's it. I do not want Lollipop to hit the Galaxy Tab Pro series until at least Android v5.1 or 5.2 so that some of the horrible design decisions have been reversed, or at least adjusted.
I agree that Lollipop is not ready for prime time. I installed from the factory images on both a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 10 -- and the rolled back to KitKat. Biggest issue for me was unavailability of Xposed Framework.
At this point I'm happy to stay with this ROM plus my Xposed tweaks:

Just get the Google Now Launcher. I dislike the Touchwiz laggy UI as well. When I intalled GNL the lag went away + I still had the extra Samsung features!
