did you wipe & flash the kernel via fastboot if not do it and you are done
If you did wipe & flashed the boot.img try reflashing by using the following steps
1) Boot your device in recovery mode. You should now see the recovery menu
2) Use the volume up/down keys to select "apply update from ADB," then press power to select it
3) open the folder where your boot.img and adb are storred, then press SHIFT button and the right-click mouse button and choose “Open command prompt here”
typ adb sideload <filename>.zip (for example: adb sideload update.zip)
The zip package will begin installing. When it's done, select "reboot system now."

If you had any experience, i would laugh the crap outta me xD
But you download it as a zip right? Don't and really don't extract it, place it on you sdcard. Do all the wipes, and then flash the zip.
If you have a nandroid backup, restore the backup first to get in the system and copy the zip to the sdcard.
But if you haven't, you can do this:
Go in recovery --> mounts amd storage --> you need to see "unmount /system" and "unmount /sdcard/" (if you see "mount" instead of "unmount", scroll to it and push power button once. Then connect to pc. Install fastboot (which you needed to root your phone), then place the zip folder in the same directory as the fastboot drivers. Then open cmd (i recommend you to do Shift+Right Click in the folder, then select "Run command prompt". You don't need to cd then xD) and first do this for a little check: adb devices. When it shows your device (number + recovery), type this: adb push ROMNAME.zip /sdcard/ROMNAME.zip (replace ROMNAME.zip with the exact name of the zip, i recommend to give the zip an easy name). Then wait for it to complete, and flash it!
When you don't have a nandroid backup and not enough space free on sd, you can do it in a micro-sd reader. If you don't have one, buy one. If you don't want to, you're f*ucked.
Hope this helped

ok, I'm assuming you mean ARHD 31.2. you also need to downlaod the boot.img below the rom. create a folder on your desktop and name it "boot". now extract the files from the downloaded boot rar into the boot folder on your desktop and go onto the next step.
from twrp recovery press "Wipe" then "advanced wipe". check ALL of the checkboxes from dalvik to system, there should be six ticks. now swipe to execute the wipe. when it has finished wiping press back to go back to the main twrp screen.
now press "mount" and then "mount usb storage", copy the HD rom to your sdcard. when it has copied press the back key. now press install and scroll to the rom you have just copied and install it.
when that has finished reboot into bootloader. when in bootloader make sure you can see "fastboot usb" on your phone screen.
now open the folder you created on your desktop and double click the file that relates to your PC operating system,I'm assuming you are windows so you will want the "install-boot-windows.bat" follow the onscreen instructions and it will flash the boot .img. now reboot your phone

Hit the Thanks button if it worked, bros.

Please read the how to install again, bro. It has been edited and should work fine for everyone now. Sorry for the inconvenience anyways.
Does this in any way allow us to install custom ROMS? As far as I know the Zenfone 5 does not have a custom ROM, since the bootloader is locked, right?
There is something called Asus unlock app in ww 17 firmware. I am guessing it has something to do with unlocking the bootloader. I am not on ww 17, so i cannot vouch for it.
I also saw a ROM called Sphinx for zenfone on a website.

It's pretty confusing that twrp can't install zips. Well this twrp is basically for system and data backup.
There's a CWM, with that you can install zip files only by adb sideload. But backing up isn't working there.
I can upload the CWM for Zenfone 5 if you guys want me to

as I said, you have to use adb sideload to install zip with CWM. This is the only way you can flash zips.
SD card won't mount for some reason.

Come on, bro. It's because CWM isn't mounting the sd card, but when you push the zip by adb sideload method, the CWM doesn't have to mount sd card and that's why it works.
Try it. It worked for me. :fingers-crossed:
Perfectly working bro. just replaced the recovery to the latest twrp 2.7.0
Hi!
I lend my HTC one X to my friend that said that he would boost my phone up to KitKat 4.4.4. But he returned it completely blank. I am pretty sure he erased the whole system.
When I start the device it stops at the HTC logo. I am able to enter the bootloader and it says "Unlocked". When I enter "Recovery" the device loads a grey screen with a couple of options. The main title is "ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.8".
When I connect my phone to the PC it shows the device ( H: ).
Please help, how do I restore my phone? I don't care if it is rooted or not. I just want it to work again.
Kind regards,
Alexander

I am not so good at this. Did I not have to have made a backup in nandroid before things got out of hand? The storage seems to be totally deleted. How do I put in an OS again?

aaah, okey.
How do I transfer nandroid to my phone? I'm unable to connect my phone to my PC, it makes the sound that the PC found my phone but it does not pop up anymore. Tried to search on google and when I looked in sdcard/clockworkmod/ the folder is empty.
Do you have a guide on how to use this? I do not know if it is possible but i am afraid that my friend has erased all data.

Thank you for a good guide but I got stuck on 'Go to cwm recovery and mount your internal storage'
What I have available in the main menu (IMG_1) is 'mounts and storage'. When I select that I have the options from IMG_2 and IMG_3. If i Choose mount USB storage the device shows IMG_4 but nothing happens.
Am I doing it wrong? The only thing that happens is when I connect my device to the computer, it makes the sound as if it was found.
Try flashing this recovery. http://d-h.st/nmh
Download the image and put it in the onexroot folder.
In fastboot mode, type fastboot flash recovery <name-of-recovery/file>.img
Did this because the cwm mount never worked for me too :/

It looks so simply but did you take a look to your rom zip? open with a zip explorer like winzip in /META-INF/com/google/android and here you must find this file

well, what version of twrp do you use? try first with oficcial 3.0.2.0, bootloader unlocked? check usb debbugging and allow oem unlock in developer options, sometimes neccessary mount system or enable MTP in recovery

Doesn't work either, this is really weird to me, i've been flashing for a few years now, and never encountered this issue before.
-also note that i'm not amazing at this

Probably a bad flashing and you are needing repari partitions, for that I recommend start from beginning again:
- flash miui rom for fastboot (unpack zip rom in your adb folder for better performance, connect device to pc into mode fastboot, be sure device be recogniced typing; fastboot devices then right click mouse and execute like admin over "flash all".
- then to install rom you can flash again twrp via fastboot typing any place adb folder and placing file recovery.img this folder; fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- then go to recovery with hardware keys and flash supersu v.2.79

two things; I assume that trying to flash from extSD, if yes with file explorer of recovery copy to internal memory, maybe an issue to reading extSD, also you can to install a newer version of recovery 3.0.3.2 works sometimes for me and last here you have a reading page about install fastboot on mac (nightmare) http://www.stechguide.com/setup-adb-and-fastboot-on-mac-easy-step-by-step-guide/

I was so stubborn that I decided to install Windows Bootcamp on my mac
