so...i don't understand from reading here is there a free way to unlock the dash?
i saw here alot of pepole that upgrade there dash to wm6 and i'm sure they will need also to unlock there dash to simfree.
i know there is a lot of website that can sim unlock my dash but they want 20-40$ for it and i don't want to pay them i want to know if there is a way today to unlock the dash for free

You do not need to sim unlock to install different roms, and there is currently no free sim unlocker for us. If you need to sim unlock and cannot pay, try the cell provider and see if they will provide it for you.
well just got the sim unlock code in my E-MAIL from T-Mobile (USA) and to be honest i have no idea what to do with it... lol as a matter of fact i dont even know what sim unlocking does (newbie) lol. would someone please tell me what sim unlocking does and tell me step by step on how to unlock my phone with this code... thanks to anyone who helps me. much respect. the e-mail said i need an international sim card... is that true? do i really need one of thoes? because i have a few sim cards just laying around but they aint international sim cards. lol

You do not need an international sim card. You do need a sim card from another carrier. When you put the sim card from another carrier in the phone, it will ask you for a code. Enter the code from tmobile. This will unlock your phone.
Currently, your phone will only work with tmobile network. An unlock phone can be use with any GSM carrier. This is useful when you travel internationally. You can buy a prepaid sim card and use your phone to make calls.
I have recently bought an Xperia Play from a fellow XDAer through marketplace and the phone was locked to UK Virgin Mobile therefore I purchased an unlock code online so I can use my own gsm card. Problem is, after 2 and a bit more weeks when I received my unlock code it didn't work..After research I realised that my phone was Hard Locked due to many incorrect unlocking attempts. Anyone that can help me from here? How can I remove this Hard Lock? is the phone useless to me now?

How many times did you enter the unlock code? are you 100% sure the code was genuine? where did you get the code from?
I'm not sure if a sim unlock could help?
And just to confirm, the Play you bought from me was working fine but was just locked to Virgin Mobile so you ordered an unlock code to unlock it for all networks?

I'd love to know too. My gf got that and I'm in the same situation. Let me know if you find anything. I saw that some HTC phones could be unlocked using an app because the code was stored on the phone in a way that it could be de-encrypted. Don't know if there's something similar for Sony
Im about to buy a Note ll from someone that brought it from Germany, I'm not sure it's SIM FREE, my question is if it's possible to unlock the sim lock networks and make it sim free to from also at Israel. Is there any tutorial in XDA that show those things or it's illegal?
Sorry if it's a stupid question i just have no idea in those issues :/

why can't you ask the person you're buying from if phone is carrier locked or not? and i don't think on xda you can find a thread about how to carrier unlock your phone for that there are many websites that would provide you with unlock codes for a fee.Google it,also if it's sim locked you would need to go which carrier was it locked to,i don't know if in germany carrier logo are there on smartphones.
