Most stable AOSP Rom - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I'm currently on Sinless GPe and I was just wondering if there's a AOSP ROM that can actually be used as a daily driver. I know it's a bit early but there's no harm in asking

I've been running the SlimKat for a while now, and the latest weekly is very stable. I've had no issues whatsoever.

I've been using cyanogen for over a week now and it's awesome

Really ? Because I got heavy WiFi bugs when using cm....
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

My Wi-Fi occasionally becomes unresponsive. The only other issue I have is the speakerphone and the party on the other end can't hear me (acts as if it's muted) other than those 2 minute annoyances it's really stable for a nightly that's only been around for a week or so
Sent from my One M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

WiFi issues (Only for some) and no sound on speakerphone does not constitute instability. Those are called bugs. Bugs and being unstable are two totally different things. They're all stable as far as I know. They all have bugs though. Even stock Sense ROMs and GE Edition ROMs have bugs too.

I know I phrased it a bit badly... I meant stable in using it as a daily driver

This will likely be closed but I'll say it anyways.... Regardless of whatever rom someone tells you is good for them you may not have the same experience. Just make a nandroid backup of your current setup and flash some roms for yourself.

How "stable" a ROM is depends how you individually use your phone. Also what constitutes "stable" and "daily driver" is completely subjective.
Any discussion of favorite ROM, best ROM, most stable, best performance, etc. are discouraged here. Its insulting to the developers who do a lot of work to bring us these ROMs for free, to say one is "better" than another.

All ics roms for vivow have some issues. The question is do you want sense or aosp?
UKB is probably the best sense rom out right now. Sense 4, android 4.0.3. Smooth, fast, excellent battery. Camera fcs a lot for some.
For aosp, you have Kangdemnation or an older version of PA. PA is moving on to JB, but I think version 1.9.5 is ics.
Most of the problems are camera related, but many have been fixed. BT is another area of concern/ongoing development. Sound issues, too.
Search through the threads for these issues before you ask a question. Most of these threads are quite large.

If you don't feel the need for Ice Cream Sandwich, I use Cyanogenmod 7.2 stable for my "old reliable" It's much faster than stock, better battery life, and everything works 100% for me. Just my 2 cents.
I'm pretty much a rookie myself, and wanted the most stable ics rom I could get. The UKB looked great, but I decided to try tazz's ic rom first. It sounds like it should be stable too. I just flashed it earlier today, so haven't had much time with it yet, but so far it looks great. It sucks as much as everyone in that thread promised.
In my experience, Tazz's ROM is probably the number one out there right now. Granted, you're stuck with Sense but there are some devs out there stripping Sense away from this ROM and another one. Everything works out of the box (including camera which is huge for me), but like I mentioned, you're stuck with Sense and I've personally moved to Paranoid Android 1.5a which has CM9 as a base. Works pretty great, although my ffc pictures often show up corrupt/glitchy/garbled. Now to make more posts so I can have the privilege of commenting about this bug...

If u r on cdma then use UKB X, if on gsm use IC Tazz. Both the roms are very gud. I faced bootloop in gsm with UKB X and V.
otherwise ukb is better.
So I guess this shows my noobness, I'm wanting to root my wife's incredible 2 and not sure if she has cdma or gsm. How do I know/find out?
What's your carrier
Is it Verizon? If it is then its cdma.

Stock GB.
My wife is about as rookie as they get. I put her on IC-Tazz.
My 2 cents.

LOL yeah, that was an entertaining and informative thread!
I just stuck to the Aeroevan's CM9 07/12 build with v12 kernel (pretty outdated, but I don't use the phone anymore) and gave it to my mother. So far, she's loving it to the point where she's completely oblivious to the world when she's using an app.
I woild definitely recommend Aero's CM9 build if you want a speedy rom with mostly everything working (720p recording doesn't work sadly)
But if you want an extremely stable ROM, then go for Tazz/Mac's IC Tazz ROM and have fun with the suckiness of the ROM. XD
I woukd also recommend Nit's UKB just because it's a treat and its packed with lots of Sense 4.0 goodies.

Apparently I've gone flashing-crazy (I blame upgrading to TB Pro  ) and have also tried UKB V and can now recommend it too as rookie-safe. The only problem is I'm having so much fun trying out new roms, I'm now finding myself searching for other roms to play with...

What is the most stable version of AOKP?

Is there a version of AOKP that is comparable to the stability of CM10.0.0? I am looking for a very stable version.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
All devices react differently to different ROMs. Nobody can answer this for you because they don't own you specific device. So your best bet would be to just try each one out and see which one works best for your device.
That's true what was said above. Not to mention how even using different apps can affect of your phone works. But overall, if the ROM your looking into has a lot of negative reviews I would stay away from it.

If you want a more direct answer, the 4.1.2 is quite stable. But yes, without trying them out, you'll never know :good:
The 4.1.2 Milestone build was pretty stable back when I used it, but then again performance varies. Good luck
If you have an AT&T Galaxy SIII definitely go with Task650 AOKP JB 4.2.1 he updates his ROM in a regular basis and he is one of the best developers in XDA

[Q] Questions about ROMs

Hi, i'm using the new version of miui 4.1.2 but the problem is that i have issues with that version, lot of app don't work, games are slow, i can't search in internet 'cause it's slow too... So I want to change for another rom but I don't know which one is good, i'm searching for a rom with jellybean which could be fast and not use a lot of my RAM not like miui.

I'm running mine on ckpv5 myONEv RC9.0 FX+ on top of Maxwen's latest Titanium Kiss kernel.
It may only be 4.0.4 but without a lot of the bloat that comes 'standard' on the One V factory builds, so it does run a lot better.
But there are some, quirks...
Call Volume, at lowest is the loudest, click up one spot, and it's right.
Edit: Just being blind, found the switch for vibration on keypress.
Those are the only glitches, I've found so far, and I've been running it for two weeks, really making sure I put it through it's paces.

[Q] Most Parent Friendly ROM

So my dad has been using his One V for almost a year now. Was stock and unrooted. Slowly it has got slower and slower. Its reached the point where I have to factory reset anyway.
Is there a custom ROM that is more stable and smooth than Stock 4.0.4 and yet gives good battery life? Features irrelevant.
Thanks.

Both are not suitable for everyday work. At present, only CM9 stable, battery friendly and faster than Stockrom. :good:

I'm starting to agree with you know, I've been using Evervolv since about yesterday, and it's been a bit buggy for me now. I'm just hoping it gets more stable.
If you want a stable easy to use rom for your dad, I'd recommend CM9 as recommended by other users.
1ceb0x great work on Evervolv had made it stable now. Try it again with the new kernel.
Since CM10 is abonded I'd say the newest version of Evervolv is really, really great. Android 4.2.2, aosp. everything you want.
Just one "downside. default camera isnt working. Im using camera zoom fx for this and its a great application.

Not really the answer you expected, but still the best one. People's rom requirements are different because we all use devices differently.
Therefore what's best for some users may not be best for you. User opinions have very limited usefulness, and very few users will have even tried and compared all the kitkat roms just for you.
In all this time waiting, you could have made a nandroid backup, and played around with all the ROMs for yourself, from your own opinion of performance and stability from your own experience. This way you find the 'best rom' for your needs, not someone else's... :good:

Performance and stability is also subjective and varies hugely between users, there's no standard...
It still comes down to how the user uses their device. For instance, someone might say a ROM is laggy, but they're running high end games which the phone was never designed for, and is not really even a ROM issue. Others' definition of stable can include the occasional reboot / freeze, though this could be unacceptable for you. These are just examples, you may believe they're helpful to your choice, but again no user will have exactly the same usage pattern as you, so their experience will have limited usefulness for your setup.
Put another way, how many replies are you expecting in this thread on all the different kitkat ROMs before you are able to decide, assuming they have tried them all and are able to compare objectively? And if you've already tried 3 kitkat ROMs, why do you (still) need additional user experiences of others who use their phones differently to you?
And you can apply this logic to all device / ROM / kernel combinations in the future
