If you want to flash a custom Touchwiz ROM. You can.
You can also flash AOSP-Based ROMs. (CyanogenMOD, AOKP, PACman)
Does every rom needs a different kernel?

Every ROM? No. The kernel I linked to you should only be used if you're going to be flashing a touchwiz ROM.
AOSP ROMS use a different kernel that works with only AOSP-based ROMs.

Does anyone know if there are any? I'm trying to use the mod here as it lists our s4 as compatible. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145133

Hey all,
I was just wondering what the best aosp kernel is for this device? I don't like tw much so I'm running Carbon. Are there any custom kernels that support aosp?
Thanks!

I am using phantom rom too. You might be running an older boot loader or unsupported kernel. Try re flashing the rom. It's a fantastic rom.

IMHO the stock kernel is the best and most stable, that means no problems
Seems like no one knows
