[Q] Illegal access detected - Paranoid Android Q&A

Hi,
I'm a long time Paranoid Android user and I'm really happy with it.
But i have one problem. I want to play 'school idol festival' (can't post links) but it doesn't work with root access. Every time i want to start the game it just says: 'Illegal access detected. Game cannot start'
I know this game is not for devices with root access (it says so in the description) but is there a way to solve this? I already tried to turn off Superuser in the settings but it didn't work. So i hope you guys can help me.
Thanks.

I guys just turning of the superuser app doesn't do much since root is still in tact, you've to unroot your device completly.
Also by searching on google for a bit there's no bypass (at least i found nothing).
Another thing is i think that the problem lies with the game and super su, so asking here is not quite right in my opinion.

Try RootCloak from the Xposed Module repository. It hides root, so I suppose it's what you need. I don't understand why you are posting this here, though...

@DeadPhoeni many Japanese games' developers don't allow rooted devices to play those apps for security purposes (avoiding hacks and such) like Puzzles and Dragons. It's not ParanoidAndroid's fault, it's just the developers prohibited rooted devices

newb, a few questions...

I've only just heard about the Ouya, i'm a bit late, I know...
I'm after something to replace my pi for xbmc but I'd also like to have mame, SNES and Amiga games on there too using a real controller.
Would anyone recommend a ROM that allows access to the play store and that also allows use of the controllers or is the stock ROM good enough?
CM11.

If you also want the ouya discovery to get to the ouya store games then don't use CM11,from what i hear it doesn't include the store in any custom firmwre for ouya's,but all the questions can be answered as yes except adding playstore on a stock ouya, and all questions from what i can tell are answered yes for the CM11 firmware or other custom firmwares installed on your ouya.
Personally i'd forget custom rom's and play store unless absolutely necissary,it's hard to get any tuition if you are not savvy tutorials around are lacking full detail explination of every process in laymans terms, and besides you can sideload compatible playstore apps and xbmc without the need for modding so if it were me i'd do as i do here and just have everything barr the playstore and sideload apps that are listed to work with ouya.
This saves time and risk of bricking, unless your adept to a.a challenge where the tutorials only explain half the process in detail and have to scour the net for answers that nobody really responds to questions for. And b.your not bothered about possibly bricking the ouya getting one thing wrong will kill it,unless you are adept to unbricking over fastboot, provided you load fastboot drivers before doing it and allways i mean allways make mure adb is on before flashing anything,it is impossible to recover a well bricked ouya if you don't have both working (adb, fastboot driver installed) without bothyou can't then reflash another recovery if something removes it i use ouyatoolbox 1.0.0.0 to fix missing recovery with adb and fastboot drivers fully recognized in windows xp.

Had got cm11 on it,loads of bugs, glitching screen flicker, force closing the browser in use,bad if logged into a site.I had [email protected] loads of trouble getting back onto ouya firmware glad i did though got an old xbox hdd caddy and usb transfer cable. So i have external hdd but cm11 i couldn'get a hdd as the primary install location,GL to SD app worked free on play store, could then add games to hdd in cm11.For all the bugs i can't be bothered so keeping stock firmware/rooted with emulators etc and media apps,at least it works. :good:
Had to revert back to the CM11 firmware just so i can use a vpn vpnoneclick app does not work as it's loading but not auto configuring,i now use the vpn unlimited (now free) app and it works well extremely fast for free user, nut the problem is on reboot or cold boot it enables the wifi when your on ethernet as if it thinks you have a phone and no ethernet so it's a pain you have to keep un-enabling wifi on every start of the app.
Really angry with the ouya from a vpn perspective as i paid for a year and had 9/10 months elite left on it,next thing vpn unlimited will be paid only, the worst thing with google play store of all things is the lack of paypal payment, without that i don't trust them with my credit card details at all.Otherwise i'd pay for vpn unlimited 1yr outright.

Can't launch SuperSU on Amazon Fire Tv

Hey, just wondering if anyone can help, for the past week I've been trying to fix a problem with my Fire tv and have tried various methods to fix this issue. Basically I use Sloane 5.0.5 r4 ROM on my aftv 2, it comes with super su and the root does work as superuser requests pop up to allow or deny. However super su doesn't appear in apps (the GUI management tool) when installed (tried various versions of supersu from 2.4 to 2.7) and I try to launch it, it just takes me back to the home screen. From googling I can see a few others have a similar problem, some people suggesting kingroot(not keen to use that as it doesn't give me the same options as super su) some suggesting rbox will make an update to sort the problem. Although not something I know is definite. The super su works and it's binaries as suggested earlier but the gui tool is nowhere to be seen. Even tried changing sloanes rom and replacing it with another supersu version but this hasn't worked. Just to add more details im running TWRP recovery also!
Thanks.

It's something Amazon does to Android and SuperSU being a system app. I noticed the same problem with the Play Store. You might be able to launch it while in an alternative launcher and/or using adb shell.
Run a adb shell and fire up this one
pm path eu.chainfire.supersu
Just to check the installation path
Hey rbox! Many thanks for your reply, and well done on your effort with this rom, can't fault it except for this minor issue. Been tearing my hair out trying to figure out exactly why it all looks fine and well but won't launch. I was thinking of trying to install play store using xposed, was looking at a guide online and wondered if it would open through play store. Didn't realise I could use another launcher with your rom though. Do you know if there's others you know that understands amazon devices to come up with a fix, update etc? seems like you're the only one to make a rom so far for the aftv so I'm guessing it'll take time until everyone fully understands amazon devices and apply similar Android based roms. Thanks for your advice.
Here's what the path came back as, I did notice there's two different locations for supersu though.
correct me if i'm wrong but as far as i know the supersu (the one that you just found) is the su binary but the GUI (which is responsible for the grant notification) is here: /system/app/Superuser.apk
I'm not 100% sure about it, so maybe someone could light up the dark
once sloane-5.0.5-rooted_r4 is flasheed can we update SU from play store?
Sure but you don't have to. Just take that one http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Cool thks but i purchased the pro and thought i could update without breaking anything on the fire

My experience is with Firestick.
1) On main Amazon screen, go to the App line and look accros there.
2) Connect Wukong Remote https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wukongtv.wkremote.client.en and you'll see the Apps selection at bottom.
I like to go into Supersu settings and the default to "Grant" and I like to turn off notifications.

Arghhhh. Think I've soft bricked my fire tv or worse! I was re flashing the rom and was cleaning the data before hand, I must of wiped the system and now I'm only seeing the amazon white logo when i turn it on... Tried to install recovery again since I can't even get into recovery but when going through preloader it eventually says error can't find target file. Tried to use fast boot but fire tv isn't connecting to try and install recovery etc that way! You guys got any ideas or have I totally broken the device? ???
Keep calm buddy, als long as the preloader is still working everything is possible. Did you try to Flash TWRP again?

Thank you so much! It saved the day! never will i ever be such a n00b and delete the entire system again. Also big thankyou RBOX for your guide and files to unbrick, they worked a dream. Everything is installed now, hopefully in near future someone manages to get SuperSu opening in the GUI lol im just happy I can actually use my fire tv again though!

Warning sign in notification telling me KingRoot is bad?

Suddenly I get a warning telling me to uninstall king root 4.9.6. I've been running same fulmics 6 for months and I just discovered the warning sign today.
What is this? Is there any potential danger to keeping king root? If I uninstall king root I will loose root privileges, yes?

Fulmics has SuperSu installed as System application, there was no need to install KingRoot..
Also if you have two Root apps (same like SuperSu),then your phone isn't going to have a good time..
So delete KingRoot and stay with SuperSu.
Greetings.
Thx. I used king root to first get root access so I could install fulmics. Iirc I found the king root from a post here on the forum, so I assumed it was safe.
I disabled king root.btw it is fulmics 6.1 I got. It seems all things good now. I feel a little paranoid, as I discovered king root is from China ?
I wonder if I should do complete install from scratch or am I safe as long as king root is not longer active?

The best choice is to uninstall it.Because it has setted it's self as a system application.
But also i think it has an option (in-app) "Uninstall".
In addition if Kingroot is unable to uninstall by using the inapp option then try installing an app from Play store called " System app remover" and delete it from there.
If nothing works then doing a clean re-installation of the ROM would be a great option.
A Tip:Never install an other Root application while you have SuperSU.
Let's take Kingroot for an example, when you have SuperSU and install Kingroot then automatically Kingroot detects that you have an other root application and it set's it's self as system app.
System app remover did the trick. Removed the King Root app. Result is o/c that adaway is no longer working. So I get to play around with SuperSU now. As I am new to SuperSU I am not sure how to get the correct settings. Should I make SuperSU a system app? Or set permanent full root?
Btw, I never had any problems running King Root. It was even a very nice way to charge the phone because King Root made charging go faster.
I've been thinking about the warning sign I got, and could it possible be a generic warning because King Root had root access? Meaning I would get the same warning with other apps with root access?
It seems strange that King Root that is mentioned som many times here on XDA should be crapware. Surely some smart people would have noticed and made posts about it? I am thinking maybe I panic'd and removed King Root prematurely?
Darn it. SuperSU won't run or allow me to set root access to apps. So no TWRP does not work, adaway does not work, root checker confirms I don't have root anymore and to make things worse, SuperSU says I need to upgrade, so I downloaded the latest version as a zip file to install from TWRP but guess what, no more root access. I will try to boot manually into TWRP and install SuperSU. Hopefully that will work.
And reading SuperSU thread it clearly says I must have ROOT prioer to install SuperSU.
Is there are fulmics setting somewhere I have overlooked? Can I set root from within fulmics tweaks?
Well I didn't get the SuperSU working, then I discovered that there was a newer version of KingRoot, v5.0. So for the ease of it I just installed KingRoot v5.0. As of right now, I don't have any warning signs saying Kingroot is bad news.
So unless it is a known fact that kingroot is infected by crap/malware/spyware/whatever I think I just stick to that one for now. I am used to it, I know how to work it and google didn't find any indications kingroot has been compromised . I saw a few posts about earlier version sending IMEI to china, but it seems that was v3xx. v4x and5x seems to be ok.
If this is stupid behavior and I should remove king root let me know and pls add some links or something to back it. I would hate to give a compromised app gateway into my phone but at the same time I think I was in panic mode earlier today and that my reaction was uncalled for.

Then if you are used to Kingroot just uninstall SuperSu(Install the system app remover from Play store ((the first app that appears)).
Because as i mentioned before if you have two Root applications your phone isn't going to have a good time.
(That may be the problem your phone went to Panic Mode)
If you have Kernel Panic mode problems (after unstalling SuperSU) a clean reinstall of the latest version of Fulmics ROM would be great..
PS:I don't know if Kingroot has any type of virus but I'll check if it has anything malicious.
As i checked you said that you lost root access and you took it back with Kingroot right?

Seems I am good after all. Turned out I messed up the fulmics 6.1 badly when trying to get adaway for youtube to work. So now I got fulmics 6.5. Yeah I know it is not the latest but I had slow internet connection and 6.5 was already downloaded but not yet installed so I just picked that and did a swipe, and twrp install of fulmics 6.5.
I did however install king root 5.01 again to get an easy way of getting everything else important installed that requires root.
If I don't see more warnings I think I will be fine. If I do I will take the plunge for superSU and read up on that before making the switch.
If I see those warning signs again I will try not to panic and try to keep calm

Huawei Mediapad M2 A01W Rootin Help

Just bought a demo tablet from work and have had problems trying to get the retail demo app removed 'Liszt'
I have managed to disable the app, however this only works temporarily, as soon as you restart the tablet you have to go through the whole process of disabling again.
I have tried factory reset.
I have tried Kingo Root through a computer, it said it had succeeded however did not install SuperSu so obviously did not root properly. I have tried installing SuperSu through google play store however whenever you go into it it just comes up with 'SU Binary Occupied' so something obviously isn't correct.
I have installed 'System App Remover (ROOT)' an when opening the app it seems to think that it has rooting capabilities however when trying to uninstall Liszt it just says that it has failed.
I am pulling my hair out here trying to get this sorted and every tutorial or online info on this tablet is outdated and has links that just go absolutely nowhere, so please do not just send me to another thread where all the information and files are just non existent as you just cant follow it.
Anyone out there with previous experience in either rooting this tablet or removing 'Liszt' let me know what options I have.
Thanks in advance!

Question Android 13: APKs not from PlayStore now crashes at the opening

Hi
I was on Android 12 and signed in to the beta program 10 days ago.
I've noticed that APKs that were fine on Android 12 are not working anymore on Android 13 Beta.
APKs are crashing at opening.
I thought that may have been an issue related to the beta version of Android but couple of days ago Android 13 stable rolled out (I've signed out from the beta) but those apps are still not working.
I've found older APKs for a couple of apps and one works and one not.
How can I solve this without a factory reset?
Thank you in advance
What are the apps that are crashing? What does a logcat show when the app crashes?
Google introduced restrictions in A13 for side loaded apps. No longer can they use accessibility apis nor can they access notifications etc. Just speculation but if the apps you are using are old they may be crashing because of these changes.

You can bypass those restrictions by going to the app info page of the app and clicking on the 3 dot menu in top right corner.

I don't have any issues with manually installed apks...
Hi, i have the same Problem with every sideloaded App.
There are no 3 dots in the right Corner.
I don't know exactly how to bypass Them
Waiting till the weekend to update, but what APKs are giving the error?

Do those apps need Accessibility and/or Notification Access permissions? If not, then I don't think the 3 dot menu needs to be there as it is only for those specific permissions (or whatever other permissions Google might add to the list in the future).
For example, I have Adaway installed but it doesn't have the 3 dot menu because it doesn't need either of those permissions. The same for App Manager.
I am really confused with this new "session-based install" security.
What are "session-based install" and "non-session-based install"
Play store app install --------- surly "session-based install" 100%.
3rd-party store install --------- is said also to be "session-based install".
Firefox download an apk --------- is said to be "non-session-based install",
But how the firefox different from a 3rd-party store????? a system white list something?
safetynet, selinux, forcing many settings, anti-rollback, non-store app restrictions.........
I enjoyed so much that google throws sht tons of troubles to billions of advanced users, to fight an enemy that may not even exist.
(how many people have their phone bootloader secretly unlocked remotely by a hacker and installed root malware, unknowingly?)
Gives a warning is good eg. bootloader locked warning is great IMO. But force the hands and keep finding ways to screw the advanced users as hard as they can, to get the "everything is under my control" status is the wrong path.
I read the news that malware devs have already found a way to bypass this restriction.
In the end, like many others, It achieved nothing, except giving trouble to advanced users and devs.
A global bypass must be also on the way, especially from China. Millions like 90% of APPs are not store-based in China since the google ban, and people are used to download apk from every companies' websites as we do on Windows PC.

3 APKs from the company I'm working for (not on PlayStore) 2 sideloaded apps, and a LADB signed sideloaded APK
For example you cut and CC cleaner keeps crashing all the time.
Same here. Almost every app not from Play Store keeps closing right on tap to start them.
Tried to sideload them per USB with full rights. Same.
My company apps that didn't come from the play store are opening without a problem
Thats Vers Strange, indeed.
Every sideloaded App, modded or Not does Not work
Thought it was me...this is bs!
What's the next step...start posting logs I assume?
It's not EVERY sideload for me but about 1 in 3 I'd say.
btw...I got an 'install failed' trying to install/flash the viper4android mod not realizing how old it was...now I'm seeing lotsa audio/sound related crap in logcat reader. If I AM 'currupt' somehow, will just a rom re-flash fix a magisk issue or do I need a full wipe?
Tia for any guidance offered!

Me too but looks like is some security thing from Android 13. I really hope that somebody finds a workaround soon or I'll have to switch back to 12

12 won't work right on the 13 bootloader, and you can't downgrade the bootloader.
When I initially tested flashing only the 13 bootloader on my Pixel 6 Pro, while still running Android 12, it booted fine, I unlocked the phone, and all looked normal. But I didn't launch apps, especially Chrome, YouTube, and plenty of other things. If I had, I would have noticed problems that others have had since then. It was since found that certain/many kinds of apps will not work right running on Android 12 when you have the 13 bootloader installed.
I know this above is not what this thread is discussing, but since you mentioned it, I just wanted to point out that if you're on any Pixel 6/Pro/a with Android 13's bootloader flashed, you won't be able to use stock Android 12 on it. You'll be able to flash everything but the bootloader, boot it up, and unlock it, but before long you would discover problems that you wouldn't be able to work around and would effectively make your phone unuseable for many things that we take for granted.
By the way, hopefully you have the 13 bootloader flashed to both slots. Having the 13 bootloader on only one slot is a little dangerous.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot --slot all flash bootloader bootloader.img
