i have a rooted xperia play and have used the adaway ad blocker app for a couple of years with no problems
but suddenly I cannot access fully the amazon (shopping) app or internet version , I can browse amazon etc
but it will not load up any of the images for the products, if I disable ad blocking on adaway it works fine but as soon
as I enable the ad blocking it no longer loads up any of the amazon photos, can anyone out there please help
thanks
I added "*images-amazon*" to the whitelist and they load up again now. (Not got an xperia play myself, but this thread came up in a search before I had a go at a fixing it on my own)
excellent. works a treat. thanks

How do you add things to white list in adaway?
Edit: nevermind, I figured it out. Thanks for your post.

Many thanks for this quick fix! I suspected this was the case(nexus 5), and a quick google brought me to your post. No time wasted due to you.
Thanks this worked. I don't have a Xperia device. I have a Note 3. I searched Google for this issue and this page came up. I've had this problem before and later Adaway hosts updates fixed it, hopefully this fix will be permanent.
Excellent. I had the same problem on my s3. Updating adaway solved it

Hello!
I've been using Instagram on my Kindle Fire running version 6.2 (works great!); however I have a reader on my site that left a comment that Instagram keeps Force Closing upon opening - he's running 6.3.
So...I was wondering if any of you folks might be able to help us out - does Instagram work well with Kindle Fire running firmware 6.3?
Thank you in advance!!
Cheers
Just installed it on mine to test it out for you. Works perfectly for me.

My commenter reports that he's still having the same Force Close issue across all 3 versions of Instagram (1.0 to 1.0.3) as well...ugh. Has anyone been able to circumvent the bug by any chance?
Much appreciated!
still forcing close after sign in. tested in all instagram app versions. now on 1.0.6

Yeah unfortunately a couple of our readers had the same issues. There was one success report by a reader, however, who shared what she did that eventually got Instagram to work. Unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce the success with our other readers.
Pretty much what she did was, she tried enabling Google Play on her Kindle Fire and in the process, she needed to restart the Kindle. After a couple restarts, Instagram magically started working.
I followed instructions on this video (Youtube "How To Install Google Music / Play On Your Kindle Fire!" v=6TcQPFHd9G4) and they provided download links to their apk files. Wish I could remember if I shut the kindle down any other time I tried to get Instagram to work; but after loading these apk files, that may have been the first time I shut it down completely...?
Bets of luck to your readers!

This procedure did not work with our other readers but I hope this works with yours! Looks very non-technical and does seem like a fluke but hey, it worked for our reader, M.
Good luck and please let us know if you get it work somehow!
Cheers
Seems Google says no to ad blockers: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...purging-ad-blocking-apps-from-the-play-store/
Here is the link to F-Droid as the dev of AdAway suggests to use in case anyone wants it: "AdAway was removed from Google Play. I received an email from Google Play that AdAway was removed due to "Violation of section 4.4 of the Developer Distribution Agreement." Thus, it will never be available on Google Play again. Please switch to the open alternative: F-Droid, and install AdAway with F-Droid" http://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=adaway&fdid=org.adaway

I know. I was just posting to give a heads up. I flash a bunch of ROMs, and sometimes do clean installs (mostly dirty nighties), and go to the Play Store to my "ALL" tab to easily download my apps, and AdAway is one of the first ones I grab. Now it won't be found, so now we know why.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't realized that yet. On a related subject, do you know why one of the build in sources for AdAway stopped connecting today? is that possibly something google did as well. I suddenly started noticing full screen ads in some of my apps so I checked AdAway and it says that the ismeh one is not available anymore. It might just be coincidence but that just started today so I thought it was worth mentioning.
I have noticed this as well. I am getting ads as of yesterday. Only 3/4 sources works.

Which source are you using? I'm on 3/4 now, and everything is working correctly. I checked for updates, but it says newest hosts files enabled. Although it did happen once before. The way I fixed it was to FC app, clear cache and data, reboot, and re-download the blocking files (and of course reboot once new files are done downloading, and have been applied).
Like my original post said I was using the built in (default ) sources.
I found the solution through the AdAway issue tracker. https://code.google.com/p/ad-away/issues/detail?id=413&sort=-id
That issue has a comment which points to: http://adaway.sufficientlysecure.org/hosts.txt
which is a copy of the original ismeh host list, once you add that as a source it starts blocking again.

Sorry I read it too fast.
This news made me highly upset. It supports developers, in a forceful way.
I just ran adaway from my TB backup after flashing a rom. Worked perfect. No errors downloading hosts. Ads gone...as much as before anyway.

Yeah they put the host list that had been down back up, in the file itself the header even says "14-03-2013 Back from the dead"
Yeah I second TB. First thing I thought when I read this in the morning. Screw Google doing that. I tether and it keeps chrome on my desktop from showing ads. One of the best options about android being taken away. That sucks. I hope the developers for the apps keeps updating sources. Adaway has been great so far.

Since its open source, somebody is providing updates for the app.
And also I noticed that one of the hosts sources is back online

Anyone found one that works well after the update? No ads on my phone (rom'd Note2) apps but they are all over the place on the 7!

Try, making sure your SuperSU binary is up to date then clear the adaway's data in settings. Launch the app and download and apply the host file. I had to do this step a couple of times but once it updated without stopping/crashing everything has been working.

I noticed if the screen goes off while AdAway is updating the hosts file, it'll hang and the only way to get it up and running again is force stopping and clearing the app's data, but keep the screen on and you should be okay

Both Adblock Plus and AdAway are working fine for me - I use both, since they use entirely different methods of blocking ads. They never conflict for me, and whatever tiny loss of efficiency exists is a terrific trade for NEVER seeing an ad, anywhere.....ever.
They survived a non-OTA 4.4 upgrade and re-rooting for me. I lost wifi manager and the Xposed framework, but nothing else.
Nexus 7 2013 wifi stock rom, rooted, twrp, SuperSU, etc.
Is it in the play store?

I used to see it on my phone but not on my nexus 7
adaway and adblock plus run perfectly on mine.
Just tried installing the latest Google search from Aptoide, however it crashes everytime and keeps on displaying the crash message.
Looks like Google is bringing the new lollipop style to the launcher by updating the Google search app.
Try yourself by installing the Aptoide app and updating the Google search app or getting hold of an apk from somewhere.
See screens hots.

If you are rooted then you can copy across the missing libs which are needed as per the guide below from androidpolice however if you are not rooted then you will have to wait until google release a kitkat compatible version.

Sorry, but I had to close this thread because aptoide and the aptoide app are considered warez by xda. xda takes warez pretty seriously, so we don't even allow troubleshooting or any other kind of support for warez or apps that come from
distributors of warez. There are legitimate places to get google apps for example: http://www.apkmirror.com/
Hi mates
Not sure why, but I checked & thought this phone had root when I bought it few days ago.
Looks like I'm out of luck, so just wondering if there's any other trick to have something like adaway or similar ?
Thanks
I also love adaway... this was the first reason to root all my phones.
Now that we can't root, I'm using "blokada". It's not as good as adaway, but it helps a lot. After trying different apps, this is the one which I got best results.
Let's see if someone is using anything better.
Just installed and currently testing adblock from rucksack.
Looks fine so far ! Doesn't seem to work on YouTube though, but I'm sure one can find a good ad-free YouTube replacement
you can use Adguard , it creates a local vpn on your phone that filters your data , it blocks trackers and ads.

for youtube , i'm using youtube vanced it works like a charm
In config settings search for privste dns and set it to 'dns.adguard.com'. That should filter out a lot of the ads.
Just tried that, I assume it's the private dns from system settings and thus won't require adguard or any other installed ? Nice trick, thanks
