Hello Everyone,
I just recently updated my Xperia M Dual to 4.3 using PC Companion , but now I want to root my phone since I want to use link2sd to free up some space in the internal memory. I was checking out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2529561 but I think its for 4.2.2 so can someone help me with a tutorial on how to root my device and use link2sd.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Bro u have to either unlock your bootloader or downgrade ur xperia, only then u will be able to root your xmd.

I had a tough time following a few root methods on here for my M Dual device, but what helped me just gain root was:
1. Flash CWM recovery via Flashtool (fastboot mode : select kernel to flash)
2. Reboot into recovery, perform backup of current system just to be safe to SD card.
3. Download Stock ROM with root & matching Radio (go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703161) following the directions on that post.
This will at least gain you root access.
Hope this helps!
You can root with:
POOT: This app is a one click root app. No computer needed
Framaroot: Framaroot is a oneclick root app . No computer needed
This is the most popular one!
Z4Root: Z4Root is an oneclick root app . No computer needed
Towelroot: Towelroot is an oneclick root app. No computer needed
Baidu: No information
Vroot: No information
Gingerbreak: This app can root almost all gingerbread devices

Framaroot - Download the app inside this XDA Thread - >> CLICK HERE <<
Z4ROOT - Download the app inside this XDA Thread - >> CLICK HERE <<
Towelroot - Download the app inside this XDA Thread - >> CLICK HERE <<

@DanielBink, at the moment only Nicki Root and Towel Root works in 4.3 update, or, if you have unlocked bootloader, flashing SuperSU through recovery. Everything else will fail...
@mbc07 ah okay
Can you give me the link to "nicki root" .
How does "nicki root" root work?
With computer or is it an one click root app?

hey ..
i ask about how can i log in Recovery mode for Xperia Arc LT15i without flashing kernels.
I want to enter recovery of sony , want to keep sony logo and the ability also to enter recovery without pc.
Do you have you root? If do you can install clockworkmod/cwm which will get you into recovery mode there is a link to download in the dev section or go to market and download it is free.

uhm are you using the stock rom from sony?
because i'm pretty sure .62 cant be rooted with zergRush
Like the post above you can't directly root.62 with zergrush method.
If your bootloader is locked you can use flashtools to downgrade to .42 then get root with zergrush, then you can update over the air to .62 and still keep root.
If your bootloader is unlocked do not update over the air out you will brick your phone.
Look at the stickies you will find all the tools you need.

the Bootloader is opened and i uses a prerooted kernel and Windy Ser1es 30.5 rom.
when i try to use titanium back up, it said Root : can't access. so why ? i dnt know.
now, i want to do root manually, how i can do this ?
i want to keep my opened boot loader and keep sony logo with recovery, how can i do this also ?
Flash DooMKernel to get root and then flash the other kernel to keep the Sony logo.
But why do you want to keep that Sony logo?
DooMLoRD's bootlogo looks much better

thanks for your reply.
another 2 Qs :
-what's the difference bet. CM7.2 and CM9.0 and which is better ?
-which kernel is best to use ?
CM7.2 = Android 2.3.7
CM9 = Android 4.0.4
For CM ROMs the included kernels are the best
For gingerbread from Sony I'd say go for DooMKernel

Hi try the below link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276 :
It worked for me. Now my karbonn a2+ is a rooted phone. I tried many rooting tools and linux rooting method all failed
Some root tools were not able to root my phone. As a beginner and a non programmer I believe its because of the structure of the phone.
1. MTKdroid root tool - Unable to root
2. binary root tools - Unable to root
3. Eroot - Unable to root
4. SRS - Unable to root
5. Manual rooting- failed
6. stock recovery rooting - failed
I backed up my ROM with MtkDroidTool, this tool may ask you to root again, (just click root if that button appears).

I managed to root mine with motochopper. I had some issues getting it to root because running bat file as amin doesn't work and you have to run it as normal user.
Finally gain root with motochopper, always failed before
I fail gain root with motochopper, here is what i do the last time and get root
The latest version of Kingo Android Root did it for me. Just download it, put your cellphone into usb debug mode in the configuration settings, conect it to your computer via usb and run the program.
Since I'm a new user I can't give you the link to the download site, but you can easily find it through google.

I have rooted using vRoot too. How did you unroot?
Hello,
I'm trying to figure out this but after so many searches on internet and XDA forum still not sure:
I want to root my Xperia M but wont touch the bootloader, ideally.
This rooting method dont change the bootloader?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529561&page=5
My plan is rooting, than backup TA partition (untouched). So that's why Im asking about the method described in the link.
Considering that this rooting method will not touch bootloader, after rooting, all changes will be performed/changed on the ROM? If yes I can just backup ROM and tag it as "rooted ROM", use it to restore to my phone when wanted?
I'm really confused about HW/FS topology. What are the parts? Hardware->bootloader->ROM ? Where resides the Kernel? Own ROM contains the Kernel?
I want to backup stock ROM before going to root. I know a method is using SUS to repair phone, extract downloaded files and compile the .tft. I'm afraid because in the past (on xperia mini pro), I did "repair phone" on SUS but it upgraded ROM to a recent version instead! It's probably I did something wrong? I wont upgrade latest but just backup actual ROM. There's any other method to extract ROM without using SUS and before rooting? (i.e. using CWM)
I know this is a lot of questions. Any help on any question, even individually is greatly appreciated.
Salute!

Hello ansebovi,
Yeah I'm on 4.2.2.
I was reading a lot of XDA threads last days. Also your topics are very useful, thanks for them. My question wasn't about "how to root my phone", my questions were about specific details I (still) didn't find on forums. Of course it may be I didn't search enough yet for those specific questions.
I don't care about having always the latest firmware and since I decided the root method for 4.2.2 (explained here at XDA), looks secure enough, I will just stick to 4.2.2 until I decide to upgrade in some future.
So, to root my Xperia M Dual (C2004) I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529561
To have bootloader unlocked I followed a thread posted by you, thanks for that.
Finally I installed CWM for my firmware version using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494793
It was hard to find how to boot into CWM but its simple as pressing volume up and power up buttons together when the purple light appears.
Now I have this issue: Telling CWM to make a backup, it does it copying files to internal storage and no to the SD card! So I ended for now with this last barrier to finally reach a production state and start customizing my phone. Any clue in this regard is welcome. I read somewhere that Xperia M have different (non usual), designations for storage points. Like calling SD as internal storage and stuff, but Im not sure if I uderstaood that well.
Anyway, thanks guys for the help and tips.

Just some updates:
Accordingly SUS terms of service you are able to recover your phone using SUS just if there's not any available firmware update. If there's some updated firmware, SUS will always flash your phone to that last firmware (even using option "fix my phone"). It makes sense by Sony point of view: They can save money on support if most of the people are updated and using a same firmware at a give time/period. So the method using SUS to backup your firmware is only effective if there's not any update available.
CWM x Xperia M works just great. Was me doing stupid things and selecting wrong mount point to perform the backup. Not sure if it's always the same but at least in here CWM calls internal storage as "/sdcard" and SD card as "/sdcard1". I read /sdcard and thought it were the right location... but it's not.
