TMOUS Firmware Packages, RUUs, & Backups
These are the currently publicly available firmware images, RUUs, Stock Nands, and recovery flashable radios for the T-Mobile HTC One (M8) from official OTAs and RUUs. We have made them available here to help make the return to stock (for whatever reason) just a little easier. All of these packages can be obtained through other official means such as OTAs & RUUs. These packages are intended for s-off users & users of custom roms that cannot currently except over the air updates.

Custom firmware.zips are unsigned, so S-Off is required to flash those packages. The firmware section of this thread is geared towards S-Off users that need to return to stock or obtain the nearest firmware. *Importan Notice*
Official firmware package contains the stock boot.img and is intended to be flashed while running a 1.57.531.xx ROM or after flashing a 1.57.531.xx ROM. ROMs built off of a different base may fail to boot after flashing the stock 1.57 boot.img. The official package also includes the stock recovery.img, which has a two step process to enter. First, boot into bootloader and select recovery. Then, at the black screen with the red triangle, press power+UP to enter the essentially useless stock recovery. If you want use a custom recovery, like TWRP, you will need to fastboot flash it again after flashing firmware.

I could be wrong though

Can this be made available without the hboot? I've always liked to keep the original hboot on my HTC devices. Thanks. Also why would a person not want to have the boot.img? thanks

Also if we flash the first firmware full package will we lose root?

So, If I flash this Ruu, it'd be safe to flash the OTA? I am feeling pretty noobish but don't want to have a very shiny paper weight.
I'm running the nv rom but I want to return to stock.

I flashed the custom firmware and it was successful but my hboot didn't change. Can anyone confirm what the hboot number is? Thanks

No, sorry when you converted to GPE you changed your partition sizes. To change back we need an RUU or the dzdata.imgs, which are not currently available. Also if/when we have those, you would still need to flash stock rom afterwards because this is merely firmware. There is no OS included whatsoever.

I can't remember if this happened before I flashed the custom firmware or not but after flashing the custom firmware when I'm booting into recovery I have the red development text warning again. It's only when I bit into recovery though. Can someone respond and let me know if they have it? I wonder if flashing the file to remove the Red text as I did before is safe? Thanks

P.S.A.
If anyone would like to install this firmware without hooking up to a PC, all it requires an SD card.
Simply:
rename the firmware zip "0P6BIMG.zip"
copy to the root of your SD card
reboot into bootloader (power+vol dwn)
when prompted to confirm the flash select Yes using volume key to confirm the update.

Yup, sure does. The custome zip will work with ANY rom. That is the whole reason the custom zip is provided, it's why I included it.
The custom zip allows you to KEEP your custom rom AND custom recovery installed and functioning, the way you want it.
The official zip includes the stock recovery AND 1.57 boot.img, so it should only be used in association with a 1.57 rom. It will help return you to 100% stock.
There is a zip for both situations.

Firmware zips are included as part of each build HTC releases. They contain important device controlling data and code for radio, bootloader, recovery, boot.img etc. As such this thread provides the most recently released firmware zips for the T-Mobile variant of the HTC M8. It is geared towards users that are not on official software paths, such as users of custom ROMs like ViperOneM8, InsertCoin, Renovate, etc.

Stock Recovery for HOX 1.29.709.12

This info is for those who only root their HOX Taiwan version phones without custom ROM. When trying the OTA update 2.17.709.2 (Taiwan unbranded version), I had a hard time to find the recovery of Taiwan version 1.29.709.12.
If you are in the same situation as mine, no need to relock, unroot or anything. Just follow the steps to get OTA installed:
1. Download the IMG file, place it in the same folder with fastboot files.
2. Make sure HOX is "Fastboot USB" mode.
3. In cmd: fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
4. Click "Software Update"
5. Once you have install the latest OTA, you can flash whatever recovery you want.
For those who need the 1.29.709.12 RUU, someone else provided this link to download the file. PJ46IMG_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_TW_1.29.709.12_Radio_1.1204.107.14_release_261362_signed.zip

This method works perfectly fine, and android is open sourced so how would this be illegal?
They have to tell you it may void your warranty because they aren't reliable for any mistakes in the process. The video you're looking for is here.

This isn't the method in the first post
Well i tried this method (trying to flash the update from 3.20.401.1 to 3.20.401.3) and could'nt do anything.
Here are the options i get in recovery
Code:
Reboot system now
Apply update from external storage
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipa cache partition
apply update from cache
Apply update from internal storage
None of these options allow me to actually select a file.
I tried to rename the update zip to "update.zip" and put it on the root of the storage (and the root of the cache partition), and i get different errors depending on the option i chose to flash.
"Apply update from external storage" gives this error :
Code:
PTT signature error
-- Invalid operation. --
Success Rebooting by reason:oem-00...
"apply update from cache" gives this message :
Code:

Success Rebooting by reason:oem-00...
"Apply update from internal storage" only gives the following message but does not flash anything...
Code:

What option did you actually use? How did you select the zip file?

This is why you should of used a custom recovery. You would have no problems flashing a stock rom.
The file containg the Zip is outside of HTC and there digital signatures, that is why it is was found as an invalid operation which is the exact reason why customs recoveries were made.
If you want the 4.2.2 update, follow the earlier video I posted.

Sure, but a custom recovery is not going to let me flash boot.img or hboot... Since i currently have enough patience to wait for the rollout to actually happen for my CID, i don't want to backup, relock, upgrade hboot, reunlock and restore. Laziness at its best... ^^
When the official OTA will happen, i will only have to use it and no need to relock, boot.img and hboot will be upgraded with no issues.
If i don't see an update in maybe two weeks, then i may upgrade with a custom recovery. But i can wait a few more days, my life does not depend on this...
The stock recovery is able to flash boot.img and hboot, so it could be possible to use it to upgrade with official OTA files. Yet i can't find any way to select the update file and make the recovery actually process it.
EDIT : by the way, my cid should be HTC_001 or 203, i don't remember but again, too lazy to relock just to find out which one it is... :'(
I'm not clear what your problem is.
If you're currently on 3.20.401.1 and have hboot greater 1.3 then you can easily flash the odexed 4.2.2 for the HOX in about 20 minutes.

I understand Craiglivesey94's position, if we badly want to get 4.2.2 fast, we can flash a custom rom and get done with it in a matter of a few minutes.
The deal of this topic was to use the stock recovery and files to install OTA updates, without resorting to a custom rom and only using files provided by HTC itself.
If we want to do the migration ourselves (i like to actually understand what is inside my phone, especially if it is not provided by the manufacturer itself), only using HTC provided files and no custom roms, and if we have a compatible CID even though it is not in the current rollout from HTC, the only way is to update manually (to 3.20.401.3 first, then to 4.18.401.1) using a custom recovery, then relock and flash hboot, then maybe reunlock, thus wiping the phone and having to restore a backup of "data" partition made earlier.
This is quite time consuming (actually mainly the backup/restore part, the rest would be the same or nearly the same with official OTA), and is not really worth it if HTC does rollout the update for my CID in the next few days.
Again, there are "quicker, easier, more seductive" (© Yoda) ways to achieve this, but that's not what i am after...
Anyway, to stay on topic, i couldn't reproduce what OP explained in his first post, so could he provide maybe a few more explanation as to what the steps actually are?

Possible if the OTA you want to flash is destined for your phone's CID.
Perhaps the OP was just lucky

It's good to understand how an OTA works.
OTA is a ZIP file - plain and simple. It's placed on an update server. A device is asking that server for updates and if certain data matches (like CID) the device is allowed to download that ZIP file.
ZIP is downloaded usually to the root of the "sdcard" and after the download is done the "downloading app" tells the device to boot into recovery. When in recovery, the device will verify the update package (CID/checksums/whatever) and if the checks go OK the flashing begins.
So, IF you have an official OTA ZIP file, AND IF it is meant for your device (CID), AND IF you have stock recovery THEN you can just put the ZIPped OTA in the root of the sdcard and reboot to recovery. The stock recovery will automatically search for a valid ZIP file.
And there is another way But you need to have a phone with S-OFF. And if you do, you're one of the few lucky

First, you can't use 4.16.401.10 when your device is S-On.
Second, you need the stock recovery installed then only OTA can proceed.
What's your software version no. now ? Is it 3.28.709.6 ? Are you doing lollipop OTA ?
All the files needed are here if the above version no. is correct.

Just to share some usefull information :
As been explained he can't use that firmware on a s-on device.
A firmware comes with different software numbers which are linked to different cids. If his cid is not supported by the firmware he simply can't flash it. Unless he gets s-off and change the cid. Therefore he needs the matching firmware, he could flash that firmware 10 times and it would still fail.

Sense your unlocked you can flash a custom recovery using fastboot as i would use twrp. An then download supersu.zip an flash it in your newly installed twrp recovery. An now you are rooted.
Maybe I didn't explain properly my bootloader is not unlocked yet, just wanted to know since the update is there a new root method....? Thanks for replying

nbd. You should be able to use htcdev.com to unlock your bootloader Or you can go the s-off way(which I recommend) use the sunshine app for s-off(if your device is capable of s-off now) an if it is sunshine will s-off an unlock for you an then do what I said above post. Those r really your only 2 choices.
FYI you will need to be on either of the latest two twrp versions to install su binaries properly if you have issues. Sunshine wouldn't work for me but its really easy to unlock bootloader and install twrp and su

You could do that yes. Or just flash the firmware zip an then flash twrp an flash updated ROM an you r up to date....if you run ruu it will wipe your device so backup your stuff to a PC or external an then proceed with ruu an flashing twrp then ROM. After you flash twrp I recommend strongly to make a backup of stock before you wipe to flash new ROM.

I guess i'm confused because of my Hboot being on 3.19. I've been wondering if there is a need to run a higher Hboot that probably came out with the new OTA, but the VenonRom 4.2 has been running with no problems. So i guess what I am really trying to achieve is upgrading HBoot and Radio.

Those r removed. Why you wonder because if boot.IMG is included an your on a custom ROM that don't use stock boot.IMG an modules you will be in a boot loop till you fastboot your ROM boot.img an recovery is removed because who wants a stock recovery to replace twrp then you have to flash your twrp back. Make sense to you?

I apologize if this is a noob question, but it's late, I'm tired and probably shouldn't be messing with my phone anyways. My current status is unlocked, rooted, s-off, 1.21.617.3 base, VZW radio flashed. Can I just install the ROM version in the OP according to the instructions to update to the new firmware and then reflash the VZW radio after? Not really keen on restoring stock recovery/boot > format data > take OTA > reflash SuperSU/TWRP to get the latest firmware. Thanks

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "instructions to update to the new firmware." However, I have included instructions in the OP for whichever method you want to use. Either via PC, or via SD card. You could flash either way, then reflash the Verizon radio. Just keep in mind you will now have a stock recovery, stock boot image, stock system image, new firmware, and no root...all of it stock.
So I can just follow jcase's guide again to regain root/TWRP/SuperSU after flashing the ROM? Then just reflash the Verizon radio and I should be updated and good to go? I'm a little unclear with the boot.img though, at which point should that be modified, when side loading SuperSU?
FYI, when I clicked the link to the ROM, the Android file host file looks to be the RUU or maybe the file just has RUU in the name by mistake?

Flashing either one of the files I've linked will give you a 100% stock device. You will be starting basically from scratch (you will still be s-off and unlocked however).
The android file host link is a Rom.zip. I just included ruu in the zips title so folks would know what it is, AND where it came from. It is the Rom.zip from the 1.53.617.5 RUU.
10-4, thanks for providing this.
Agreed, always good to have these on hand.
OK so for clarification, if I am bootloader unlocked, rooted, and ROMed, flashing this is OK and will NOT brick my device?

Are you 100% sure about this? I think s-on can flash signed zips in ruu mode with bootloader unlocked. Keyword being signed. Just asking because people relocking bootloader seems to cause so many issues and most of the time it's unnecessary. Like taking otas.
