Hello,
My Note 2 (SGH-i317) is currently running 4.3 DN3 v 3.1.1 ROM, everything seems to be working fine except I'm not able to back up the current ROM. I have tried CWM v: 6.25.0, 6.26.6 & 6.41.6 \ TWRP v: 2.6.3.1 & 2.7.0.1
Backing up to my external 64GB micro SD (Fat32), they all fail making a back up right before its finished (backing up data...) even if i clear Dalvik Cache right before running the backup.
Im new so i cannot post in ([TOOL/UTILITY][TWRP][ 2.7][RECOVERY] TWRP 2.7.0.1 TeamWin Recovery Project")
Attached is my log file from TWRP v2.7.0.1
E:Error adding file '/data/data/com.android.chrome/cache/Cache/347e5c9ebdd67a41_0' to '/external_sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/42f7ce3d7d979f91/2014-05-16--05-20-40//data.ext4.win000'

HELP!!!
Update:
I think something is wrong with my partitions, its now stating there is no free space on external. Can someone point me in the right direction to fixing\making sure my partitions are correct?
Have you tried another sd card ??
It's possible that your card has been corrupted or is damaged...
You should attempt a complete format of the card to FAT32 and try again ???....g

Thx for taking the time,
swapping\reformatting micro SD was the first thing i tried, from a 46GB to a 32GB to a 16GB, still same issue!
This is not my main smartphone so i can keep working on it but the fact i cant make a backup has me a bit frustrated and worried about anything going wrong in the future.
I just got used to always having a "SAFE" backup as plan A!
could anyone tell me the "TEMP" location of the backup file before recovery moves it to the external SD?

Did everything the way I normally do when flashing a new rom.
Now when I attempt to load any ROM from my sd card, I get this message:
Installing system files ...
E:Error in /sdcard/Incredible Files/SkyRaider_33_Sense_Final.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
I also try to do a restore from my nandroid backups and it ALWAYS "freezes". Now the only thing I can do is boot into recovery but nothing after that. I've read through a lot of material and know how to do most things, however I'm by no means an expert and now I feel like I've caused irreversible damage.
HELP?
sounds to me like your rom got corrupt during the download, i would try to download it again after deleting the file off your SD card.
did you download it from a PC or from your inc? i have seen people get corrupt files when downloading straight from the inc, its best to use a PC to download the roms
you can use the mount menu in recovery to mount your usb storage if you dont have an adapter to read the microsd, this will let you replace the possibly corrupt rom with a fresh zip
My original sd card has become unreadable by both my incredible and by my sd card reader. I have another one and loaded all of the backed up files I had on the old one. I've tried downloading the ROM through ROM Manager as well as placing the file on the new sd card and both do the same thing.
I honestly have no idea what to do now and am worried that not everything I need was transferred to the new sd card.
I just want to be able to load ANY ROM and I'm willing to reset/wipe anything and everything but I don't think there's anything I can do at this point....
well there is nothing that needs to be on the SD card at all aside from the backup or [rom].zip file you are trying to flash
have you tried installing a different rom with recovery? maybe virtous rom?
also what version of clockwork recovery are you running?

And you're sure it's FAT32?

Positive it's FAT32 and I just flashed the most current Clockwork Recovery from ROM Manager.

Try to format/partition the sd via recovery. The new clockwork has this method (haven't tried it and don't know if it works) and the alternate RA does, too. I've used that one and know it works. Try that (leave the defaults, which is 512mb sd-ext, 32mb or similiar swap, I think, and the rest as FAT32).
boot into hboot (vol down and power when device is off)
what hboot version and baseband are you running?
I dont think the sd card is the problem
I wiped the dalvik and batt stats and for whatever reason tried again to reinstall the ROM and it went through this time.
Everything seems to be working as normal. Man was that one weird ass experience.
Hi. I accidentally clicked on maybe free nandroid space, partition sd card, or something like that and now i can ´t restore any backup or install rom from sd card. But I can see them so are they in storage?
symlink: some symlink failed..... error in **** (status7) Error while restoring systemThose are some of the errors. I hope I didn´t damaged phone. Thanks
So reboot recovery solved some problems and files were there, but still some errors, cannot restore backup but clean install booted.
Now i cannot access files from PC , oh what have I done, just one wrong click.
Edit2: Ok, everything seems fine, topic could be deleted, but if someone know what happened I would like to know it too, here or PM. Thanks
One reason I always use NON-touch recoveries: it is very difficult to "accidentally" click on something.

Hello, I've been trying to flash a rom and keep getting this error on TWRP:
Updating partition details...
E: Unable to open zip file.
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/update.zip'
Updating partition details...
Failed
I tried downloading a different ROM (ParanoidAndroid, then ParanoidKANGdroid, then CM10), installing from the external SD card instead of the internal one, switching from CWM to TWRP since some people have been complaining about CWM recently, and I just keep getting the same error.
Also, when I try to install the zip file from my computer instead of my phone, it won't let me put the file in any of the SD card's folders, so I'm not sure if that's normal/relevant to the problem. Would installing a custom kernel or trying to partition the SD card help? I don't have an SD card reader unfortunately but I'm pretty sure it's in fat32 format.
Thank you very much!
Whenever I get "bad" (followed by an Android robot on his back with a red shape on his front) while installing it usually just means a bad download.
Re-download to another folder (if you can download FROM your phone directly to your phone) I find that works really well.
Alright, I'll try downloading again, thanks. I have saved it in both the downloads and the ROM folder I created myself with no difference though.
I tried downloading CM10 directly from my phone to my downloads folder and still got the same error.
I had problems flashing a particular rom. Same as your having, I use TWRP. If you read in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2034844 others have same experience. There are some solutions and something about editing a script.
Sorry I can't be more helpful but this was a bit more than I could take.
Thanks! I'll be sure to read through it. No amount of help is too small at this point lol.
If your sd card is 64gig you have to use win util to format it to fat32. Google format 64 gig sd fat.

My card is only 16gigs; do I still have to format it?

You can take out the variable of the MicroSD card and flash from the internal SDcard.
I've tried both; thanks though.
What version of TWRP/CWM are you using?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
TWRP 2.3.1.0 and CWM 6.0.1.2
Sounds like you are having filesystem corruption issues. I would suggest formatting your internal and/or external sdcards.

I just ordered an sd card reader so I'll check it out, thanks. I don't think I've done anything to corrupt the filesystem though. Do you think it was already corrupted when I bought it?
Stuff happens. Filesystem corruption can be cause by almost anything. Typically it happens when your device random reboots.

This may be off base here, but are you selecting the option in your recovery to "flash update.zip" rather than manually browsing for the ROM Zip?
I've tried choosing the "flash rom" option from the Goo Manager app as well as the "install" option from the recovery menu.
Same Prob, escalated...
I was having the same problem. After some research I found a tip to Delete a portion of coding in the begining of the update-script zip file. Only now it is unable to open and read the zip file. I too was doing from computer via external sd card. Have you gotten any where since?

I've had problem with TF101 flashing. At least i copied the zip files into the internal sdcard from the microsd with the trwp file manager and the problem was solved.

Hi,
Need help!!
I was trying to roll back to miui from CM12 and followed guide from technobuzz. i've added the link below.
I've encountered an error while installing the file.
error says too many open files. while its updating partition details.
Flashed the latest stable Carbon rom yesterday and decided it wasn't for me so this morning I rebooted to TWRP and tried to run restore. The restore failed and the only error i see in the console is
Code:
E: error opening '/data/lost+found'
I went ahead and did the standard wipe (which also gave the same error, though it did not say failed) and rebooted, assuming it would just throw me back into carbon, but it got stuck in sort of a slow boot loop. I finally got back into recovery and now I'm at a bit of a loss. I saw only 2 suggestions, one being wipe /data and the other to flash back to stock with Odin. I'm not against wiping /data if someone could could either confirm that it would work or tell me if it's possible to backup some stuff from /data to my external sdcard or pc.
any advice would be appreciated, thanks
also sorry if this is the wrong place to post, I didn't see where else it would fit, says I can't post in the GS3 troubleshooting area.

Ok, I'm up and running again. I ended up formatting /data through twrp after I found out i could copy files over to external sd through its file manager.
so in case someone else runs into this:
assumes you have a twrp backup on the external sd
1. move important files with twrp's file manager to sd card
2. format /data
3. reboot recovery
3. standard wipe
4. restore backup from external
5. reboot system and cross fingers
Hi guys,

LITTLE UPDATE
i USED my nandroid backup and from it i could install just the BIOS .. and i've got back my OMNI ROM but internal partition is only 2,9GB
so how can i get back all normal from this point? like REVERSE LVM or reinstall it ??
or jsut format partition..
thank you all !
Ok.. I solved it... Main problem seemed to be that I went from a lvm rom to a Not LVM... so I used 2 files to revert and recreate lvm.. In the end I've got my rom back to work
