[Q] Photos app...weirdness - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Originally posted this over at AC....but with 200 views and no responses, maybe it's better here at XDA.
Having a weird one with the Photos app. Photos that are deleted, keep re-populating after a couple of hours. It's over 200 images...
HTC One M8, rooted, SuperSU'd, and then flashed with TWRP to the standard Google Play Edition of KK 4.4.2 (that supposedly keeps OTA updates). I do have a 32gig SD card installed (technically I didn't format the SD card in the phone, just installed it and it was recognized and started working). The SD card does have a few apps and other data (music) on it.
Photos app on the M8 is NOT signed into my Google account (verified in the Photos app settings section). Looking at the Photos app on Google via my computer browser, these images do NOT show up (deleted, and emptied trash a couple days ago).
These images are not part of my Google Drive.
It almost seems like the Photos app thinks it is deleting the images, but a permissions issues keeps it from happening (even though the Photos app image view thinks it does).
Which kind of seems like what is going on, but I don't know how to solve if that's what it is. I had also installed Pixlr Express and Camera ZOOM a couple weeks ago. I've since deleted these two apps, but their subdirectory remnants remain...
Any ideas on this?
TIA.

Hey There,
I read this somewhere, that the 4.4.2 Android has issues deleting stuff -obviously pictures in this case- from the SDcard..
They will correct it with 4.4.3. ... or you have the chance to install a custom rom..it is prolly fixed there

Shell has been granted superuser permission

Sprint Samsung gs3, rooted, stock.
I'm getting a popup once in a while that says, 'Shell has been granted superuser permission.' This is often followed by the phone running hot if it doesn't crash all together and/or reboot itself.
There is no single thing that seems to trigger it. I can be surfing a browser or using a host of different apps, and I'll get the popups. One particular thing triggers it every time is the gallery, but only one particular folder (of course it's the one with the camera images in it!). Any of the other folders the gallery sees work just fine, but the camera gallery loads, freezes, prompts the shell message, then closes the gallery all together.
I updated the su binaries in superuser today from version 3.1 to 3.1.1 and it made no difference.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Shell is most likely a terminal emulator application. Check your installed apps to see what it might be, because it seems that you're either not exiting properly or its running excessively in the background
And that grayish popup, called a toast, is just the Superuser application telling you that that app is running and it has root privileges
Shell is not one of the installed apps. It doesn't show up in the list of running apps or installed apps, and doesn't show up in the list of approved apps in Superuser either.
That being said, I think I found the problem... Since it seemed to be relegated to accessing the gallery app and, specifically, the one particular folder of photos on the SD card, I unmounted the SD card, popped it into the laptop, and tried to copy over the latest batch of photos and videos (two weeks worth since the last backup). I found two corrupted files, one photo and one video, that windows was unable to access and/or copy over. Since they weren't anything too important (just a pic of my daughter and a short video of my son being goofy), I deleted them from the card, reinstalled it in the phone, and viola! Problem solved (so far). I can't say conclusively that everything that was causing it to crash was because of the corrupted photo and video file, but at least I can access the gallery again without it crashing.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see...

[Q] Gallary

The gallary app on my S4 Mini is "misbehaving" when I open it, it takes a very long time to start responding and even when it does it is really slow. I have done a factory reset and cleared out all the photos and videos form my system. With only having 5 photos it is still almost unusable.
I have done a factory reset (Didn't make a difference) and also cleared cache and data
Also when looking at the app info my phone reports it is using 1.6GB of space (even when there is virtually no content on my phone) I always store my photos and videos on the external SD card.
I have seem other people reporting similar issue on other sites with no responses. Any advice?

I think my Note is possessed

About 3-4 days ago my TW launcher started randomly crashing. I ended up going to the Google Now Launcher which crashes but less than TW. I'm sure there's an app not getting along with it but there is already an ongoing post about this issue.
I have a San Disk 64gb card in and photos are saved to there. Tonight I was getting ready to upload a picture from the gallery and when I opened it there no pictures to select from. I cleared the cache and reset the app, checked the settings to make sure scan device was enabled was checked and it is. I am able to open music and video from sdcard and apps no problem. I downloaded a 3rd party gallery app and it picks the sdcard photos no problem. Something is messed up with the gallery app. It still doesn't recognize pictures.
Anyone have this issue??

Its been going on with several of us. Most likely from the latest update of apps would be my guess. Im not an expert but this is when it began for me, also my wifes Note 4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-att/help/touch-wiz-t3273048
For me deleting Facebook and restoring it to the original version that came with the phone fixed this issue
Well my gallery issues are fixed and I went back to TW. I cleared several apps. I also went into gadget Disabler and enabled bloatware reset the phone and then went into gadget Disabler again. I got rid of Allshare, Shealth, Chromecast, ATT Bloatware, SGear, and a couple widgets, Music, SMilk, Flipboard viewer. Everything else I left because I think some of the things that were picked messed up my Gallery and right now I have no lag so I'm pretty satisfied for now

Google Photos cannot save changes with Android Q Beta 2 + patch

Help!
I OTA upgraded my unrooted Google Pixel 2 XL with Android Pie to Q Beta 1, Beta 2 and Beta 2 patch. Now my Google Photos seems severely broken (even though I updated it to the latest version available).
When I edit a photo, a toast message tells that the changes could not be saved. The thumbnails shows the unchanged photo and when I open it, it still looks unchanged. But as soon as I start to zoom, the photo switches to the edited version (pretty obvious when changing a photo to b/w). It seems like the cached thumbnail (and small size local cache) stays unchanged.
I assumed a permission issue and tried several things: Revoking and re-granting all permissions for both Google Photos and Google Camera, granting permissions via adb but still no lock.
I forced closed Google Photos, deleted the complete data and synced anew. As soon as all photos have been retrieved from the cloud, Photos tells me to have several hundred changes to upload. Cannot be. I forced closed again, cleared the data, cleared the local photos folder and started anew. The same thing happened again. Buzzer. Before factory resetting the whole phone, I did a last try:
I switched scope storage off with adb and started Google Photos over again after having deleted everything once more. This time, Google Photos retrieved all Photos fine without wanting to upload anything after this.
So obviously, it was an issue releated to scoped storage.
But even now, editing photos still do not show the edited version in thumbnail view. I am rather desperate and thinking about factory resetting my phone. What keeps me from doing it, is that I fear the same behaviour might occur again since it is due to the Q Beta 2 + patch.
Any clues, hints tipps, whatever? This would be highly appreciated!
Thx, Andreas
I have just noticed that the changes are not submitted to the cloud. Even worse: They are treated as a copy, meaning that the original file is lost. The permissions seem to be messed up pretty badly.
I updated my pixel to beta 2 update with latest patch still having same problem , some bank apps I use don't work now too frustrating, Camera is lagging
same problem here, I return to stable one
deleted
I tried the instructions I gave and they didn't work
Just for update: Works flawlessly now with Beta 3

Gallery App Suggestions?

Hi
I have been using Quickpic for like 8 years on my Androids, but since Cheetah mobile got a hold of it, it went down hill. I have tried to use Samsung's built in gallery app, but it simply cannot cope with stuff being deleted using other apps in the system - put simply it will forever show either empty or complete thumbnails for the items that have been been removed from the filesystem - quickpic used to update instantly reacting to live changes on the underlying filesystem.
I use a drone with my note, and use the drone's own software to manage its pics/vids so its totally unacceptable for my to have to delete the content using the drone app, and then also delete the non-existing content from the samsung gallery just to have it quick showing thumbnails for stuff that is no longer existing on the ruddy device. Has anyone pointed out to Samsung that its 2019 ?!
So Suggestions for a gallery app that will react to changes (additions and deletions) in the underlying filesystem)?
The only way, in my understanding, for this to happen, is that your drone file deletion is malfunctioning.
Your phone finds cached photo's information, and showing it to you.
That means that your drone leaves leftovers after deletion. That is a security/privacy risk and also take up some storage from your SD card.
I delete pics and videos all the time from the phone directly and also using my laptop and never had any problems you describe, so previous poster may be right about drone being the culprit. Also I do remember I had some issues when all my pics were backed up to cloud and sometimes they would go out of sync, where phone would think the picture was in cloud, but wasn't there anymore, but I stopped using cloud services long time ago and don't remember details.
I use the paid version of F-Stop.
Gives you a ton of control.

Beside the stock Gallery, I also have an old Motorola Gallery on my Note 10+. I just carry the apk. file from phone to phone it's simple and works fine.
