[Q] My Softkeys Are Gone! - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I was hoping someone would have a solution, I have unlocked my Bootloader, installed CWM and SuperSU. My phone was working perfectly, downloaded a few root apps. These include Xposed Installer, Gravity Box, Softkeyz and Pimp My Rom. I changed the softkeys with the Softkeyz app and it also worked. However I rebooted my phone this afternoon and all of a sudden no softkeys! I dont know what to do, i've been rebooting the last hour changing settings in Softkeyz app, Gravity Box etc. I cancelled their SUperuser permissions but still nothing. Then I went in CWM wiped wiped cache, dalvik cache. Still nothing, could pimp my rom have done something? I really am at a loss, please someone help!

Install LMT Launcher or Pie Control and go from there. Make sure you configure the back and home buttons, backup everything you need, and flash a CM nightly other than the one that gave you trouble.

Try disabling Xposed framework or your root app(eg superuser, SuperSU, etc). It should fix your problem. Then check which apps break your systemUI. But if my solution didn't work then I guess wiping data partition is needed.

Thanks I'll try those solutions

[Q] Have root, but Titanium Backup constantly asks for SU Permissions

I Rooted a buddies DINC (SLCD) over the weekend using Unrevoked 3.1. The device is rooted (verified in ADB), and applications such as Root Explorer, and Drocap 2 work.
Here enters the problem. When I opened up Titanium backup it said "Could not find root". My next step was to hit the Problems button. As soon as Busybox updates there is an endless stream of root permission requests. Once you click allow about 20 times, they will stop. After you re open Titanium and click menu>Batch>Backup, again with the endless Superuser permission. I clicked allow at least 30 times by the time the backup reached 3 percent completion.
I figured maybe a quick fix permissions via ROM Manager might help. This time rom manager continued to error out.
NEXT, I figured I would install Busybox via the Busybox app on the market. I downloaded the stable version, Incredible rebooted, and once booted, I tried Ti Backup again......failed.
Next solution was to ADB push Busybox to the DINC in recovery. I got it to install, and even verified its existence with root explorer. I placed it in /System/xbin.
This fixed ROM manager, and I was able to fix permissions HOWEVER Titanium backup still CONSTANTLY asks for superuser permissions.
Also the last thing I can even think of adding to this is that I noticed that some of the root apps seem to ask for permission a little more than I am used to on my DINC. The logs are quite large.
Really have no idea why his is such a pain compared to mine. Again, like I said, he has a 2.2 stock rooted SLCD Incredible.
Any help would be appreciated.
Look at the permissions that you have set in the superuser app, if that's alright try updating or reinstalling superuser. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling titanium. If that doesn't work try cleearing your Dalvik Cache in clockwork. And if that doesn't work reinstall your rom i guess.

Only thing I havnt tried is wiping Dalvik. He wants to try flashing his first ROM without loosing all of his apps. But that may have to happen.

Also, I know it's generally obvious, but make sure Remember or Always Allow is checked. And reinstalling Superuser fixes most of these problems.

Wish it was all that easy. I have tried all of this lol. Titanium does not find busybix, so I doubt it is an SU issue. All the other root apps I have come across work. Like I said, I pushed Busybox, and it is now in system/xbin, but Ti still does not find it.
Similar issue
Hi, I have similar problem on Desire. I tried all as you and also no luck. I am going back to previous version where it worked.

Help!!! No apps reporting root!!! :(

So today after flashing a new rom and then going back to my nandroid backup of my previous rom SetCpu said I do not have root. I'm extremely worried. My phone is/was rooted of course seeing I could flash roms and SetCpu would work just about 25 minutes ago. Would anyone know what to do, rooting my phone previously was such a pain in the a**. Do I have a basta*d Desire HD? Someone be my savior!!
Check other apps that need root, like titanium backup. Still no root message? What ROM are you running? Did you do a full while when you flashed?
I always wipe data before restoring a NAND backup. You could try clearing data for superuser.
Superuser
Do you have the Superuser application?
The superuser app is still there just not working i guess and no app that uses root is working I don't know what to do. Will I have to re-root my device
Did you do what I suggested and do a full wipe then reinstall the backup? Did you try clearing your data for the superuser app?

It happened to me today after I had done what you did. I dont have setcpu. Titanium on my Unity said it doesnt have root. tried everything the guys mentioned here, apart from clearing the data of superuser.
Anyway I did a full wipe, with system format as well, and reflashed Virtuous Unity. All seems fine now.
I had the same problem. Fortunately I had a flashable superuser zip that worked every time. I always keep it on the root of my SD card now just in case. Let me know if you want it and I'll upload it tomorrow from my laptop.

I'd sure love to have it...you never know when you get hit by another no-root issue.
Try clearing Superuser data if you have access to Settings Menu (i was suggest but if you did or not )
<Menu>, <Settings>, <Applications>, <Manage Applications>, select the <ALL> tab, wait for everything to load, scroll down and select Superuser, <Clear Data>
I don't know what is wrong with Superuser app, but it keeps locking new apps from root automatically without asking.
are you sure that the new ROM is rooted ? try rooting it by visionary+
There you go mate. This always worked for me. Flash in recovery.

i have a similar issue. i rooted my sensation using revolutionary
towards the end it kept restarting the phone and going into the boot screen, and then restarting it again. it did this about 3 times, and then it said it failed. i restarted my phone to the boot menu, and it shows s-off. i tried running the revolutionary program again to make sure, and it confirmed this.
i then got the leedroid mod and flashed that to my phone. the leedroid mod works well, just whenever i try to access superuser it crashes. i tried accessing titanium backup and adfree and when these request for permissions, i get an android notification that superuser has crashed and the request times out.
i tried using this fix, but this errors as well...
any assistance in resolving this will be greatly appreciated
thanks
hi
i had the same problem with trying some new roms and restoring nandroid.
i fixed this problem with: Rom Manager -> correct permissions -> reboot
best regards

Status bar and softkeys missing help!!!!!

Tried installing a mod thru metamorph to put a background for the softkeys. Instead it DELETED the status bar and the soft keys. Now all that shows on the screen is the normal homescreen extended all the way past where the softkeys would be. Please tell me there's a fix for this.
*EDIT* I've wiped and installed a new rom. Still no dice.
COME ON ANYBODY!!!!!???????
Had the same problem after installing another ROM.
Restoring my backup solved the problem for me.

Sorry to bump this thread up!
But now i've got the same problem..
I'm running Jellybean 4.2.1 stock but recently rooted using the Gnex Toolkit (which is the eadiest thing!).
I've downloaded Rom Toolbox Pro via the Play Store and was checking out the possibilities of the app.
I saw the option to change the dpi from 320 to 240 at first, wich always looked nice on screenshots and such.
Then i was looking at the Theme Manager where i can change the status bar from stock to transparent and installed it in app.
After rebooting, suddenly my Status bar and my softkeys are gone...
After using the device without the back and home buttons, i did some research on it and found out my device needs to be deodexed before wanting to do it safe?!
I got no backups made, as stupid as i am, and tried installing all sorts of themes for the status bar..
The most obvious option to me is to wipe dalvik cache since that was said all over the internet.
I could really use some help on this, since i dont want to backup my pictures and music because im scared that when i do a wipe, all my data is lost -.-
I might sound stupid, but if there isnt any other option, i might install a different rom.

Since you're using the stock, you might want to try install the system.IMG you've downloaded via fastboot, wipe cache and dalvik via CWM (Assuming you have CWM installed), the same thing happen to me while installing mods, flashing system.img on top fixed it for me. The other solution is to flash another ROM, you might want to backup your apps via TB in case of both fails
EDIT: This is assuming than you've flashed to stock 4.2.1 via fastboot/toolkit, the easiest method to fix this by far is installing a ROM .zip in CWM, but if you want to stay stock for some reason you may want to try following EF Rant's return to stock guide and flashing everything BUT the userdata.img, instead you would have to boot CWM and then wiping cache/dalvik, or if it still doesn't boot, factory reset. It won't touch your picture and music, but back it up regardless to be safe.
Nav bar + status bar is related to SystemUI.apk, most likely the mod did not install properly, reflash the ROM zip.
Thanks guys for the quick repy!
Isn't there any way to reinstall the systemui.apk? I've tried clicking on it so it installs the apk but didnt work.
@reysonance: im gonna try the Factory Reset option. ill post an update as soon as i did the reset.
The only reason for me to root the device was so i could use the USB OTG option so i can place music on my carradio's usb using a file manager.
I dont know if i have clockwork mod on it, ill check it out tonight.
Thanks again!

Thank god the factory reset option worked for me! A huge thanks for this, reysonance!!!
Now i need to reinstall all my apps .. sigh .. but anyhow i can use my device again as it normally did

I think the cause was the xbackground cause I used wanam for 1 day and nothing happened (I kinda liked the different design of my notification).
To be sure now I will do a nandroid backup with TWRP
Thank you

Anyone had flashed xposed for Robin?

I have a problem while I tried to flash xposed on my nextbit robin(Android 6.0, official software version 00WW_1_19E) .
The following is my step:
1. Restore system
2. Root
3. install busybox and XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk
4. Flash xposed-v80-sdk23-arm64.zip with TRWP twrp-3.0.0-0-ether
When I was flash xposed, the screen showed:
Updating partition details...
...done
Full SElinux support is present

Sometimes I was success to flash xposed but my robin is stop on the starting screen....
And I need to restore robin again to fix it
Does xposed support for Robin yet ?
Or I was wrong in step?

I just used the v80 file from xposed thread. You need to be rooted first.

Same Software as yours.

It is not working on my devise by this way.
Would you please upload your rom backup which is rooted and installed xposed ?
Thanks a lot !!!
I was success and following step can fix it in my case,
1. Wipe device
2. Restore hole ROM that deadman96385 provided
3. Restart system until you can see the android home page
4. Reboot to recovery, root and wipe cache then reboot device
5. Check the SuperSU is working or not. If yes, go next step
6. Reboot to recovery, restore the boot and system (without system image) then install xposed v80 and wipe cache
7. Reboot device and enjoy it ← I was stock on boot screen in this step, so I get into the recovery and restore the "boot" only.
Posting here in case anyone's had the same experience.
Tried flashing Xposed twice now. Both times everything seems fine, but then I try opening a few system apps and I get force closes everywhere. Namely:
- Calculator
- Contacts
- Downloads
- Bluetooth (specifically toggling it from quick settings)
It's very frustrating. Tried wiping dalvik/cache again, force stopping, clearing app data for the problem apps etc. No luck.
With the latest update I used the system images to flash back to stock and start again for another try and now I'm having the exact same problem yet again. Has anybody else seen the same or knows how to fix this?
Note: Everything works perfectly fine apart from these few system apps which break. Xposed functions as it should.

So I fixed mine. This is what I did.
Used the Xposed uninstaller to uninstall Xposed.
Rebooted.
Installed Xposed APK
Enabled "Enable su during boot" in SuperSU
Reinstalled Xposed framework (I am using v81 arm64)
Rebooted and all apps work. Mine took a very long time to rebuild all android apps but now it works...

Funny thing! Finally did a full wipe of my device because not being able to use TWRP for anything (i.e. couldn't even remove an old backup) was getting to me. So I actually had to uninstall xposed once I got everything running in order to get into snapchat.
Upon reinstallation, the two apps that refused to work were calculator and downloads (both crashing upon immediate launch). So to look into this problem, I didn't wipe cache/dalvik again which could be a major problem to this. I'll update as my applications get 'optimized' and will report back once all is said and done. For some reason I have a feeling this has a lot to do with not wiping the cache(s) as it leaves behind some old files. Considering the fact 99% of the time for flashing you should wipe the stuff anyways, I think this may be the problem. If this doesn't work I'll follow your response you did!
