I have rooted and installed custom Roms on my wifes KF and mine and it worked flawlessly. So i assumed i could root my co-workers also. (FAIL)
So i loaded up KFU installed TWRP first. stuck on splash screen, conducted a hard reset and then tried to root. Then it stuck on "attempting to remove root checker" Waiting for Device. and reset again.
Now it reboots though FFF boot loader and then again straight to TWRP. After much reading and trial and error i have (i think ) flashed an up date using adb push C:\kfu\software\update.zip\ /sdcard/ line command but the file is not in the sd card parition of twrp
i have identified the boot mode as obviously 5002 recovery should i be in 4002 fastboot for that to work?
this is a two part thread. adb works fine and the kindle is recognized as a device but i am unable to access the files on it.....
just use mount and put this rom on instead http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439916 select mount make sure there are no checks in the boxes of system and data then hit the big button transfer this rom (not the alt version) to the sd card but dont put it inside any folder then umount flash it and enjoy.I have seen more people screw up by trying to flash update.zip not always a good idea unless you know what your doing..

fastboot isnt for flashing roms and if thats the file path where you placed the rom.zip then its right but you dont need to be in fastboot you need to be in twrp to flash the rom you mis spelled software

also the easiest way to set the correct file path is to type
Code:
adb push
then drag drop the file to the terminal this will place the file path then add /sdcard

BIG THANKS ThePooch
mounted the sd card to pc loaded files and i am rooted with a custom rom!!!
very good your set next time you go to recovery perform a backup as well as remember this is the only rom you can flash without wiping... next one you will need to wipe factory reset, cache, dalvik and system.... of course all after a backup...
Dang, I messed up, please help
Dumb ass me I accidentally grabbed an M7 ROM file and flashed that on my M8 by mistake, and of course it just hangs out the white HTC start up screen.
Now WTF do I do ? I can still get to the fastboot, and Recovery is still accessible.
And no I don't have a backup yet, I should know better. So, is there a way to put the correct file on my /sdcard while in Recovery ?

Download an M8 ROM, use adb to push it when in TWRP, flash it (and don't do it again!)

I am sort of a newb here, and shouldn't ask, but how do I push it through ADB again ? I know, I'm a dumbass here
but when I am in command prompt and I type adb sidelaod insertcoin_sense6_m8-2.5.0 nothing happens, just says is not a recognized command
1. You have to have the ROM in the adb folder (if it's not set up in your system path)
2. The command is 'adb push ROM.zip /sdcard' (I think, never had to do it myself) whilst connected in TWRP
im no pro but ill try my best
you can open cmd
type: adb push (drag and drop the rom in the cmd) should be like C:/user/blabla.... then press enter and wait till it push the rom
or (not sure if supported on TWRP)
plug the sd card in an adapter and connect it to ur pc, copy the rom to the sd card. put back the sd card in the m8. when you go in the recovery(make sure sd card is mounted) choose install rom, all internal folders will show up, press the first thing up which is (/, back, or device (should be 1 of them cant really remember)) not sure my friend but from there you can find your sd card and flash the rom.
and don't call ur self a dumb ass we all do these mistakes at least I did it and one one thing always make a backup of a running rom so if anything goes wrong you can restore.
gd luck
TWRP does support it. Misread.. my bad, TWRP does not support mounting your phone as a storage device but does work fine for adb push.
Lol. I'm sorry but I'm laughing while reading this thread.. Hope you get it working dude.. Lol

Here this is very easy. Download a Rom. Go to recovery. Don't do anything in recovery.
Adb push Rom.zip /sdcard/
Go to wipe, factory reset, then flash Rom. It will be in sdcard directory.

Btw turn off screen timeout in twrp. After push command your prompt will hang. No percentage or anything. Wait till prompt gives confirmation. 1.5 gigs takes around 400-500 seconds.

I agree with this but I suggest wiping system as well as factory resetting. While most roms installers do Wipe system already, why not take the extra second and make sure it's done.

I was trying to help a friend install Kit Kat on his device, we followed the guide to root his Kindle Fire here at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire/development/how-to-kindle-fire-1-update-6-3-3-t2814955 as well as sd_shadow's video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqY5AUcf0Vk&index=2&list=PLx4mdsajQ2fW9gjN5BQti-8YM5F8xNV2W) and this is the link the the instructions that I used to try and flash KitKat onto the device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671619. I was able to get through the instructions for rooting the tablet, but something went wrong when I was following the instructions to get his tablet running KitKat. I used v2.04 for the bootloader (it was the version that was being used in sd_shadows' video on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_poieP0ruI&feature=youtu.be) ) and I also used otter x twrp version 2.7.0.0 (for the same reason that I used v2.04 for the bootloader). The bootloader flashed fine, but it just kept rebooting whenever we would try to put it into recovery mode to flash the new version of twrp. I tried converting from Amazon partitions to Otterx and back as well as EMMC corruption fix (yeah, I know it was very stupid, I will own up to that). Now all that the device will do is boot into fasboot mode whenever you try to boot into recovery or into the ROM (I figure that it is trying to tell you to use fastboot to flash a new recovery image onto the device, sort of like the "forced download mode" that Samsung Galaxies can go into when nothing else is working correctly, so at least it boots on and is trying to help me fix it right? THe only problem is adb and fastboot do not recognize the device, my computer still recognizes it as a the way that it should when it is in fastboot mode (Android ADB Interface), but the device still cannot be interacted with and I do not know why (I have the kindle fire adb drivers installed). My friend is not upset that he cannot use his kindle (he never used it much anyways) but I would really like to know what happened and what I will need to do in order to fix my mistakes.
you tried ?

I turned it on. In the bootloader menu I seleted "RECOVERY MODE", it booted into fastboot mode. I plugged it into my computer and opened the command prompt. In the command promt I entered "cd\adb" then I entered fastboot devices (like you said to), then the it said D01EC0A014820PK1 fastboot. What exactly does that mean? Is this device fixable?
If you get a code back like that it means drivers are good, and kindle is receiving commands, that is good

I have an update, I was able to successfully flash otterx-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery onto his tablet. I converted to otterx partitions beforehand (does that make a big difference? I am able to boot the tablet into the boot menu and then boot into recovery w/o problems. . I am wondering, what now?

I would download
zip-otterx-twrp-2.7.1.0-recovery.zip, and otterx-u-boot_v2.05.zip, push them to sd card , and install them in TWRP
redo the wipes, pick a otter x rom, download it, push it, and install.

You could back up any important information you had, format the phone and then sideload either the stock firmware (available from Asus) or the pre-rooted images available here.

Just hard reset or complete wiping of cache, dalvik, data, root and then reload the stock/pre-rooted ROM?
It's what I would try.
Download these, if you don't have them:
Intel USB Driver
ADB & Fastboot Tool
and either stock ROM from Asus or
if you prefer, the same latest ROM pre-rooted from here. Make sure you have the ROMS in your platform-tools folder of the adb/fastboot tool you downloaded.
Once you have everything you need:
Restart your phone and hold volume up to enter fastboot/bootloader.
Test the connection from your pc adb/fastboot terminal by typing: fastboot devices. You should see numbers and device listed. If not, double check your driver installation and try again. Once the connection's established,
Enter the following fastboot commands:
fastboot format system
fastboot format cache
fastboot format data
Once completed, you have two methods to install the ROM of your choice. You can unzip the pre-rooted rom and install each partition individually. Note, you need to unzip system.img into the folder with the other img's. Once again, be sure to copy these img's to the platform-tools folder of the adb/fastboot tool. These fastboot commands are:
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Once completed, use the volume selection menu to do a normal boot into Android, and setup from there.
Alternatively you could sideload the Asus ROM from adb in recovery. To do this, use the volume selection menu to do a reboot into recovery mode. In recovery, select install update from ADB. In your adb/fastboot terminal type:
adb devices (to check connection)
adb sideload (either drag and drop the ROM or enter the /path)
Once it loads, reboot into system, and setup from there.
Please do research this and make sure this is what you want to do. I hope this helps.
Edit: I know these instructions can be found elsewhere, but I couldn't in good conscience advise someone to wipe their phone and not help them. I'd never ask someone else to do something I wouldn't do.
Thanks a ton mate

If you have been using the phone as an ordinary consumer, I would suggest to get a replacement if that's within your entitlement. Just my personal opinion.

No last_kmsg to share, so will keep a watch on it for now...
Edit: happened a second time, this afternoon. Maybe I will upgrade to 2.19.40.22, or at least install TWRP to see if I can grab a last_kmsg (if I can find it) to see what's going on..

I had 2 random reboots on the 2gb/16gb version, but I think it was USB cable related. I'd plug the phone into the car and do something fast and then lock it, POOF! Reboot. It hasn't happened in awhile though and I believe I did an OTA update afterwards.

Plug phone into PC and type - adb reboot bootloader , this should enter fastboot mode then use the adb commands to flash the firmware which should be adb sideload oxygenos.zip just obviously rename the OTA zip file to oxygenos before running the command... Hope this helps buddy.

Hi, if you hold down volume up and power button for at least 20 seconds and release, make sure you have downloaded universal adb drivers and op3 drivers also, when you have these run the tool, the tool I originally downloaded was corrupt, the unbrick tool must have the system.img, recovery img etc.... For it to work, you will know when it's connect as one line in the programme will change. I can send you the files needed if you send me your email address.

I've installed this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
then manually booted the phone into fastboot mode
in the directory of Minimal ADB and Fastboot i've put the twrp-3.0.2-22-oneplus3.img and renamed the file into twrp
then i've flashed the file with this command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
once booted into recovery i've paste the cyanogenmod rom file into the phone and installed by the classic way (WIPE cache, sys, data, davilk//INSTALL cm file// OPTIONAL INSTALL gapps, kernel, su)
restart the phone, done!

Hi,
Are you running the command window from that folder where adb is? Push tab and right click mouse button or right on laptop to access run command option
