Please help; flashed wrong ROM - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dang, I messed up, please help
Dumb ass me I accidentally grabbed an M7 ROM file and flashed that on my M8 by mistake, and of course it just hangs out the white HTC start up screen.
Now WTF do I do ? I can still get to the fastboot, and Recovery is still accessible.
And no I don't have a backup yet, I should know better. So, is there a way to put the correct file on my /sdcard while in Recovery ?

Download an M8 ROM, use adb to push it when in TWRP, flash it (and don't do it again!)

I am sort of a newb here, and shouldn't ask, but how do I push it through ADB again ? I know, I'm a dumbass here

but when I am in command prompt and I type adb sidelaod insertcoin_sense6_m8-2.5.0 nothing happens, just says is not a recognized command

1. You have to have the ROM in the adb folder (if it's not set up in your system path)
2. The command is 'adb push ROM.zip /sdcard' (I think, never had to do it myself) whilst connected in TWRP

im no pro but ill try my best
you can open cmd
type: adb push (drag and drop the rom in the cmd) should be like C:/user/blabla.... then press enter and wait till it push the rom
or (not sure if supported on TWRP)
plug the sd card in an adapter and connect it to ur pc, copy the rom to the sd card. put back the sd card in the m8. when you go in the recovery(make sure sd card is mounted) choose install rom, all internal folders will show up, press the first thing up which is (/, back, or device (should be 1 of them cant really remember)) not sure my friend but from there you can find your sd card and flash the rom.
and don't call ur self a dumb ass we all do these mistakes at least I did it and one one thing always make a backup of a running rom so if anything goes wrong you can restore.
gd luck

TWRP does support it. Misread.. my bad, TWRP does not support mounting your phone as a storage device but does work fine for adb push.

Lol. I'm sorry but I'm laughing while reading this thread.. Hope you get it working dude.. Lol

Here this is very easy. Download a Rom. Go to recovery. Don't do anything in recovery.
Adb push Rom.zip /sdcard/
Go to wipe, factory reset, then flash Rom. It will be in sdcard directory.

Btw turn off screen timeout in twrp. After push command your prompt will hang. No percentage or anything. Wait till prompt gives confirmation. 1.5 gigs takes around 400-500 seconds.

I agree with this but I suggest wiping system as well as factory resetting. While most roms installers do Wipe system already, why not take the extra second and make sure it's done.

OMG Please Help me!

Ok I think I've actually broken my One X.
I was trying to put a default ROM back onto the system, I had my phone plugged into my PC, and "ran Android_Revolution_HD_Super_Wipe_One_X"
STUPIDLY I deleted a couple of files off the SD card in Windows Explorer, and now I cant get into recovery mode for ClockwordMod Recovery (as I'm assuming like an idiot I deleted it somehow)
Literally if I boot the phone it won't go past the HTC welcome screen.
I apologise profusely if this is already covered elsewhere - but I am an absolute noob and do not understand much of the jargon. I shouldn't have messed in the first place, I could cry
1. Fastboot and erase the cache, that will then allow you back into the recovery.
2. Fastboot the boot.img to your phone, as S-OFF won't allow the clockwork to flash it.
3. Don't panic. You can always recover the phone through Fastboot.
I should know, i was once in your position.
thanks for the reply,
I read about erasing the cache, but I have no idea how.
the guide just says type it into your pc
sorry again for being thick!
No problem.
Do you have fastboot open on your pc? if so.
Type : fastboot erase cache
Then download the Boot.img from ARHD, and follow the instructions.
Mike has included a .bat file that will automatically erase the cache and flash the boot image. I suggest going on to his forum and running the file.
I know I have downloaded it (I'm so lost) but the file in my downloads isn't something that opens a program?
Thanks a bunch!
It should have a .bat named install-boot, it shouldn't run a program, but open in CMD with options displayed on what to do next. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
ok I don't have a file called install-boot, just adb, fastboot and a few .dll files. both exe files flash cmd but it doesnt remain open.
any chance you can point me in the direction of this software as it would appear i have the wrong thing!

It seems like we need to get back to basics a bit. Are you familiar with MS-DOS? Those programs are not meant to be run from windows by clicking on them. They are run with command lines typed in a DOS type window that is opened when you type "cmd" into your search box in windows.

sorry, confusing fastboot and flashboot I think,
I'm being told that I'm missing adbwinapi.dll - looking into it
I'm no genius but I'm not usually this bad, just so worried - got the phone 12 hours ago, naturally feeling sick!
ok, followed the steps with flashboot (ran the cache delete and install-boot)
still not let into recovery. it goes past the htc sense screen, all black with a mobile with green arrows in a circle (like a sync) which eventually changed to a triangle with '!' in it.
what am i missing?
You can't delete recovery through windows explorer for the record.

That's stock recovery it sounds like. Just relock your bootloader ( fastboot oem lock) then run an ruu. Then once booted you can start all over.

sorry noob alert again: how do i do this?
Sounds like it has the stock recovery on it. Download the Cwm recovery and you should have a file called recovery.img. Place this file in the adb platform-tools folder. Go to that location in cmd prompt then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or you can find on xda via search one x all in one kit which if you download and open then put your phone in fastboot mode via bootloader will allow you to flash Cwm recovery and should do it for you

When you downloaded adb did you download the exe or zip version. If exe download zip version then extract it place the contents on your c drive then when using cmd use the cd commands to get to the correct folder.

ok, I have managed to boot a recovery (i think) and can now get into CWM, only problem now, is that my PC no longer recognises my phone in order for me to put any ROM files onto the SD card so that it can load them?
Yes Cwm does not support sd mount atm. I think you will need to refer to the post by someone saying relock bootloader and flash ruu. You will need to find and download the ruu that matches your device. ie network your on and country ur in. As I'm guessing you have deleted the rom image of the sd or nand backup?

Stuck at boot...how can i push files to the SD now

Something went wrong while flashing the Rom and like a miracle the zip file isnt on the SD anymore. After trying to reflash and seeing there is no more zip file i tried to reboot but now im stuck on the HTC one screen. How can i get the rom.zip to my sd without booting to normal system?
Go into fastboot open cmd window. Navigate to your android SDK folder type fastboot reboot recovery now you can adb push files to your sd card

One X stuck on "One X Beats Audio" Screen

I have a rooted One X, with Clockwork Mod and AHRD 6.0.0 Rom, I have a few mods (Rosie, 3-dot remover, status bar icon mods), and I haven't had a problem until tonight when I was playing with Font Installer, and I tried out a new font, and rebooted my phone, then my phone is stuck on the HTC One Beats Audio white screen, it's been about 20 minutes now, and I'm a bit nervous..
Yeah, you should do a nandroid backup because obviously it wont boot, and don't keep it on that logo to much or you will drain you'r battery.I've tryed an app that changes the fonts but also screwed up my phone so i had do to a restore.I don't know what app i can recomend that works so far.

You don't need a nandroid. Just get into boot loader and use ADB push to push any rom to your virtual SD card then you can install it through CWM recovery. Don't forget the boot.img as well.

When I 'adb device' on the PC, it says error: device not found?
Try this, you don't need to push anything, this command will open your sdcard in windows, put your rom.zip in, close the folder and flash through recovery.
In fastboot:
fastboot boot custom-recovery.img
adb shell
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0p14 > /sys/devices/platform/fsl-tegra-udc/gadget/lun0/file

Think I hard bricked my GNEX

I was trying to install a new rom but I wanted to reformat my sdcard first. I planned on reformatting, mounting the sdcard so my pc would pick it up, moving the rom I chose to the freshly formatted sdcard, then flashing the rom. I started by doing a full wipe of everything, then wiped the internal sdcard. The problem is when I try to mount the sdcard to transfer files nothing happens. I tried doing a restore using odin but it gets stuck at setup connection. Is there anything else I can do or is it completely bricked?

I'm not the guy who can tell you what you need to do, but I will tell you that I have read other posts by people in your position. There are ways to push the necessary files to your phone, either toolkits or command prompt type setups, sorry but that's all I have. Google is your friend though. Galaxy Nexus toolkit, start with that, it's around here somewhere

You cannot mount the sd on the gnex through recovery. There is no SD to mount.
To move a file to your phone you must push it with adb

Have you installed adb drivers? You probably should have done this already, unless you used a toolkit to unlock and root...
To install drivers, download the naked driver located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20058157&postcount=1
Then, follow this guide to install them correctly.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29044502&postcount=735
If they are set up correctly you will be able to push the rom to your internal storage booted in recovery with adb. A list of adb commands is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812959
If you aren't comfortable with that I recommend that you flash the stock images to your phone with fastboot following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
This should be all the info you need. I'll be around to answer questions you may have. Just post them here.
Good Luck.

The Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, which uses adb to push files to the phone. It gets about halfway through the process then fails because it says Im using an insecure bootloader
None of the info I gave you has anything to do with the toolkit. If you want to use it I cannot help you. Sorry. If you want to read my thoughts about toolkits check my sig.
However, If you follow what I posted in post #7 I will help you though the process as long as it takes.

I cant follow the guide you linked to install the drivers, because it instructs me to enable usb debugging...I have no rom installed on my phone so I cant enable it.
OK. I'm not sure if you can install the driver without debugging activated. But, I know you can install the fastboot driver when booted in the bootloader because I have done it.
1) Boot into the bootloader. (power + vol. up and down)
2) Connect to your pc
3) Open your device manager and you should see "android 1.0"
4) Right click on that and choose update driver.
5) Choose install from my computer and then install the naked driver.
6) Click done and then it should show Galaxy Nexus Bootloader Interface.
You will now be ready to flash the stock google image. Follow this guide.
You'll be up and running again. You can then flash a custom recovery and ROM if you so choose. OR just roll with stock.

You're supposed to navigate to the location where it is using CMD and do commands from there.

I appreciate all help.

So happy i got my phone un bricked.
Why would you want to sideload a ROM? I thought you could only sideload apps.
Nowhere in the install instructions does it say to sideload.
Reboot into recovery and install the CM11 zip file as normal, do not sideload, follow the instructions on the first post to install correctly.

Don't use side load. First clear cache, go to boot loader
fastboot erase cache
load twrp and don't do anything. on your computer
adb push rom.zip /sdcard/
This will push the rom to your phone. After initiating the command wait for the prompt to come back up so you know the full rom transferred. It takes a while. 400+ seconds for 1.5 gigs. Once prompt is back up, go to wipe and click on advanced, choose dalvik, cache, system, data. Do not select internal storage. Wipe. Go to install and choose the rom you pushed over. Let me know your outcome.

3 posts in 10 min and you fixed it? You should get rid of the toolkit and learn a couple adb/fastboot commands. They are very simple to use and once you understand them, you can get your phone out of almost any so called brick.
So you can boot into twrp? If so it's not bricked. The toolkit probably isn't doing the full transfer for some reason. Just go into twrp advanced settings and select adb sideload. Then use adb to sideload the rom. First place the ROM zip in you abd folder on the computer. Then you choose the sideload option in recovery and connect the phone to the computer. Now type in adb devices to make sure it's connected. Once it shows as connected type adb sideload filename.zip
Replace filename with the actual name of the zip file when sideloading the file. Once it's completed the file will be on the root of your internal storage. Now flash the zip and hopefully all goes well
