well today we supposedly got the JB update for our unbranded onex,we had to force the update while vodafone released it also for branded devices without having to force it.Given JB has been out since june then this is shocking really 6 months to release it on the same day as the networks to me is not acceptable, will think long and hard over my next phone purchase.Whats your views?

Should probably be in the Discussions thread mate.
Also reported (if unhappy they have customer services who are trained to be flamed)

Enough people have groaned about this issue and it probably won't change, the mods closed the OTA thread on several occasions because of this and people were banned for flaming each other on XDA
I admit the timeframe sucked arse royally but this was covered plenty of times before
Also judging by the amount of new bases coming out of the maximus thread, they had alot to sort out

I'm far from making any false sensations. Maybe only branded version comes in may, maybe not. We'll see.
Enough with these rumors, it'll come when it'll come. Otherwise it's setting people up for disappointments.
It is not confirmed that Xperia s jellybean update will come to everyone in may,for example the galaxy note is updated in some countries but according to this carrier the jb update for galaxy note is expected to release in may

Xperia S 6.1.A.2.45 - v. 17 Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
6.1.a.2.45 is ICS!!
WE CANNOT BE SURE THERE IS MISMATCH WITH SW VERSION OR ANDROID VERSION!

I guess that is software version of current sw and that is planned to upgrade to JB in week 17. I bought phone in Sweden and 6.1.A.2.45 is latest software for that country.
I really do like Sony products (my Xperia S will be a solid phone for a few years atleast), but the way Sony is releasing updates to our phone is just sad. It's not like Samsung which has gazillions of phones and i would image they'd have some problems in releasing updates in time for all their models.
Good thing that community is ahead and has a lot of 4.1 ROMs and a few based on 4.2. +1 for xda devs :victory:
Another speculation/rumor thread? With all due respect this is ridiculous. An admin clearly stated that these (future) threads are to be locked

What do you think are the chances are of Sony releasing jb 4.4 for our devices I mean our devices would be more than enough to handle it.
What do you guys think?
Would it still be possible even though Qualcomm has stopped support for S3 snapdragon chipsets?
None!

i think the same, there are no chance of getting android 4.4 kitkat.at the most we may get 4.2 or 4.3 jelly bean but there are only 2% chances :fingers-crossed: lets hope for the best.but we may get the taste of android 4.4 by great xda developers with less feature that depend on any new type of hardware
That's the weird thing 4.2 & 4.3 are said to be more hardware intensive than 4.4 and it is most unlikely we will get them for our devices.
Yet a lot of websites mention its likely that 4.4 will hit the Xperia family including the S.
What is also been said is 4.4 will or has been designed to run on aged out devices from:
512 RAM
Single low clock speed processors
And our phones come in the mid range of the Xperia family.
Which exceed the suggested minimum basic specs nneeded.
I wish Sony could just say yes or no wether it was possible as I don't want to upgrade as its only been 6 months since I got this device it's ggood but I was surprised how quickly this was shunned and newer devices came out from Sony.
When I see Z1 released with 4.2.2, 4.4 for XS is just a dream.
Sony must sell Z1 as new flagship and it certainly won't update and support 2011/12 device anymore.
I would like that, of course but that won't happen.
I'm trying to find unlockable Z1 in Croatia - I really like that device.

Hmm...
Screen isn't really bad it's great HD screen but some users reported that they have that stupid yellow tint over screen.
And that's extremely annoying from Sony.
I'll buy it but only and if I can check it first (I already arranged that).
There's great little piece of software for screen testing so I'll use that.

you will receive even 5.0 if came out.. But stability may be problem.
Anyway, i am on the way to upgrade to Z1.
I believe 4.4 will come some time later.
Some expert in XDA will make it. But Sony wont
remember snapdragon has stopped supporting s3 cpu that's why there's no kernel for jb 4.2 and 4.3
yeah experts in XDA are making it now but i dont think sony cares about it
Our lovely Xperia S is now an orphan. Only users care about it
The performance can definietly do 4.2 4.3 or 4.4, but sony just want us to buy new phones
I saw this in some site.. Can someone translate this.. I think we may get 4.4.. :silly:

Why must there be? There are unofficial versions, just use those. Are you expecting Sony to keep every single phone they ever released up to date? There must be hundreds by now (okay that was a hyperbole, 48 according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Xperia), noone can keep up with that. If you must blame anyone or anything for the short while that phones are getting updates, blame Android because it's so hard to install on hardware (compared to more classic PC OS's like Windows and Ubuntu/Pick-Your-Favorite-Linux-Distro). Not even the Galaxy Nexus got an update to Android 4.4, and if there was one Nexus that was most like our Fuji-phones it was that one. So if our generation's Nexus isn't even getting any updates anymore, how do you expect a non-Nexus device to get that update.
Seriously, I don't like this either, so ever since KitKat I haven't run a stock ROM. Now you've learned that if stock updates are important to you, you should get a Nexus or a Google Play Edition device. Sony has been known not to be very good in providing long term updates ever since the Xperia X10 (their very first Android phone). And if you can't afford to get a new phone every 2 years (because that's how long it'll be relevant), you should stop being so sensitive about updates and be happy with what you have.

Best not buy a HTC, support isn't great there either. The One X(L) isn't going beyond Android 4.2. If this is important to you, there's only q Nexus, a Google Play Edition phone or maybe a Motorola Moto X but we still have to see how long Motorola is going to support phones now they're part of Google.
And indeed we wouldn't be much without Rayman or bilchen. But it's like this for the vast majority of Android devices.

had some on 4.3, but with 4.4 I have too many to be stable as dayly driver.
i guess they all use the same kernel (open semc), that could explain why the all have it?
but... why do some people claim to have no reboots, and others have em 'all the time'?
i'm now on nature rom (4.1) and no problems at all, it's a great rom, but i really like 4.4 as well.
will there be a stable kernel/version soon?

second, the galaxy nexus didn't get 4.4 because of Texas instruments (supposedly) and as long as other oems continue to update it means it's possible and we have every right to complain about it

Answered my own question.
I personally don't like these small updates. Why Sony keeps releasing a lot of small updates to an outdated version of Android instead of focusing giving us KitKat, which our phone is more than capable of running?
Take a look at Xperia L, for example, that phone is identical to ours (the only difference being internal memory and main camera) and was released with Android 4.1. They got a major update to Android 4.2.2 and now all they get are a lot of small updates and nothing more. I mean, Xperia L is veeeery similar to Xperia M, so why they didn't get an official 4.3 or 4.4 update too?
If this history of updates repeats with Xperia M, we'll be stuck in Android 4.3 forever. Sony will keep releasing small updates to us instead of bringing new versions of Android and when our phone support ends we will depend only of custom ROMs, not to mention Xperia M dual users (like me) that need to choose between having second SIM functionality or using a custom ROM to get KitKat

I agree with you bro..., Sony is just irritating the user with these small updates and even those updates aren't checked properly before they are released., those updates are released to fix a bug, they do fix it but the problem is that they are creating a new bug..
And bro I read somewhere that xperia m both single and dual won't receive Kitkat, and it seems that we ll be stuck with 4.3 forever unless we use unofficial roms.. I think that this ll be the case for all the Sony midrange phones....
I am a great fan of Sony, but now I am starting to hate it...
