Kernels. How to?? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi there! Willing to pay for services.
Im running T-Mobile GS4 on Pacman 4.4.2 with the latest cm11 nightly build and nb4 baseband.
I want to overclock, and learn the other benefits from using a custom kernel. My current kernel is of course custom. Its a cm nightly flashed with the ROM. But I want more features. At least to overclock.
Will someone suggest a kernel, or a direction within the forums? Thank you

Try KT. It has options in Kweaker to select the performance you want.

Yes, but you won't be able to just restore the kernel from the nandroid. You will have to restore the entire nandroid backup.
Conversely if you ever want to revert to the CM stock kernel without restorign your whole backup, just reflash the same version of the ROM you already have. It will restore the stock CM kernel and change nothing else.

[Q] cm10 safe kernel

Is it safe to use the baked in cm10 kernel to restore a cm10 backup?
It should be safe. I know the previous builds had a bug where it would reboot during a restore or a backup. I read that the bug has been eliminated and all should work well. That was on phantoms cm10.

[Q] Problem with kernel and booting up.

Hello. So I tried to install a Franco kernel and it didn´t go well. Now my GNex won´t boot-up. It have happaned before with franco kernel. Then I reinstalled ROM and had to wipe all data. So my question: is there any way to get my device to bootup without reseting. Fortunately I have made Titanium backup so everything isn´t lost.

Its a AOKP rom and I don´t know the exact kernel because I downloaded it with the franco.kernel app. The app said it´s the latest and stable version. ( I have tried to install different kernels with Nexus Root Toolkit.)
Be aware that 4.2.2 kernels are not compatible with 4.2.1 or lower ROMs.
The latest franco APP 8.8.4 will install a 4.2.2 kernel.
If you did that, you have to re flash other compatible kernel .

there should be a boot.img inside the zip file for the rom you are on. pull that and flash it in fastboot.

Flash this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28399829
It's kernel related. You have to find kernel that support higher overclock.

There is various kernels in the Original development thread that support overclock.
Make sure yo read the OP and figure out which is best for you and your phone.

Could be a few issues.
You could be on an old version of JellyBam that does not use the 3.4 kernel. You also could have downloaded the wrong kernel from the page linked. If you could give us your ROM version that would help.
Its 7.5.0

Kernels are flashed in recovery, not Odin. The problem may be the recent display changes in KT's kernel. You may want to check his thread for an earlier build (pre 4/19) before the display commits were added.

correct. flash his 4/11 release.
and if you ever find yourself in a bootloop from flashing the wrong kernel, just flash the correct kernel in recovery. wipe cache/dalvik, fix permissions and reboot. good to go without having to restore or reset anything.
also, i'd stick with ROMs in this forum that are supported by the dev.

[Resolved]Can you use Clockworkmod recovery to flash a kernel instead of Odin?

Coming from a mytouch 4g, I'm not too up to speed on flashing my t989.
I have the stock tmobile jellybean rom on here, and I'm trying to flash the Team Infamous Kernel.
So since I have Clockworkmod Recovery on here, can I just flash the kernel .zip and call it a day?
Short answer yes.
Long answer make sure you're on the latest cwm. Also if it is an Odin package then no. But I'm sure its a flashable zip so yeah. Should be good.
Also make sure its for uvmc6 and not aosp/older firmwares.

Infamous s2 isn't a kernel, its an entire ROM. The arc kernel is the kernel included. Make sure to wipe data/factory reset and cache before you install the ROM. Now there may be an arc kernel exclusive. But I don't know

Sorry, should have mentioned that if you scroll down a bit they offer links for just the kernel and state it works with all TW JB roms as well as stock rom.

Then you should be fine. Just follow the typical steps. You don't really have to wipe anything, just make a backup just in case

Go get TWRP, its more frequently updated and has better flashing scripts, better wipe capability, and above all, its all touch screen, no more button presses lol, I guess its all preference though

+1; twrp is the way to go. But if you want, you can use cwm. But honestly twrp is much better once you get used to it.

Clockwork touch is more polished IMO, since I've used both, I like the file browser on TWRP though, my only reason for sticking with CWM is because all my nandroids are in that format.

Help: Flashing Custom Rom t999L

I have the t999L and I was jusy wondering is there a certain way to flash roms on this particular device? Do I need to reflash a kernael or modem, raido after a flash mosy roms on here is for the t999 plz help
Sent from my SGH-T999L using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You should just be able to flash t-999 ROMs, of course you'll have to do a full wipe before switching to different ROMs. No need to flash kernel or a modem when flashing another ROM. I would stay away from any modems or radios unless it is specifically for the t999L it could brick the phone.

You should be fine, if your going to flash a custom ROM such as cm, don't forget to download the Google apps. Boot into recovery and do a full wipe, flash ROM then flash Google apps then wipe cache and dalvik cache then reboot.

Ummm. Ok, can you go into detail??
Seriously though, this is what I created the thread for. This is the type of question you could just post there rather than starting another thread. And if there is something missing, or needs further explanation.....well, I kind of need people to let me know. What details exactly were you looking for? And just to show you, this is covered there, I am directly copying just a very small portion of what I have there. If something here is not detailed enough, please mention it in the thread. Thx!
Flashing ROM's To Your T999L
You CAN flash any of the ROM's which are built for the original T999. Pretty much any ROM you find in our Development Section should work on the T999L.
There are, however, just a few small things that you need to remain aware of.
TouchWiz ROM's
Touchwiz ROMs are those based on the Stock, Shipped firmware (The software that came on your device)
If the ROM you choose includes a kernel, everything should work and you have nothing else to worry about.
If it does NOT come with a kernel, you will most likely have to flash either the UVDMD5 kernel, or the UVAMB7 kernel + Modules. More information and both can be found in my Development thread.
Either kernel should work just fine. You are free to choose either one. If you run into issues with one, please share the information so everyone else can benefit, and also to confirm for you that it is a kernel problem.
CM / AOSP / AOKP
Some of these roms will not flash without editing the updater-script. As these roms progress, the devs should add the T999L making this more of a Non-Issue.
If you get a Status 7 error, you will most likely need to follow these steps to make it flashable.
Unzip the ROM.
Browse to and open the updater-script (use Notepad+++
At the top you will see the 'Asserts'
You have 2 options:
1. Remove all of the Assert lines.
2. Add another assert. If the current ones are using d2tmo, add d2ltetmo. If using UVDMD5, add UVAMB7.
Save and rezip the file. (delete the signatures if present)
Flash ROM.
