Issue in 4.4.2 - Samsung keyboard misses comma key - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using 4.4.2 and I can not find comma key at here. It used to be here with 4.3. Does anyone has same problem with me? Is there any solution for this? My device was rooted. I want to keep samsung keyboard app 4.0 at this firmware and dont use another keyboard app. Maybe just modify some config file...?

Yes I know this but these methods make me to press 2 keys to get the comma and 1 more key to turn off the popup, so it is not convenient to use. By the old way on 4.3 or 4.1 I just press 1 key to get the comma at the left of space bar.

Install the S5 keyboard and you will have comma and other punctuation back to your bottom left key!
Check Nitol's thread in themes and apps forum.

Wrong, none of the samsung 4.4.2 keyboards have that feature, one has to press an extra key no matter what to use the comma.

I can guarantee that I am using it... install it and you will see for yourself! If you don't like the new look you can always revert to stock.

if you press the dot key you'll have the " . , ?" in suggested words area....

You are right ,my apologies ,I somehow never noticed there was a comma along with other shorcuts on the bottom left key that one could set according to their choice be it Voice typing, smileys, comma etc.Thank you

Today I tried to use s5 mod keyboard but it forced close. I reflashed stock keyboards but it was the same problem. So I reflashed my stock 4.4.2 firmware and restored Samsung keyboard app from Titanium Backup and my comma is restored too. But this comma is just temporary because if I change comma to another key then comma will be gone forever.

I believe you can set the key on the bottom left to comma.

[Q] How the @#[email protected] do I start a text with the character "w"

Somebody please tell me how I tell android to NOT put that stupid cursor marker thing over my "w" every time I start typing a text! This is driving me nuts. Every time I go to enter text into my phone for any reason that stupid marker covers my w and then when I tap the w or start a swype with w it doesn't recognize that I'm trying to use the bloody "w"!

I agree it should be up above the text not keyboard, but you can wait till it goes away or hit any key then backspace and it'll go away

I use the ics keyboard and I don't have that problem

Use a keyboard like Swype where that cursor only covers the word selection.
I am using swype with no problem.

Swype is what I'm using and I don't want to have to sit and wait 5 seconds for that stupid thing to disappear. So the only way to fix is to replace the keyboard? Can I just get ICS keyboard from the market?

Yes you can. Another option (similar to Swype) is Touchpal keyboard...I have found this to be the best so far.

Do you guys have it set up like the split screen thing? I tried this for about a day, and just couldn't get used to it. I felt about as smart as a...well, you get the idea.
I'm a swiftkey x kind of guy now, but TouchPal got good reviews around here so I wanted to give it a shot. Maybe it's time to revisit...
Well, I just use the hardware keyboard myself.

I agree that the marker being over the W is a pain. I have not found a way to disable the marker yet, or shorten it's existence.
The only work around I have for now is to hit the spacebar to make it go away immediately.
Hope that helps ...

[Q] CM10 JB Keyboard

Hello guys,
Anyone know how to get enable the top bar of actions on the JB keyboard that we had on the ICS keyboard.
It's tough to describe, but I mean the top bar that had the explanation mark, question mark, comma, etc...
See pic
Left is ICS with extra buttons on top of keyboard, and right is JB without.

Try it on your CM10, and report back please?

it also didnt work for me. i recently changed rom. in cm10, keyboard suggestion bar doesnt show, i think if you want a working suggestion/correction bar, then change rom. i am currently on xperia ice v3.1 stable version. keyboard correction/suggestion bar works. ^_^ i think since jellybean port isn't that stable like ics port, there might be some bugs to fix like that one. in the end, you have no choice but to change rom.

It is working. See the screenshot. Both the stock android or the AOSP android keyboard working.
You have to type first before the suggestions show up. Try to turn on the show suggestions and type a few words and it will show it.

new keyboard

I am trying to find a keyboard with both the letters and numbers on one screen. I need to be able to enter both without pressing symbol button or shift to change keyboards. Do you guys know any APK's or program that would allow this? I have tried swift key and perfect keyboard and they didn't work.
I don't know of anything like what you want, and this should probably be posted in the themes and apps section, or the question section, but definitely not the Development section.

Swiftkey works fine. What did not work for you?
I am curious too as to why SwiftKey doesn't work for you. If you long press on a key either the single additional options will post or like the below will happen. View attachment 1746389

This one has a free version, but I don't know if you can add the numbers on the front keyboard on the free version. I know you can on pro. It looks like the aosp keyboard. You of course can customize it. Its worth the $3.

Where is the overview (recent apps) screen in stock Lollipop v5.1.1?

I must be missing something but I cannot find the "overview" screen on my Note 10.1 (2014 edition) running stock Lollipop v5.1.1. When I say "overview" I am referring to a listing of all the recent apps I have ran, where you can drag to the left or right to close and app (if still running). I have also seen it referred to the "recent apps" screen.
I also have a Note Pro 12.1 also running stock Lollipop v5.1.1 and the menu button brings up the overview menu as expected. On my Note 10.1 2014 edition tapping the menu button brings up a display of the home screens with button to add widgets and wallpaper.
Any idea how to access the overview on the Note 10.1 2014 edition?

Just long-press the home button, it's been this way since the tablet came out. Samsung changed their physical button layout just after the Note 2014 came out so the menu button has been replaced with the recent apps one.

Thanks a bunch! That did it! Now I just have to figure out how to map that long press home action to the menu key.

Xposed additions. Root and Xposed needed
Or manually change the setting in the keyboard layout file. Easy to Google.

Microphone key for text messaging

Just got my Nexus 5x Thursday, love it except the one thing that will cause me to send it back on Monday if I can't figure this out.
In the default messaging app the microphone key is directly below the send key so every time I hit the microphone key with my fat fingers I hit the send key. I have yet to get the microphone to come up, the wife and kids can hit it just fine.
Question is can this microphone key be moved easily without having to buy some other keyboard app, rooting, or installing a custom ROM?
Navigate to the keyboard settings (from settings, or by holding the comma key then selecting Android Keyboard Settings (AOSP)) > Preferences ~ Voice input key.
Or use one of the many free keyboards. I sometimes use Swiftkey.

i don't think this is what OP is looking for, since this options just disables the button and doesn't move it. but it seems that this is the only option available influencing the button at all.
considering the 'send' button only shows up once there was an actual input and also not having any problems so far with my own big paws, the only suggestions i can make are:
-aiming lower on the button
-using voice input (only) from the start of the message
-try another app for a more intelligent positioning of the 'send' button (hangouts?)
-(temporarily) switching to voice-input as active keyboard

Thanks for the reply. That only removes the Mic key, doesn't give me the option to move they key to a different location (some place NOT by the send key). I have been trying the free keyboards but no luck so far.
Thanks again
