Can someone please point me to a ROM or mod that enables a stable, usable Tablet mode on my verizon galaxy nexus?
I know that I can change my dpi to 160 but I always get that system.ui crash.

Stick with 241 and you will be good to go. If you use something like NovaLauncher you can essentially get a nice tablet like UI going.

SystemUI crashes because you have navigation bar enabled (which tablets don't have). You can modify your framework-res.apk to hide the navigation bar (thread HERE) and use something like LMT launcher or button savior to get home/back/etc. keys. Then it won't crash anymore. I've done this and it works fine. If you are on the 4.0.4 verizon ROM, you can find the modified framework in the thread HERE (and you can find simple instructions to do it yourself) or flashable HERE.
Alternatively, I've read (but not tested) that adding the following to your build.prop will stop it from crashing at 160 dpi.
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

I have the Kang ROM with the latest Nova launcher. What settings do I need to enable to make it tablet-like?

Yes, I have that but it must be used with the right ROM in order to fully function like a tablet (landscape mode)

Perhaps I misunderstood what you meant then. I am running the 4.0.4 ROM with Franco's kernel and have Nova Launcher has my default. I have my LCD Density switched to 241 and can auto-rotate into landscape mode as well. Hope this helps.

How would I get my menu buttons (back, home, open apps) menu on the bottom in tablet (landscape) mode?
They seem to always be stacked horizontally on the right side while I am in landscape mode. I want them to be on the bottom (just like on a tablet).
This is what I want

I gave you your answer. Read my previous post. You just need to hide the navigation bar. I messed around with it on my phone running verizon 4.0.4 by just making the required change to framework-res.apk and changing the screen density to 160 dpi. It's simple and you don't need to be a 'developer'. You ask for help, but don't give any specifics on what ROM version you have. I linked you to 4.0.4 version. If you're not using that verizon ROM, post your framework-res.apk and I'll mod it for you. It literally takes about 2 minutes to do (counting the time to upload it as an attachment here).

I'm pretty sure aokp has the ability to hide the navigation bar already. Look through the settings. Hide it and then switch to 160 dpi.

I was doing the wrong option...
dumb me...
Thanks for all the help.
I finally got it working on my own.
One thing that remains and it's a biggie. I can't make or receive calls. The phone app crashes every time.
I did a lot of google searches and all the other devs are stuck at the same point.
However, I did find one dev in the Galaxy Note forums that made a ROM that supposedly works in tablet mode.
Any ideas?

Yeah unfortunately I haven't seen anything yet that forces the buttons onto the bottom. The likely reason for this is that the buttons would take up .25-.5 inch of screen real estate in landscape which would not be desirable at all.
I got it to work.
Here is what I had to do.
- Hide the nav bar using AOKP (builds 25 - 27 work)
- Change my dpi to 192 or less
-- This brought out the tablet interface (menu buttons on lower left). Notifications and time on the lower right etc
- Phone app would keep on crashing and I was unable to make or receive calls
-- Fixed this by downloading AOKP build 27 phone.apk for the HTC Incredible and replaced the phone.apk on my nexus. The reason why the phone app would crash was because of the dpi, so I had to find a lower dpi phone.apk.
Was then able to use all the basic functions of my phone including the market. However, the entire thing seemed a unstable (would have rom manager or systemUI crash randomly).
I'm giving it up for now. Hopefully some dev will see the value in getting this working and create a complete ICS rom for it.

Yes, I confirm that adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" to build.prop works as well.
I figured out that 180 dpi is the lowest you can go and not have the phone app crash. The launcher lags when running landscape though.

Many people reported the same issue.
To change the LCD density, you can directly edit the /build.prop file using root explorer (or any other file editor having r/w permission) or can use the tools something like rom toolbox.
Attached an example how to change lcd density using Rom Toolbox.
Thanks for the tips. One last question, do you guys have any perferred resolutions? I have been pushing 1200*720 but I feel like things are just a little too small and when the screen rotates the home screen looks fairly messed up, might just be golauncher though. Anyway, thanks again.

Just like you said, some of the launchers are not working well with high density. Even some Roms keep FC with non-standard densities.
I'm using go launcher and it's working pretty well with FC18/22 Stocked Roms.
Currently I'm under density 200 but 160 also works well.
Only one minor issue is, just few apps are not extended to full screen but that's ok to me. You may try several densities by yourself and find out which one best works for you.
[Update] I just did some test with 180 density, and it looked better than 200. All the widgets were correctly arranged on the screen and no broken widgets on go launcher. But the icon and letter sizes are too small for me, so I just keep using 200.

Check out LCD Density Modder to fix market compatibility problems (use 240 for the fake value).
Hey Guys
I am just wondering how to make stock applications working with Density set to STOCK 240.
I love the 240 density but Dialer/Dock Screen/Email/Stock Apps doesn't fits properly on screen.
Anyone know how can we fix it ? or we have to wait for a ROM who supports Multi DPI ?
Thanks In Advance.

For contacts you can use Go Contacts or RocketDial. I prefer RocketDial because it much powerfull and have many many option to configurate it. Both of them works excelent at all DPI, even at tablet DPI. S Note looks ok. Other apps from Samsung\Google I'm not using and deleted them. For email I prefer AquaMail, it's working on low DPI and have many options too, like on PC email clients.

Does anyone tried to bring N2 into 213dpi? Just curious if they just passed into Jelly Bean something like NEXUS 7 "half-tablet" UI. Can someone report what stops working on 213? I know apps might look bad, but as soon their will working there will be matter of time when somebody will just mod them. But what will FC?
I am still on N1 i know what does not work on 213 N1 ICS - but N2 will be here in about 2 weeks so already curious.

Anyone tried 213 or 160 ?
hi, I used rom tool box to changed dpi. then I fix the market permanently( still work when google play update) whith LCD Density Modder Pro. well.
with some hour to use this density. I can see some app don' fit nice(camera, phone, calculator, clock and multi window) all this application can be changed with some google play app, but the camera is really bad to lost it. ( Spen and all other thing work great with a new dpi)
then I try camera fx, very buggy with it. later camera didn't work. "echec appareil photo". I tried everything( factory reset, wipe all, format all) still failled to launch camera with stock and all other app.
Since I changed the note 2 in my store with an other.
I break the camera on the device but what is the reason????
density? camera fx? hardware problem?
Still want to change the dpi (so better) but I don't want to break the camera again and I am not really sure what is the probem...
need help

Maybe you can try to download an other Camera app.
already did. the camera is defenitly broken on the first galaxy note 2. And other camera app are bad compared to the stock.
does it possible to modded the stock camera app for other density? If yes, what need to change in the apk?

Any info on it ? As Samsung is still thinking about the full documentation release , It seems PA will take ages to out...
I can confirm that neither 213 or 160 gives you full "half-tablet" mode for all apps. Camera looks messed up.
On 160 SystemUI crashes and the lockscreen look changed (time and date to the left instead of centered). SMS does not have "half-tablet" mode but the settings menu does. Google Chrome has got tabs. Didn't check calendar but I assume it's "half-tableteted".
On 213 SystemUI does not crash. Lockscreen looks like default one (centered). SMS does not have "half-tablet" mode, niether does the settings menu or Chrome. Didn't check calendar but I assume it's not "half-tableteted".
Conclusion, only way to get to "half-tablet" mode right now is to go 160 DPI and then everything's really small and SystemUI crashes :/
To decrease T3's screen dpi.... Just head over to build.props can b found in root system.... Edit the build.props by adding a line at the end, type "ro.sf.lcd_density=280"
320 is the stock value
I found 280 is looking best...
Try..
Make sure to make a backup of ur build.props first

Look, I've just applied it on action 3 launcher, with the following settings. Looks like a tablet right now.
You can either apply on android settings or whatever you want.
images apears big.. any solutions
1. Settings.
2. System
3. About
4. Tap Build Number 10 times, until you are a developer.
5. System - Developer options
6. Drawing - Smallest Width #.
There are several guides on which DPI settings to use if you search, but I prefer around 600-640 to take advantage of the big screen. I hope this guide is helpful for some of you who weren't aware of this option. :highfive:

What DPI do you like? Lower?
I noticed today that I hadn't set the sizes in Display Settings first, to a smaller font, and then in developer options the DPI. The smaller font made a big difference, but is easy to overlook. I'm at 600 now, and everything works and looks fine. :cyclops:

This is where Huawei neuteres Android. Change the smallest width setting and it is reset every time you restart the phone. The Android System and some of the SystemUI elements don't even change when setting a higher number. Once you're rooted you're better off editing the build.prop in vendor and adding the qemu.sf.lcd_density=xxx line in to get everything to change like it's supposed to. Be careful not to go too low on the density or else EMUI glitches out to the point where your lockscreen will no longer function. It's one of the things about EMUI that really irks me and instead of Huawei fixing the issue they just seem to ignore it. That and not being able to move the wifi and data icons to the right where they should be.
We need root soon. Changing the width in developers options messes with some apps. Also, the navigation bar at the bottom doesn't change which blocks the exit button in my trading app. Quite annoying.
