One more reason to GO!!!! Go Contacts has Go Dialer included with works with any reasonable resolution (182-240) that LCD Density has on the Samsung Epic. Just replace the icon on your launcher with the Go Launcher Dialer and if you want Go Contacts and you are good to go. Go those of you who have balls of steel you can try a lower resolution but I won't I don't want to mess my phone up and have FC issues. I am happy I tried go launcher I am even trying go SMS and I have discovered it is way better than the stock SMS. But I will keep the stock SMS for MMS purposes. Since I heard that you need the stock SMS to send MMS messages. Plus I have a modified stock SMS that sends picture that are up to 5MB in size. I am happy I found the solution to my problem without have to create a theme which would take hours to do!!!
You'll need to contact the Creator, its apparent it doesn't fully support your choice of ROM

Custom theme for smaller screen density.

I click on the link and read all through the post another person goto it to work for their epic too. I have no problem getting it to work on my Samsung Epic. It works great for me. It works great just the dialer look funny. Can somebody create a flash-able dialer for this screen density or even a theme for this screen density.

That is cool I remember the touch pro 2 had a dialer file that you could alter and resize for different Rom builds. I was just wonder if you could do the same thing with android?
That would relate to the dialer.apk probably. Less then the whole "android os" itself

Some people can change the look of the dialer, color,
appearance, etc. So it is possible it is just having the know how and most importantly the time to do it.
I asked a similar question a while ago and got zero answers.
I'm suprised more people are not into changing the dpi of their screen. Default is annoyingly large.
I run at 182, the smallest it will run without fc's from contacts.apk

Yeah I hated that. 180 worked fine on 2.1. There needs to be a way to edit the Dialer.apk so the graphics show up normally. The same thing for the camera app.
How can we get people to like LCD Density.

If we can get enough people using LCD Density. Maybe somebody will make a theme for it that is between 182 and 186. If one of the themer can fall in love with is program we might have a chance.
I'm definitely looking for an answer to this also. Would be awesome for one of our devs to implement. Maybe if we shoot a pm to one of them.

Try Go Contacts with has a Go Dialer included it is free.
I found the solution to my problem. The program I use is called Go Contacts which has go dialer bundled with. Download on free application and get the second for free. You can't beat that deal!!!! I am also using go SMS. I wanted to go all GO but I like the launcher on Launcher Pro Plus better than Go Launcher EX. But that can change if the widget were more like HTC and if it had a scrollable dock.
Can someone please point me to a ROM or mod that enables a stable, usable Tablet mode on my verizon galaxy nexus?

Stick with 241 and you will be good to go. If you use something like NovaLauncher you can essentially get a nice tablet like UI going.

SystemUI crashes because you have navigation bar enabled (which tablets don't have). You can modify your framework-res.apk to hide the navigation bar (thread HERE) and use something like LMT launcher or button savior to get home/back/etc. keys. Then it won't crash anymore. I've done this and it works fine. If you are on the 4.0.4 verizon ROM, you can find the modified framework in the thread HERE (and you can find simple instructions to do it yourself) or flashable HERE.
Alternatively, I've read (but not tested) that adding the following to your build.prop will stop it from crashing at 160 dpi.
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

I gave you your answer. Read my previous post. You just need to hide the navigation bar. I messed around with it on my phone running verizon 4.0.4 by just making the required change to framework-res.apk and changing the screen density to 160 dpi. It's simple and you don't need to be a 'developer'. You ask for help, but don't give any specifics on what ROM version you have. I linked you to 4.0.4 version. If you're not using that verizon ROM, post your framework-res.apk and I'll mod it for you. It literally takes about 2 minutes to do (counting the time to upload it as an attachment here).

I'm pretty sure aokp has the ability to hide the navigation bar already. Look through the settings. Hide it and then switch to 160 dpi.

Thanks for all the help.
I finally got it working on my own.
One thing that remains and it's a biggie. I can't make or receive calls. The phone app crashes every time.
I did a lot of google searches and all the other devs are stuck at the same point.
However, I did find one dev in the Galaxy Note forums that made a ROM that supposedly works in tablet mode.
Any ideas?

Yeah unfortunately I haven't seen anything yet that forces the buttons onto the bottom. The likely reason for this is that the buttons would take up .25-.5 inch of screen real estate in landscape which would not be desirable at all.
I got it to work.
Here is what I had to do.
- Hide the nav bar using AOKP (builds 25 - 27 work)
- Change my dpi to 192 or less
-- This brought out the tablet interface (menu buttons on lower left). Notifications and time on the lower right etc
- Phone app would keep on crashing and I was unable to make or receive calls
-- Fixed this by downloading AOKP build 27 phone.apk for the HTC Incredible and replaced the phone.apk on my nexus. The reason why the phone app would crash was because of the dpi, so I had to find a lower dpi phone.apk.
Was then able to use all the basic functions of my phone including the market. However, the entire thing seemed a unstable (would have rom manager or systemUI crash randomly).
I'm giving it up for now. Hopefully some dev will see the value in getting this working and create a complete ICS rom for it.

I figured out that 180 dpi is the lowest you can go and not have the phone app crash. The launcher lags when running landscape though.

NEWS
Looking for a flashable ROM that does more than dropping you into tablet mode?
With little manual hacks and fixes we came only so far ... true hybrid mode with actual fixes and ICS-framework rewrites is being developed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619582
UNLOCK HYBRID MODE IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS MANUALLY
Note: If you followed all the steps and you get something else than what is shown in the snapshots above, please search the thread, many things have been answered a dozen times already. Also make sure you do a full backup before you attempt to change anything!
1. Change your DPI
Edit this line in your /system/build.prop: ro.sf.lcd_density=192
192 is for Galaxy Nexus only! You can calculate the magic value for your phone, the formula has been explained here.
2. Hide the Navigation-Bar and reboot
Add this line to your /system/build.prop: qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 and reboot
We have collected no experiences with hardware-button devices yet, if you're on such a device check out Xylograph's efforts
3. Drop a couple of apk's
They all belong to their respective owners
3.1-3.2: Use ADB or Root Explorer, do not install, just drop it into /system/app
If you encounter problems, go to CWM and wipe cache/partition & advanced/dalvik cache. Also wipe cache & data in Androids app manager (Settings/Apps/All/...) and push the apk's again
3.1 Nova Launcher: 1.1beta (still has some small blemishes) or our Hack (for now its closer to stock): Rapidshare, Mediafire
ICS launchers do have some issues with tablet mode, all except Nova
If Nova was already installed pre-installed, delete it before you push. In that case you might want to backup your Homescreens in Novas settings
I suggest you use a sane grid like 5x4, small margins for both width and height and persistant search bar on always
3.2 Hacked Play Market: Rapidshare, Mediafire
The old market gives you compatibility issues
Just backup the old one before you drop the hack (rename it to appname.apk.bak, appname can be either Vending or Phonesky, depends on your gapps package)
3.3 Keyboard: Play Marked
Androids standard keyboard has a weird sizing issue, it looks quite awful in tablet mode
1. download & install
2. rename /system/app/LatinIME.apk to LatinIME.apk.bak
3. Keyboard Settings/Advanced/Vibration Setting/10ms
More working keyboards:
Swype Beta
Swiftkey 3 Beta
Thumb Keyboard (paid App!)
HINTS
Go to Settings, Display, Font size, set it to Huge
AOKP: Uncheck the IME Switcher in UI Settings
CM9: Check "Auto Hide" in System/Statusbar to finally get real Fullscreen
Correct Wallpaper size + Template
You're on AOKP, troubled by button-spacing issues? Xylograph has found your fix
You're on AOKP, troubled by a crashing phone? Try this one: Rapidshare, Mediafire
CHANGELOG[/SIZE]
2.0: flashable ROM thanks to Zer0_Cool!
1.9: new keyboards up + IME switcher hint, thanks go to bill12690!
1.8: new google play fix, seems to find apps that it didn't find before, imdb for explample
1.7: nova spacing issues, better overscroll layout
1.6: nova optimized for "Huge" font settings / new experimental Google Play hack
1.5: fixed folder grid size / fixed app drawer layout / fixed dock divider height
1.4: nova 1.0.3beta instead of apex / app folders work! / grids/stacks work / no fixed grid, configure as you wish!
1.3: new phone.apk which works under aokp 4.0.4, thx to faunh for finding it!
1.2: market fix from lcd desity modder, thank you raubkatze for extracting it! ::]
1.1: apex v1.0.2beta / landscape works, dock excluded / optimized for settings/display/font-size: large
1.0: dock / normal sized icons / set apex into hybrid mode / phone.apk from aokp/droid incredible
This MOD looks awesome!
Thanks buddy!

no landscape in the launcher for now, just deactivate it. landscape for everything else is fine. i guess i'll fix it when i find the time. the dock has to be glued to the right side then, it should, in theory, not be so hard.
i did not experience data-drops until now. i can be reached just fine. i have to get back to my original country first and see if its an issue, sure hope not though. are you dead-sure it's not a radio/kernel/rom issue? by no means im an expert but in my naive mind i couldnt think of a reason why changing the dpi would make your signal drop.

No problems here with that. Did you push the phone.apk in the OP?
molesarecoming, no need to disable your navbar. Tablet mode does this automatically. I don't even have the option with Milestone 4 of ASOP and everything is just fine. And if people want even more room, all they gotta do is disable "show persistent search bar" in apex.
Also, imo no need to set your phone to always portrait. The app draw or home screen doesn't look perfect in landscape mode, but it's not all that bad. I have mine set to default which makes it only rotate in apps, never on home screen or app draw. (Not sure if that's what you meant) That's how I usually have things set anyway so it's perfect for me.
Been running this all day and I'm loving it!
Thanks again.

You need to use a hacked version of market/play store. I'm pretty sure there's a thread around here on xda with the necessary hacks for free or you can buy lcd density modder pro on play store which gives you access to a hacked version (both 'markets' accomplish the same thing from what I've read).
I'm excited for this one. Once this is easier to implement, i'll switch to this right away, best mod i've seen so far congratz!

go back to 320, force close market, delete cache and data, start it and press OK. go back to 192. it works, well, better but you still get that stupid message every now and then. but really it's their fault. it's easy to mod though, and there's been solutions for this.
install swype. it's the better keyboard anyway.

in the hack at least landscape kills it, the dock gets punched out by the divider.

i guess it can be modified, why not. trick it into believing the dpi of your device is 192. if you want you can have my apktool project (it took me days to figure out how to compile/decompile ics apk's without getting a crapload of error messages). with apktool you should be able to do this quickly. but as i wrote in the first post, if someone would invent a root-app that could individually set dpi for apps, it would do so much for us.
I've tried about half a dozen Jelly Bean roms and a rooted stock image but there's nothing out there that works with any LCD Density modders. I've been spoiled at 240 and cannot go back to anything else, does anyone know what the issue is? I'm assuming this is a Jelly Bean issue maybe?
I've been using "LCD Density Modder", "LCD Resolution (Root)" and "LCDDensity for Root" but they either don't work or will freeze when booting, they all work fine on ICS but none of them on JB, would love to switch to JB but I cannot stand the density - any help would be awesome!
thanks!
You could try this: [JB:CM10:HYBRD] PARANOIDANDROID [1.9.4a, True HybridMode, Size & UI on Per App Basis].
It's a CM10 based ROM that allows you to scale down everything in Android (apps, widgets, notification menu, every other system component) to either Phone (obviously default on galaxy nexus), Phablet (half way between phone and tablet), and Tablet.
This would be almost the same effect of changing the pixel density, but in my opinion it's even better.

Nothing hard editing the build.prop file, other apps are just doing the same.
Hey Guys
I am just wondering how to make stock applications working with Density set to STOCK 240.
I love the 240 density but Dialer/Dock Screen/Email/Stock Apps doesn't fits properly on screen.
Anyone know how can we fix it ? or we have to wait for a ROM who supports Multi DPI ?
Thanks In Advance.

For contacts you can use Go Contacts or RocketDial. I prefer RocketDial because it much powerfull and have many many option to configurate it. Both of them works excelent at all DPI, even at tablet DPI. S Note looks ok. Other apps from Samsung\Google I'm not using and deleted them. For email I prefer AquaMail, it's working on low DPI and have many options too, like on PC email clients.

Does anyone tried to bring N2 into 213dpi? Just curious if they just passed into Jelly Bean something like NEXUS 7 "half-tablet" UI. Can someone report what stops working on 213? I know apps might look bad, but as soon their will working there will be matter of time when somebody will just mod them. But what will FC?
I am still on N1 i know what does not work on 213 N1 ICS - but N2 will be here in about 2 weeks so already curious.

Anyone tried 213 or 160 ?
hi, I used rom tool box to changed dpi. then I fix the market permanently( still work when google play update) whith LCD Density Modder Pro. well.
with some hour to use this density. I can see some app don' fit nice(camera, phone, calculator, clock and multi window) all this application can be changed with some google play app, but the camera is really bad to lost it. ( Spen and all other thing work great with a new dpi)
then I try camera fx, very buggy with it. later camera didn't work. "echec appareil photo". I tried everything( factory reset, wipe all, format all) still failled to launch camera with stock and all other app.
Since I changed the note 2 in my store with an other.
I break the camera on the device but what is the reason????
density? camera fx? hardware problem?
Still want to change the dpi (so better) but I don't want to break the camera again and I am not really sure what is the probem...
need help

Maybe you can try to download an other Camera app.
already did. the camera is defenitly broken on the first galaxy note 2. And other camera app are bad compared to the stock.
does it possible to modded the stock camera app for other density? If yes, what need to change in the apk?
I love 240 dpi as well...but most stock apps looks so stuffed up.....now I have revert back to 320....can't believe I have to be stuck with such a high dpi setting

If i would know i'll do it myself and share with all here lol..bt i am too bad in programming.....
Fired From My FireDevice.
Arf. This would be on the top lisf of the dev.
Don't know if it's possible but an app "dpi per app" would be awesome.
Paid for this app 10 euro... no 20... maybe more. Ahah
Like in the paranoidandroid but on touchwiz. Maybe possible...
I hope.... too bad this 320 dpi. look like a screen for blind man.
what app did you use to change the density?
was just wondering what app you guys used to change the density. tried editing the build.prop to 240 and i got stuck on a bootloop. wanna see if i can manage the complaints about the built-in apps not adjusting and the camera crashing.

Any info on it ? As Samsung is still thinking about the full documentation release , It seems PA will take ages to out...
I can confirm that neither 213 or 160 gives you full "half-tablet" mode for all apps. Camera looks messed up.
On 160 SystemUI crashes and the lockscreen look changed (time and date to the left instead of centered). SMS does not have "half-tablet" mode but the settings menu does. Google Chrome has got tabs. Didn't check calendar but I assume it's "half-tableteted".
On 213 SystemUI does not crash. Lockscreen looks like default one (centered). SMS does not have "half-tablet" mode, niether does the settings menu or Chrome. Didn't check calendar but I assume it's not "half-tableteted".
Conclusion, only way to get to "half-tablet" mode right now is to go 160 DPI and then everything's really small and SystemUI crashes :/
