[Q] Disabling the power switch during lockscreen. - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum (obviously). So today I was robbed during my commute (I got my phone back). As we all know, the HTC One's battery is not easily removable, and installing a tracking service can help. Only problem is, the HTC One can be restarted, preventing any tracking software from tracking the phone's location. Disabling the HTC One's power button can be a solution to this problem. My questions are as follows: Is there a way to disable the power button, and if so how?
I apologize if this topic has been discussed before.

if you disable the power button you wont be able to wake the device. If your goal is to remove the power off and restart menu from long press power, this also wont stop anyone because you can power cycle the phone with power and volume held together.
I'm not trying to sell this app nor am i a dev but you could try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.t3hh4xx0r.nfcsecure
it does cost money after a few days, but there is also a free trial. it works with NFC and takes over the lock screen so no matter what they do they cant get around this unless they have you NFC chip.( unless you have root and have a custom recovery that allows you to wipe data/data/) you can get NFC tags all over the internet including ones for your key ring or even an implant for your skin (weird? i know)

Security and anti theft options
Hmm well that's bad news for me.
What are the best security and anti theft software to add to my phone? I have

[Q] HTC Desire On/Off button doesn't work anymore...

Hi everyone,
I'm posting this thread because I'm heaving a problem with the On/Off switch of my phone... Since yesterday it doesn't work anymore, so when I push it down, nothing happens...
Yesterday, the power-controll menu (the one who appears when you push the swith down for a couple of seconds) appeared now and then, and my phone randomly switched on and off, so I'm thinking this may be a hardware issue...
My problem here is that I bought the phone in a store that's far away from where I live, so I can't just go and bring the phone for repair... But in the meantime I can't turn my phone on... The only way I can turn on the screen is when I connect it to a power source or when someone calls me.
I've searched the interwebs for software that may help me (something like a button remapper, so that I could use the central button for example as on and off switch) but that's only for rooted devices, and mine isn't...
Any propositions ?

I think his phone was on, so the problem was that he couldn't turn the screen on.

Well actually yes, the device was on but it turned off because of the battery... Luckily, I managed to restart the device by plugging it into the power source and remove/putting back the battery several times...
I noticed now that my battery is draining really fast, the phone can't hold a day of normal usage

[Q] Long press power turns on the phone?

I turn my phone off a lot when I travel to save power. I've noticed that only doing a quick press turns the phone off from a cold state which is very annoying when i'm just trying to make sure my phone is off like I did in the WM days and currently do with my android device. I'm wondering if this is restricted to my device (HTC 7 Pro) or it affects all WP7 phones.
Does this annoy anyone else? I've written to HTC so if it annoys you too please complain so we can get this changed!
My Focus requires a long press (2+ seconds) to turn the phone on. It sounds like your problem may be HTC-specific, or something is wrong with your particular phone.
Thanks for the head's up, my complaint has been forwarded to the dev department of HTC so hopefully they fix it soon.
my arrive turns in with a short press I think, as well as my tp2 and other HTC phones I've had. doesnt really seem like a big issue to be concerned over. the accidental turn off issue was resolved in the mango beta and powering off really isn't necessary just a switch to airplane mode or enabling battery saver.
Unless I misread the OP, his concern isn't with accidentally turning off the phone, but accidentally turning it on, since it seems that accidentally bumping the power button on an HTC phone will turn it on.

and I've told him that it's not necessary to do that in wp7. I don't get people, first they were complaining about the power button being too hard to press now it's the other way around.
l find that if you wanna check your phone..rather than pressing the power button press the camera button. If its on it'll go to the camera app. If its off it'll stay off.
I have never complained about the power button being too hard, I just checked and my TP2 does this too which is annoying. It's really not a difficult thing to implement and I should be able to conserve as much battery as possible without having to resort to flight mode only.
For now I'll use the camera button idea (thanks!) however ironically enough I have to long press the camera button to see if it wakes up, go figure...
Q&A is that way.... ---->

[Q] Remapping the Power button

My phone fell from my hand. And now the power button is not working. How to I remap it to the Search button? And will it be able to switch off/on the phone if it shuts down?

You cannot. it is hardwired to a pin, thats why you can force a reboot even if the phone locks up. You might be able to remap some functions, but not poweron/off and screen on. because when the screen is off the digitizer is in sleep mode so the search button wouldnt respond unless it was activated. Sorry to hear about you dropping the phone. Any warranty left?
No warranty
just another thought, sorry to hear about your phone. However, are you sure its the power button? since you dropped it, it might be caused by other hardware failure... you may need to consider the possibility as well..

depending on country/distributor some comes with only 1 year. Then again, i don't think they will entertain a claim caused by user... usually only covers factory defaults.
I bought mine from the US though i Live in India. So no warranty
this means... you have to use a pin to short the switch and boot it up everytime lol. Then enable wake using vol button to wake the phone haha.
How is it not working? Is it pressed below the unibody?
if so, I had the same issue, what i did was; remove the cover (first the battery, volume buttons and gps) and then while having the backcover in my hand, I took a small stump or something alike and pressed on the button from both sides, like 5 times each side.
Then put the thing together and it worked perfectly.
I've actually done this 3 times because I drop my phone very often xD
But if it don't work you should definitely get "Tap Tap App" which makes you unlock your phone with the proximity sensor located to the right of your speaker (the little black dot).
Hope it helps! Both solutions worked for me!
*Edit, oh yeah you can get a mod to use volume buttons to wake it up aswell, as the person above me mentioned ^^
Good luck!

So I suppose my phone has the most weird hardware problem ever.

Please don't move my thread to Q&A as I already made a thread there but no one replied.
So what happens is that a touch is randomly registered on the screen of my phone sometimes when I press the power button. This isn't an HTC lockscreen specific bug as I have established it happens with PowerAmp lockscreen as well. I have done a full factory reset and it is still happening.
I don't use lockscreen security so the obvious problem with this is that so many times upon pressing the power button a notification is clicked and immediately opened as a result. This problem can be avoided by using double tap to wake but it's far too easy to activate by mistake so I can't stand it.
Repeatedly pressing the power button will not reproduce this result, it seems to only happen when the power button had not been pressed for a few minutes. But this cannot be a bug related to sleep mode since this happens when playing music as well.
So what I would really like to know is if there is anyone else with this problem? My M9 had been so perfect all this time but this has just ruined the experience. I don't exactly remember when this problem started but I do know it wasn't there from day one.

Seems like a hardware problem. Something presses your digitizer (touch screen).
If u have any screen protector , remove it.
If not, take it to warranty.
Good luck!

HTC doesn't provide warranty in my country so I am outta luck. I don't have a screen protector so I guess I am screwed.
I guess I won't be buying HTC again. I already tolerated the crack on my bezel but it seems every HTC phone has some hardware issues. It's too bad though because I loved HTC software and performance, the M9 had been nothing short of a spectacular phone for me.
It happened to me too when I used a stupid Samsung charger. Try another charger, I don't know why but sometimes the current of power is somehow overflowing the chassis of the phone that the digitizer thinks the difference is actually a touch on the screen.
I want to update this thread. As it turns out it's 100% a software issue. How I figured this out is that when I turn on "double tap to wake" this problem completely disappears even if I still use the power button for unlocking. So basically the bug comes into play when you turn off double tap to wake as it is turned on by default.
So is anyone not using double tap to wake? Are you experiencing this problem? Unfortunately I find double tap to wake extremely annoying as it is so easy to wake up the screen.

That's quite a unique software issue then. At the risk of sounding like an obnoxious tech support guy, I would absolutely backup everything and then just factory reset (or wipe and reflash your custom ROM) when you get the chance and quickly check if the problem is still there.
I've been using double-tap and it has actually been the opposite for me - I find it annoying how hard it is to wake up the screen because you need to hold up the phone vertically before double-tapping, rather than just tapping while it's lying on the table or in your pocket.

I have already done a factory reset to no avail.
That's strange because I can activate double tap to wake from any orientation.

Oh my bad re-read OP and saw you already mentioned it.
Hunh, I stand corrected I guess, since now I'm able to wake from having it flat on the desk. Could have sworn that didn't use to work. But still, I'm not by any means accidentally waking it (if I pick my phone up, it pretty much means I want to use it).
I can't replicate the digitizer anomaly, so not much else I can say other than good luck. Have you tried custom ROMs?

It might take a day or 2 of usage to replicate the problem, it doesn't happen most of the time.
I wake up my screen accidently sometimes when putting it into my pocket after locking it which is hugely annoying as the lockscreen is kinda easy to unlock once it's woken up.
I really can't be bothered with custom ROM as I am done with all of that. I'll just live with double tap to wake.

That's the design. When lying flat, you can wake the phone with a triple-tap.

How to kill power without removable battery?

Hi all, I'm thinking about buying the OP3. I've looked this up but haven't found a definitive answer and hope that someone with the device could clarify. How would I force-ably power down the device without a removable battery?
Reason I ask is because I like to fool around with clocks and voltages and those can often lock up phone when approach a bad setting. If a phone is no longer responding, is there any hardware level kill switch so to speak that will un-power the phone? Is this what the "20 second hold" on the power button will do? Does it work when phone is not responding? Thanks all.
Yes, holding the power button for some time (10, 20, 30 ... seconds) will kill the device, no matter what state it's in (working, not responding, in recovery ...).
That applies to all devices without removable batteries.
