i use a transparent cover for my htc one. after 2 months of normal use the cover's colour turned brown like burned plastic. i could see the real difference when i bought a new one.

I think producers directly do their covers in this way, to make us to buy the new ones.

lolz. i think the heat from the phone is more to blame than the cover's producers.

Good idea. However, is the silicone so weak against comparatively not high temperature, that its colour is changing due to the heat?

its probably jsut the accumulation of dirt in the porous material of the silicone

The color change is too uniform to be from heat of the phone. If it was the heat of the phone you'd see a pattern relative to the hotter places on the phone. I use a Cimo clear case on my M7 and after 3 months of continuous use, it is still as clear as new.
If the heat from phone could do that, than heat of your body (having phone in pocket) would do simmilar..
I think that the case just "yellowed" - typical problem on cheapo cases.
Next time buy dark one or don't put that rubber on it at all.
I think cases which try to be invisible look much more disgusting than those "dark by nature".

Your opinion, of course. My clear case doesn't detract from the phone at all, IMO. It gives a bit of cushion should I drop it and raises the glass up just enough to keep it from contacting the surface dropped upon.
I've got that exact case in black and all though I like transperant cases I can't get over how much the Ones silver looks with black it makes it looks so much more sleek.

Guys...it's just dirt. My friend has a similar white case for his S3 and now it's all brown. It just gets dirty over time. That's why I never buy light TPU cases or any kind of white case. I just stick to black ones.
My Case turned blue somehow. I think it's cause of my trousers. If I have the phone in my pocket its rubbing against the trousers and the colour sticks to the TPU.
That's my thaught..
Wait did it turn brown or blue? You say brown in the title but in your post you say blue.

just curious of any real high quality cases. I have the innocase active right now and love it, but kinda wanting something a little thinner and less bulky and i know how the iphone has some very stylish, classy leather style cases, wood cases etc...

yeah those are interesting, just i would love to see (and i highly doubt it) like wooden cases. really nice leather cases.
I was going to suggest Vaja but their website doesn't show anything for the EVO as yet.

I gave up my innocase for this. It's very thin, sometimes I forget its there. It protects the camera lens. Feels high quality and comes w/a free screen protector.

i actully saw a customer come into my sprint store i workat with that case, it is pretty nice and slim. VERRRY slim. idk. i guess im askign for tooo much lol. would just love a reallly rich, classy, leather case or something
Idk, I don't think the market has matured enough with EVO's to warrant smaller companies making expensive cases for the Evo. I'd wait a few months before expecting anything like this.

I had that case and it is really nice AT FIRST. But just a little warning, if you live in a warm place like Florida(i do), then the glue holding that white fabric on will actually unstick and the fabric just starts falling off and peeling away. I really liked it before that though.
This guy on Ebay has really great reviews on other Android forums. He makes custom Leather cases for Evos.

How does this case do with the camera lens? Does the camera lens stick out past the case? Does it have a rubbery feel at all? I'm trying to find a nice hard case that will protect the camera lens and work with my ghost armor.

one word...... OTTERBOX
Post pictures of your third-party battery covers.
I got this one from ebay. It's almost identical, with minor aesthetic differences (aside from the obvious soft-touch plastic). Definitely not rubber, but feels a lot like the D900 for those that remember it. Samsung branding doesn't seem like it'll chip off easily, but I just got it. Ordered on the 11th, received from Hong Kong on the 29th. ~$9. Definitely a worthy replacement to the glossy defaults.
Feel free to request shots from specific angles!

Original on right side or bottom in all pictures. Thickness feels the same, but as you can see, the 3.5mm jack isn't as round as the original (very minor, no functional difference).

Precisely my sentiments, bdroc (lol, y'know my user name for a while during grade school was D-Roc?). I saw the original as tacky and gaudy, with the glossy plastic prone to scratches and looking like an overall cheap piece of crap. There were other batt plates, but I chose this one precisely DUE TO the lack of any GS branding. I wish I could remove ALL the branding, front and back. Samsung skips an opportunity to whore their namesake. eBay has replacements with all kinds of branding: the original Vibrant, Galaxy S, fake Google-certified, etc.

Yeah, and it's probably better material too. It's nonsensical that Case Mate doesn't just make the batt plate instead of making a "barely there" cover that's essentially the same thing but a mm or two bigger in some places.
But you definitely know what I'm talking about when I say the original back covers are stupid (wish I had a more sophisticated description but "stupid is as stupid does"). It doesn't matter if other people like to see the reflection of your phone, because you're the one who holds it and sees it up-close on a regular basis. The soft-touch gives the illusion of a much more solid phone and repels all fingerprints.
The one on the left i made and the one on the right was the one i bought on ebay.
Which cases/bumpers provide minor drop protection without adding bulk? Anything less bulky than TPU?

Excellent! Ordered!
But if it fell, there isn't anything to absorb shock, no? I figured a bumper would provide good protection because if it fell, the actual phone would never touch the floor and there isn't extra bulk added

Case mate "Barely there". Not much for protection but it doesn't add much bulk but will help for minor fumbles. If you wanted a case that would hold up from chest high drops, a minimal no bulk case isn't what anyone should be looking for anyway. I have the barely there on my thunderbolt and it has been very nice. For aonyone like me that doesn't drop there phone but wants a little more protection than a skin, the case mate option is great.

These look really thin and would offer mild protection from minor slips and falls.
Buy a good casing to protect your SIII
Hi Guys,
just want to share my unfortunate event happened to my 8days old SIII.
To make story short I drop my S III on a hard surface, face down ( average height est 0.5 meter). Pick it up, heart dropped a moment. Display cracked. I had all this while put on screen protector as well as casing. Unfortunately. It does not do it job well. Went to Samsung service Ctr. Off course warranty not covered, Damage done USD$220 for replacement of entire front panel.
So my advice to you guys. Especially if you have occasionally butter fingers like I do. Get a good casing to protect your new S III.
Got the barely there case. Not much protection. Especially on the front where it is needed. Nice and sexy case.

This was not received purposely, my guess is that they packaged up the items and mistakingly sent me somebody elses cause the tracking number they sent me doesn't match what's on the package. I ordered a white carbon fiber battery cover. But I gotta tell ya, this thing is DEAD SEXY! I'm not even mad that I didn't get what I paid for.

Fit and finish:
The finish is beautiful! I'd say the cover is a bit darker than pictured...when I seen it I didn't think gold I though burnt copper. Very nice color and it's accented with the vertical brush marks which makes it look even better. The cherries on top are the chrome trim around the bezel and the chrome trim around the camera/speaker/flash openings. Also, no gaudy "Galaxy S III" name on the back, it has the SAMSUNG logo embossed on the back and it looks like it was machined, polished aluminum. Very nice! Snapping it on to my phone I was impressed at how precise the fit is. The camera is flush with it's opening with the speaker and flash recessed and looking nice with the chrome trim surrounding them. The chrome bezel lines up perfectly with the bezel of the front side of the phone and doesn't clash nearly as much as I thought it would, it blends in nicely. The charger port cut out is spot on as is the headphone jack cutout. After I stopped drooling the first thing I noticed is added weight makes the GS3 feel much more substantial and solid. So far so good.
Cases:
The only cases I have right now are a Fosmon S type TPU and an Incipio Silicrylic Dual Pro. Apparently this cover adds a little girth cause the TPU case didn't work out. I got it on but it would not wrap around the screen on both sides, one side would but the other would just reach to the edge of the bezel. No bueno. The Incipio fit, but it's very tight. That being said, case fit will be hit or miss.
Functionality:
One concern was signal interference. Cell signal strength seems uneffected but wifi is weaker by 1 bar at the furthest point in my house from my router. I haven't tested NFC yet but will later on. Mobile data connection hasn't seemed to take a hit, based on the updates I just completed for a few apps. Haven't tested bluetooth yet either. So far any signal degredation is minimal and insignificant.
This is the first time I'm actually happy the company messed up my order!
I've been wanting to snag one of these, thanks for the write up!

After using mine the last two days in varying environments in and around my house as well as out in the community...I have to agree with you. It's too bad cause damn that thing was sexy! But there's a new battery cover in town and I don't miss this one at all...white carbon fiber :good:
Picked up one of these cases from ebay;
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/180931774909?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1503wt_770
and I have to say it, for what it's made for, is great! Now, I don't drop my phone a whole heck of a lot, so I wasn't looking for something to protect it against constant drops. What I wanted was something to protect the back/sides against scratches/nicks when it is in my pocket. And this does exactly that. It's super thin, which is noticeable when coming from other cases. The fact that it is opaque means that the design of the phone is pretty much intact. Which is great for this phone, since it is quite good looking to begin with. One added bonus, the case does have a very small lip to it which protects the screen when putting the phone down, face down.
If you are looking for an inexpensive case to do the basics(protect from scratches, minor drops, look good, have all buttons/ports easily accessible), then I would suggest this case.

FYI:
opaque: Not able to be seen through; not transparent.
transparent: Allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be distinctly seen.
this case is semitransparent to get technical.. not opaque.
