Has anyone noticed that the official Android 4.3 update is laggy as hell?
Like swyping through homescreens has lag even in the settings app it lags like crazy when scrolling and tapping on things
Has always run great for me. Did you factory reset after updating. Just like any computer its a good idea to occasionaly start fresh.

My SD card was the issue somehow. It was a generic one I replaced it with a real samsung one and its good now
My battery drain was also being caused by the SD card via media server trying to access it

This section might be hidden on some phones, but it’s very easy to access. On many phones, you just have to open a certain page in the settings and tap a button seven times. Use Google to figure out how to enable Developer options on your phone if it’s currently hidden (for example, search “enable developer options HTC One”).
Once you have access to Developer options, simply scroll until you find the following three settings, which may be located on the main screen or within an “Advanced” subsection:
Window animation scale
Transition animation scale
Animator animation scale
Tapping each of the three aforementioned settings will reveal that it’s set to “1x” by default. If you want to speed up your phone or tablet dramatically, simply change each of those three settings to “.5x” — that’s it.
Just to clarify, this doesnt actually speed up performance afaik. But it does make the device seem a bit snappier as it speeds up transitions.
It used to make more of a difference than it does now though. I think it was set to 1.5x or 3x in previous versions, so the change made more of a noticeable difference.

What you're thinking of is not lag

I found this tweak at anandtech. My SGS is now flying. It's amazing. Your SGS performance will at least double after setting no animation.
Turning off animation disables the fading effect when opening and closing apps.
Works on all SGS firmwares. It may not work if you are using the default TouchWiz home.
Cheers
To me this only seems to affect the settings windows, doesn't change the app draw fade, or homescreens. What else does it turn off?

WOW! This really does make a huge difference (didn't think it would),
Nice find.
This is true makes most things snappier. The animation reminds me of my old iphone anyway, don't wasn't that now do we! Its enough that samsung copied the design of the enclosure...

this works great on the interface make it feel really snappy.
It stops the fading effect of moving from one screen to another screen or pop ups. So, now you don't have to wait.
is the graphics driver at fault?
if the animations are not smooth and thats causing the delay, maybe the graphics driver is at fault.
This makes my phone well fast. Running doc's rom and ryan za's lag fix. Thanks man. I like the speed

Perhaps, as overlays/transparencies might not be working as intended, any app that uses any kind of transparency/overlay/fade over TouchWiz seems to go to hell.
To see this, checkout vizBattery, when the screen with the 2 select buttons pops up and its semi transparent if you have a live wallpaper going you can see the frame rate drop to 5 fps.
I still can't see any other windows that this turns effects off for??? What are you all on about
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It might be faster because it takes less cpu/gpu to use your phone but your cpu/gpu is not always on full charge so I think that it seems faster only because you don't have the animation delay that's all
It's the same as disabling all the fancy FX in win 7 ( or any other OS ), but I like my FX and I'm happy to wait the microsecond or two extra
I have always been bothered with the slow animation on the front screen. It is dead smooth in launcherpro. But disabling the animation do makes for a better experience.
Although zooming and scrolling in the app-drawer is dead slow still.
Is this really a Development section topic....?
This is nothing special or specific to the SGS. Same settings on my EVO 4G and Nexus One exist(ed), and have the same impact on the "feel" of the phone.
If you get Spare Parts you can speed it up, which has the same effect without destroying the prettiness.
Hey, this works really well. And I don't think it destroys the prettiness, windows open too fast for destroying it
These are one of the things I do everytime after flashing a new rom.
1) Disable animation
2) Change the Mobile networks to 'GSM Only' (We have no 3G yet in India on major n/w)
3) Brightness to Zero
4) Haptic Sensitivity to just a bare minimum
5) Date & Time to 12-hour format
6) USB Debugging - Enabled
7) Privacy - Use my Location
8) Wifi-Settings - Disable network notification
9) Disable SD Card notifications
10) Disable Power saving Mode
11) Set the APN & Login to Google!!
I wish there was a way to automate the above steps
What exactly does the powersaving mode do?
You could probably write a script for sl4a that adjusts many of those.

1+ for using spare parts on fast window translation.
Is there an app that allows direct access to one of the developer options so I can easily toggle it? I'm running stock, unrooted.
Here's the issue: Just upgraded to 4.3, and there's a bug that resets the Transition Animation Scale back to 1x whenever you run the Camera app. Right now I have to do Settings > More > Developer Options > scroll down to Transition Animation Scale > set to None > exit. PIA every time I use the Camera.
What I'd like is to have a script that runs the Camera app and then on exit automatically resets the animation option. Short of that I'd settle for a direct link to the option setting.
Any help appreciated.

Sent from my GT-I9505G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
if you use say Nova launcher you can long press the home screen select shortcut/activity or app/ and can choose things like you are wanting and itll make an icon as if it was an app on your homescreen

Good thought. I am actually using Nova. Just looked through all the available Activity links but don't see direct access to the specific option I need to toggle.
I've also installed the Developer Options app, which does allow one click access to the Dev Options, so that's better than drilling down through Settings, etc.
The stock browser is great but the animations are painfully slow. Why would Samsung add such an annoying "feature?" Unfortunately almost every other browser has jittery scrolling , a problem I also had on my Note 3. Is there any possible way they can be removed or find a modified apk somewhere? Thanks everyone.
Activate 'Developer Options' (on the build number in 'About', press it 7 times) and inside change the animation scales to lowest (right now it is set either at 1x or 1.5x).. there are three options to change..

I actually already have them turned off completely. But that only applies to system animations. The animations within apps are separate, and it's those in-app animations within the stock browser that are unessecarily slow. I wish I could get rid of them completely.
Hi,
I was using Google Chrome on my G3 (v5.0, not rooted) and when I opened a link in a new tab nothing happened, I don't remember if an animation used to happen showing a tab in the bottom opening in the background but this animation is present on the Nexus 5 and on my rooted LG Nitro HD (flashed with CM for v4.4.4).
And when I press the square button to see the running apps I don't see my newly opened tab at the very beginning then directly it appears.
Tried clearing Chrome's cache and rebooting my phone nothing changed.
Can you try it and help if it's a problem?
Thanks,
Wow. I would return the phone right now.
Huge flaw.

Thanks for not helping, I didn't complain anywhere in my post, but seeing this animation not working made me think about other animations maybe not working or a decrease in the smoothness of my phone.
Go to settings, access Developer options, check these: Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, Animator duration scale. These are your animations, check if some are off.
If you cant access Developer options, go to about phone and click 7 times on your Build number. After that you will be able to access Developer options.

Thanks a lot man! The Window animation scale and Transition animation scale were both off! I had Developer options enabled but I never ever messed with them... I suspect it's the battery saving feature because when it's enabled all animations are turned off so maybe it was a bug and they were not enabled after it. I didn't think about checking developer options and I started clearing all caches of chrome, home, systemui, reinstalling chrome and wasting my time.. so thank you, a G3 with no animations isn't the same
Is there a way to have this support more than 3 apps? It's ridiculous there's a limit with the amount of ram on this phone
That's a GREAT question, and I'd love to know the answer too. I haven't found one yet though. RAM isn't an issue on this phone. Maybe they worry too many locked in memory will affect battery life too much?
Where did you learn this is the limit? I've gone days without opening an app before and when I go back to it it's right where I left off.
You could perhaps go to the battery saving menu and disable the battery saving for any apps you want to remain running. This may cause some serious background battery usage though, but It may be worth trying out. Also, try running the high performance mode. I've run that mode a lot and never noticed it causing much battery drain over the standard optimised mode.
Coming from Oneplus and using it for a long time I can tell you, the Note 10+ is probably one of the best multitasking phones I've used (including Note 9). Chrome on this hardly ever closes in the background and find it always running and available with all the tabs open. Oneplus phones can hardly keep anything in memory / background loaded for more than 5 mins but but Oneplus phones feel sooooo much more responsive and snappy comparatively otherwise.
The default for background apps is set to, "standard." Which allows more than 3 background apps.
Go into Device Care - > Battery - > App power management
Some apps may have been automatically added to sleep or deep sleep.
You can add or remove apps as needed.

After you add three to "Keep open for quick launching" the option becomes greyed out.
You're right, it's generally not an issue where apps get closed down in the background anyway, but I normally have 4 or 5 that I always wanted 'pinned' to my recents list. Not a big deal, I just found the limit strange, given the phone's capabiities and hardware.

How do you get " keep open for quick launching “ , I only get lock app instead , I'm running one ui 2.1 june security patch ” picture attached ”
Anyway you can bypass this using good lock app from galaxy store and use the module multistar and toggle on ”long live apps”

I'm also on One UI 2.1, June security patch. Screenshot of my menu option is attached. Maybe it's different between countries/regions/models? Mine is the Canadian N975W.

I have three settings :
Put apps to sleep
Put apps to deep sleep
Apps that are not put to sleep.
I can add as many as i want in here.
There's an option to Goodlock's Task Changer to keep an app open which is a setting you don't have anywhere else in the system.
But i don't have that long live app in Multistar on my end.
Sorry for digging this up but do all of your apps appear in the "Apps that never sleep" list of apps?
I'm missing quite a few of my apps, aProfiles and Philips Hue for a start...
Anyone has noticed that before? Thnx
