Hello, i use the AuraxTSense v7.6.1 roms. Iam a litte confused about the app2sd+. Ive created a 1024mb ext3 partition with gparted and wiped the phone.
When i look in quick system info (after installing some apps) i can read:
A2SD storage: 0.93MB, Free: 706MB
internal storage 148MB, Free: 23.27
Is this the normal way app2sd+ uses the availibe memory? I feel really bad with so less internal memory.
Ive got the feeling the app2sd+ dont write more than ~200mb on the ext3 memory.
Can someone tell me what to do?
Yeah, I'm in a similar situation.
I have Modaco's R8 with A2SD+ and I think some applications (such as Copilot) are definetely going to internal memory instead of ext3 partition.
I thought, since ext3 is symlinked as /data to fool android, all applications would end up in ext3... or have I got it totally wrong??
Why are we losing so much internal memory?
I have the exact same issue!
It is soooo anoying and I am about to go totally insane.
Even though i have partitioned my SD correctly it just eats internal storage 1:1 when i install apps.
...aslo selecting move to sd card in application manager have no effect on internal storage anyhow.
Ive got exactly the same problems. Do you have Amoled or Slcd, may they did some more hardware changes. Which rom do you use, may this is a aurextsense only issue?
Does someone have tried to partition the sd via root manager? If i do so, quick system info dont show me the partition.
Could it be possible that this is the normal app2sd+ behaviour and we just want more?
Does someone know where to find the author of app2sd+, may we could hask him (or her ;D).
i have the same problem and mine is amoled.
there has to be something wrong either with our rom developement or our setup on the phone.
help would be appreciated
btw my problem is that my dalvik cache is going to the phones memory instead of the sd! check if yours is the same under data/dalvik-cache
I have the AMOLED version and I have experienced the issues on ALL ROMs (froyo 2.2 based) that I have tried out.
I partitioned the SD card with ClockworkMod recovery 0 cache, 512 ext3.
Since I have experienced this issue on all ROMs I have tried I am starting to think that it is a SD related issue?
I never had the often build in aps2sd+ working at all.
Once I had the 2.2 build in apps2sd by google working but that was after fireing this at it: adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2.
After going back to AurexTSense rom and doing the adb shell one again it didnt work.
I couldnt even make it work again with the rom that I had it working on the one time earlier.
Since I am pretty confident that the partitioning of the SD is correct then the only difference left is that my SD is a "Gold" card.
Could this be the issue???
That the SD is a gold card?
One thing I do know for sure is that I am about to go outside and ask a total random individual if he knows what the problem is.
If he dont I will kill him and proceed with the next until SOMEONE can tell me what the #%#%#% is going on.
please delete...wrong thread...
I dont use a goldcard so i dont think this could be a problem.
iam using a 16gb sd card. may it doesnt work with this size?!
damn problem, i will go crazy with it .
Maybe the problem has something to do with the formatting of the SD card?
I personally used ROM Manager with Clockworkmod recovery to do the trick.
...perhaps that is what us experiencing this anoying error all has in common?
Because I have had the issue on all roms I have tried out I am reluctant to believe it has something to do with the SD card / formatting...?
Problem Solved...FINALLY!
Try getting the app called Quick System Info from the market.
It can detect your app2sd ext partition.
...so if you can see it in Quick System Info it is actually working.
What I did was (again) to repart my SD with 512 ext and 0 swap.
...then that issue is ruled out of the way.
Then I wiped everything and reinstalled my fav rom.
(which ROM you use does not matter at all just as long as it has apps2sd build in. This is NOT the google one in 2.2 i am talking about here.
Preferably your ROM should have app2sd+ installed and then it will automatically move all apps to SD.
Since the ext part is interlinked with internal storage you can also have widgets and other stuff on the SD which is NOT possible with google app2sd in F 2.2
After installing the ROM I downloaded Quick System Info from the market and noticed that i actually had an app2sd partition allocated and it had 385 MB free / initially it was 512 MB.
...so clearly apps has been moved to the ext part during first boot.
Cool, i went on to download google earth since its a giant app 22 MB.
The funny thing is that 6 out og 22 MB went to the ext part and the rest went to internal memory.
The same goes for Google Maps.
The thing is that some of the google apps simply has some modules that can ONLY be run from internal storage.
..aslo making these apps not so good for testing purposes in regrards to apps2sd.
Instead I installed some other apps like Break Out for droid which is about 8 megs.
It hammered into ext smoothly and taking nothing from internal storage.
Also DO NOT USE the google apps2sd as it will only move your apps from ext part into the fat32 part of your SD.
So if you have a correctly formatted SD card (like done with clockworkmod and rom manager) it will all be working automatically.
To be honest I have been fooled a bit by my own messing around
First i didnt have an ext part which ofcourse was the initial problem.
When i finally had the ext part I was stupid enough to test with the google apps and since i only was able to see amount of interal storage it appeared NOT to work.
Try it out guys and be as happy as I am now...finally
im using the amoled version of the desire, with the exact same version of auroxtsence as the op, as you can see from the screenshot, im using over 600mb on my ext3 partition....
why are some so apps going to ext3.and some not? Ive installed quake 2, it has gone to ext3. After deinstalling and reinstalling it goes to internal. This doeant make sense to me. Is this the normal behaviour?
Ive got 15 mb internal left and wasnt able to install minisquatron without using froyo a2sd. The a2sd+ dont use more than ~200mb.
So can someone tell me what to do or if someone think it runs normal tell what to test.
Is there any way of installing this damned a2sd without wiping out everything? I gues not, so ....stupid question.
Warning !
Do not look the a2sd storage in Quick System Info , this app (great app except for a2sd line ) is bugged .
Ive tchat about this on xda , and I'm not single who don't have a ext3 partition ( after deleted ) but the app say we have a storage a2sd !
The answer will probably be a yes but I want to make sure.....I partitioned my sd card to free up some hardware space and I ended up with 122mb on device.
My question is, do software updates load onto the phone memory? I flashed a keyboard, radio and icons off the card and now the memory has went down to 102mb.
Thanks in advance,
Paul.
It actually seems to be going down a few mb at a time, thought this **** would end after I binned the BlackBerry..........
You could of searched there is plenty of topics on this ...... when you use apps2sd+, /data/app/ and the dalvik cache are moved to the sd-ext, the /data/data/ directory remains on the device, this directory is used to store all app data, thats why your internal storage goes down

Yes there is a small amount of internal space still used but not much.
You will be able to install a lot of apps untill you run out of space. Much more than before.
Another trick you could try that I just did is applying the custom MTD partitions mod (do a search in the development thread) and this will give you some more memory to play with (I have 70 apps installed and still have 108MB Free!)
...and by safe I really mean a logical, usable size for caches etc. In example, a size which wouldn't give me problems when, I'm browsing in "heavy" websites, downloading through marketplace, or receiving messages and emails.
Since I got my desire and flashed the latest LeeDroid ROM, I've started installing apps like there's no tomorrow. Naturally, most of them I just try and discard, but a lot of them I just keep on my phone even if I use them once a week, or even once a month. With A2SD enabled, I currently have a whopping 188 apps installed. I think they will soon classify a psychiatric condition named after me. That leaves me with around 25mb left in Internal storage, and around 20mb remaining in A2SD.
On my Touch Pro, again, with a [censored]load of apps installed, I usually left around 30mb of free memory, just for various caches. Would it be wise to do the same for android, or should I just wait for the "low space" notification to start clearing things out?.
So I'm wondering. How much free storage you guys have on your desire? And how much would you consider it would be wise to leave free. Would a full-featured site use more than, say 10mb of cache? Would we ever need more than 10mb of cache for mail or messages? Any other serious disadvantages of having an -almost full- internal storage space?
(I already got brut mod for google maps, so maps cache ain't a problem)
Sorry for the long post and possibly needless question... insomnia at it's best

Down to 8MB internal free !! (cachemate only freed additional 2MB)

Time to delete apps now
Need a better a2sd(+) or bigger phone !
Yes I think that until the memory leak in the contacts storage is fixed, we Desire users are going to have to get used to doing a hard reset every month or so. Currently have 85mb of phone storage left after a hard reset last week. Before that I was down to 12Mb.
130MB using SuperVillain. I only have around 25 apps though.
Leave 10% or more free. Less than 10% will cause things to start breaking.
memory
hi guys iv got about 110 apps or so and still got 305mb mem on my desire and thats internal memory buy using data2sd very good the only problems i got is my phone crashes and freezes now and again thing its my sd card so is going to try another
I'm using LeeDroid's ROM and am left with about 22MB - how are you lot doing an app count? I know I've got quite few apps installed. It's a shame we have to worry about this. I thought I had saw the end of it when I moved from WM6.X devices!
Apps2ext/data2sd (or variants) seems to be the way forward, but as said, there seem to be stability issues at the moment.
The new Nexus S comes with 16GB nand memory - this is what all android phones should have had from the beginning - bigger internal memory.
WARNING, dont get it wrong.
The new Nexus S indeed has 16GB memory ...
But only 1GB for internal memory where you can use to install app.
It has 13 GB as "emulated SD card".

That's still a lot of apps to be stored in 1GB! If that guy up there fit 200ish apps in around our 140MB of space with A2SD+, then theoretically you could put like nearly 1000 apps on the nexus S!
Ah I see...I take that back then!
How comes Apple can do it with their phones but none that are running Android can?? Is it simply a cost thing?
It's obviously apparent that many Android users are installing apps/games mounting way over 500MB.
Got data2ext and have 1.7GB free. I left some directories on the internal storage and created some links. I have to say it working pretty well. Almost no performance lost. Only noticed performance issue while playing asphalt hd.
But the internal storage of nexus s is a step forward. But still more improvement needed. Once they fix those storage issues we will get greater and bigger apps.

down to only 172 apps (29 MB internal free)...
I Figure I could get another 100MB internal free by repackaging
a ROM by removing 99% of the install packages
and installing manually from copies from the FAT32 Sdcard after first boot.
This fresh install would push most of the installed files to the A2SD+ ext3 part of the sdcard.
Seems a waste of space having over 100MB flashed on r/o ROM storage,
taking away from internal:
/data/app/*.apk [9 MB]
/system/app/*.apk [98 MB] {HTC* 30MB }
/system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip [2 MB]
Anyone tried this approach?
I suspect knowing what to leave to have a minimal system is the trick?
Can I boot with 0 system apps installed ?
I'm thinking "why not" , I can use the command line adb , so I don't think
I even need a gui or fileexplorer app at all ?
Will think about it when the latest LeeDroid has stablised... TBA
65 apps installed, for 55 MB total, and I've got 16MB of free internal storage...
Seriously, I'm reading a lot of thread on this matter and I can't figure out: what's wrong with this phone internal memory?
HTC States 512MB Rom and 576MB RAM (can't put the link here 'cause I'm noob but you can google it), if I'm not wrong the Rom is the apps storage, right?
With DiskUsage I see 147MB of total internal storage memory (a recurrent number, but on the threads I read no one seems to care about the 365MB vanished like fog in the mouring), occupied for a good 90% by apps, cache and data.
I've the official last Froyo Update (I only rooted it with unrevoked and substituted the recovery but the ROM is the official one), and I've set on SD card all the apps that permit it.
Yes I know that I must install app2sd and I'm shure I will do it soon, but that is not the point.
The point is: please, someone can explain to me where I'm wrong in my calculations, or what bug or know issue I'm missing?
spile wrote: "Yes I think that until the memory leak in the contacts storage is fixed..." but again: even this search lead me to an endless list of topics in wich someone say: "Hey my contacts storage on HTC Desire is 40MB, how's that? " and someone other: "Use apps2sd 'cause HTC is bad".
Worst: that's not my case, my contacts storage state 3MB.
Again I know that in a way or another I'm ending this with apps2sd, but again I say it's not my point: my point is I want to undestand where is the problem and, most of all, if complaining directly to HTC is a waste o time that put me as the last one in a row of people condemned to ***** about HTC Desire's memory for the rest of their's life
Sorry for the long rant but I've done my search (at least I've tried, maybe I missed that one topic of revelations) and I want to put all the informations on the table so to not waste more time of yours ^^;;;
Thanks anyway

On second thoughts, it appears freeing space in /system,
won't really help /data much, so this would not help:

Perhaps /cache is too small now ?
im using my own cooked rom, and have atleast 300 apps installed, and i have 58mb free internal storage with 22mb cache partition, 190mb system partition and 222mb data partition
100mb free after 144 apps installed. Have N1table for data partition of 200mb. And app2sd helps a bit. No need for data2ext
Teleported from my brain cells
I've installed about 20mb of apps (fb @ 4.8mb, music app 5mb, rest = 10x<1mb apps w/ no cache usage) yet still only have about 14mb. Somehow I'm missing 100mb ish on a RUU'd Desire. Annoying.

It did not vanish, the 365 mb is used by android system files and other stuff HTC throws into the phone. In theory, we only have 140+ mb to install apps.

Hey
I'm running CMod 6.0.1 on my rooted HTC Desire (Telus).
All of my apps, with the exception of some few are installed on my 16GB SD card, yet I only have 11MB of internal space remaining? As far as my calculation go, I've only used around 100MB. Does anybody know where my other 400MB went? Why is only so little left?
Thanks in advance
Check the applications for how much data they have (Settings>Applications) I recently had this problem then went to the Browser and found out that it had well over 70mbs data there, which instantly got deleted.
Swyped from my Oxygenated HTC Desire
HTC Desire has a specified internal storage space of 512mb. But only about 146MB is available for installing apps. You can search around the forum for more info.
There are ways to increase your internal storage. The simplest is to create an EXT partition using ROM Mananger or gparted. You will also need to use a rom that has A2SD built in.
So the next time you download apps, your apps will be installed on your ext partition. Well most of it. Some apps will still take up internal space.

Or modify the rom before flashing. Remove unwanted apps and replace them with apps that take huge amounts of user-space and rarely is updated (ie google maps and such).
In most roms ive tried its a simple process of delete/drag-drop into the rar-file...and then flash without sign verification.
Got about 100mb free with programs i use installed, and still have ~120mb left on the system-part if i find any new must-have-by-default-app.
But do a nandroid backup before starting if you choose this way, to be able to restore a messup and to see how much space your system.img(?) takes. This to know how much space you have left to put apps on.
Hi all,
Running a bit low on storage space at the moment.
In settings it says that I have 66mb internal mem free for apps but when I try to download and install an app like Google goggles (roughly 5 mb) it says internal memory low
Cleared cache on Google Play store and dalvik cache using supercharger (if that helps) but that didn't help... any suggestions?
On another note, if I install link2sd does my stock kernel ICS .562 support a ext4 partition?
Cheers!
Im getting the same issue here. Im running Official ICS and have deleted the bloatware and un-needed system apps.
My internal says 56mb but cant install apps without deleting one or two that i dont use or move to sd.

Try a RAM/cache cleaner from the market, there are a few free good ones. And yes, ext4 is supported.
Sceptical of so many memory "fixes" I did grab one for the market, Memory Booster Lite (Tablet) by Imoblife Inc. I thought I don't need more menory I need more space, was down to 37 megs out of 252 after moving all I could to SD, and only installed not even 20 apps. After install not even a reboot, back up to 122. I sure hope that some fixes are in the works for ICS updates as the internal memory on my GB 2.3.6 phone is 1.5 gigs and again only 252 megs on my ICS 4.03 tablet. When someone comes up with a way to "partition magic" these parts let me know becasue this is nuts.
Thanks again for the insight as I can now continue to load up my tablet with useless stuff

Thanks for your response. I have tried quite a few of these cleaners but they don't really do the job for me. Ram/cache cleaners seem to be temporary and for cache it just builds itself up again after a reboot.
Managed to delete some useless system apps/data which has also sped up my system quite a bit.
I will give the ext4 a try when I get some time.
Cheers,
I also have the same problem but worse I only use about 7 phone only apps roughly 50mb altogether and it says I only got 9% (about 36mb) left.
Last time this happened I wiped my phone, but as the weeks go by the free memory keeps going down even though I don't install anything else.
I currently use zdbox task killer & official Sony rom.
If someone can find a solution to this, please tell.

i think you can try use ext 2 if problem with ext4..
or you can partition your sd card via recovery, and give swap memory about 256MB..
install link2 sd aplication and then choose ext 2 (first time you open link2sd app)
and reboot your phone..
and from link2sd app you can move all apps to sd card..
you can also make link2sd automatic link your apps..
you should use the app link2sd to solve that problem...
Don't think you understand.. all the apps I installed in the phone should only take about 10% memory including cache etc.
I rooted and pretty much moved every app. The only ones that stayed were for stability reasons such as smart keyboard or beautiful widgets.
Basically only solution I found so far is a hard reset, but after about 4 months it will be back to 9% again.
