Hoping someone can provide some direction. First and foremost I am not a HTC savvy so although there are a few threads here about the same issue none of them relate to me as I have not rooted the phone nor flashed to custom ROMs or anything to that nature. I am simple user of the phone... Now.. to the topic.. so I bought this phone for my brother in law last year as a birthday present, and at the time I had a working phone so I didnt put my mind too much to it.. but I did liked the phone very much. Two months ago, I decided to purchase one of these, so I bougtht an HTC ONE X Phone S720e Android 32GB 8MP 3G WiFi GPS Bluetooth Unlocked White. I don´t recall what versión of Android it carried at the time but looking at the specs it should had come with Android 4.0.3. After loading it up, transfering my files on to it and loading some basic apps, whatsapp, email, Skype... it off coursed asked for a software update two times which I went ahead and did. The last one it installed added Android 4.2.2 and HTC Sense 5. It was working fine, layout changed considerably... now after doing another of the updates to applications and software, specifically the transfer files update it suddenly quit recognizing data services completely. I though it might be something with the micro sim, so I tried testing a couple of others, it didnt make a difference so I decided to back up my contacts and information I had on the phone and did a Factory reset. It wipped it clean but issue remains the sames, it is unable to even recognize the sim card is missing and when I go into settings I see the message Disconnected because service is unavailable.
Reading online, saw a few folks stating that this situation was related to software updates.. so I was wondering if I could get some help on how to get this fixed. Not sure what to do, downgrade to 4.0.3 or how could I get it resolved so appreciate some direction here.
If you go to settings - about - phone identity, does it still shows the imei ? Seen many people here having their imei gone from their phone and becomes an iPod since we can't write it back. Tho you are on stock, so better send it for repair.

It shows up as unknown actually... is this a software related issue then? Im concerned about the other phone going through the same situation... should no updates be installed to it then? That makes it fairly useless and might prefer to send it back and try to get a refund instead.

I bought a HTC Desire branded to Orange UK trough eBay when i was working there last month. The First thing i did was to debrand it using the 1.15.405.2 that i found on MoDaCa, and i bought a unlock key on eBay. This solution worked pretty well until the OTA update showed up, the i got the known WiFi issue. That was no biggie either, just installed the RUU of the 1.21.405.2 and the new Radio, and everything seemed to be perfect again
BUT THEN, two days ago, my phone suddenly lost it's connection to the my mobile operator . I tried to swap my sim card with another sim card, and the result was that my HTC Desire wouldn't get connection while my sim card worked well in the other phone. I also browsed trough my menus to try to find something that might be wrong, but no luck. If i tried to connect to my mobile operator manually, i got a message saying something like "SIM-card doesn't allow connection to this network".
Yesterday morning, i called HTC to try to find out if this might be a hw or sw malfunction, and he advertised me to do a factory settings restore and felt pretty confident that it only was the sw letting me down. I did as he suggested and boom, it worked...for about 5-6 hours, then it came back. As if that wasn't annoying enough, a factory settings restore didn't do the trick this time, and neither did a reflash with the goldcard. I even formated my mSD to be sure there wasn't any kind of virus on it.
So please, if anyone in here got a tip regarding sw, let me know. I'm helpless without my dear phone...
Hmmm this is my biggest concern... I'm just about to buy an ebay Orange Desire and flash it with a stock ROM and unlock it.... kinda worrying as I'm no Linux man really...
im not sure if its the same thing but i have lost conection to t mobile on my desire twice now. first time was fixed by re entering the apn. this time no change. the differance is mine is un branded. i also cant do mms any more.
Unbranded and debranded, same ****, isn't it? Niter means branded...
Seems like i'm not the only one with this problem: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/5...nt-re-connect/page__view__findpost__p__405655
Lots of Vodafone users in that forum has similar issues, but most of them seems to have a workaround by turn off the back on, or go by airplane mode to get signal back, tat doesn't work for me. I tried to flash my phone once more, but still no luck.
I'm considering a root operation and install android 2.2 aka froyo, but i'm not even sure if that is possible since i got the bootloader version 0.80...
ive just got mine working again by resting the apns to default.
mms still not working though. i hope its not a voda problem i just paid off t mobile a years contract to join voda due to terrible reception and crap tech support.
what is that, and how do you do it? I would guess that a reset to factory default and/or a complete reflash would take care of such, whatever it is...
Yep I was about to ask the same thing! what is it and how do you turn it on/off?
go to settings - wirless & networks - mobile networks - access point names - then press the menu key and hit reset to default.
hope this helps you
That did the same thing as a "reset to factory defaults", but still doesn't work
I've an unbranded unlocked desire on 3 UK with original firmware and mine does drop out occasionally but always comes back perhaps its a desire quirk !

Suppose so, but unlike you and many others, mine doesn't come back I was hoping for a fix for this issue, but i'm afraid were talking about hw malfunction, let's hope i'm wrong...
Little update, just followed this guide, but that didn't change anything. As far as i know, i now got some kind of rooted version of HBOOT 0.75 and fw.ver. 1.15.405.4, dunno about radio version. But it also says that i'm not able to install a custom rom with this rooted version, but i might be able to completely root it now and then install a custom rom?
Yet another update, i did install the 2.2 Froyo following this guide, and unlike the HTC roms, this one indicates that i do have full/optimal connection to my mobile operator, but it still won't let me call, just replies with 'Mobile network not available'.
I kinda courages me to scream out loud ****!!! Yes, i mean it...
Feedback would be nice
Just a thought, may i be that the guy i bought the phone from could have reported it as stolen with the intention of getting an insurance fee? And as a result of that, my phone have been closed by the operator? Don't even know if they mind doing such across the border. So the question would be: Is there any way to find out if my phone has been remotely closed?
Call your carrier.... they will be able to tell you if the phone is connecting to the nextwork correctly... ask them if not... why not?
I second that suggestion, try calling your carrier. Also I have found that switching the internet on directly through settings rather than using the widgets solved my connection problem.

Yep, i got contact with the seller from eBay, and he is very helpful, so he will do what he can while i will call my carrier first thing in the morning. Seems like there might be a glitch here, but i'll keep you updated on my progress.
argh, it seems like i wont get anywhere with my phone. I'm considering trying to change the IMEI, i know it's illegal, but i paid £360 for this device, and atm it's useless to me. If i only knew how tho change the imei, not exactly easy information to obtain, not even with google...

So have you found out why your having problems?
ah, sorry, thought i already told u guys, lol. Well, for some reason the phone is IMEI locked. The seller says that he did call to lock a sim card when he lost his iphone, and it might be related since it's the sim that was suppose to be in my phone. however, i think he either claimed the phone stolen to commit insurance fraud, or it's simply stolen. Another thing i came across was that the operator might blacklist the phone if it's unlocked without their blessing, don't really know if they can do that.
Either way, the only way for me to make this phone work is to convince the police that it's not stolen (i need a recite for that which he won't provide me), or to change the imei code with my "awesome" hacking skills...
Hay there,
a week a go i rooted my phone with the r5 root using the guide at theunlockr.
now it seems that i have som difficulties with calling and people calling me ( might be sms also)
Sometimes when i call someone it goes for around a sec ( cant even hear the *biiiip* sound.) and then the phone spits out a tiny *pip* just like someone is hanging up on you. I know that the person doesnt hang up. ive tested it with 2 phones.
other times it says that the number i am calling is not in use.
does anyone else have the same problems ?
How can i totally reset my phone to default ? Will there be a warranty problem if i send it in ? since software change is in the picture.
if you guys needs more info just ask

You've posted in the wrong sub forum. Go HERE and you should get the help you need. As far as i can work out if you go to the thread in there with the Generic official roms (Its one of the stickied threads) and pick the one your phone came with and use that it will put it back to as it came and unrooted, and so should be good for warranty.
One other thing. Are you sure its not a network or sim card problem problem?

Hi
I have a problem with a Desire Z. Alot of times when I try to send a message (SMS) it takes forever (5min) before it gets sent. If I hit the home-button while watching/waiting for the message to be sent, it's put in drafts instead of keep trying to send.
It's also slow at recivieving messages. Tested with a couple of other phones and compared.
Does anyone else have a simular issue? The sim-card has been used for years with other phones without troubles.
Try using a different messaging app (i.e. handcent)

Same problem for me. Hoping the new OTA solve this problem.
Tap on "send", put the phone away, look at the phone after an hour, somethimes the sms is still "sending" !
I only get this if I have no or very bad signal, i.e. it will wait till it's got a signal to send it.
I wonder if it's worthwhile for you guys to do a factory reset or re-flash the ROM ?
Only thing I can think of is using the "delete old messages" function after deleting all your messages. other than that, I'd try wiping cache and dalvik cache (assuming you are rooted). Re-flashing the ROM should be a last resort (assuming that you even have a custom ROM installed).

This isn't relevant for my problem since it's always good strength + when I tested the slow recivieving the other phones was in the same room, with no problems

So it's possible it's so slow at sending since it has alot of messages in the inbox? It might be the case, but even so it's lame if that's the reason, it's far more powerfull than just handling some textfiles

Thanks for all your answers, will test'em out as soon as I can!

Haha I agree with you on that, mine has messages in it from weeks and weeks ago. the only reason i said that is because when I was with sprint, I had a HERO (i know, they arent even close to the same spec-wise) and it acted the same way your G2 is acting now. I fixed it by doing what I recommended. worth a try
A little nomenclature for you...
OTA - Over The Air update. It's an update that HTC or your service provider pushes to your phone when it does a check-in, if it is more current than the version your phone is running. Basically it's a software patch for the system software located in your phone.
Seeing that you don't know what an OTA is yet, I can deduce that a rooted phone definitely isn't your problem. I think you should check your phone for updates (Settings -> About phone -> System updates -> Check for updates) and see if anything pops up after you hit okay.
If you find an OTA and the problem still persists, you may find a new SIM card would be an ideal option. Let me explain myself here:
When Cingular made the switch to AT&T I was still using a Cingular labeled SIM card. It worked fine until AT&T switched to 3G. When I got a 3G phone, I found that I couldn't get 3G no matter what I tried, because for some reason the SIM spec didn't support 3G. So I had to switch my SIM to get 3G. I've found that with each new spec that comes out, often times the best way to go is just to switch the SIM out each time you get a new phone. Might take a few minutes longer getting your contract up, but new SIMs seem to be sent out to our store (which is a AT&T/T-Mobile vendor) every time a new network spec is introduced by the carriers. I'm not entirely convinced that this is just a strange "coincidence".

Hehe thank you, but I do indeed know what rooting is etc., but the phone we're talking about isn't rooted so it's not the problem.
Just because I haven't bumped into the word OTA doesn't mean I don't know how the updatesystem from HTC works
And yes, it's the latest version, just got a update ticking in, dunno if it fixed the problem yet.

The recent update solved the problem (for my Desire z),
it was an HTC bug
Sorry for the late answer, but one day the mobile just decided to empty it's inbox for whatever unknown reason, and well, that solved the problem.
But thanks for all the answers, once again
the htc sense messaging app is horrible. the dates and times are wrong and it is like a pig. openeing, sending, reading are all slow.
install the vanilla android messaging app as shown here then you dont have to install third party
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846231&page=12
SYMPTOM: can't see any mobile networks
BACKGROUND: I've been using htc one x for a month now. Initially on three, but their signal was unusable at home, so sim-unlocked and switched a couple of weeks ago to giffgaff ( a virtual network on top of the UK o2 network).
All has been fine, until today. I sent a few texts & calls in the morning, and mobile data was working. Since then, I can't see any mobile network.
wifi is fine.
Search Networks pops up "Error while searching for networks" and finds none.
No software changes of any sort since last successful call. No changes at all today, at least until I tried to diagnose the problem.
Running stock rom, with the WW update of a couple of weeks ago (1.28.771.9.CL56522 release-keys) -- neither S-OFF nor unlocked bootloader.
Nothing obvious to me in the normal or radio logcat logs.
The only thing I did after the last successful call was to run sensorly to try and map a trip. I've used this before without any problems. It got no connection but I thought nothing of that. I've since uninstalled it just in case it could somehow be interfering with the radio.
THINGS I'VE TRIED:
No, the airplane mode isn't on, and mobile is. I've toggled airplane from settings and power switch, many times
recreated the APN
checked other phones - yes there are a number of networks visible
tried the original o2 sim - same problem
safe mode
cold boot
reboot, reboot, reboot
obviously I haven't pulled the battery...
turned off wifi, in case it was somehow interfering
HTC diagnostic tool
factory reset
confirmed imei is not blocked
Any ideas? Bearing in mind that I'm looking for something which can happen spontaneously.
Interestingly, while writing this I've just noticed that Baseband version shows as Unknown. That worries me - is it possible that my radio partition has spontaneously corrupted itself?
I did speak to 02 support - they said to take it into a shop for warranty repair. I don't want to try a custom ROM just yet -- not when I might have to use the warranty. But is there any way to force it to reinstall the stock rom (preferably not involving windows)?
I have the same problem as well and flashing custom roms did not solve it for me. But for me even the IMEI number is shown as UNKNOWN...I haven't done anything special to get this issue, one day when I woke up the phone could not connect to any network.
I have tried a lot of different methods but with no success. I don't think we can do anything about the baseband without S-OFF.
If a hard reset fails, then it's time to think about returning the unit. Either get a refund or get it replaced.
This may be irrelevant; but I've had this happen to me on my GNexus. I solved it by going back to stock and it just fixed itself overnight.....
my HTC One X did the same after about 2 weeks. Gave it back to supplier, waiting my replacement.
Even tested with a different SIM card, did a hard reset. Problem stayed the same.
Im curious did any of you find a resolution to this? it happened to me a while ago but yet to fing a solution. HTC refuse to fix under warranty because it is unlocked.. i am currently waiting for the next official update to see if that fixes anything but the way things are looking that could be a while..

It sounds like a fault, probably the radio chip has just stopped working, no software is going to repair that. If it was a software problem, there would be hundreds or thousands of people all having the same issue.

I really have tried to avoid posting but I'm really not sure what to attempt next. I've been through a few threads on the XDA as well as trawled Google but I've not really come up to much.
Basically my One X has been fine since I got it up until the last couple of weeks, I'm not entirely sure if that coincided with a software update or any other changes I could have made but I never seemed to have a problem initially.
I've been using GO SMS since I got the phone, but having just re-installed the app to no avail and having just tried the exact message within a 60 second window through the standard messager it still did not send. This has happened in alternative locations too, so it doesn't appear to be signal based on where I am. After the 4th attempt and the message would not send I put my phone into Airplane mode to reactivate the sim, after doing so and turning it off the message sent.. So it might even be network related.. I've no idea! I've removed the sim card and left it for a few minutes to see whether when it's reinserted if there is still a problem, failing that though I am out of ideas!
Just for your reference I am with Vodafone, totally stock phone as it comes out of the box running the updated 1.29.401.11 software
Any help greatly appreciated.

You are not alone my friend.
