I recently switched my KFHD 8.9 from twa_priv's CM11/SGT7 to Hashcode's official nightlies. Both ROMs are awesome. I have one problem since the switch though...
On the official CM11, when the tablet is in portrait mode (buttons on top), the volume buttons are reversed -- left is up and right is down. Landscape (buttons to right) is correct. Inverted portrait (buttons on bottom) is correct. Inverted landscape (buttons on left) is reversed.
When I select "Reorient volume buttons" in settings, it reverses the button orientation in Landscape and Inverted Portrait but not in Portrait and not in Inverted Landscape -- so the buttons are reversed in every rotation.
When I was on SGT7 the buttons were oriented correctly by default for Portrait and Inverted Landscape and reversed for Landscape and Inverted Portrait. When I selected "Reorient volume buttons" it would reverse the buttons for Lanscape and Inverted Portrait -- so the buttons were correct in every rotation.
I have been able to reproduce this problem by dirty flashing CM11 over SGT7, by doing a Factory/System wipe and new install of CM11, by flashing different CM11 nightlies, so I think this is a CM11 issue.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Incidentally, and I'm not sure if this is related or not, I find the defined rotations odd (this applies to both ROM's).
0 degrees = Portrait
90 degrees = Inverted Landscape
180 degrees = Inverted Portrait
270 degrees = Landscape.
So the default landscape is upside down. This can be confirmed by playing a game that requires you to fully rotate the tablet, like Naught (there are others but I can't recall what they were). I would have expected 0 degrees = Portrait and 90 degrees = Landscape OR (since this is a tablet), 0 degrees = Landscape and 90 degrees = Portrait.
I did find a similar post from Zavien, with no apparent resolution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50579827&postcount=176
Also what seems to be a related post from twa_priv here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47918184&postcount=19
Also an exchange between Greek2me and Hashcode starting here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48795253&postcount=36
I'm not sure if Hashcode checks this forum. If you are experiencing these same issues and can post to the dev forum, can you ask him to take a look at this thread?
Thanks,
Ken.
Anyone? Bueller?
Is everyone else's volume button orientation correct in the CM11 nightlies?

I know of he reads and responds to his threads. Try posting this in the CM11 8.9 thread. That way you are more likely to get a response from him.

So... I'm reviving my old thread.
I've been running the AOSPA from jb2kred and the volume buttons are wrong with this ROM too... is this because this ROM is based on Hashcode's CM ROM?
Anyway, to recap:
Regular portrait (buttons on top): volume buttons are reversed
Regular landscape (buttons on right): volume buttons are correct
Inverted portrait (buttons on bottom): volume buttons are correct
Inverted landscape (buttons on left): volume buttons are reversed
When I check the "Reorient Buttons" option,
Regular portrait: no change, still reversed
Regular landscape: now reversed
Inverted portrait: now reversed
Inverted landscape: no change, still reversed
So the wrong buttons are reoriented.
This isn't a deal killer of any kind. As far as I know this problem exists in all ROMs except SGT7. And if I had to choose, I'd take getting back the tablet combined nav/status bar any day over fixing this. I'm still OCD enough that it bugs me tho.

Nope, Hascodes ROM is working fine. Paranoid Android suggest to do clean install of their recent update because there were a lot of changes. Did you clean install that ROM? I would suggest to let the dev know so they can address it. Clean install first if you have not though.

Thanks LE... I've gotten get this orientation problem on every build up to the May 1st CM11 and this week's PA. Also tried PAC a while back, same problem. I used to dirty flash but for the last couple of months have only done factory+system wipe and clean install.
I have also confirmed that the orientation problem exists for me during initial setup -- when the wizard is asking me to choose an input language I am in portrait (buttons on top) and the volume buttons are reversed so I know it's not due to any software I've installed.
Maybe it's just my device, but the last SGT7 (before yesterday's build, I haven't had the chance to try that one yet) was fine -- correct default orientation and the reorient buttons behaved as expected.
I will post to the CM and PA devs' threads... just as soon as I have my 10 posts haha.
It sounds like others don't have this issue -- do you think it's at a lower level than the OS? Could it be an issue in the recovery or bootloader?

Stick with 241 and you will be good to go. If you use something like NovaLauncher you can essentially get a nice tablet like UI going.

SystemUI crashes because you have navigation bar enabled (which tablets don't have). You can modify your framework-res.apk to hide the navigation bar (thread HERE) and use something like LMT launcher or button savior to get home/back/etc. keys. Then it won't crash anymore. I've done this and it works fine. If you are on the 4.0.4 verizon ROM, you can find the modified framework in the thread HERE (and you can find simple instructions to do it yourself) or flashable HERE.
Alternatively, I've read (but not tested) that adding the following to your build.prop will stop it from crashing at 160 dpi.
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

I gave you your answer. Read my previous post. You just need to hide the navigation bar. I messed around with it on my phone running verizon 4.0.4 by just making the required change to framework-res.apk and changing the screen density to 160 dpi. It's simple and you don't need to be a 'developer'. You ask for help, but don't give any specifics on what ROM version you have. I linked you to 4.0.4 version. If you're not using that verizon ROM, post your framework-res.apk and I'll mod it for you. It literally takes about 2 minutes to do (counting the time to upload it as an attachment here).

I'm pretty sure aokp has the ability to hide the navigation bar already. Look through the settings. Hide it and then switch to 160 dpi.

Thanks for all the help.
I finally got it working on my own.
One thing that remains and it's a biggie. I can't make or receive calls. The phone app crashes every time.
I did a lot of google searches and all the other devs are stuck at the same point.
However, I did find one dev in the Galaxy Note forums that made a ROM that supposedly works in tablet mode.
Any ideas?

Yeah unfortunately I haven't seen anything yet that forces the buttons onto the bottom. The likely reason for this is that the buttons would take up .25-.5 inch of screen real estate in landscape which would not be desirable at all.
I got it to work.
Here is what I had to do.
- Hide the nav bar using AOKP (builds 25 - 27 work)
- Change my dpi to 192 or less
-- This brought out the tablet interface (menu buttons on lower left). Notifications and time on the lower right etc
- Phone app would keep on crashing and I was unable to make or receive calls
-- Fixed this by downloading AOKP build 27 phone.apk for the HTC Incredible and replaced the phone.apk on my nexus. The reason why the phone app would crash was because of the dpi, so I had to find a lower dpi phone.apk.
Was then able to use all the basic functions of my phone including the market. However, the entire thing seemed a unstable (would have rom manager or systemUI crash randomly).
I'm giving it up for now. Hopefully some dev will see the value in getting this working and create a complete ICS rom for it.

I figured out that 180 dpi is the lowest you can go and not have the phone app crash. The launcher lags when running landscape though.

You can replace the phone.apk with one from another device send have it working. I don't remember which device, but I read it in the tablet rom thread in the CDMA galaxy development forums at rootzwiki.

I apologize if this question is old hat. I really did try searching the forums for it in advance. Perhaps I was formulating the search in such poorly. I'm relatively unfamiliar with Android terminology.
Anyway, so I have a KF running the ROM mentioned in the title, the CM10 w/ STG7 improvements by twa_priv. Latest iteration. My first Android ROM for the KF, though, was "Jandycane." I switched off of it because A. it couldn't run Chrome and B. my device had absolutely abysmal battery life while using it. But Jandycane's Trebuchet launcher had an option that allowed you to have an app dock on both sides of the home screen simultaneously. It also adjusted far better to switching between portrait & landscape.
Does anyone know the "mode" I'm talking about? Or if there's some way to enable it on other ROMs besides JC? Is there a way to independently install a version of Trebuchet within this mod that allows for dual docks? I'd really like to stick with the ROM I'm on except for this one feature.
I don't know if there is a way to have two app docks. I know you can't have the phone app dock (bottom center) and tablet app dock (upper right) together obviously. If you want easy access to your app dock, though, I would recommend using one of the "gestures" that you can use. It is located in the settings under Launcher, and is the last row. I don't have the button for the app dock enabled because I use the swipe down gesture to control opening up my apps.
As far as switching between portrait and landscape, if you have Auto-rotate screen enabled, it should work pretty well. It does lag a little bit, but I don't think there's anyway to get around that. You might try the auto rotation app featured at this website: http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/nexus-7/44113-how-get-auto-rotation-nexus-7-home-screen-app.html but I don't know how well it works, so no guarantees.
oh, and I also am running twa_priv's ROM...

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid it's not about access; it's just about having the "dual docks" option Jandycane has, combined with the stability and flexibility of twa_priv's build.

Lag hasn't been the problem at all. What I was trying to get at is, the way icons rotate with the "dual docks" option makes a lot of sense. The top and bottom in portrait become the left and right in landscape, while the center rows & columns remain in the same positions they would have been otherwise. Things which are situated properly in landscape also look good in portrait, and vice versa. Without dual docks, rotating the icons basically behaves the same way the iPad does; if you set it up in portrait, landscape will look terrible. And vice versa.

ACTUAL Q&A
Remember these guys take a lot of time out of their lives to do all this for free. They build the rom the way they want it, and they use it too. Be respectful, if you don't like the way it is or what they chose, then move on and use what you prefer.
Here is the Q&A part.
I am having troubles installing the Liquid Illusion rom: INSTALL PROCESS
Boot into recovery: From Power off
-Volume UP & Home button & Power Button at the same time! Hold until little vibrate and Blue text in top left corner, now you can release.
-wipe data\factory reset, cache, system.
-Install ROM
-Install GAPPS (Google APPS) Latest 13, Mar 01
-Boot & let sit for 5 minutes (lets cache and scripts run)
-Sign in to Google and if Restoring I feel it's best to let it sit and install all those apps before messing with the phone.
-Enjoy, or how some say it "PROFIT"
If dirty flashing from this rom and OP does not require a Dirty Flash
The recommended upgrade procedure should be:
-Backup/Nandroid - Optional
-Format /System - Should be automatically done
-Wipe cache
-Wipe Dalvik cache
-Install ROM
-Install GAPPS
-Reboot System
List of features
If they aren't new then... cool story lol. I'm gonna be so mad if the base changes again MIKE!!!!!!
Here is stuff for xposed settings and dpi and what not. I dont use any of this at all, but most like and love to tinker so I will leave it here for you guys.

Currently Known bugs, work arounds, and suggestions/tips.
-A2DP (streaming music and phone calls) its fixed with 4.2.2 except for a couple of unhappy users.

-Getting an error reading "cannot read /data/xposed/modules.whitelist", you need to go to System settings>Interface>DPI Installer>Install. It will stop the popup.
-CMFileExplorer http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1451113&d=1351866036
(with this app, go to settings>general settings>access mode>select root access mode> go back to main page get root by pressing "parent folder" over and over til you can't no more.)
-Battery!!!!!!
It will improve as the days go by, or get worse depending on what you do, NO one can tell how good battery is until at least 2 charges, so don't ask "how is battery" 6 hours after it is uploaded. Battery varies for every person, I don't play many games on my phone, Bike Race is the only one. I get 4 hours on screen time, and 12 hours of use. With MY light usage I get 1 day 16 hours with 2.5-3 hours screen on time. Everyone will have different results with their phones setup differently.
-Screen shot is done by Volume down and Power! Or by "power menu" settings>rom control>power menu>Select "Show ScreenShot" hold power button to view.
-"I don't see a 4g/H symbol" You may need to flash the latest radio from here to see it, you are getting your normal speeds regardless though. Here is the link to flashable modem List - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1860592

Here are some alternate kernels or OC/UV and some mods too.(OverClock and UnderVolt)
These are not supported by the Dev (although he does like Ktoonsez! I like it too mostly for the option to lower Haptic Feedback.) If you are going to report something make sure you state what kernel you are on to help us out.

Re: [Q&A] Illusion ROM
Not really question but a list of some apps that are not playing nice with aokp build.
1.)Starbucks official card as well as "my Starbucks card" bar code shows is in landscape mode while in portrait no way to switch it around so useless to scan your orders
*solution: use your plastic card, use another smart device like tab, another phone or device like iPod touch etc.
2.)Pandora radio sometimes gets stuck on the station so you can not change station. Also you can not add a new station
*solution either wait or close out Pandora then reopen the app and you should be able to change station
*to change station do so on another device like PC, phone tablet etc.
Have no idea if this is specific to this ROM aokp(Pandora had same issue with cm10 base) or if this is just typical of 4.2.1 itself

Just noticed that with the Starbucks a lot of apps are forced into going into landscape mode some can handle it well and others can't like the Starbucks apps mentioned above

Can't download?
ummmm sound quality issues? any fixes im running tmo gs3 and the sound quality went down.. also did you include an ota updater if so i dont see it as an app..dont get me wrong this is the best rom as far as aokp and cm based roms ive ran. but ive been using frosty for so long wanted something new.
Re: [Q&A] Illusion ROM
Got a folder question. It's super annoying. Here's the scenario. Downloaded some music in a zip file. Extract it and in my music apps it has each song listed 2x. Looks like one is in my 0/ folder and the other in my legacy/ folder. If I delete either one. It deletes both. How do I avoid the linking of the 2 folders?

Re: [Q&A] Illusion ROM
I think the external speaker is still something in the works within coding. I use headphones daily and they still same the same to me doesn't matter what ROM I use. I always remove any "sound mods" in any ROM I try.
As for the folder issue, I haven't a clue. Remove all of them and save them to your computer and transfer them over and place on external. That's what I do and have no issues at all.

Re: [Q&A] Illusion ROM
There aren't any in this ROM besides DSP and music fix I believe but I havent touched those. External speaker is the way it is until AOSP code is 100% complete. Its distorted at its loudest it seems to me. I never have my phone set to max.

is there any way to disable 4th automatic rotation(upside down) i got with omega rom?
id like to have only 3 like on stock rom("home", landscape, landscape)
that 4th rotation upside down is REALLY annoying me and totally unecessary, cant surf internet in landscape while laying in bed on my side(screen rotates upside down)
rotation lockers from the market is not a solution.
i asked in omega topic, even sent email to developer but no answer:crying:
that rotation really bothers me:crying:
Hello
Did u find the solution for that?
yea, installed other rom
but as i can see in omega rom changelog, developer removed 4way rotation from v17
try disabling smart rotation before you flash a new rom!

Greets!
In a nutshell: looking for a way to hold my screen up-side-down and have it show correctly. Basically I wan to put it in my dash holder up-side down so that the usb charging port is facing the bottom. That way, I dont have to try an get my charging and audio cables to reach all of the way to the top!
I have found an app that lets me change to landscape, but not completely all the way around. My iPad does this with ease by default. Any clue on how to change the orientation so that I can hold my phone up-side-down but still have the screen showing correctly?
Also, running Slim 4.2.2 Build5 if that makes a difference.
Thanks!
One of the settings (display maybe?) has what screen orientations are enabled. 180 is off by default.

Stock CM and many ROMs based off it has this option BUT they will not enforce this on all apps AND it will not work on lockscreen (i.e. even if you lock it 180 in settings, you'll have to unlock in 0 degrees).
I've investigated the same problem quite much and found "Ultimate Rotation Controls" to be the only solution that can force all apps including the lockscreen to rotate in any direction you want (while other similar apps also can force apps to rotate but fail on lockscreen).
