Simple Question. Why are you using the ROM and Kernel that you are using. What does it give you that makes you stick with it?
ROM: - CyanogenMod 11
The most popular ROM available. Has some really good features and provides quick updates. Though I am thinking of switching to another ROM because it's become real slow now.
Kernel - - DirtyV
Definitely the most popular Kernel on the forums now. Much faster than CM stock Kernel. Battery life is average.
ROM - Dreams – Because it's my built and it has everything what I need.
Kernel - AOSPA kernel with some minor changes by me – Because I don't flash custom kernels. ––Soon 3.4 kernel when it works on tuna!
I've tried several roms and ultimaetly, I got tired of flashing a new rom every week (sometimes 3-4x a week) and I landed on Vanir with their stock kernel.
It's not amazingly great, but it will do until I found one that better.
Anyone?
Have tested every ROM to date from 4.2 to 4.4.2 and I still have been using PA 4.1.2 ROM w/Zen kernel combo for the past 1.5 yrs, since it's the only one that works exactly like I want and also stable.
Main features being full tablet mode w/status/navigation/notification bar all at the bottom(if needed) but mostly used in extended desktop mode w/out the crappy built-in ROM PIE Controls, fully functioning stock browser:
LiquidSmooth - many features but no slowdowns like on some other ROMs
Fancy or DirtyV - constant and frequent updates to make them even better

Its hard for me to tell as my battery is pretty old and last really short on every combination but I guess its fine as most people say so.

How old is your battery?
Cause it shouldn't be much older then mines and I'm still getting a full days worth of battery life from 4.1.2 ROM.
That's including 40+ mins of BT audio streaming in the car(BT is never ever toggled off), 20+ mins of talk time, all play store updates are auto over data, push email, weather/stock widgets update every 30 mins on home screen and screen set to auto brightness.
Might be worth it to buy a replacement battery.

I never bought another battery, so its around year and 7-8 months. I would buy it but Im thinking to buy new phone soon anyway so thats the reason I stuck with this poor battery. And I know battery is not that old but I charge it like 2 times at least everyday, maybe thats the reason it lost some of its capacity.
Anyway, your resulsts are amazing, espcialy BT turned on all time
Rom: SlimKat Stable 4

Vanir + SmithyV. Fast and simple.

Vanir 4.3.1 Final with standard kernel
Super stable and very fast + no problem with the well known memory leak/bug after a few days :good:
.
Shiny ROM - I've tried some ROMs and this is the most stable and fast imho
franco.Kernel r396
Cm remix with default kernel. Awesome rom and kernel
sorry if my english hurts someone
CM11 snapshot + build in kernel
use many rom and kernel before, some of them very smooth and fast, but not stable most of the time when flash an update.
CM11 snapshot build give me the best what i want.
Rom: CM11 - Dont know why
Kernel: Fancy forever
LiquidSmooth + DirtyV or SmittyV, total badass performance and bleeding edge commits
CM11 Snapshot + DirtyV-SR
CM is really stable and pretty close to the stock while having few useful features.
Dirty-V is suuuuper smooth and SR version gives additional RAM.
resurrection + fancy 45. super smooth and fast

Currently I use MIUI (1.11.11), but it has a few bugs like WLAN is not reconnecting. The speed isn't that good, but MIUI looks better than most roms
I'm looking for a stable and fast ROM.
Perfect would be:
-Android 2.3 or higher
-NO big bugs
-720p recording enabled
-support for the bigger Defy+ battery
Any suggestions?
CM7 last stable?? Allredy stesting battery on it. No major bugs, stable and really fast, faster than MS2Gibger and stock 2.3.4. I had only one FC from yesterday when I installed it and it was Market when installed 62 apps at the same time.
Sent from Defy+ CM7 (7.1.0-11)
CM7 is fast and stable. But does it support HD video capture? I have installed MS2ginger2.1. Supports many languages. It is fast enough I think and supports HD video capture. Moreover, the battery life is amazing. There are some posts about it...
Looks like CM7 is gonna get installed. 720p is not that important (just nice to have).
Does it support the bigger battery or does it get stuck at 83%~ and won't charge anymore? MIUI (whis is based on CM) has this bug.
720p maybe gonna be supported in next CM7's and You need to patch battery support but didn't tried it yet. I'm using 1500 from old Defy cause I didn't format 1700 yet and still testing this build and it's still connected to pc.
Hey !
I'm also looking for a smooth & stable rom.
I don't need the last features.
Currently, I'm using CM-10-20131030-NIGHTLY. Which doesn't crash and so, but it's not smooth.
I didn't install any widget, and I got battery drains.
Any recommendation ?

Hi,
the OmniROM 4.4.2-20140202 is very smooth and stable.
Links are in the development thread.
Hi !
It's still under development it's it ? I'm a bit afraid of something that has not been tested and validated for a while.
I don't need the last version of Android. I just want something smooth and stable.
The last Android 4.4.2 (kitkat) is the fastest Android version for the Defy.
That's why I also recommend the OmniROM version and not the CM11 version. OmniROM runs with me stable and very fast for 1 month. If you want to take it try not the latest version take the 20140202 version.

Thanks for your suggestion.
As my phone (Nexus 5) will soon be back from repair, it didn't take the time to reinstall my phone.
But if I need to reinstall my defy, I will follow your advice.
CM7 not faster than CM11?
What about White Rabbit 1.7.1 or Maniac?

Been using this rom since yesterday, so far so good
UI seems a *little* bit laggy sometimes compared to the stock 2.3.6 GB rom, but so much more functionality in Omni.
What about battery life with Omni? Better than stock rom?

Highly recommend SlimKat, anny build you like. I'm running two defy+ on it, one on 3.85 build, other on latest 4,both very stable, didn't notice anny bug,no random reboots, no lag, memory & bat. friendly, amazing look... thanks to TJKV and all contributors on this GREAT ROM.:good: Just try it!
Im using slimkat too its really good except the camera doesnt work for me when i use it my phone reboots :/
I'm on SlimKat build 4.0 since release and it's a great rom. Battery life is reliable and it's fast and stable. The camera works fine (720p etc).
Theres only issue with reboot to recovery, which can be easly fixed by replacing one apk (click).
And sometimes battery percentage is stuck at 99-100% (click).
My settings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52086816&postcount=19
There was a great 3.6 build which was almost bugfree for me (at least it didn't need any fixes).
so am i the only one with the camera problem on slimkat?
Have no issues with camera (did you set up Video Encoder to MPEG4?), just one or two reeboots in to recovery since i'm using SlimKat, but there is an easy fix like Stoku wrote. Yes, that little bug about battery percentage...
All in all - feel like my beloved Defy is reborn, fresh, fast, stable...feel like i have 3/4 of new phone:victory:
Again, thanks a lot to TJKV, thanks to all of you kind and good people for spending your time and sharing your knowledge with all of us! THANKS!:good:

After a while of using this (Omnirom), the only slightly annoying bug I encountered was that the camera would stop working (regardless using the stock camera app or another one), after having taken lots of photos.
A simple reboot and the camera would work again

So it's very like stock rom, my green lens defy always did that.
I'm now on CM11 and camera is (at least) as stable as stock, haven't had the camera stopped working..
Good to know.
I have a green lens too.
Now running the latest homemade Omnirom build (omni-4.4.2-20140518-mb526-HOMEMADE.zip) from Struq's google drive.
I shall see if the same bug occurs.
Hey guys I have galaxy w (I bought it 10 or 12 days ago).Don't worry i studied my lesson.I know how to root, flash, install apk etc.
I rooted my phone and installed REM ICS.But i'm not happy with it.Because it has a few problems
In the first place, i want to tell you what i'm looking for.
I just want proper sms app (no mms converting), WORKING gps, menu customization [not by date or title (i'm happy with touchwiz)]
Most important -> goot battery life. That's all folks.
But i can't find a rom that meets my wishes.
Now i'll install rebel rom 3.0.6.
But if you have a recommendation PLEASE let me know.
p.s. : I'm sorry if there are grammar mistakes. Thanks in advance. :good:
CyanogenMod Alpha 8 version should be good to you
but you have the SMS to MMS converter on everyrom (i think) & touchwiz
but normally in options you can adapt it
good batterylife & performance
Or BioHazard has it all (based on cyanogenmod)
just flash the ROM + extra sms file (to get normal sms lay-out) - Biohazard customisation - good batterylife & performance (& touchwiz)
has jellybean 3 features & customisation
EhndroiX is a nice rom based on cyanogenmod
but it has it flaws, batterylife isn't perfect but it's a smooth ROM
it also has touchwiz and Jellybean lay-out
Personally i'm running EhnDroix right now but i'm thinking to switch to cyanogenmod (due to the better batterylife) or biohazard
Now about the GPS function you can use Google Maps / Navigation, you can also download Sygic GPS (look on some forums for a "free" version of it )
then you will have a free offline GPS system with TomTom maps navigation
i hope i helped you out a bit

Ive been using SGW for a lot of time now, when i had the stock rom i used ADW laucher for the menu. As for the battery life, keep 3G turned off or install JuiceDefender, it turns on 3g every X minutes, instead of keeping it on all the time. It also adjusts the brightness. My battery would last nearly 3 days that way with moderate calling.
Hugs.
Also i wonder if there is something wrong with my original samsung charger. When i charge my phone with its original charger, battery drains quickly (%85 in 2.2 hours). But when i charge it with my friend's htc's charger it downs to %97 in 2 hours.Just weird.

As I know Rebel ROM is not coming with a TW launcher, you may try Black Notes Last Page if you wish, it came with a TW launcher, just for your info, in Black Notes, you would have to reboot your phone after running the 99SuperCharger init.d script, as it may cause you unable to receive your message, but it wouldn't really affect you if you don't run the script. Hope it helps.

Are you using the USB cable as charger? That one will be much slower than the charger. For a decent battery life, I would recommend you to use a GB ROM with Juice Defender at this moment, because the battery life for CM9 may be vary from version to version at this moment.
I use its original charger (mini USB).I installed rebel rom it seems like it's okay. But i'm not sure yet.
Ok it sucks more i know it now.SMS problems, slow browsers, performance sucks
Looking for good battery life? Most of the GB roms provide good battery life. Not so sure with ICS roms, right now. If you don't mind using GB rom, i would recommend you MUTANT ROM, not bad.

If you are looking for an economical premises ROM battery GB ROM only the best in my opinion.
I myself have come back to GB after I felt in CM9 b8 only for reasons of battery.
I myself use kezra v4 final ROM, kernel xxlm8. And what you need everything works fine here.

Also, try upgrading baseband. Older baseband might have bugs that made it too aggressive and/or not smart enough to tune power usage.
Back in the CM9 thread, someone posted that he experienced a great boost in battery life after upgrading baseband.
Word of caution: make sure that the newer baseband is compatible with your country's networks.
_____ Galaxy W + Mutant ROM + xda app _____
Hi there, i opened this thread because i'm desperately trying to find a ROM/kernel which meets my needs.
I'm looking for:
Stability; Bugfree; Battery; Audio; these are my primary objectives (i'd like to have some customization option but i don't care as long as i have those)
I've tried so far:
Stock ROM with Franco.Kernel + LOUDERmod: PRO: Fantastic Battery
BAD: It had some bugs (WiFi disconnecting and then stuck into a loop searching for AP reboot needed) and the volume did not increase; So i flashed another rom right away.
Minco v4: PRO: Fantastic Battery life, fantastic audio
BAD: Same bug as the franco.Kernel, audio stop working while listen to music or youtube or other stuff while the 3,5mm jack is connected (tested on another galaxy nexus with different headphones same problem)
Codename Android: PRO: Fantastic Battery life, nice audio, quite stable, nice features.
BAD: Same bug on WiFi as the previous ones, after 2 weeks apps were crashing randomly so i got sick of the WiFi problem and flashed another rom;
Paranoid Android: PRO: Nice Battery life, nice audio, stable, very good features;
BAD: First ROM without the damned WiFi bug, a nice rom indeed. There are some bugs though and the "Per APP color" System slowed my nexus a lot. I kept it 'till a week ago when i flashed a cyano nightly
Cyanogen MOD: PRO: nice audio, stable, bug free, so much features that i'm still discovering things after a week.
BAD: Battery life. I need it for work.
I need some advices. I need a ROM (or the stock with a kernel) that i can keep for long times... the stock rom is nice, but battery life and audio suck.
I've had little to no problems with Air Kernel Weeklys, Glados v2.1 is also a very good kernel. I've had problems with Franco, Zen Kernel, Tuna and Nyan. Air Kernel is my daily driver, gonna give Ink a try. No roms are trouble free, I'm on a VZW Nexus and have had good luck with Alien rom, Factory 2.2 and now Atom.

Team EOS.
Flash the latest from here http://goo.im/devs/teameos/roms/eos3/nightlies/maguro/ and Gapps. Best experience I've had. it's unique, and smooth as you like. I get a whole day's normal use out of the battery as well (on 3G during the day at work).
Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone has had chance to install CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM and if it's good? I'd imagine it to be quite buggy at the moment due to the fact that it's only just been released. Quite keen to update to latest android 4.2.1 but don't want to update to a buggy ROM.

I just flashed this rom to test it out. Lots of graphical bugs(especially when using the camera) and all of the S-pen features DO NOT WORK. And i also have noticed that my power off button whenever i click it , it does not turn off the screen to go in lockscreen. Other then that..man i was so happy to see AOSP i love it so damn much but..this is just not for me i wish these bugs were fixed and then AOSP is on!!! Thanks for the link though.
No worries for the link . I was surprised no one had been talking about it on here before when in posted it. Cyanogen seems that be the most popular ROM because it's Google stock and optimised. currently using ParanoidAndroid which is great. I highly recommend. Hopefully they'll release a 4.2.1 version of that soon!!

No graphical bugs in PA at all (as far as I am aware). I'm really pleased with it. I'd recommend it to anyone. Tablet apps on this phone also work beautifully well. Like YouTube for instance.
Battery life is SLIGHTLY (we're talking marginal) decreased from Samsung ROM. However, to give you an example of how good the battery life still is - I go to work and use my phone throughout the day for Spotify. It's always connected to wifi at work as I have hardly any signal. I am also always connected to GPS so i can get the most out of things like google now etc. I unplug at 8:30 and get home for about 6:30 every night. My battery when I get home is usually 60%. So I can't complain. When I had my iPhone I used to have to stay constantly tethered!!
hi all.
tried a few aosp roms. all great. just some annoying random reboots. im not a heavy customizer. i just like the feel of vanilla android. and also i like smaller dpi settings. currently running ptmr3's jedi rom. excellent rom, havent experienced any reboots. though its a nice rom, i like aosp roms. any out there without random reboots?
also with the kitkat update our note3 is getting, will future roms be more random reboots less or none at all? im suppose to meet someone this coming wednesday to trade my note3 for his nexus5. or should i wait til new roms are cooked up based on the kitkat update for better aosp roms?
also trying to figure out how to remove this damn widget on lockscreen. cant seem to get rid of it.
thanks all

I've been on the unified Note3 CM11 builds and have been enjoying them quite a bit. The only reboots (and lockups) I got were from tweaking my CPU settings...apparently the only parameter that was pissing my phone off was the conservative governor. Also clk_min won't stay at the floor...but aside from slightly compromised battery life CM11 has been near perfect. I'll take the very slight battery life reduction for AOSP...also, the ART runtime is wayyyyyy better than Dalvik. Worth it for that alone. I just enabled that "for good" today but I already expect enough battery life savings to make up the difference (which was admittedly small).
Performance is top notch (even when underclocked to 960mHz), the ART runtime seems to make scrolling, chrome, maps and all around navigation snappy as hell...and I don't have to deal with TWiz. To each their own, touchwiz ain't for me. All the important stuff appears to work (LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, camera, 1080p video recording...I can't even remember the things I used to worry about...everything works fine, even the 'settings bug' is resolved now...)
YMMV, of course.

Thanks. I will try it out after i play around with gummy. Yah im not a fan of touchwiz either. How do i enable ART? i have never tinkered with that. Also regarding cpu tweaking. I dont really bother with that and i still get reboots and lock ups. Most times i just leave the kernel that came with the rom alone and not change it.

WOW. i think i just found me a stable rom to use. installed and been running this rom for more than an hour now with all my usual tweaks and apps installed. and so far no reboots. usually on other aosp rom, i would have had a few reboots already. this is awesooooome. well besides the fact that app settings (xposed) doesnt seem to work since temasek integrated his own lcd density changer on the settings menu. also he just announced yesterday that he is putting his development on hold (temporarily, hopefully). damn!
temasek's UNOFFICIAL CM11 BUILD
so far loving it. will update if any issues occur
