Currently I use MIUI (1.11.11), but it has a few bugs like WLAN is not reconnecting. The speed isn't that good, but MIUI looks better than most roms
I'm looking for a stable and fast ROM.
Perfect would be:
-Android 2.3 or higher
-NO big bugs
-720p recording enabled
-support for the bigger Defy+ battery
Any suggestions?
CM7 last stable?? Allredy stesting battery on it. No major bugs, stable and really fast, faster than MS2Gibger and stock 2.3.4. I had only one FC from yesterday when I installed it and it was Market when installed 62 apps at the same time.

CM7 is fast and stable. But does it support HD video capture? I have installed MS2ginger2.1. Supports many languages. It is fast enough I think and supports HD video capture. Moreover, the battery life is amazing. There are some posts about it...
Looks like CM7 is gonna get installed. 720p is not that important (just nice to have).
Does it support the bigger battery or does it get stuck at 83%~ and won't charge anymore? MIUI (whis is based on CM) has this bug.
720p maybe gonna be supported in next CM7's and You need to patch battery support but didn't tried it yet. I'm using 1500 from old Defy cause I didn't format 1700 yet and still testing this build and it's still connected to pc.

It's still under development it's it ? I'm a bit afraid of something that has not been tested and validated for a while.
I don't need the last version of Android. I just want something smooth and stable.
The last Android 4.4.2 (kitkat) is the fastest Android version for the Defy.
That's why I also recommend the OmniROM version and not the CM11 version. OmniROM runs with me stable and very fast for 1 month. If you want to take it try not the latest version take the 20140202 version.

As my phone (Nexus 5) will soon be back from repair, it didn't take the time to reinstall my phone.
But if I need to reinstall my defy, I will follow your advice.

Been using this rom since yesterday, so far so good
UI seems a *little* bit laggy sometimes compared to the stock 2.3.6 GB rom, but so much more functionality in Omni.
What about battery life with Omni? Better than stock rom?

Highly recommend SlimKat, anny build you like. I'm running two defy+ on it, one on 3.85 build, other on latest 4,both very stable, didn't notice anny bug,no random reboots, no lag, memory & bat. friendly, amazing look... thanks to TJKV and all contributors on this GREAT ROM.:good: Just try it!
Im using slimkat too its really good except the camera doesnt work for me when i use it my phone reboots :/
I'm on SlimKat build 4.0 since release and it's a great rom. Battery life is reliable and it's fast and stable. The camera works fine (720p etc).
Theres only issue with reboot to recovery, which can be easly fixed by replacing one apk (click).
And sometimes battery percentage is stuck at 99-100% (click).

There was a great 3.6 build which was almost bugfree for me (at least it didn't need any fixes).

Have no issues with camera (did you set up Video Encoder to MPEG4?), just one or two reeboots in to recovery since i'm using SlimKat, but there is an easy fix like Stoku wrote. Yes, that little bug about battery percentage...
All in all - feel like my beloved Defy is reborn, fresh, fast, stable...feel like i have 3/4 of new phone:victory:

After a while of using this (Omnirom), the only slightly annoying bug I encountered was that the camera would stop working (regardless using the stock camera app or another one), after having taken lots of photos.
A simple reboot and the camera would work again

So it's very like stock rom, my green lens defy always did that.
I'm now on CM11 and camera is (at least) as stable as stock, haven't had the camera stopped working..

Now running the latest homemade Omnirom build (omni-4.4.2-20140518-mb526-HOMEMADE.zip) from Struq's google drive.

i'm still with stock, ill stay on it until CM10 starts nightlies. stock so far is very smooth, and great battery life.

battery life? Equal to AOKP on ICS (2days standby, 4~5hours screen on time)
smoothness? Perfectly smooth, equal to all the other JB roms I've tried
stability? - No issues yet

I'm running Paranoid Android v1.9.1a (based on JellyBro CM10, I believe?).
Battery Life: Having a hard time seeing much difference between JB- and ICS-based builds. More on that later.
Smoothness: So. Damn. Smooth. Really, really good. Rapid scrolling through APW FB and Twitter widgets would sort of stutter on ICS builds. No such hiccups now. Similarly, when installing/updating apps in the background, my system used to lag really hard. There's still a little bit of stutter, but so much better now.
Stability: I think I had maybe two random reboots in ~3 weeks. Some of those may have been related to experimental versions of the kernel. Hard to say, as I didn't investigate particularly hard.
App Incompatibilities: Haven't run into anything yet, aside from apps which do not play by the Holo UI rules and require an onscreen menu button. (CM10 commits appear to have baked longpress Multitasking button as Menu, though. Or maybe that is all molesarecoming's doing in ParanoidAndroid. In any case, it's excellent.)
Kernel: imoseyon's leanKernel v4.2.0. Stock voltages and frequencies. Using the InteractiveX governor. There were a few experimental builds for v4.1.x that were hotfixes to get it to even boot in CM10-based ROMs. I have the feeling that the few freak reboots I got were related to the kernel's growing pains.
Google Now vs. Siri: Having never used Siri, I can't really speak to that. Google Now is quite nice though! A real step up from the previous, boring Google Search app. Voice recognition is really good, and the few commands that I've played with (setting alarms, getting directions, etc.) were neat. Voice commands aren't really my cup of tea, though. I already think about my phone too much. If I start talking to it routinely, my girlfriend will probably up and leave me. And I probably wouldn't blame her :]
Daily Driver: Obviously recommended if you're a veteran ROM flasher! And definitely painless enough that I think even a newcomer would be just fine.

I am running Bugless Beast Jelly Bean from Pete Alfonso (Verizon Toro). Currently on the 7/24 build but started with 7/9
1. Battery Life is good. Initially it was shaky, but good after I turned off most of the location based Google Now options.
2. Smoothness - Awesome. Big improvement from ICS
3. Stability - Perfect so far
4. App incompatibilities - So far only one, MyTouchTunes. One normal menu selection does not respond to touch. There is another menu with the same thing so it is not a big problem.
5. Kernel - Stock
6. Google now seems cool, shows off phone really well. Not really sure yet of value, and have not spent enough time with Siri to judge.
7. Highly recommended. Better experience than stock 4.04 all around.

I tried jb the day it came out and went back to cm9 because of app incompatibilities. But apps are being upgraded to the point that it's not that much of an issue now, so I made the move to jb.
Went with bigxie's 4.1.1 ROM because of his reputation for releasing very solid, stable ROMs that just work. It also is already rooted and has busybox and gapps preinstalled, which eliminates more hassle. No complaints or issues whatsoever. Smooth as glass and rock solid.
Installed Nova launcher to give me a few of the conveniences I like, at least until a CM10 release candidate comes out. No issues.
Trinity kernel is still in alpha for jb, but after reading some good reports about it, I went ahead and installed it, too. Working great so far with no hiccups. Very good color control and ability to tweak for superior battery life (two of its strong points).
So at this point I'm very satisfied with this combination and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
I don't use Google Now, or even keep GPS turned on at all. I'm a big believer in internet privacy, and Google doesn't need to know about my daily activities. So can't offer an opinion there.
Tried one of the Roms thinking it wouldn't be ready and I'd have to go back to ICS... how wrong was I. Once you've been to JB you'll never go back to ICS... works perfectly well, no issues.
I'm using Jellybro CM10 Kangs.
In battery I notice no difference.
Very smooth for me, no random crashes, reboots or anything like that, everything works.
Only app I had a problem with is Power amp doesn't work right in the notification bar.
My friend has an i4S, even he agrees Google Now kicks Siri's butt. The voice is more human like, pictures come up, its more of a place to get info rather than a novelty like Siri.
I would strongly recommend the ROM I'm using because it has some of the most important things I missed from ROMs; Notification drawer widget, extra lock screen targets, lock screen weather, lock screen calendar, even theme chooser works now.

I RECOMMEND minco rom.thats a rom colabboration between minooch and franco himself.its the best rom ever,with trinity kernel.best performance+battery life.incredible.brtter than any ics or jb rom.

I've been running BAMF Paradigm v.2.0 since it was released a few days ago and I absolutely love it. Battery life is well, the GNex typical battery life. I always have spare batteries charged.
I've had no random reboots and confidently use it as my daily driver. I'm using the kernel that is included with the ROM. I've tried a couple others and rolled back to the stock one right away. I was getting problem with deep sleep on any alternate kernel.
I never used ICS on this phone. I rooted and flashed JB from the day I got it, so I really can't speak the the difference in performance, but I run ICS on my HP Touchpad and I know I would not be happy with it on my phone after having used JB.
I would, without hesitation, tell you to make the leap to JB.
I don't think you'll miss ICS in the least.
Xenon HD is pretty good at this moment.
Dark jelly belly ROM gsm is smooth good battery nice custom keyboard option and extras Google now is great and love jellybean it makes android smooth and fluid great stuff

hi all.
tried a few aosp roms. all great. just some annoying random reboots. im not a heavy customizer. i just like the feel of vanilla android. and also i like smaller dpi settings. currently running ptmr3's jedi rom. excellent rom, havent experienced any reboots. though its a nice rom, i like aosp roms. any out there without random reboots?
also with the kitkat update our note3 is getting, will future roms be more random reboots less or none at all? im suppose to meet someone this coming wednesday to trade my note3 for his nexus5. or should i wait til new roms are cooked up based on the kitkat update for better aosp roms?
also trying to figure out how to remove this damn widget on lockscreen. cant seem to get rid of it.

I've been on the unified Note3 CM11 builds and have been enjoying them quite a bit. The only reboots (and lockups) I got were from tweaking my CPU settings...apparently the only parameter that was pissing my phone off was the conservative governor. Also clk_min won't stay at the floor...but aside from slightly compromised battery life CM11 has been near perfect. I'll take the very slight battery life reduction for AOSP...also, the ART runtime is wayyyyyy better than Dalvik. Worth it for that alone. I just enabled that "for good" today but I already expect enough battery life savings to make up the difference (which was admittedly small).
Performance is top notch (even when underclocked to 960mHz), the ART runtime seems to make scrolling, chrome, maps and all around navigation snappy as hell...and I don't have to deal with TWiz. To each their own, touchwiz ain't for me. All the important stuff appears to work (LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, camera, 1080p video recording...I can't even remember the things I used to worry about...everything works fine, even the 'settings bug' is resolved now...)

Thanks. I will try it out after i play around with gummy. Yah im not a fan of touchwiz either. How do i enable ART? i have never tinkered with that. Also regarding cpu tweaking. I dont really bother with that and i still get reboots and lock ups. Most times i just leave the kernel that came with the rom alone and not change it.
im a flashoholic. & i truley hate touchwiz roms. but ive been a week on AOSB v1.30 (longest ive ever stayed on one rom lol) its smooth & zippy, it has some amazing battery life. also vanir isnt a bad rom.
also switching runtimes is available in developer options under "apps"

thanks. i only had my tmo note3 for about two weeks now. the AOSB v1.30 is not on the TMOBILE NOTE 3 development threads (i did find it). are we allowed to use those roms for our tmo note3? is there anything special i need to do to install roms from there?

The AOSB rom is a universal. Just flash rom + gApps & you're set to go!

WOW. i think i just found me a stable rom to use. installed and been running this rom for more than an hour now with all my usual tweaks and apps installed. and so far no reboots. usually on other aosp rom, i would have had a few reboots already. this is awesooooome. well besides the fact that app settings (xposed) doesnt seem to work since temasek integrated his own lcd density changer on the settings menu. also he just announced yesterday that he is putting his development on hold (temporarily, hopefully). damn!

If You want extremely stable, go for Mokee. We still have official support from it. Second most stable according to Me is Carbon, but it has less frequent updates.

I think crDROID is most stable if your looking for KitKat rom
Never-ever use CrDroid for daily-use, it's kinda nice rom although you'll get alot (well, a few but still) of random reboots, it has very much customization options but with cost of stability.
Carbon Rom was quite nice 4.4.4 but the battery lasts half day with it...so it's also bad idea to use it.
I also used AOSPX, Paranoid, CM 11 and Mokee but can't say much about them because they were on my XS only for a few minutes - didn't liked any of them but I've heard much good things about AOSPX so you can try that one.
Otherwise I don't recommend any 4.4 roms, better stick to 4.1
I would recommend using PA or Carbon, both are stable ROMs of 4.4.4 for Xperia S. Carbon has more customization than PA, but PA is like semi-lollipop. Both give you 721 MB of RAM against 621 MB of stock JB.

AOSPX works very well. Only problem is you can't use your phone for calling. Oops.
Call volume does not do anything AND the other end can't hear you. So if you don't want to talk with anyone it's afine rom

Good for you but it doesn't do much for me.
And for the record, I just had to completely wipe my XS so it's not likely that either.
I guess I'll give PA a shot and if it won't work, I'll go back to 4.1. I'n any case I'm just using the phone as for a 2nd sim card to pick up calls and little else. Stock rom has this aggravating bug with PIN codes where the android phone will keep on crashing, so..
The best overall rom so far
For me the smoothest,fastest and most stable is the carbon rom build 20140808-1848
Also customization options available... try it you wont regret it...
I experienced crdroid, it's a great rom but has some bugs and reboots a few times in a day. I have been using CARBON rom (20141103 build) for 3 weeks, and I'm very happy with it. It's very stable for me.
Well, Paranoid android v4.4.4 also had the same very low voice problem in-call. At least the other guys can hear ME but I can't really hear THEM. I also grabbed the low voice fix and installed it but it didn't help.
I think I'll check the OpenSEMC-U 10.1 now, lots of people seem to like it. (that's 4.2)
Nope, same problem. 4.2.2 CM10.1 has very very low volume in-call as well. And, yes, I did wipe, install new kernel blah bloody blah blah.
*sigh* I guess it's back to the official "android phone has stopped" firmware :crying:

I've been around the forums the past few days and noticed several Android 5.0 lollipop roms for our device. I've tried out a few of them and have been very impressed with how good they are. So I'd like to ask you guys, what are your experiences with any of these Lollipop Roms? Is there any you prefer? What are any bugs you've come across? Is there any advice you'd like to give on flashing or using these roms?
I think this could be a great way to gather our thoughts and keep track of how development is going.

I am eagerly waiting to make one of these roms my daily. Flash every nightly of the cm12 and play around for about an hour but then nandroid back. Not that many issues but still seem buggy and things that i use daily like the IR blaster dont work. I find it amazing how fast the devs were able to get us 5.0 roms so quick! And almost fully functional to! Maybe you can list the roms? To my knowledge the only 5.0 roms iv seen are 2 cm12s and a 5.0 pac.

I think all 3 builds are based on CM12. The 3 lollipop Roms I know of are:

So far I've found Phantomphreak53's CM rom to be the most stable. Only thing not working is video recording which is a common issue amongst all of the lollipop roms. All in all these builds hold up extremely well for Alphas.

I am currently using the CM-12-Unofficial by PhantomPhreak53 and here are my thoughts so far:
I clean flashed the 11/21 build after formatting data (I know this is not required or necessary) and a wipe. With a clean slate, it worked very well with the exception of NFC, double tap to wake, video recording and the resolution was off. Double tap to wake was fixed by editing a file, resolution was fixed with build prop, and I didn't need NFC or video so it was fine.
I dirty flashed the 11/23 build and NFC has been fixed. The video recording still doesn't work and the error "can't connect to camera" pops up after you try. The 11/23 build also fixed double tap to wake, added privacy settings, and fixed the resolution. Some people have noticed battery drain, but I get just about the same I got with stock. I will get about 3-4 hours of SoT with roughly 12-15 hours off the charger. This is all LTE on T-Mobile. Overall, I think 11/23 is good enough for a daily and I am currently using these "nightlies" as my dailies. There are some reports of crashing, but I haven't had any so far.

I was running the Pac Rom build for a few days, but it seems the developer has switched to a nexus 6 and stopped further development. Pac Rom worked extremely well for me, the only issue I ran into was Documents force closing. I switched to the CM12 (11/24) by Phantomphreak53 today. Hopefully it holds up as well as Pac. Phantomphreak53 has been doing an excellent job with updates almost everyday. I'll check in again after spending some more time with this rom. Thanks for the input everybody!
I tried CM12 11/19 and 11/22, but ended up going back to a 4.4.4 rom because of battery life issues (namely NFC service using up my battery), video issues (opening a video in snapchat caused the phone to crash), and some other various instabilities. Is the video issue fixed in 11/24?

It looks like they are working on the video issue, or they changed something because now I don't get a force close but the video freezes and you have to reboot.
As for battery, I would try clean flashing a new ROM, maybe even the 11/25, because I have no misc or NFC battery issues. NFC did show up on the 11/23 rom, but it was very low and I got about the same battery life as I got from CM-11 and stock. Let's see if 11/25 fixes it for good.
EDIT: Scratch that. Taking a video still causes the camera apps to crash. Nothing has changed there.

I'd much rather have the app crash than have to reboot. I guess i'll have to check out 11/25.

I must have done something to cause the reboot. Every time I have tried since it just crashes. I haven't had any reboot issues at all on any of the roms, and I am currently on 11/25. I apologize if my post was confusing.

Things get a bit funky with these roms sometimes. The other day I lost all audio playback on my phone for absolutely no reason. I kept rebooting, but still no sound. I suggest you get everything working as best as you can and make a recovery from it. That way if things get wacky you can just restore and have everything back to how it was.

That's probably a good idea. I have seen some inconsistencies between devices as well. Some people have weird battery drain while others don't, some have problems with AUX and others don't etc. I wonder how much is the ROM, how much was how it was flashed and how much was related to different apps and settings. So far I have had a great experience though, so no complaints here.
I'm guessing none of these lollipop roms have wifi calling?

Go read any single one of the lollipop threads and that question will be answered for you. Literally, any single one of them.
Every other post asks that same question. Gets frustrating even going through the threads anymore. Every other post mentions the video not working too. It even states in the CM12 OP by phantom that the video doesn't work. It always helps to read the entire thread before even flashing the ROM. That way when you flash it and stuff doesn't work you really have no one to blame but yourself. If you use the video camera a lot, just don't flash the ROM. That way when you try and use the video camera and it crashes, you won't go straight back to the thread and complain or mention it doesn't work. The moderators are gonna start going through and clearing all the repeat posts. They shouldn't have to if you just do your research people. That is all.

No rom not based on t-mobile stock will have wifi calling, it is baked in low level. However, if you have a Google voice number and you integrate it with hangouts you can make a call over data with hangouts, if you're on wifi then boom, wifi calling. Can't be done with your carrier number though.
I've tried all three. Was hesitant to try PhantonPhreak53's build but I finally did and haven't left. Updates have been consistent and this rom has been my daily for about a week now. Not really worried about the video recording. I take Photos on Snapchat majority of the time anyway so I can wait patiently for the video recording fix. I'm just glad to have a stable 5.0 lollipop build.
