Ive looked thru the forums i apologize if i missed it. Ive got a sprint samsung galaxy note 2 running 4.3 ive tried to root and install a custom recovery using the toolkit, but it doesnt seem to take the custom recovery. if anybody could please help me.
I haven't tried rooting since 4.1.2, but I used ToolKit to root and it installed a custom recovery. From there, I just flashed the recovery I preferred to use. Maybe be worth while try using ToolKit. I believe there is an option to just install new recovery.

So i know ive gotta flash one of these but which one? Sprint Samsung galaxy note 2 4.3
which ever one you prefer first. I use TWRP. Some use Philz, which is based on TWRP. From what I've read, it may be good idea to go with Philz over TWRP when and after converting to Android 4.3; something about TWRP not backing up or restoring correctly. Obviously there is still ClockWorkMod (CWM). I can't attest to it because I haven't used it in over two years.
Odin doesn't work either.....I've been having the same problem. Been wanting to root my note 2 for some time now but to no avail.

try using odin3 v3.07 to flash philz 6.07.9 that works for me

But I am quite confused about the methods used here. There is a lot of chat about firmware that my friend doesn't seem to have. All I know he has ics. I.have rooted my HTC sensation, Samsung galaxy s3 and a nexus 7 with no issue. But this stuff makes no sense. Am I even in the right forum?

That seems like too much work. Don't y'all have a stock rooted Odin .tar.md5? And the process for installing recovery seems dated. Once rooted you should be able to install twrp or cwm through room manager or goo manager. Or am I wrong?

then this is your process:
download the rom and gapps to your phone's internal sd card.
2) go to download mode and ODIN this to your phone:
http://shabbypenguin.com/k0/ecm/E4GT-EL29-directbootCWM-v3.tar.md5
2) reboot
3) clear dalvik,cache,factory data reset
4) Flash CM10 + gapps
DONE
This from the blog is correct btw... long winded but correct and safe. it has more detailed steps if you need itbut all is required are those 4 items above.

Hi, just rooted my note 2 using Exynos abuse apk, however I then downloaded rom manager so I could flash cwm recovery, I flashed it but when phone goes into recovery it just goes to the stock android one, I've tried it twice now, I even paid and flashed the touch version with the same results, what am I doing wrong? I can't get into cwm recovery. Thanks.

I'm rooted with a custom recovery running M919UVUAMDB.
So if i get it right. Only way to upgrade is to
Odin to stock.
Upgrade and break root.
Root with upgrade.
Re Flash upgraded stock.
Pretty much. Or you can use Skies to do recovery to the lastest firmware, then root again.

Been searching for last hour or two and this is only thread I've found this specific topic. Just got S4 today coming from a GNex so somethings are new to me.
Is there a detailed instructions somewhere on how to do this?
I'm also rooted on M919UVUAMDB and trying to figure out the best way to upgrade to MDL so that I can re-root again.
Install Kies. Under Tools setting, select recovery and put your phone to download mode. Let Kies do the rest.

Thanks for clarifying. Just to double check, would cwm recovery affect the kies firmware recovery process?
No. Kies would wipe it off during recovery process and install the latest firmware.

lol I've searched around too, but made my own conclusions. ahha
Not attempting to promote any particular roms but Wicked v2 is running mdl update with the mdb modem and radio and smoother than silk on s4, Revolt requires manualy updating with setuidremoval but has a great writeup how to do so as does Infamous S4, I personally can confirm Revolt and Wicked are working flawless as long as the minimal theming currently in both is fine with you.

I just got a Note 2 and downloaded Odin and a TWRP recovery and tried to flash it but it doesn't say succeed until two minutes later after the phone completely reboots. When I reboot into recovery its still the stock recovery.

Did u root it before you flashed recovery? You didn't mention it. That needs to be done first

Didn't need to. I got it to work. I unchecked auto-reboot and it worked. All I did was flash the TWRP .tar and flash a rom. Rooting first was not needed.
Agreed...
Root is not needed if a user wishes to:
Make a pure stock backup....or current rom backup...
Flash another rom that already contains root...
Recovery is generally only needed for those functions anyway...(that's 90% of my time spent there)...
Everything else is a bonus....courtesy of our generous development team....g
Anyone know where I can get the most recent stock system and stock recovery tars to flash in Odin or what they're called? I have to go back to full stock.
Have some quick questions.
I rooted my phone using this method:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlVCjtRUrgs&feature=youtube_gdata_player
After I root, I try to open Supersu but it says the binarys cannot be installed and it closes, also the "root access allow" prompt does not appear on any root applications.
They just get stuck at "searching for root rights."
Is there a preferred root method to use on this S4?
Which one works best?
Well anyway, I flashed wicked rom (because the phone IS rooted) and whenever I try to flash anything or merely even just a reboot, my phone soft bricks and I have to boot TWRP, wipe and install the rom again.
I only have this problem AFTER I have installed a custom rom.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

This is one of the reasons I went back to stock after trying out cm10.1 and 4.3 leak. I am kinda liking the features TW adds to Android. Just disable the apps you don't use or root stock and use TB to uninstall what you don't need.

Thank you sir for the reply.
I indeed found the problem.
It was the root method I was using.
I did the CF-AUTOROOT method and it canceled out all previous problems.

Thanks for the late reply.
I used the cable that came with the phone.
I've also used other cables for various other Odin flashes and all works as it should.
Pretty sure that's not a factor, and far from a problem.
