[Q] Power History graph WIFI bar - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

Hi, my t-mobile M8 has some weird issue. I never use the wifi and it is always off, but it shows in the history option under power menu that the wifi is constantly on.
I have also tried turning wifi on, using it sometime, turning it off again, completely disabling the location services, closing all the apps that may use wifi. No change in the line.
Is it some defect with my device? Or is it the same for everyone else?

Mines the same. I think its a bug in the graph.

thank you for checking, I was going to return the device for a new one. It is still in the 14-day replacement period.

This is a "feature." It allows the device to more precisely find your location by polling nearby wi-fi networks. I think you can disable this in the advanced wi-fi settings.

[Q] Can't enable Mobile Network...help?

Hi guys,
You know how when you enable Airplane mode Bluetooth, Bluetooth settings, 4G, 4G settings, Mobile network, and Internet sharing become shaded and you are unable to turn them on?
Well, for some reason my Mobile Network option is shaded/unselectable, although I am certainly not in Airplane mode. In fact, both mobile network and internet sharing are shaded, yet M.N.'s box has a green checkmark and underneath it says, "Turning on...". Still, it remains like that without any change.
Since this issues has occured, the 3G logo in the status bar has disappeared, which leads me to think that the phone isn't enabling data connections, not that there is something wrong the MetroPCS's end.
The only thing I could think of was that a few days ago, I was playing with turning on/off 4G setting and that I turned off/on the 2G-3G toggle in the Extended controls widget; that however, only directed my to the Mobile network settings where Data Roaming, Data Roam Guard, ect. are all enabled.
What should I do? I tried being as detailed as possible, and hopefully there is a solution as I am getting really tired of no internet on my phone. Thanks for any help.
By any chance to you have an older version of switch pro installed. This caused issues with my mobile network a while back.
If so, uninstall it.

I do not have it install, but I will try uninstalling any app that I have installed in the last week; maybe you are onto the something there. I do have a couple of control/settings/toggle widgets. I'll report back.

[SOLVED] WiFi not working properly? 3G/4G stays on due "My Account" App

So when i am home i have my WiFi on, which means my 4g is off. Now when the WiFi is on, i can not receive or send pictures. Also cant use the web or do anything like that but just send and receive text/calls.. and reason to this? maybe i have certain settings on that i don't know about? If i remember right, my wifi worked properly a few days ago.. but i cant remember exaclty. Help please? Thanks
no one knows?
Power cycle your router?
I've been having a different wifi issue. at home I have only edge coverage but I have petty good cable internet so obviously I want to use my wifi but for some reason the phone connects to wifi yet still uses the mobile network unless I turn off mobile data. My wifi sleep policy is set to never btw. Any ideas?

Edit
Also if I turn off mobile data while connected to wifi then turn it on while still connected it stays on wifi fine. Its like the mobile radio is preventing the wifi connection from fully initializing or something
Same issue!

I am having the same issue. I have to go into airplane mode, then turn on wifi to actually be able to use it... otherwise seems to default to mobile radio...
I have the same issue..this is what i do to work around it though:
1. Go to Settings>Wireless and Networks>Mobile Networks
2. Uncheck packet data, and then check it again.
Once i do this, my wifi works again, let me know if it works for you.

yes, does seem to work, but agree it's frustrating.... Hope they fix this soon.
Got this from the battery thread. This actually fixes the wifi issue on my SG2
The program is called Llama and can be downloaded from the market. I deleted all the default events and just added these 2. Hope this helps for all of you with this issue.

Try freezing "my account". It toggles data even with WiFi is on. Try it and let me know.

Actually saw this tread and had Llama installed with these 2 profiles added and was till getting this issue... Going to try Freezing My Account to see if that helps... I know it helped with my wifi issues on my G2x.
Update: Nothing seems to work now. Can't have Wifi and cell radio on at the same time... can get calls but nothing else...
I've seen it occasionally as well. I haven't needed to reboot though. It usually recovers after I toggle WiFi on and off and mess with some other things.

I notice the same issue and I also toggle wifi on and off to get it to work back again.

Same here. I have to toggle wifi on/off and sometimes reconnect through wifi settings to get it back.

Yes, either return or warranty exchange for a new one, I have not noticed this issue with my device at all.
I've been having the same issue and it definitely causes excessive battery drain. Sometimes toggling wifi off then on works. Other times it requires toggling mobile data off then on.
I had it happen just now and tried freezing 'my account' in titanium backup as suggested and my 4g indicator immediately turned off. Sweet! It seems that 'my account' is the culprit!
Edit: I really wish this topic wasn't merged...I think there were a couple 'wifi problem' threads talking about different issues. To clarify, my problem was that while on wifi my 4G indicator would sometimes turn on and consume more battery and (sometimes) force all data to use 4G instead of wifi. Really annoying!

WiFi issue

Quite often when I arrive home or to work where I have WiFi networks saved my phone will not connect automatically. When I go to the WiFi settings it says the connection is disabled, so I click on it and it asks me if I want connect, I click yes and it connects no problem.Anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?
Thanks.

I use WiFi suspension and when I wake up my m8 sometimes WiFi don't turn on.
It's say turn off and if I try to put on nothing happens.
Then I put in aero mode for one or more time, than WiFi turn on.
Not always, but sometimes happens.
I'm on viper 3.2.1

Have you tried to simply reboot the WiFi router? This clears up issues like this, a lot more than you would think.
Also, what band, model? Some simply don't play well with HTC devices.

Data doesn't turn off on Lollipop

I just updated my phone to 5.0.1 and now there the data won't turn off on WiFi. It still does turn off when toggled, but then MMS can't be received. How should I fix this?

It's always done that the 4g is still connected to do things like SMS.

but it shouldn't always be lit up like that. it should grey out after awhile.
Unfortunately you have to turn off mobile data. Just called Verizon about this.
It use to be greyed out, but now it's white as if it's on. Could be an oversight when they created the update. When I'm connected to wifi, it is rarely active.
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
I believe it stays active for the advanced calling option. Even if you don't enroll in the option it keeps the 4G active by default to "watch" for calls. Just a way for the vzw devs to be lazy by leaving it "active" all the time instead of being triggered by opting in to the advanced option

We provided some answers on what to turn off and what makes it show up. There may be no way to fully keep it off as I have concluded that it may or may not be the phones radio doing updates in intervals. I rarely see it pop up now after that discussion.

That does nothing. It is still going to come on randomly. If you have location on it will show up. I've also noticed it blinks on and off when using Hangouts to send a text. This is all happening with WiFi on.

Of course it blinks on and off because txts don't go through WiFi. Txts and calls and GPS information(I think) go through the provider network, which is why it shows up when you text/calls/gps. For the times it doesn't need the provider network, only WiFi icon will shop up.

Uh... I already know that but provide the info in case someone doesn't know that. There are people that assume everything goes through WiFi with 4G off. So by me saying that it blinks on and off is an indication to them that 4G is being used because it's a text.
We are basically providing info letting others know why 4G comes on if they have WiFi on already.
Like the OP stated in the post title, the 4g icon stays on, and not just comes off & on. In my case, it'll stay on for about 20+ minutes, and this is with the smart connect unchecked and while doing abosolutely nothing. No reading, no texting or email, GPS turned off.
Ive tried all the suggested answers, and the only solution that works for me is to turn off the network.

Correct. Mine has been for the last couple of hours doing nothing. Only thing that would fix it is a reboot.
