i havent found the file to odin back to stock, i rooted a while back and want to make sure i can un root for when the updates push through
please give me a link to the un-root odin tar or a thread for it. thanks
Go to this site, type in the model number of your device and then download. Upload into you device with Odin and you are back to stock. Then you can do your upgrade and go back to rooted.

Hi i currently have stock rom but have it rooted. Can someone provide me with a link to update my phone to the new update w/root or let me know what I need to do? Thanks!
Also I am not sure if I am running ext or rfs can some tell me how to figure that out?
A great place to start learning about modding the Epic are the QBKing77 videos on youtube. Just search for them or check out the links to his videos in most of the OPs in the development section. There are a ton of custom roms to play with right now, as well as the stock EI22 Gingerbread rom that came out OTA.
Thanks as I said though I am already rooted but unsure if its ext 4 or RFS I need help figuring that out and then I think I can just odin it from their.
I wish to stay on stock.
Might I suggest taking a look at the MostlyStockROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339579
You can even go to the "old links" and choose to download the deodexed only first release which is Stock + doedexed + root. Or choose one of the newer releases which has the fixes/features you want.
If you want EI22 Fully Stock then I believe you will need to unroot your existing install and install the OWA. I haven't seen a stock ODIN method but may have missed it.
I see. How do I unroot my phone?
odin back to stock ec05.
ok so then how do I root my phone after going back to stock updating then what?
Or couldn't I just do a factory reset then update?

Once you odin back to stock ec05, it'll do the OTA update onto ei22. That's how I did my phone. Warning, once you odin back, you'll lose all your app and data.
I'm not worried about that I have titanium back up pro. their has got to be a easier way to do this though. Before All I had to do was Odin to the next update and that was it (eco5) now I have to odin back to stock remove root then update and then reroot...... thats a lot of work.
Is their a way to do this without un-rooting my phone?
Also can someone shoot me a link to a tutorial on going back to stock?
Also once root is removed I take it I would have to re root it. (this is ridiculous un root, update, reroot)
So what DO i do to re-root it?

you can just download the file and install it using CWM but i'm 0 for 2 with this method.

Follow the video that babystewie posted. I've used it twice, both succeeding with no issues what so ever. It will allow you to update to GB with root, but will give you a stock version of GB. If you're interested in rooting GB as well, check the video description and there's some more videos.
There are a lot of mostly stock roms or even just a cwm flashable ei22 in the development section. You'll keep root and won't have to go through using odin so many times.
what do you mean a stock version of gingerbread? also I already have clockwork if that helps does it mean i have ti do anything different if i want to keep root?
There really is no completely stock Gingerbread ROMs because we don't have the tar file for the Odin flash. There are several ROMs in the Development thread (where the ROMs are) that are mostly stock. You can simply flash one of those, and if you want the EI22 modem, you can flash the EC05 to EI22 modem updater found in the stickies in development. I recommend you start here:

Hello,
I have Galaxy S3 running 4.1.1, i have perviously
rooted it. After that i done a Factory Rest to the Device,
then tried to UpDate it to the latest Version!
But it always tells me that this device is modified!
What i want is to Completely REMOVE the Root,
then UPDATE it to the latest version? Please HELP!

As long as you have a custom recovery (either CWM or TWRP), you will not be able to update. You could go back to 100% stock unrooted and then update, but this is not necessary and you'll be doing a lot more steps. More steps means more chances to mess something up.
Good news is that you can just install the stock Rom. Freeza always updates his thread with the most recent Stock Rooted Rom. A lot of times he comes out with it even before I get the OTA from Sprint. All you have to do is flash it in TWRP or CWM. In case you're not familiar with the procedure for doing this, please see this linked post.
Finally, OTAs are fairly common, so check out CNexus' thread on OTAs.

If you want to go back to stock completely, you will need to odin the tar file and the latest triangle away. This will set your binary and get you back to normal and then odin the stock tar. This will put you back to completely stock with a stick recovery. You should be able to update from there. There are several links to the info you need.

They don't necessarily have to use Odin and Triangle Away. Here is a thread for a recovery-flashable zip which will reset their counter and restore them back to unrooted stock.
That being said, if the only reason they want to go back to stock is to take the update, it's entirely unnecessary. Like I said before, the more steps they have to take, the more chances they have to mess something up (especially when it comes to Odin and Download mode, in my opinion). If they want to return to stock unrooted for another reason, the easiest way is to use the flashable zip.
Thanks alot for all of your help
Since I cant post in the developer area. How do I unroot my 217s and restore the stock recovery?

I forget where I found it, but I downloaded the stock firmware (massive 2 day google search) and flashed it with ODIN to put it back to stock. i think i'm going to leave it stock until I can get a root that doesn't have all the security pop ups every 45 seconds (I easily get annoyed with notifications and my OCD tells me to deal with them as soon as they come in, really angers my fiancé lol).
Kies didn't work since it was modified so I had to unzip the file and push it through with ODIN and a custom recovery, which flashed to stock through the firmware. The stock firmware is over a GB if I remember correctly so I can't send it via gmail if you want it. Sorry.
Edit: Make sure that when you go to push with ODIN, that you put the file in the Phone section and uncheck all the options on the left
Am trying to go back to stock with oding a clean install , went to sammobile but file won't download, can some one direct me to an odin back to stock
Maybe you should tell us what phone model you have? Anyway, here you can help yourself at this site:

Thanks all fix.
I rooted my n910p a while back with the emotion kernel and twrp. My phone has been messing up even before rooting which is why I rooted in the first place. All I need to know/want to do is unroot and go back to stock. I understand how to do it with odin but everytime I download the stock rom files I always get an error such as pit partition or something. I just want to unroot so that I can get another phone without them noticing its rooted. I know when you turn the phone on it says things in the top left like android is se enforcing. Is there a way to unroot to where they can't tell its been rooted?
P.S. I know I'm all over the place with this post ive been trying to unroot all day with no luck. Please help somebody!

Which tar file are you trying to Odin? From my understanding, you have to Odin the tar ROM that installed the last pit file. So you might have to download and try each individual one till it takes it. Are you on MM or LP?

makes sense, but what do you do when you have something like Noterized, like me, and in this case, my build is OB7, but my bootloader and baseband are OE1... I had the same odin error recently, and i am going to try to odin the full OB7 again, but if that does not work, there is no full OE1 rom, it was just a security update... and thanks much for your help, ianmb...
