A few weeks ago I started to have this problem; i'm ussually connected to the HDSPA network, but the phone turns data off all the time and the only way to get the signal back is rebooting (even turning on and off plane mode doesn't solve it). Calls work perfectly.
I'm on stock 4.0.4, no modified kernels or roms. My carrier is Simyo, Spain.

No, I'm from Spain, my carrier is called Simyo, but it uses the Orange network.

That´s not my problem; the phone functions work great all the time, but data connection goes off. It happened when I was on 4.0.2 and now on 4.0.4 the issue is still there.
I too am having this same issue with a GSM Galaxy Nexus on stock yakju 4.0.4, but I'm in Canada on the Bell network, and did change the radio to the one they install on their phones.
I've been having this same problem just in the last day or two, ever since I enabled NFC. 4.04, stock kernel, calls go through as normal but no network data. When I disable NFC, everything is back to normal. Anyone else notice conflict with NFC enabled?

I believe this is with the 4.0.4 IMM76D build, it's fixed on 4.0.4 IMM76I.
Again, what the OP has reported, and I am experiencing the same, is that network connectivity does not drop, rather that at least in some scenarios (as is my experience with NFC enabled) network data drops. Really curious if anyone else out there has seen the same on the most recent build and in particular if anyone else has seen a conflict with NFC enabled.
Try matching your radio interface layer with the radio version. This app will help

My baseband and RIL match. Now i'm using franco m4 but the problem persists.

RIL and baseband matching here too. Thx for suggestion though. Handy little app too.
Unrelated, perhaps.
Sorry, but this might not be related: I have an issue with the phone going into 2G when I'm at work -- 23rd floor office. I must manually change it to 2G/Edge every time. All the other folks around me seem to continue without issue and are able to make calls although their signal isn't too hot. GetRIL says baseband and RIL match. I'm using XXLA2 on AT&T in NYC.
Tried searching around for a solution, but I'm not finding anything.
I had the data drop issue as well, not sure if this is related, but around the same time I matched up my RIL, I also switched from francokernel to glados. I have been using glados 1.34 & have not had the issue since.

I've noticed that data connection seems to drop when I switch apps. Does this happen to anybody else? Whenever I switch from one app to another, say from Chrome to Twitter, data connection is lost and then reconnects in about 5 to 10 seconds. There's been occasions when I've lost network signal completely and the only fix, other than to reboot, seems to be to turn airplane mode on and to turn it off again.
I have a GSM Gnex. Is this a hardware problem or will it be fixed with 4.0.5?
My phone has been dropping signals lately, even in strong reception areas. I flash a different ROM, did FULL wipe and everything and still doing the something. Even flashed different radios and still doing the something, it wasn't happening before, and it just started out of no where anyone have any ideas about this?? Thanks!

Which market are you in? There's a chance that the tower was only on for testing and has since been turned off. There's also a chance that another tower closer to you is currently being upgraded, so the phone is trying to connect to that tower's LTE, getting rejected, and falling back to 3G. That's what's happening to me, and it's frustrating because I had a steady 4G signal for a week and a half, then one day, it refused to stay connected to 4G for longer than a minute. Now, I just have to wait for them to finish the new tower.
The reason could be just about anything depending on your market.
I am in the Atlanta market which has been officially announced. Friends that live nearby have not been having this problem on stock ux software. I was wondering if cm10 has a big or something?

Actually, it has a couple LTE bugs. CM10 doesn't currently handle 3G/4G handoffs properly, so that could be part of the issue, but it holds a 4G connection fine if the signal is strong enough, at least from my experience. Another bug is that it will just stop making connections, and you have to wipe data to fix it. Have you tried toggling airplane mode? If that doesn't work, make a nandroid and try a clean install of CM10. I had to do that recently because it completely stopped connecting to 4G and barely connected to 3G. As soon as I booted up, 4G was back (didn't last long, but I explained that in my other post). If wiping data doesn't work, flash to TW and see if the problem persists. If it still doesn't connect, then you may have a hardware issue, but I think that's unlikely since it was working for you before. You never know, though.
Keep in mind, even though Atlanta's been officially launched, it's only about one third complete, so lots of towers are still being upgraded. It's possible you're facing the second issue in my first post, like I am. If so, then just concentrate on how much better it'll be when the new tower is finished.

Happened to me several times. The best thing you can do is make a nandroid once you get your favorite AOSP rom set up to your liking, and restore to it once LTE stops working. I tried to get myself to go to TW but its just so slow
What is TW?

I have a similar issue. If i go into settings, about phone, and status I pick up LTE:13, but I get no connection or IP address so I have to change over to 3g. Is this a known issue, and if so is it being addressed? I am currently running nightly 10-14-2012 if it helps. Thanks
Edit: I've tried TW and it works just fine there. 14 down and 6 up.
Its likely to do with cm10. And the handoff issue like it was explained a few posts back. I love cm10 but data would work if u was lucky for 2 hours out of the whole day. So I'm on the leaked lih build. Just gotta wait patiently for the great devs to figure it out.

Never heard of that happening, either.
Can anyone help me with the RIL Stuff on the G Pro? I have service issues in a low service area but ONLY when using a NON AT&T Stock rom. When using CM 10.1 or the Telcel E980h my service sucks! From around -90 to -100 on stock to -100 to mostly -105 to -111 and its terrible! but When on Stock the network is flawless. Yes Ive tried flashing the Baseband still same problems.
So now the next thing to try is the RIL stuff which I DONT have exspeicance with. How do I get to the RIL files to copy them so I can put them on something else?
The ONLY RIL file I found on stock is under /system/lib/libril.so or something like that but that did nothing.
If its the RIL causing problems how can I fix it?
If its not the RIL that would cause that what else do I look into??
I also wanted to add at this location the phone NEVER looses service completely! But when using something other than the Stock AT&T E980 Rom It keeps going to emgency Calls only a lot as well!
Okay so now that I see when you're on CM10.1 its the same low service. Its not the RIL files. Its actually AT&T lying to you. I know this because whenever I go to Rangely Co, I have crappy service on cm10.1. When on stock ROM I see all bars and 4G, yet speeds are almost nonexistent and I can hardly ever get a phone call out

Its NOT AT&T Lying to me. The Data and Phone calls work fine and service stays intact! I`m NOT talking about Signal Bars here I`m talking about the actual signal strength, and the acutal Service. While on the AT&T rom I can move my phone around at the location and will it will occanalny qurik and stop working but still never go out of service (Still on AT&T network) On any other rom I dont even have touch the phone and just switch to Emergency Calls only, I know how AT&T fakes the signal bars on there phones software but this is not the case the service itself simply does NOT suck as bad as it does when NOT running AT&T`s stock firmware.
So Im not really sure whats going on.
The ONE thing about CM 10.1 though the Service NEVER went out and was a good bit more reliable than the international stock roms it is atleast usable! But I never care for CM.
I had the same issue when I had my s3 when I was on cm my signal sucked but when I was on a touch wiz Rom it was fine could never figure it out tried flash in different modems that did not work either
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
The ROMs interpret signal strength differently. That's why I said before at&t stock ROM is lying to you. It happens to me all the time. When I'm in Rangely on the stock ROM it'll show that my signal strength is strong but it actually isn't because there isn't a tower for them there yet it shows I'm connected to them. However on any other ROM it shows I'm roaming.
Its because the ROMs are designed to read differently. That's why I say at&t ROM is lying.

I understand what your are saying, But its its NOT that causing my issue, as when on AT&T Stock Rom, Calls GO THROUGH Data Works almost with an issue! (not looking at the signal bar and such) On the Telcel rom or anything else, Calls Fail, Calls get Dropped, Data just sits there, Phone looses complete service and says Emergency Calls only!
Have you tried turning on data roaming?

Yea, But that shouldnt do anything as There is NOTHING to roam on here, The closest Place that I have even roamed before and even by Coverage Maps is about 5 hours away Near Nashville, TN but thats the ONLY time I have ever roamed. Sadly even though T-Mobile is here it wont roam no phone has its always emericancy calls only.

So what exact files Should I pull from the AT&T stock rom and put over on the other? whiles the files and folders I should move? Thanks.
My wife has this phone and I have the s3. After doin TT the update to 4.3, we both have experienced the same issue. When I am on 4g and she is on LTE, we cannot make calls to someone on WiFi calling. We can receive them just not make them. All other calls work. When on 2g or edge it works. I finally found a fix for mine, since my s3is rooted, I reflashed the modem only and mine is fixed. My wife won't let me root hers, the note 2. With that being said, what are my options, because I think that would work for hers, but she won't let me root.

Make sure in wifi calling settings you have calls over wifi preferred is checked
Also do a factory reset.
That's all that comes to mind right now.

I have the same issue with my stock 4.3 Note 2... not sure what happen during the OTA but im led to assume that with all the newer LTE phones, note 2 users arent the only phones accessing those bands, and something was shifted that creates more instability with wifi calling. I say more instability, as even when I was on 4.1.1/4.1.2 there would be times when friends/family would call/message me when I was connected to certain wifi's (at my girlfriends/etc) and the call would never come through, the messages would receive until I disconneced from the wifi. Even when leaving a voicemail, it was hit or miss for me to get those until I disconnected from wifi.
Not sure if it is a compatibility issue from being connected to edge vs lte vs etc (like you have narrowed down) as it may be a wifi router issue, or just initial bugs with wifi calling in general, considering wifi calling is still (in my mind) in its infancy stage

I wouldn't necessarily say WiFi calling is in its infancy. I've been with T-Mobile since before the first android. We had Wi-Fi calling with the 2nd android phone T-Mobile had, the cliq 1. Every phone we have had has had Wi-Fi calling since. The first hiccup we ever had was with the HTC one s. With the note 2 we haven't had a problem until the update. Being an IT tech, I couldn't help but do my own ts, since it was happening to my s3 as well. What we found was it only happens if she makes a call on 4g or LTE going to a phone that has Wi-Fi calling turned on. If that person turns it off and goes to where they actually has signal, the call goes thru fine. My s3 was doing the same, but it is rooted.
We have put several calls into T-Mobile IT dept. That has stumped them badly. They have no idea why this is happening.
On my phone, I finally had the bright idea to reflash just the modem. It worked. No more issues on mine.
I can't root hers(she won't let me), and I know that will fix it by flashing the modem only.
So, sorry for long post, but that is where I'm at. I'm stumped, unless maybe just using Odin to flash the update all over again (like that will happen, she don't like it when I play with her phone).
